(SmugGull that sounds great!
I'm thinking that perhaps a more dangerous and uncommon predator ventures down into the territory, like a wolf or a mountain lion, and the Clan might be divided on whether or not to go after it and eliminate it or avoid the risk of anybody getting killed. Sunstar would choose to go after the predator with a patrol, and he would lead it himself, but he puts the whole patrol in danger by doing something reckless in a fit of fury after the predator severely wounds a member of the patrol, especially as he's not really in his right mind at the moment because of Flightstar's death a few moons ago. If anybody else has any other ideas though I'd really love to hear them! I want to construct the plot together! I thought the older cats being the plotters would be a more controversial idea because like you said Wildbriar it is always the younger cats doing it; I think the older warriors would compare Sunstar to previous leaders who led the Clan more wisely as they were older and more experienced.)
Snowpaw beamed up at the other white tom, twitching his whiskers. "Yeah, we are! You'll be a great medicine cat, and I hope I can be a good warrior too," he mewed contemplatively. He suddenly got an idea and let out a small purr: "Do you ever wonder what your full name will be, after your apprenticeship? I do sometimes, but I haven't thought of anything that sounds right, you know?" He was only a couple of moons away from warriorhood, but of course he'd have to pass his assessment first, which would be a great challenge: StormClan's traditional warrior assessment was no easy feat, and he'd heard stories from the elders when he was younger about cats who never passed their warrior assessments. There's no way that's true, he thought, Flightstar never did that. Although he had only just started his apprenticeship when Flightstar lost her final life, he remembered their old leader well. The elders and the older warriors said she'd been their best leader since Wildstar.
(Also I think I'm going to set up a few StarClan/Dark Forest cats! They'll all be former StormClan cats like Flightstar, Wildstar, Stormstar and some others. If any of you guys would like to claim any of them when I write up the list, let me know!)

(Falcon and Kestrel will def be for the older warriors or least one of them)
Dawnfeather leaves the nursery and stretches her limbs. She settles down on her haunches and starts grooming her fur. While she groomed, Dawnfeather eyed the fresh kill pile.

(Streamheart will definitely be pro-Sunstar, Swiftstrike would likely be against him. Winterpaw will follow the route of least conflict lol)
"I think about it sometimes," Winterpaw responded, purring slightly. "You're a promising warrior, in my opinion, and you're really compassionate. I think you'd be Snowheart! Or... or maybe Snowfall?" He eyed his friend thoughtfully as he spoke. "I think I should be Winterbird, or Wintercloud." Truthfully, he had come up with an incredibly long list of names he might be given, but he didn't want to overwhelm Snowpaw with the assortment of ridiculous names he had thought up. "To be honest, I like to predict what every apprentice's name will be," he laughed.

(I think it'll be interesting to see how the conflict is resolved! I'll make a list of all the characters who are pro-Sunstar and anti-Sunstar tomorrow. I think I'll make an extra character or two who can be killed off for the sake of the plot; one will probably die on the patrol.)
"Snowfall sounds pretty cool," the white tom admitted, a purr rumbling in his throat, "and I think Winterbird sounds like the name of StormClan's best medicine cat ever." He gave Winterpaw a nudge with his shoulder and curled his tail around his paws. "It's so weird to think that in a couple of moons neither of us will be apprentices anymore, we're really going to serve the Clan properly," he said, his voice soft with contemplative thought.

ThistleshadeThistleshade looked up from where she had been surveying the Fresh-kill pile and going over possible hunting patrols in her mind. "Willownose," She meowed, nodding to the younger she-cat, "I was just considering that very issue." Thistleshade pondered the problem for a moment, before seemingly making a decision. "Badgertuft and Copperthroat. They can take their Apprentices for some training and perhaps bring a few things back. I know Quailfang will be training Applepaw in battle techniques today and it will do Applepaw and Oakpaw good to spend some more time apart..."
She thought a bit longer, before continuing. "We'll get two others, since I don't expect a training session to bring in much prey. Streamheart, Falconfrost and Sootnose can go in one of them... And I haven't been on patrol in a while, so you and I can go with Kestrelstrike. Sound good?" She asked, a small smile playing over her face.
BadgertuftBadgertuft yawned widely as he heaved himself out of the Warrior's den. A purr rumbled from deep in his chest as he ambled into Camp, eyes half-closed in the weak morning light. He yawned, rubbing a paw over his eyes to wipe away the last remnants of sleep. Glancing around, he smiled warmly as he saw Snowpaw, his awkward Apprentice, actually interacting with one of his peers of his own free will. Pride filled his chest, making him puff up a little. Clumsy and socially awkward he may be, but Snowpaw was shaping up into a fine Warrior. Chuckling to himself, Badgertuft settles down to groom his fur and get ready for the day ahead. ApplepawApplepaw opened her mouth to agree, before frowning. "Don't forget," She reminded him quietly, stretching out, "We can't eat until the Elders, Queens and Kits are fed now. We probably won't be allowed to eat until we've been out hunting." Yawning she got to her paws and shook out her short, sleek fur. "In any case," She continued, smiling over at Oakpaw with shining eyes, "We should go see what's going on. I think Quailfang's away on the dawn patrol, so maybe we can take prey to Redwing and see her kits!" She bounded over to the Den entrance and poked her head out, ducking back in immediately. Applepaw peeked outside, seeing Willownose talking with the Deputy. She felt her face heat under her fur as she took in the Warrior's glossy coat that shone in the light.

The route to the top of Eagle's Outlook was a simple one - so simple, in fact, that Quailfang let his mind wander to Applepaw's battle training. He knew what he wanted to teach her today, but he wasn't sure how quickly she'd pick up on it, or how well she'd take to battle in general. If -
The wind shifted and Quailfang's hackles raised. The breeze carried an unfamiliar scent - a meat-eater, like a cat but worse somehow and Quailfang didn't recognize it. It was stale enough that he didn't think whatever it was was close by, but fresh enough to make him nervous. He signaled with his tail for the patrol to halt and opened his mouth to taste the air.

(Sorry for the double-post, my laptop is messing up)
Redwing awoke slowly as the sun rose, blinking at the light that seeped into the nursery. She glanced down at her belly, where Stormkit, Scorchkit, and Spottedkit were still slumbering. Privately, she hoped they'd stay that way for a while — she adored her kits, she did, but they were such a pawful.
Scorchkit shifted around to burrow into Stormkit's side. Redwing purred, reaching over to give him a quick lick to smooth down the Tufts of fur on his head.

ApplepawApplepaw scowled as fiercely as she could, adorable little face screwing up in an indignant huff at her brother's statement as she dug her paw gently into his side in retaliation. "Oh hush," She grumbled, face already settling into a small smile. Applepaw adored her brother and could never stay mad at him, not even for a few minutes. "Wait until you like somebody," She warned him, ducking in close as they exited the Den, "I'm gonna tease you so much, just you wait." Applepaw fell silent for a moment, pushing down the warmth that wanted to erupt on her face again upon noticing that Willownose was right by the fresh-kill pile. Puffing out a breath, she turned to her brother. "I think we just have to feed Redwing and Dawnfeather. I don't know if the kits are eating prey yet, but we can always come grab more if they are."

Copperthroat stood a little ways away from from Thistleshade and dipped her head. "Sounds good." She turned to Oakpaw and Applepaw and twitched her ears to the entrance of the camp. "We can go if you two are done teasing each other," she mewed, and then rolled her eyes with a smirk. She had never had a crush herself, but thought they were sappy and sweet like honey. "Which means around now, yeah?" she then added. She didn't like wasting daylight on just standing around, and her paws itched to move.
--
Sootnose was back at camp and looked at Thistleshade. "Hunting? Alright," he meowed. His muscles were already stretched from walking in the forest earlier and he bit at the burrs still stuck on his fur. He grumbled incoherently to himself as he removed them and licked his fur back down, but once it was crisp again he was satisfied. "Well, I'm ready to go. How about you?" he asked the two warriors that would accompany him. He hadn't been on a hunting patrol in a little bit and was excited to catch something in his paws.

(i'm not 100%, i thought there was a dawn patrol but Sootnose was summoned for a hunting patrol so he's going on a hunting patrol now)
Copperthroat sat down and drew a paw over her ear. "I didn't know, sorry. We should aim to try to catch a bit more prey on the way back than I thought we should," she murmured, half to herself. She made a mental note to try to be more patient with the apprentices, something she was constantly trying to work on in general. Glancing up at Oakpaw as he was standing by the prey pile, she decided to wait until he came to her so she didn't say something snappy again.

Falconfrost lets out a small grunt. He didn't care what he did long as he was able to leave camp for a little bit. Falconfrost glances at the other warriors to see if they were ready to go.

SilverstrikeSilverstrike felt his fur bristle as he stepped up beside Quailfang. "What is that?" He hissed lowly, opening his mouth to drag the scent across the roof of his maw. Silverstrike's insides seemed to twist in fear. Whatever the scent was, it made him nervous without him even knowing what it was. "It smells like a predator..." He murmured, eyes darting around. A sharp cry pulled him from his thoughts and drew his eyes into the air. An eagle rode the airwaves quite a bit further out. It was outside the territory, but was closer than he had seen an eagle in moons. ApplepawApplepaw nudged her brother. She ducked her head in respect to Copperthroat, deliberately not looking at where Willownose was standing by Thistleshade. She surveyed the dwindling fresh-kill pile, before snagging a plump squirrel. Applepaw had fallen back into the semi-emotionless state she relied on when out and about. She hated to draw attention to herself and so hunched her shoulders slightly as she started towards the Nursery. She saw Dawnfeather sitting outside it and bowed her head slightly to the expecting Queen. "Good morning, Dawnfeather," She murmured, not looking the older she-cat in the eye, "My brother and I have brought prey for you and Redwing." [/div]

The brief grooming had woken up Scorchkit, which meant his sisters wouldn't be far behind. "Cold," he mumbled, burrowing further against Redwing's thick, fluffy coat.
"I know, sweetling," Redwing cooed. "But one day you'll have a big fluffy pelt and you'll never be cold again."
"Fluffy like you?" Scorchkit sounded more alert now.
Redwing's whiskers twitched. "Fluffier," she promised, licking the top of his head. She looked up as Applepaw and Oakpaw entered the den bearing fresh-kill.
"Oh, thank you both," Redwing said warmly, wrapping her tail around the now-stirring Stormkit and Spottedkit.
"Whozzat?" Scorchkit mewed, poking his head out of Redwing's chest fur to stare at the squirrel hanging from Applepaw's mouth. ~~~ Quailfang remained motionless for several heartbeats, waiting to see if the strange smell grew stronger. When it didn't, he glanced back at Swiftshadow. "Run back to camp and tell Thistleshade we've scented a strange predator between the camp and Eagle's Outlook," he murmured. The choice to inform the deputy over Sunstar was deliberate — Thistleshade, as far as Quailfang knew, would best know how to deliver the news to Sunstar without causing a panic. "Silverstrike and I will continue the patrol."
It was a risky move, but not a ridiculous one — with the rest of the border secured, the clan could more easily focus on the threat of the strange predator. If they left borders unpatrolled, however, there was no telling what else could be lurking in the area. Unfortunately, that meant leaving the predator to its own devices for a short while.

(owlspots Sorry for the late reply!)
Brackenberry hesitated. “Well, no, not really. I haven’t been visited by StarClan since we went to the the Starlake. It’s just…” The tabby shook her head slowly. “Well, when I first became a full medicine cat, Stormstar told me that I had been given the gift of foresight. Somehow I just get these feelings, which reflect the Clan’s reaction to events in the near future. Lately I’ve been feeling uneasy. There’s just this sense of...foreboding that’s been hanging over me. And my dreams...I can’t make anything out of them. They’re just filled with darkness, shadows, cloudshade, and whispers. I think-”
Brackenberry took a deep breath, then glanced around to make sure no one was in earshot and leaned closer, dropping her voice to a whisper. Sunstar might not want to worry the Clan with this trouble yet; that’s what Flightstar would have done, anyway, and Brackenberry knew that Sunstar tried his hardest to emulate the former StormClan leader.
“I think that trouble is coming to StormClan. But not the trouble everyone usually thinks of-that of warfare-otherwise my dreams would be filled with blood and bodies and slashing claws. No, this is different.” The medicine cat squared her shoulders and met Sunstar’s gaze directly. “This trouble has to do with lies and secrets, espionage and betrayal. There is darkness everywhere. And there’s only one force I can imagine that has the potential to embody that. Trouble from within."

(my two mice — Sunstar himself is young and could be seen as "one of us" by younger cats who grew up with him/saw him as a role model or older sibling figure. Whereas older cats see him as a dangerous, reckless cat who doesn't know what he's doing and is endangering the clan. I think "reckless pursuit of predator" works pretty well - it appeals to the bold, headstrong nature of most younger cats while angering older warriors, especially if the older warriors take the brunt of the casualties.)

Redwing purred at Oakpaw's comment. "They grow fast," she agreed. "It seems like only yesterday they'd just opened their eyes." She tore a small morsel of meat away from the mouse. "Here, Scorchkit, try a bit of mouse." At five weeks, it was time for the kits to start eating fresh-kill - they would still be nursing for a while, if Redwing remembered correctly, but the transition took a while.
Scorchkit sniffed it cautiously, then delicately took it in his teeth and nibbled at it. "It's weird," he mumbled.
"It's mouse, dear."

(Thank you all! Yes, you're right there should be a reason and it would have to be a good one; perhaps some warriors become convinced that StarClan could not want such a reckless leader, and they are sending the Clan signs through the predators and the deaths/injuries that Sunstar should not lead. I might open a discussion thread for the plot later today! Sunstar would likely trust his older and more experienced warriors to take the lead with the predator attacks and so they would most probably take the brunt of the injuries. I'm also thinking that the rebellion might not be outright in that there wouldn't be any attacks on Sunstar, etc. but more like the Rowanstar situation where his Clanmates bullied him out of power for being 'weak' and unfit to lead. I'll catch up on roleplay posts when I get home, I've got exams to sit today!)
