Juniperpaw stepped away from the water but continued to stare down into the froth. He glanced at his paws, then wondered if his paws were even long enough to dive into the water. You've done this before, mouse-brain... he thought with a frown. The little tom crouched down beside the water, keeping his eyes open for a flash of silver in the sunlight. Forest hunting depended on all your senses, like listening and scenting, but unfortunately, fishing relied almost entirely on sight. Juniperpaw's ears pricked in attention as a shadow approached the bank, and he quickly dipped his paw in and out with unsheathed claws. However, he came back with nothing; his tail lashed.
Lionleap turned around to face Swiftstrike and nodded. If one of them slipped there was a cat on either side to help them. She couldn't help but notice how snippy the tom was getting, and she wasn't sure why. Had she forced him to come when he didn't want to? Was he upset they weren't hunting first? The warrior twitched her whiskers; she was just overthinking it. She caught eyes with her apprentice, seeing if she'd cross the river first.

{ sorry for the slow posting, I have four nights in a row not finishing work till gone midnight, so i'm finding it hard to get time to post } Swiftstrike
Forest around HollowClan Camp with Lionleap, Batpaw, Sharppaw Around Dawn
Curiously, the tom took a couple of soft pads towards the edge of the water, eyes watching the ripples almost unblinking for a moment. It was hard to believe that only a couple of days ago patches had been completely frozen over. But not anymore, a sudden burst of warm weather had melted whatever ice there might have been left after the cold of lead bare. But he was quick to turn his head away again, instead turning his eyes on the two apprentices, almost tempted to get them moving with his muzzle. But he refrained from doing do, padding closer to the rocks himself, "I'll be here to catch you if you fall. So don't worry and just go. Though only one at a time. But we can't stand around here all day, we have hunting to be doing." His words weren't meant to be pushy, he was only trying to be encouraging.
HollowClan Camp with Brightblaze Around Dawn
"Lies," the tom spat back, fur bristling with anger as he turned his amber eyes on the warrior sat next to him, tail lashing in anger "You lie like the rest of them. You're no different." He refused to believe their words, though the anger was gone in almost a moment as though he had forgotten all about it. His fur calmed again, eyes instead turned towards the distance. It was like he wasn't even aware that there was any other cat around or that he had just been eating. "It looks like it might rain today," was all he noted in a soft meow, blinking as he looked up towards the clouds overhead, "It hasn't rained for awhile."
Mallownose
HollowClan camp with Juniperpaw Around Dawn
Mallownose sat a little distance off so not to disturb any of the fish, neatly curling her tail around her paws as she continued to watch her apprentice. She wanted to see how he would do without any other help. His form didn't seem to have any problems, he was making sure to keep still and there was no reflection on the surface of the water which might keep any fish away. Mallownose even saw one approaching, and so did Juniperpaw, but unfortunately for him, the fish managed to get away from his paw. "It's alright," the pale she-cat meowed in encouragement, "That was good form, you just need to be faster. Fish can be quite fast in the water and it is tricky to catch them and hook them onto the bank. But you are doing well."

Reassured by Reedwhisker's confirmation, Twigpaw turned to Drizzlepaw and silently motioned for the other apprentice to follow him as he left the den. "I think we should look for marigold first, it'll be the easiest to find," he mewed, partially to himself. He wasn't keen on the idea of getting his ears taken off by Reedwhisker if they came back empty-pawed, so perhaps securing a decent bundle of marigold at the very least might keep his mentor from barking him up a tree.
Batpaw peered hesitantly down at the water and gulped. Swiftstrike's words didn't help her nerves much either, as the tom sounded heavily exasperated already. She glanced at Sharppaw, but quickly figured that the other apprentice wasn't about to make a move just yet, so she may as well get it over with. She gingerly reached out a paw and pressed her pad against the smooth surface of the first rock, shifting her weight on it to test it. It didn't take her long to make it across in reality, but it felt like the longest few seconds of her life; when she reached the other bank she released a heavy breath that she hadn't realised she'd been holding.
"Perhaps that would be a good idea, I doubt the apprentices are very pleased," Ryeheart hummed in agreement, his eyes twinkling with mirth. Batpaw likely would've been the same if she hadn't woken up in time to catch Lionleap before her mentor left, so he could hardly blame the others if they were disappointed. "I don't think anybody's been fishing for a couple of days, so that might be best," he mused. He wasn't the best fisher by far - he was rather far from mediocre, if he was being honest, and would probably easily be outdone by any other member of the Clan - but he enjoyed it and found that it almost always yielded better results than hunting forest prey, if you searched the right stretches of water.

Jaywing
Forest around Camp with Foxfang, Rainsong Around Dawn
It was nice to know that he still had some good ideas, dipping his head as Rainsong agreed with his plan. He didn't think that there would be any trouble along their borders, it was rare that they saw a non Clan cat or a twoleg which meant them harm. Though the twolegs were bothersome always wandering through their territory with their loud dogs, they were usually gone again after awhile. "I think the river has dethawed now," he responded quickly, glancing over at the longer hair she-cat for a moment, "The weather has been warm recently and the ice was not that thick. Swiftstrike almost fell in once when he decided to just run across it," like the stupid mousebrain he was sometimes. But, thankfully, the tom had managed to save himself from the freezing water and had been swiftly taken back to camp to warm up before he got sick. Thank StarClan for medicine cats.

>> hello all! I've just thrown Silverflight into the patrol with Jaywing and the gang, hope that's alright? Otherwise all my other's are open. Here's some starters <<
Silverflight was not all too thrilled about having to be on a patrol. Sure, she knew it was important to keep predators and intruders off their territory, but it was usually so quiet around their borders than nothing interesting ever happened. The she-cat had spent most of the current trip just staring at the ground in front of her paws, unsheathing and sheathing her claws again in boredom. So far, nothing had taken her interest enough to say anything, though the story about Swiftstrike almost drowning made her snort of noise of amusement as she padded after the others. "He's just a mousebrained fool," she meowed with a flick of her tail, "out of those who would drown, I would expect it to be him." He was far more likely to do something stupid than her more level headed sister.
Willowpool slipped back into camp with a jaw full of herbs. She had awoken thanks to the ache from her leg early that morning and after eating something for the pain had decided that the stocks needed a little bit of replenishing. Though she hadn't gathered much, with only one mouth she couldn't carry that much back with her. But now the cold weather was over, she hoped that would mean less cats getting sick. Padding into the Medicine Cat's den, the silver tabby she-cat set down her herbs, wiping her tongue around her muzzle to try and rid herself the taste. Then she turned to Reedwhisker, a pleasant smile on her face, "Good morning," she greeted with a polite meow, "I hope you have not offended someone already this morning while I have not been here to stop you."
Russetkit was bored. He was super super bored. It was no fun being stuck in the nursery. He wanted to get out and explore, he wanted to learn how to hunt and battle like he had seen the warriors do countless times. The young kit was already fidgeting for adventure that morning, and Snowstep could sense it. "Come here, Russetkit," she meowed in a kind tone, using her tail to try and guide her kit towards her. Almost reluctantly, Russetkit complied with the request and bound over towards his mother, though almost regretted it instantly as Snowstep started to try and groom him.
"Stop it!" The young kit whined, instantly trying to wriggle away from his mother's tongue, "I don't need grooming."

Swiftstrike
River with Lionleap, Batpaw, Sharppaw Around Dawn
Swiftstrike watched carefully as Batpaw decided to be the first to cross. It was always tense when an apprentice crossed the river, anything could happen. The rock could be slippery and they could lose their balance, a sudden surge of the river could wipe them off their paws. Or, the better option was that they would cross without issue. Though the tom knew Batpaw was more than capable, he was ready to jump in to save the day - just in case. But when the tom landed safely on the other side, Swiftstrike allowed the fur on his back to relax just a little. "Good job," he meowed with a small twitch of his tail before his gaze found Sharppaw, "Alright, you go next. And remember to be careful, we don't want anyone falling in."
HollowClan Camp with Snowstep, Russetkit Around Dawn
Featherkit had been rather peaceful as she slept against her mother's side, comforted by the rise and fall of her flanks and the warmth which came from her fur. Though the peace didn't last for long, green eyes blinking open at the movement from her mother, the annoyed sounds coming from her brother. Small mouth opening into a yawn, Featherkit looked around the nursery before getting to her paws, instantly purring with amusement as she saw her mother trying to give Russetkit an unwanted bath. "You do need it, you smell like you've been rolling around in the dirt," she meowed, amusement at her brother's distress dancing in her eyes.

Russetkit scowled at Featherkit as he managed to wriggle himself away from his mother's tongue, fluffing out his pelt and shaking his head. "I do not!" He whined, trying to bat at her sister with a sloppy paw, "You smell like... like dead crow." It was a weak insult, and it wasn't very true in the slightest, but it was the best he could come up with at the moment. He would not stand for his sister saying that he stank when he did not. Sure, he might like rolling around and getting dirty, but he didn't smell.
Snowstep eventually conceded, letting her kit get away from her. There was a purr of amusement rumbling in her throat as she watched her two kits, shifting so she could wrap her tail over her paws. "Be nice to each other," she did scold in a slightly harder tone, green eyes steady as she looked between the two kits, "Neither of you smell like anything. And Russetkit," she added, turning her gaze completely to her son, "Don't hit your sister."
