Frostdeer / Bullheart Feathertalon
The white queen's not so vigilant watch for Bullheart or Sunhawk had trailed into a dazed daydream, her forest green gaze lazing into the distance. The familiar tone of her mate startled her and she chirped in surprise. Her soft white fur mingled with his ginger coat as she leaned into his nuzzle. The innocent she-cat's face clouded ever so slightly at his tease. "I hope you're not cross with me," she replied sensitively. "I just don't know what to do with no kits to follow and no way to leave camp." Leaving camp...it came to her mind that she had heard of Grizzlystar sending out patrols, who were doubtless long departed by now. Only then did she connect her thoughts and worry crept into her voice. "Sunhawk, where is he?" Even Frostdeer, who was usually detached from any drama of the clan, knew how horridly dangerous it would be for her son to have gone into the territory.
As she questioned Bullheart, she looked upon him for the first time since he appeared beside her. "You're thinking about something," she perceived. Many times, Frostdeer's only concerns came from supporting those of her mate. The queen was particularly adept at spotting his agitation, in his body, his fur, or even just through his eyes. She settled herself before him, gazing at the tom with an endlessly compassionate expression. "Speak to me," she requested with care, "You know I never judge you. You always seem to be right," she purred with love toward him, a sentiment she truly felt. "No matter how small, it's far better you voice it than hold it in."

Applepaw
Even for Applepaw, who could normally bundle up under her own fur, this cycle’s cold was a little much. She rolled out of her nest, the moss clinging to her pelt, and stared out into the camp with a sigh. She could tell Bravepaw and Mossypaw were already up, but at least there wasn’t a good chance they had left without her. Most everyone was being kept in camp, especially the apprentices, because of the storms. After a few more pensive moments, Applepaw stood up and padded outside; she immediately fluffed up her pelt in the biting cold and let out a shudder. However, her expression brightened a little when she saw Bravepaw and Mossypaw talking near the (diminishing) fresh-kill pile. She quickened her pace and came up behind them. “Good morning!” she mewed. “What are you guys talking about?” The thought didn’t even pass her mind that it wasn’t her business, but did it ever?

Bullheart
Of course, it didn't take long for the conversation to steer right toward the one thing on every cats' mind right now. The weather and then the patrols that had been sent out. While Bullheart would have loved nothing more than to ease his worries away by having a light conversation with Frostdeer, he knew that, deep down, she was right. Not voicing his thoughts would only lead to even more agitation, and he wasn't sure he was quite ready to completely snap; if he could help it he wouldn't snap at all, but with the way things were going Grizzlystar was on thin ice with him, and it was only a matter of time before the ginger tomcat said or did something he might later regret. If he could even regret doing anything like this - he could possibly save the Clan from an untimely end. He, unlike a certain cat, actually cared about his Clanmates.
Unable to keep what was on his mind away from Frostdeer, he settled into a comfortable sitting position beside her, ginger fur pressing against her mostly white fur. He hoped this would also ease he own worries as she asked about their son. "He's in camp. The cats on the first patrol are Moosepelt, Fawnspirit, and Hawkswoop. The second has Dimheart, Nightsky, and Spottedfire." They were all fine warriors, cats that even Bullheart could respect, but that only made him angrier at Grizzlystar for putting such valuable warriors - some of those warriors his own kits - in danger.
Already he could feel his frustrations bubbling back up. His claws barely unsheathed as he kneaded the ground in an attempt to fizzle out some of the emotions swirling through him like the snowstorm outside. "I'm well aware we need prey, but Grizzlystar sending out cats in this weather... I don't think it's the right decision," he admitted. Frostdeer would be the first to hear of Bullheart's thoughts against the leader, but deep down he was sure she wouldn't be the last.

Frostdeer / Bullheart Feathertalon
With Bullheart pressed beside her, the white she-cat relaxed as the relief of his answer washed over her. The names of the other warriors barely registered with her. It took very little for her to worry about Bullheart and Sunhawk, but it took quite a lot for her to worry about any other cats. Frostdeer felt sadness if anything bad were to happen to the patrols, but as far as she was concerned they would be fine, she was sure. Anything beyond the confines of the camp was a strange wilderness to her. Ever since she had Sunhawk all those moons ago, she had never felt the urge to stretch her paws in the wilds of their territory too regularly. She was a contented she-cat, comfortable within the world she had.
Frostdeer listened carefully to her mate confiding in her. This was deeply important to him, she felt his muscles tense as he pawed the ground. Her immediate response was to begin passing a tongue over his shoulder calmly, in an effort to suppress the tense energy he fought. She always waited until he had finished his thought completely. "Yes..." she commented slowly, thinking of the stale fresh-kill pile and her rumbling stomach. "But you're right to question his decision. We're not starved yet, but we will be if we lose warriors to an impossible attempt at prey in this storm." She processed his opinion, reasoning it over in her own mind as well before even further supporting it. "Besides. If it's so dangerous for a patrol to leave, what's the likelihood of prey leaving their hiding holes either?"

Bullheart
Every so often Bullheart had to stop and wonder if Frostdeer only echoed his sentiments to please him, to stop any annoyances to rise between them. He wondered if, deep down, she had thoughts and opinions of her own that differed from his. If she did, he wanted them to be heard as well. He didn’t want his mate to feel like she had to follow in his pawsteps every step of the way. She was an individual too, with her own individual needs and thoughts. But at the same time her reassurance and agreement calmed him. Perhaps he was a fool to worry about Frostdeer only agreeing with him for the sake of peace between them. If she ever did have differing opinions on anything Bullheart would love to hear her out, but with a topic like this, well, he supposed he would much rather Frostdeer on his side than not. After all, the fate of some of their very own Clanmates hung in the balance here and surely more than just himself realized Grizzlystar was wrong. Lost in thought, it wasn’t until a particularly strong gust of wind entered camp and ruffled his finger fur rather roughly. He shook his head, thanking the wind for snapping him back to reality all the while cursing it for being cold enough to pierce even his thick coat. ”I doubt anything would be harebrained enough to step out into this. The most they’d find would be prey that froze to death out there.” And their Clanmates very well could meet that same fate thanks to Grizzlystar.
Bullheart’s tail gave an irritable twitch at the thought of the leader. At one time Bullheart had respected the brown tabby. He looked up to him and believed him to be the perfect cat to lead a Clan, but now those opinions were changing. Grizzlystar was getting old. His decision making was growing weak. For StarClan’s sake, they didn’t even have a deputy thanks to this forsaken weather and Grizzlystar still had yet to name a new one. If ever the Clan needed a deputy, a strong authority figure that actually knew what he or she was doing, it was now.
His eyes narrowed as a thought danced into his mind. Bullheart had never been one to ask for more than he was worth. The ambition to one day be deputy, and then perhaps even leader, had spurred many of his choices before, but back then he had wanted the position through the goodwill of Grizzlystar. Now...now Bullheart was starting to see things a little differently. Perhaps Grizzlystar sending those patrols out to their dooms would be the last decision as leader he would ever make. Bullheart didn’t want to see the tomcat dead, but he was starting to realize he wanted to see the tom step down and hand power over to a cat who could pull the Clan through this leadbare without any more casualties. Maybe it was time for Bullheart to step forward and show MountainClan what a true leader could do.

Grizzlystar ⇻ mentions; Silverbirch [ Blaze ♡ ]
The leader made a face at the medicine cat's reminiscing, a soft snort leaving his muzzle, a mixture of disgust and faint amusement. It admittedly made the leader a bit uncomfortable that Silverbirch had witnessed his birth--Grizzlystar was long past his time as a helpless kit wriggling blindly in the nursery. The fact that Silverbirch had that image of him still in his head bothered him and his frozen whiskers twitched in mild annoyance. However, he brushed off these feelings with a shrug of his shoulders, rolling them backwards in a stretch and getting to his feet to allow some warmth to spread into his haunches.
"I'm surprised your memory is still that capable," He teased, hoping for the subject to pass. Silverbirch's words had reminded him of his father, Yellowmoon, in the Elder's den and wondered if he should go check in on the tom before he headed out. The medicine cat's tone and soft growl brought his attention back to the conversation. If Grizzlystar wasn't so stoic, he may have rolled his eyes. The leader knew it wasn't the wisest decision, however he wasn't fond of having cats concerned over him. He could take care of himself out there, Silverbirch knew that by know. "I want to see just how bad the snow if building up and where. I'd like to know better where I should be directing patrols." Is all he replied, not acknowledging Silverbirch's disapproval, but letting out an amused huff at the medicine cat's critical comment of his apprentice. Grizzlystar wasn't the fondest of apprentice's himself--Starclan knew he could hardly stand his own kits when they were apprentices, and Blackpaw was a bit... much. The leader had to admit that he did feel a bit bad for the little black she-cat at times. "Why do I have a hard time believing that?" He asked in a false questioning tone, shaking his shaggy head. "You should be kinder to your apprentice."

Mossypaw rolled his eyes at his brother's mild scolding, not one to take advice of any kind seriously. He stayed silent for a while, which was rare for the tom, and busied himself in grooming his paws, mostly to try to get the taste of blood out of his mouth. The grey apprentice didn't truthfully think that consequences applied to him the same way as they did to others, but that was far from the truth. "If you say so, Bravepaw." He finally replied, tone dismissive, sounding like it was meant to be more of an insult that him ceding to his brother's point.
The tom's attention was pulled over his shoulder to catch sight of Applepaw approaching behind the pair of toms, ginger fur fluffed up against the cold. A lazy smirk crawled it's way onto Mossypaw's face as the she-cat approached and he re-positioned himself next to his brother as to get a better look at her. "Well, good morning indeed." He replied, the hint of a purr in his voice, although it was undetectable whether it was genuine. "My dear brother and I here have been discussing the devastating conditions this weather has been causing for poor Mountainclan. It's a travesty, don't you agree Applepaw?" The tom mused dramatically, peppering his speech with a deep, long-drawn sigh and shaking his head in feigned sadness.

As the patrol moved downward into the territory, Spottedfire grew increasingly grateful for the cover the trees in the lower parts of the territory provided. The biting chill of the wind was not only seeping past her thick pelt, but she was growing sick of the wind pulling at the tangles in her fur, almost like it was toying with her. She looked up to observe the tree tops and branches, the pines thick with their frilly green tendrils while others stood bare and dead-looking, swaying in time with the howl of the wind.
Spottedfire had never been a patient cat--this was well known. So when her attention was brought back to the patrol by the flick of Dimheart's tail her heart began to pound harder. She parted her own jaws to invite in the scent and, sure enough, the faintest hint of chipmunk could be detected. If the silver tabby hadn't pointed it out, Spottedfire doubted she would have noticed it. Hunting had never been her greatest talent but that never stopped her from trying. Her amber gaze drifted slowly around the spot where the patrol had caught the scent, eyes narrow in the brightness of the snow and jaws still apart to track the scent of prey. "I can't tell what way it went..." She growled softly, more to herself than the patrol, and swatted at the snow, disgruntled.

After more moments than it probably should have taken, she twitched her whiskers in laughter. "Oh yes, such a... travesty," she mewed, wrapping her tail around her paws. "Maybe we'll die of boredom before we die of hunger." It was supposed to be a joke, but after saying it out loud it wasn't a good one. Noticing a distinct lack of cats that were there earlier that morning, she tilted her head at the two toms. "Where did all the warriors go?" ((applepaw at all moments of the day:

Bravepaw With Mossypaw and Applepaw [ 𝑓𝑜𝑥 & ✨ nissabug ✨ ] Within camp - - - - - Watching the patrols with a pensive gleam in his eyes, Bravepaw kept his gaze locked on the camp exit. His gaze was a little unfocused, the young tom was drifting in deep thought. The probability of the patrol's success was low. The silver tabby couldn't help the pit that seemed to sink in his stomach as he thought about the warriors who had disappeared out of sight. He hoped something was walking besides them and giving the patrol strength. Bravepaw glanced back towards his brother. His whiskers twitching in faint amusement, he didn't catch his brother's words but the tone was all too recognizable. Most likely, Mossypaw was under the usual assumption that whatever he uttered was correct.
His amber eyes flickered up to meet Applepaw's green ones and he greeted his fellow apprentice with a friendly purr, "Morning." He beckoned for Apple to lie down with them. His amber eyes were soft and filled with warmth, he always did enjoy Applepaw's company even before they became apprentices, she was fun and sweet. Bravepaw couldn't help but the soft snicker that escaped from him at Mossypaw's dramatic antics. "All we can hope is this storm ends soon," he added before smirking at his brother with a playful gleam lighting up his eyes, "I know Mossypaw is dying for another rematch." Their last mutual battle training had ended with Bravepaw being the victor.

Frostdeer / Bullheart Feathertalon
The small she-cat waited quietly after she had spoken for Bullheart to respond, as he seemed to be deep in thought, silent beside her. Perhaps he would not respond. After all, she had merely seconded what he had already made clear. She turned her kind gaze on him, watching him ponder. So many thoughts went through the ginger tom's head, she was amazed how much energy he had for his mind to run. She loved him because he had what she never seemed to grasp, total conviction and passion in his beliefs. The easygoing queen's temperament was as soft as clouds wisping away in the wind. Frostdeer's heart was so gentle and open, that she thought it might shatter if she ever grew to be as passionate as Bullheart. She did find a unifying solace in the comfort it gave him when she supported him, and that was more than enough to sustain her romantic soul.
As the cold wind buffeted them, she broke her gaze and huddled once again beside him, shamelessly using the larger tom to shield her own pelt from the gale. As she had supposed, Bullheart was simply pondering, and not disregarding, her comments. Naturally, it took a physical reminder from the chill gust to bring him back to her. "Exactly," she replied simply. Feeling her mate was far from calmed still, his listless agitation prickling her fur, Frostdeer tried to put herself in his place, to think like Bullheart. This was about much more than just some icy mice. The way Bullheart spoke, he inspired her with such confidence in his ability to know what was best for them all: For Sunhawk, for her grandkit Applepaw, for herself.
Frostdeer pushed herself further. He was the cat she knew best, she was determined to see the greater meaning behind his so troubled state. Slowly the she-cat began to gage his trail of discontent through her chatter, "If you don't think it was the right decision..." She was about to question why he hadn't said so to their leader, but stopped herself, sensing his reaction already. "Bullheart, the clan isn't whole right now. We need a deputy, that will help balance the decisions. You've always worked so hard, surely you believe yourself to be of the best candidates for the role?" But something in her felt incorrect as she spoke. She could not remember Bullheart dreaming to her about deputyship anytime in her recent recollection. She hoped he would become deputy, and Grizzlystar would listen to his sound advice, and the clan would be at peace. She waited perceptively on his reaction, desperate to understand his dreams now.

One of Mossypaw's eyebrows inched up as he watched Applepaw's blank stare as she thought, his eyes flicking from the ginger apprentice, to his brother, and then back again. Her belated laughter made him laugh out loud and he dabbed a grey paw at his eyes as if wiping away imaginary tears. Like his brother, Mossypaw enjoyed Applepaw, but that was more because he thought that she was fun to make fun of rather than that he genuinely enjoyed her company.
"If boredom is how I go, then I pray it takes me quickly." He groaned, rolling his eyes a bit at the she-cat's joke. At her next question, Mossypaw titled his head to the side like she had, mimicking her actions in a mocking way. "Oh, you didn't hear? Terrible, terrible news... oh, all those poor cats. Taken from us way to soon, I say..." He murmured ominously, shaking his head as he did so with a grim look on his face, shooting a sideways glance at Bravepaw with a spark in his green eyes.
When he locked eyes with his brother and saw the smirk plastered to his face, Mossypaw's whiskers twitched, intrigued by the look on Bravepaw's face. However at the sound of his brother's words, however, Mossypaw's face screwed up into a grimace. "You know I should have won that fight!" The tom huffed, his coat puffing up in offense. He swiped a fluffy paw at his brother, keen on swatting the tabby over the head.

Nightsky With Spottedfire and Dimheart [ 𝑓𝑜𝑥 & feathertalon ] Within camp - - - - - Opening his maw and sucking in the air steadily, Nightsky was able to identity the scent that Dimheart had pointed out. His green eyes held a hint of doubt because the scent was stale. "Stale scents are always hard to track," he muttered quietly to Spottedfire as he could see the feline was feeling aggravated. Hunting in the snow was not an easy task. It required concentration and determination.
The smokey tom knew that he potentially would stand out against the white out of the snow but thankfully, the winter had picked up particles of snow and dusted his pelt with it. If anything, Nightsky looked like he was a moving rock. Trudging through the thickening snow, Nightsky sniffed gently along the untouched surfaces and bushes.
[ are the coyotes out and about now? or should we wait until after the snow storm to start recognizing signs of them? ]

Silverbirch Camp - - - - - Silverbirch's gaze flickered around camp idly before his eyes darted back to Grizzlystar with a sharp glint in his eyes. The silver tom was prideful type much like his companion. He worked hard to rise above the general stereotypes of medicine cats. "I am sharp as a thorn," he meowed in a dismissive tone. He remembered everything. As medicine cat... it was his duty to know about the clan and sometimes he learned things he didn't want to know.
"If you must," Silverbirch drawled out with a slight snort, "Just don't get sick and give me more jobs to handle." He had enough to do ensuring that camp didn't explode in chaos. He often did detest injuries and sicknesses that were completely avoidable. If Grizzlystar got a sick and lost a life for being an imbecile, Silverbirch would take another one for good measure. Thinking about the patrols, he hoped they would return after this long day and not run the risk of developing sickness; however, Silverbirch was realistic. It was highly probable that the patrols would get some sort of respiratory problem. Cold air never did any cats favors.
He shrugged his shoulders and looked away from Grizzlystar as his sharp blue gaze trickled around the camp. It was likely that his apprentice was in medicine cat... probably destroying his herb stores. If the territory was a tab bit safer, he would be pushing her out on a patrol. She would need to learn to look for herbs in unwanted weather. "I feed her and made sure she hasn't died yet... I am doing a fantastic job, for not being her father," Silverbirch retorted with a twitch of his tail.

Applepaw
Applepaw blinked at him. “What?” he said, eyes wide until she noticed his look over at Bravepaw. Then she huffed and flicked the tip of her tail. “So rude,” she said, though there wasn’t hate in her tone. She watched the brothers start to bicker again, and in that moment was glad she didn’t have any siblings. At the mention of another match she purred. It was fun to watch them duel it out, and also good battle training at the same time. “I dunno, Bravepaw, it would have to be more of a fair fight this time,” she said with a laugh.
