(Foxfang, halfway through patrol - oh crap, I have an apprentice.)
Reedwhisker dipped her head, her brain whirling to find the right words to persuade Nightstar to take the herbs. She pushed the herbs back in front of him. "There may be nothing wrong with you," she meowed, "but you're our leader and you're on your last life. Mistyfoot will be a fine successor - " Or would be, if she were still alive " - but there's no replacing a cat like you." Her whiskers twitched. "And I'd rather keep you around as long as possible. That's what the herbs are for."
There would be no forcing Nightstar to take herbs if he insisted against it - Reedwhisker wasn't going to stop trying, but it was very hit-or-miss.

(lavenderpaw is gonna do the mature thing and give him the silent treatment when they return)
Drizzlepaw hopped to the Medicine Cat Den. Twitching his whiskers, he poked his head inside to say hello. "Twigpaw? Breezepaw? Are either of you free?" He mewed. He loved the scent of the medicine cat den, and felt a pang of sorrow that he couldn't stay there. He brushed off his thoughts, though, figuring StarClan would work everything out for him eventually.

Juniperpaw bounded toward the camp entrance, tail streaming behind him. At least the river was close to the ruins, so it wasn't a ways away. He slowed down to a walk once they left the camp, taking in all the sights and sounds of the territory around him. He loved seeing all the trees and hearing the birdsong, especially in the morning. He looked behind him at Mallownose while they walked. "What did you go do earlier this morning?"
Lionleap only flicked her ear in response to Swiftstrike. She wasn't sure what he said to Sharppaw, but it wasn't her business either. She turned and lead the group of cats out of the camp and into the forest, headed toward the farm. She knew if you could swim well enough you could do that to cross the river, but Lionleap didn't want to risk getting swept by the current, with all the ice from leaf-bare melting away. The golden she-cat looked over to Batpaw as they walked. "Did you sleep well last night?" she asked, although it was a rather mundane question.
Poppyface purred at Whitestreak's response. That was the warrior's den, alright. The elder moved to bite her prey when she noticed an apprentice approach them. "Good morning, Lavenderpaw," she mewed. She glanced over at Whitestreak. "Hm, I can't think of anything much right now," she said, then added with a laugh, "Unless you're just raring to clean out the moss in my den."

Mallownose
HollowClan camp with Juniperpaw Around Dawn
Juniperpaw being rather small in stature did rather mean that he couldn't take such long leaps, meaning that it wasn't that difficult for Mallownose to catch up to her eager apprentice as she padded after him from camp. She kept her pawsteps light against the ground, just in case they were to come across some prey on the way there. While fishing was the main goal of that morning, she wouldn't turn down getting in some regular hunting as well. "I went fishing myself," the she-cat responded in a simple meow as she followed slightly behind the darker furred tom, "Managed to bring back a couple of fish for the pile. But who is to say we will have the same success as I had this morning."
HollowClan Camp with Reedwhisker Around Dawn
At the grouchy medicine cat's words, Nightstar felt his fur bristle slightly, "I am not that old." He refused to ever believe that he was struggling with his age. While he might have lived a long life and was well aware he was on his last life, he didn't think he was in any danger. "You can stop your worrying, I am in perfect health and I am not going anywhere anytime soon. StarClan can try and take me all they want, I'm not going." he he was not as old and as feeble as some seemed to think he was."You are starting to sound like my blasted kit," he added with an equally annoyed lash of his tail. Jaywing wouldn't stop worrying about him, coming to check on him all the time and, honestly Nightstar was getting tired of it all. While the old tom knew his son only had his best intentions at heart, the constant worrying wasn't helping him get any younger.

Reedwhisker sighed. "Worrying is my job, Nightstar. You might as well as the sun to stop shining." She took a step back. "I'll leave those with you if you change your mind."
With that, she conceded defeat and padded back to the medicine den to see how her apprentices were getting on.

Batpaw, busy admiring the scenery of their territory, was a little startled by her mentor's question and stumbled over her own paws. She quickly righted herself, however, and flattened an ear sheepishly as she raised her head to meet Lionleap's eyes. "Yeah, I slept like a log! If there's one thing I don't miss about sharing a den with Twigpaw, it's the snoring!" she mrrowed, baring her teeth in a broad grin as she joked. "Do you think we'll have much luck? With prey, I mean." Batpaw had always tried her hardest to return to camp with at least something to show for her efforts, and she meant to continue that tradition today.
Twigpaw's head swung around to the entrance of the den at the sound of a new voice, expecting Reedwhisker or someone in need of treatment, but it was only Drizzlepaw. The other apprentice spent an awful lot of time hanging around the medicine den considering he wasn't a medicine cat and was rarely ever after herbs to treat something, he'd noticed. "Not really," he deadpanned, gesturing to the piles of herbs, "do you need something?" Drizzlepaw was nice enough, Twigpaw supposed, so he could never find it in him to go out of his way to be snappy with him, it just sort of happened anyway.

Drizzlepaw hesitated. Twigpaw had always been like this, but his deadpan, snarky was of speaking still was a little off-putting. "No, I just wanted to visit," he mewed. "Ryeheart didn't need anything right now, or, I don't think he did... I just wanted to... visit..." he kept smiling, and his voice perky.

Twigpaw was tempted to roll his eyes, but forced himself to refrain from doing so. "I think I saw him go hunting with Longwhisker," he mewed after a moment. He turned to Breezepaw briefly, but didn't say anything to the black apprentice, instead just looking at him while he thought. "Actually," he started, "mind helping us out for a bit?" He'd have to let Reedwhisker know, obviously - although he wasn't particularly looking forward to whatever her response would be - but he didn't see why Drizzlepaw couldn't help them out. "Reedwhisker wants us to go out and get burdock, catmint, cobwebs and..." he trailed off, wracking his brain for what else their mentor had listed, "oh, yeah, marigold. Fancy lending a paw or not?"

Whitestreak
The tuxedo she-cat purred happily, bending down to finish off her mouse only for Lavenderpaw to show up, her attention turning to the apprentice and her half eaten mouse forgotten for the moment. Her tail twitched curiously - had Foxfang forgotten his apprentice this morning? Lavenderpaw's words proved that, and she held back a snicker. Oh, the older tom would pay for that she was sure! He mewed her own quiet good morning absently as she though of something the poor apprentice could do - and Poppyface's idea was a good one. She smiled at the elder before adding on - "You could poke your nose into the Nursery and see if they would like a moss-cleaning, too, while you're at it!" She looked around camp quickly, spotting her son, Sleekpaw, practically asleep in a sunbeam. She supposed Bouncefoot forgot him much like Foxfang had forgotten Lavenderpaw, too.
"You could get Sleekpaw to help, too. He doesn't seem to be doing much of anything."
Sharppaw
Sharppaw, who was all but sulking - not that she'd ever admit to it - at the turn of events, perked right up at Swiftstrike's words, sending her mentor a grateful look at the, frankly, devious idea. She bobbed her head quickly and had a spring in her step as she hurried after Lionleap and Batpaw. She could absolutely deal with a little bit of hunting before Swiftstrike and her snuck off to practice what she really needed to practice. She'd catch a bunch of prey, and then, when the time was right, Swiftstrike and her would go and do some real training!
Longwhisker
The fluffy tom hummed, ambling in the general direction of both the river and the farm as he thought the question over. "How about we start with some fishing and, depending on our luck, we could try the farm after, or even head down towards the clearing?" He suggests, absently looking at the sunlight filtering through the trees, mouth slightly open as he took deep breaths of the fresh, clean air as they came closer to the river. "And if we do run into the dawn patrol, we could perhaps remind Foxfang and Bouncefoot of their forgotten apprentices?" He purred, whiskers trembling in amusement and suppressed laughter.

Swiftstrike
Forest around HollowClan Camp with Lionleap, Batpaw, Sharppaw Around Dawn
He didn't think for a moment that his apprentice would be against sneaking away from the other two after a little bit. And as expected, Sharppaw was rather quick to agree with the idea. But he didn't want to have the game away as to what they were planning, so simply let the tip of his tail twitch slightly, giving his apprentice a knowing look with a dip of his head as he trotted onward after Lionleap and Batpaw. They wouldn't run off right form the beginning, besides, if they did it now no doubt the other two would notice. But then he heard movement, pawsteps slowing again as his ears swivelled towards the small sound of rustling, "I think I hear something."
HollowClan Camp with Reedwhisker Around Dawn
"Well, you don't have to worry about me," he told the she-cat rather simply, fixing his amber gaze on the middle distance instead of the medicine cat or the herbs at his paws. She could start fussing over him when he got injured or was literally on death's door. But, right now, he felt in perfect health despite his age and really didn't need someone fussing over him like a newborn kit. He hadn't been one of those in many many moons.

Lavenderpaw nodded, turning her head to peer at Sleekpaw. "Yeah, I can grab that lazy lump of fur. I don't mind cleaning the dens, at least it's something to do," she mewed. She quickly sped over to Sleekpaw's napping spot and stood over him. "Hey, Sleekpaw," she said, jabbing him in the side with a paw. "Wake up."
Drizzlepaw sat up. "I'd love to help out," he responded. He always liked looking for herbs. It was a nice, peaceful experience... most of the time. He figured he was getting a little better at recognizing some of the herbs now, too. Maybe he could catch something along the way to give to his medicine cat apprentice pals. Maybe Twigpaw didn't eat enough, and that's why he was always in such a sour mood. "Do you think Reedwhisker will be okay with it?"

Twigpaw shrugged nonchalantly. "Don't see why she wouldn't be," he mewed. Almost as if on cue he spotted their mentor just outside the entrance, and called out to her. "Reedwhisker, is it okay for Drizzlepaw to come gathering with us?" he asked, raising his voice just enough for the she-cat to hear him properly.

Reedwhisker grunted as she padded into the den. "Why wouldn't it be? Always good to have more paws." She flicked her tail as she began re-organizing the herbs now that the rotten ones had been cleaned out. "Let me know if Nightstar comes to his senses and eats his herbs."

(Ok! I'll have Brightblaze talk to Nightstar and I'll wait on everyone else to get back to the camp before I throw in anyone else)
Brightblaze had just returned from a hunting trip with a plump quail clenched in his jaws. The ginger tom glanced around the camp when he spotted Nightstar sunning outside of his den, looking irritated, as usual, and alone. Raising his head higher so the bird didn't drag on the ground, Brightblaze trotted over and dropped his catch at the leader's paws. "Share with me?" He asked coolly, his amber colored eyes taking in the frail frame of the once fierce leader. As a kit, Brightblaze had idolized the black-and-orange tom, but now, it was hard not to pity him. Still, Brightblaze would show him the same respect Nightstar deserved, even if the old tom could be a little grouchy sometimes.

Lionleap purred at her apprentice's response, then glanced up at the sky. It was mostly blue now, with the sun making its way to the top of the sky. Only a few clouds dotted it ."I think so," she said. "Plenty of animals are coming out of their leaf-bare sleep. Hunting shouldn't take long at all, and then we'll do some battle practice after." She glanced over her shoulder at Swiftstrike and Sharppaw. "If those two will be patient enough, anyway," she added with a snicker. She knew how important fighting was to HollowClan, but being able to eat and feed the others was just as important in her mind. Soon the group of cats reached the river's stepping stones, and the golden she-cat started making her way across, leaping as gently as possible onto each rock.
Juniperpaw slowed down to walk beside Mallownose, looking up at her. "I hope we do," he said simply, his paws moving quickly to keep her normal pace. "Maybe most of the fish were just sleeping and now the river's full of them." Did fish even sleep? It felt like the river was constantly teeming with life no matter the time of day. The rest of the walk was quiet, with him pondering the sleep cycles of fish, until they approached the river bank. Juniperpaw hurried onto one of the flat stones that lay on its bank and stared down into the flowing waters.

Swiftstrike
Forest around HollowClan Camp with Lionleap, Batpaw, Sharppaw Around Dawn
The mackerel tabby was a little more than irked when no one else seemed to have heard him and just kept walking. Well, that wasn't going to stop him. He fell back from the rest of the group for a moment, snaking his way through the bushes towards the sound of rustling to find a mouse scuttling about. It was relatively easy to catch it, springing up from his haunches and landing right on top of the poor thing, a swift bite to kill it. Feeling rather satisfied with himself, Swiftstrike picked up his catch, trotting over under a tree and carefully burying it for later. And, luckily for him, he could still hear the others, picking up the pace as he broke through the bushes just behind them like he had never even gone anywhere in the first place. The warrior was silent for the rest of the trip until they reached the river, eyes watching Lionleap go first. "Apprentices next," he meowed, gesturing with a tail towards the two, "Just in case."
HollowClan Camp with Brightblaze Around Dawn
That morning it seemed as though no one was going to let him get the peace and quiet he deserved. No sooner at Reedwhisker parted, leaving the herbs she had brought at his paws, Brightblaze was coming over, but what the tom had in his mouth was far better than herbs. At least one of the warriors seemed to have respect. "That is an impressive catch," he complimented the ginger warrior as he placed the bird down, "It pleases me to see that the prey is still plentyful." And it was equally good to see that the kill pile was nice and full, unlike what it had been during leaf bare. With the river frozen over, a staple of their diet was completely gone and they had to rely on what little prey they could find running around in the snow.
Mallownose
HollowClan camp with Juniperpaw Around Dawn
The pale gray tabby she-cat gave a small mrr of amusement at her apprentices words. "Perhaps they were all just sleeping which is why I only managed to catch two," she agreed with a small dip of her head, "But now the sun is up, so they should all be awake." Mallownose was not all too sure if fish slept, and she never really found the catch rate to be different during the different times of day, but she was more than happy to play along with her apprentice for the time being. And it was not all too long before the sound or rushing water reached her ears, paws picking up the pace ever so slightly as they approached the river. "Remember," she meowed as Juniperpaw approached, "Do not let your shadow fall on the water, otherwise no fish will come near you."

Hearing his leader's praise, the ginger tom stood a little straighter, filled with pride, before taking a seat down across from Nightstar. "Thank you. And yes, the forest seems to be especially full of life today," Brightblaze replied, before gesturing with his paw for the higher ranking cat to take the first bite of the freshly caught prey. "Are there any patrols that you need led today?" He asked casually. The ambitious tom was always looking for ways he could show his leadership to Nightstar, as it was his dream to become deputy now that the position was open, and had been for some time. Of course, he was not even a senior warrior yet, but he hoped that his bravery and loyalty to HollowClan would make up for his younger age.

Forest around Camp with Foxfang Around Dawn
Jaywing waited while Foxfang got over the log as well before continuing to pad on towards the river. "I was thinking we could cross the river and head to the farm, then follow the border down towards the cliffs before coming back," he offered, turning his head towards the rest of the patrol as they padded on, "What do you think?" He didn't want to be the one making all the decisions, he was not the only one on this patrol.
HollowClan Camp with Brightblaze Around Dawn
"That is good that they are recovering after the cold leaf bare," it would just be more added worry onto his shoulders if the forest was lacking. They may still have the river full of fish and it was their primary food source, but the forest and the wood were also important. He dipped his head towards the prey at his feet, giving it a sniff before taking the first bite. It went down well, tongue licking around his muzzle. Though there was irritation creeping down his spine at the mention of patrols. "As I told Jaywing, if you are worried about patrols, then go and bother Mistyfoot." he really did not understand why so many cats were asking him about it.

Hearing Nightstar bring up Mistyfoot was enough to make Brightblaze stop chewing. Pausing to study the older black tom, the warrior chose his words carefully. "Nightstar...Mistyfoot has passed on. She's with StarClan now. And since you've yet to appoint a new deputy, you're in charge of patrols." Though he did his best not to offend Nightstar, Brightblaze wouldn't have been surprised if the leader didn't take the correction well. But either way, it was time Nightstar appointed a new deputy. He just wished there was a way to speed the process along. At this rate, Nightstar could die and leave the clan both without a leader or a deputy, which was the last thing they needed right now.

Rainsong listened to Jaywing's plan, mentally tracing the route they would take as he spoke, before nodding in agreement. "Sounds good to me," she mewed, "That way we can check to see if the river has dethawed yet," the tabby she-cat added. Once the ice was gone, the river would open up a whole new realm of prey that could feed the clan. She herself much preferred the taste of fish to that of mice or squirrels.
