Copperthroat turned her head to look at Oakpaw and nodded. "As soon as Snowpaw and Badgertuft are ready to leave, we'll go. I think we'll focus on defensive moves for today," she then added. In her head, she wasn't sure if she had taught many defensive moves at all. She wondered if that said something about her nature and she felt her face go warm. Shuffling her paws, she turned back to Badgertuft. "Ready?" she asked.

Listening to the songs of the forest birds was something Breezebounce would never get tired of on his walks. The long-legged grey tom paused, halting in his tracks for a moment to tilt his head towards the sky. A small, brown bird flitted between the tree branches over his head, and he purred. He was out here to hunt for the Clan, but something in him just couldn't bring him to kill the birds who sang so sweetly.

Thistleshade"I'm afraid that good news is most definitely not what I have for you," The grey-blue she-cat replied grimly, sitting close and curling her tail around her paws. She lowered her voice, making sure it wouldn't carry to the others nearby. "Swiftshadow has returned early from the border patrol with worrying information," She began, unease in her normally placid voice, "They have scented something strange on the way to the Overlook - A predator of a kind even Quailfang has never encountered. Swiftshadow was... incredibly nervous at the thought of the scent, though she tried to hide it." She shifted slightly, before forcing herself to still. SilverstrikeIgnoring Quailfang's slight stumble, Silverstrike launched himself up beside the older warrior, claws finding the familiar route with ease. He pulled himself up the last ledge and shook out his fur. Turning his attention to their task, he surveyed the land and sky. He saw the same shapes wheeling in the sky and huffed. "Those eagles might become a problem," He grumbled, checking to make sure Quailfang hadn't hurt himself from the corner of his eye.
BadgertuftBadgertuft huffed fondly at Snowpaw, before turning his attention to Copperthroat. "I do believe we're ready to go," He replied, standing and shaking out his thick fur. He began to lead the way out of Camp, large paws almost silent on the soft floor of the glade. He ducked through the tunnel leading out of Camp and paused, turning to his companions. "What do you think?" He rumbled, head tilted in thought, "Training Clearing? We can leave you and Oakpaw there while we head a little further in to practice hunting techniques." ApplepawApplepaw giggled at Scorchkit, starry-eyed at the charming actions of the three little balls of fur. "If there's nothing else you need, Redwing," She mewed, crouching down to grin at the kits, "Then I should head to the Elder's Den." She didn't really want to leave, but she had duties to attend to. As a new Apprentice, she didn't want to give her Mentor any reason to believe her lazy. She hoped Quailfang would be pleased with her when he returned and that meant doing whatever she could to help.

Totally oblivious to the tom below, Owlswoop stalked closer and closer to the edge of the branch. His golden eyes flicked between the end of the branch and his prey. The object of his attention was the bird flapping through the branches. He crouched as it neared. Yes, its song was sweet and if he wasn't hunting, he might have spared the feathered prey. However, there were hungry kits and queens back at camp and Owlswoop, hoping to gain at least one of the queen's approval, would not let this chance pass. With this thought, he leaped. The prey feel limp in his jaws. The thrill of victory coursed through the tom as he landed on the ground. He purred quickly loudly as he dropped his prey to the ground. It was only with the scent of bird gone did he realize there was an audience. The purr didn't stop as he turned to greet his clanmate, "Hey Breezebounce! Do you think the kits will like this?" He nudged the prey with his paw.

Copperthroat nodded as she stood up, and she began to follow. "The training grounds sound great. We can meet up when we're done, or at sunhigh." Feeling the fresh sunlight hitting her dark fur, she gave it a shake and sneezed. The clouds lazed across the sky and occasionally covered the sun and she purred in delight as she turned to Oakpaw. "Looks like the sun won't be in our eyes the whole time!" She continued to walk with the small group until she was in the familiar and slightly nostalgic area of the training grounds. The smooth, grassy ground held fond memories of her mentor, and she stood for a moment living in her memories. She shook her head, and looked back at the others. "Here we are."
--
Sootnose nodded to Streamheart even though he was vaguely aware he was a bit too far for her to see him, and he continued to sniff around the flora on the ground. Inhaling deeply, he appreciated the fresh air and earthy smells that were grounding in their presence. His ear flicked at the sound of sniffing and scraping, and he almost felt the smell of mouse bathe his tongue. He flattened down, but his tail flopped on the ground so hard the mouse ran away from fright. He scowled. "What a dumb mistake, I'm not an apprentice anymore!" He turned to sulk, but decided that if he really wasn't an apprentice he wouldn't make a big deal out of it. He sat up and thought about whether he should try to find something on the way back to camp or if he should check on Falconfrost's hunting and see how much luck he was having. He got up and padded over to Falconfrost after some internal debating, but made sure to step lightly so he didn't scare away any prey.

Snowpaw stood slightly off to the side, sheathing and unsheathing his claws to grip the ground underneath him. He was pretty confident with his battle techniques, so he hoped Badgertuft would let him practice them with Oakpaw for a bit before they went hunting. He waited for Badgertuft to address him and let him know what they would be doing.
Breezebounce shot almost a tail-length into the air as Owlswoop landed right in front of him. With his fur on end, he stared at Owlswoop in shock. The bird he had just been admiring lay dead at his Clanmate's paws, and Breezebounce couldn't bear to look at it. For a moment he was speechless, mouth moving but no words leaving him. "H-Hullo, Owlswoop," he managed to almost wheeze out. He quickly cleared his throat. "Yes, I'm sure they will," he assured his Clanmate, glancing regretfully at the carcass of the little bird. He returned the tom's purr with a rather rusty one of his own. "H-How are you, Owlswoop?"
Sunstar's ears flattened. "It's as I feared," he murmured, his eyes widening, "the mountains have finally come to attack StormClan." The ginger tom paced in a quick circle, lashing his tail, before rounding on Thistleshade. "Thistleshade, I need a patrol out to follow the scent. Whoever you can muster as soon as you can," he instructed, speaking rather quickly. He paused for a moment. "I'll lead it. We'll follow the scent as far as it goes, and if we find the thing, we'll chase it off before anything else follows it into our territory. But I need some cats to remain in camp to defend the queens and the elders in case there's an attack." He glanced around, eyes scanning the camp almost frantically. He was about to speak again when he noticed that Thistleshade and Brackenberry, although unnerved, had remained relatively calm. He took a deep breath so he could think clearly. "Five cats plus myself should do. We'll leave when the patrols return," he decided, steadying his voice.

Quailfang sighed at the younger warrior's words as he sat down to examine his paw. "Because we don't have enough of those right now." His misjudgement had caused a piece of his claw to chip off, leaving the edge ragged, painful, and bleeding slightly. He licked it clean and flexed his claws experimentally, hiding a grimace - it hurt, but it was workable. He could finish the patrol and deal with it once they got back to camp. Below them was sprawled the extent of StormClan territory - not huge, but enough to be proud of. Part of him was tempted to have them split up and each take half the border line (all the better to get back to camp as quickly as possible) but good sense prevailed. He got to his feet. "Come on," he meowed, beckoning Silverstrike back down the outcrop and toward the sunrise-border. By his estimate, they'd finish the patrol and return to camp about halfway to sunhigh. ~~ Redwing purred at Applepaw's expression. "We're just fine," she promised, nudging Stormkit away from the den entrance. It was too early to be waking everyone up with kittens. "Say hello to Swiftstrike for me."

Owlswoop's chest fur puffed out when the other tom agreed with him. He knew his calling as a mentor was going to be answered soon. He had leaned down to pick up the bird when Breezebounce voiced his question. Well, the bird won't be warm when delieved but a cold bird was better than brushing off a clanmate. The tom straightened up and began chatting like he wasn't planning on leaving. "Good! The sun is out so hunting is nice, ya know? It's terrible to hunt when it is raining." He shivered, thinking about the hunts which left his pelt soaked and belly empty. He looked to the sky, just to make sure the sun was still out and no clouds were threatening to ruin this perfect day. Then, he looked back to the other warrior and remembered the glances at the bird. Suddenly, everything made sense. "Ah! Were you out hunting too? The bird must have been your prey. Sorry for stealing the catch. I can help you find another bird or something." He said, actually sounding apologetic and regretful.

Spottedkit's head popped out from the side of the nest when she saw something move. She blinked when she saw her brother slowly move towards the entrance. What was he doing? She looked towards her mother and then at her brother. Their mother did try to keep them close but Spottedkit couldn't see a reason why they couldn't go out. The kit wanted to see the camp anyways. With one last look, she scrambled out of the nest and to her brother. She bumped into his ginger fur and had to shake her head. "Are you going to see camp?" She asked in a hushed voice.

Breezebounce nodded along, momentarily distracted by the chirp of yet another bird hidden from his view somewhere in the treetops. Hearing Owlswoop's voice but not quite catching everything that was said, the grey tom was only able to pick up on the last part as he turned his head to look at his Clanmate again. "A-Ah, no, I wasn't hunting it. I was listening to it sing," he explained rather sheepishly, semi-flattening his ears in embarrassment, "I was just out for a walk. But if you'd like to keep hunting for a while, I'd be glad to come with. The Clan needs all the food it can get." He took a breath to calm himself and swished his white-tipped tail almost lazily in the dirt.
Plumpaw rolled over where she lay by the freshkill-pile, soaking in the sun.

(I just checked the allegiances and at this rate the rebellion is just gonna be Quailfang, Windstep, and maybe, like. Badgertuft lmao. All the warriors are young right now.)
Scorchkit jumped as his sister's voice sounded in his ear. "Shhh!" he hissed (even though she hadn't been that loud - he'd just been startled). "I want to see Sunstar," he whispered. "And Thistleshade! And the rest of the warriors..."

Owlswoop nodded, pleased he hadn't disrupted his clanmate's hunt. He hoped Breezebounce wouldn't hold onto a grudge for Owlswoop interrupting the song. At the mentioning of hunting more, the warrior shook his head. "I'm not on an official hunt. I just wanted to get the queens something." He hesitated before speaking his next words. He didn't like admitting his "tactics" for getting an apprentice but he didn't want to seem like he was sweet on one of the queens. He didn't want any misunderstandings. "You know, I just want them to think I'm good enough to train one of their kits. I know I am but they don't know. I guess they might but I really want to mentor one of them. Have you seen the kits yet? They are really cute and fuzzy." He rambled on in his typical fashion, not really noticing the other tom's frayed nerves.
---
Spottedkit's ear flattened and she crouched away from her brother when he hissed. "Sorry." She whispered. She recovered quickly, also determined to explore outside. She looked from her mother to the entrance several times before nudging her brother with her head. "Now. Go, go, go." She urged before hurrying out herself. The clearing was so...big. there were so many smells, so much movement, and so many...things. The she-kit didn't know where to look first. Should she go explore the stone pile or one of the dens? She really wanted to climb but she wanted to explore the dens. They had to have something cool in them. The longer she stood in the clearing, the more she noticed all of the cats in the clearing. Her ears flicked when a couple of them spotted her and didn't look away. She looked back for her brother, hoping he had also followed her out. He would know what to do and where to go.

ThistleshadeThistleshade hesitated. It seemed a little sudden to her, going to chase it off without even knowing what it was, but she shook it off. Sunstar was her Leader and his word was law. "Of course, Sunstar," She meowed, bowing her head, "Might I suggest that either Silverstrike, Quailfang or both go with you as well? They will know the scent and the exact area where they came across it." She considered her Clanmates for a few moments. "Beyond them... Streamheart, Copperthroat and maybe Falconfrost as well. We can catch Copperthroat at the Training Grounds and ask Badgertuft to take Oakpaw for a bit." SilverstrikeSilverstrike sighed in agreement, leaping down beside Quailfang and following the older tom. he had a feeling that it would be a long day. "Let's get this done as quick as we can," The Warrior muttered, trotting at a quick, but easy pace. He wouldn't want to skip anything by accident, but he definitely wanted back to Camp quick. His fur still prickled with unease as he kept his ears alert. Whatever was out there was not going to sneak up on him.
BadgertuftBadgertuft considered Snowpaw and Oakpaw for a moment, before turning to Copperthroat. "We can hang around for a little while if you want anybody to help demonstrate on," He meowed in amusement, eyeing his hopeful Apprentice, "If not, then Snowpaw and I shall head into the forest a bit to practice hunting birds." knowing what Snowpaw would prefer made Badgertuft want to give in and say they'd stay no matter what, but he knew that his Apprentice would never improve without practice. ApplepawApplepaw nodded and left the nursery with a tail flick goodbye. She headed immediately back to the fresh-kill pile, sighing at the thought of the meagre offerings that were there before. She perked up when the scent of fish hit her nose. 'Finchcall and Swiftstrike should be happy,' She thought, padding quicker and not noticing where she was going. With a yelp, she tripped over Plumpaw's tail, landing on the sleeping Apprentice. Scrambling back, she ducked her head and began apologising profusely to the usually snappy she-cat. [/quote]

(SmugGull Yeah I noticed that too, which is why I'm leaning heavily towards a mixed group. I'm assuming a lot of the younger generations wouldn't be as traditional as the elder ones, and so they'd likely be a lot less devout and resolute in their belief in StarClan, which I guess lead some of them to think that StarClan don't know what they're doing by appointing Sunstar as leader when he's clearly losing it?? I'm honestly not quite sure. I might prolong the rebellion plot just a little longer so it has more of a buildup with Sunstar making lots of unpopular decisions.
Hawkeyes258 don't worry about it! If you need a recap just let me know. ^^)
Breezebounce formed a full purr this time, his tail sweeping the leaves. "Yes, they're very little," he agreed fondly, "I'm sure Redwing would love for you to mentor one of them." He meant what he said; Owlswoop was by far one of Breezebounce's favourite cats in the Clan, and they'd grown up together so he liked to think he knew the boxy tom particularly well. "I don't think I'd be able to mentor an apprentice yet, I'd be so scared of doing something wrong," he admitted sheepishly, twitching an ear, "and the kits probably have more backbone than I do - I doubt I'd be able to teach them much." Hopefully he'd be ready for an apprentice one day; he'd love to be able to teach a young cat the ways of being a warrior.
Sunstar nodded. "Yes, I'll take both Silverstrike and Quailfang," he decided, surprisingly a lot calmer than he had been only moments ago. He was aware that his decision to seek out the unknown animal was a brash one; they had no clue what the thing even was, let alone how dangerous it would be. But Sunstar was terrified, even if he would never admit it out loud. StormClan was depending on him to lead and protect them and he could not let anything jeopardise the safety of the cats who put their faith in him. Flightstar, please tell me what to do.
Snowpaw couldn't disguise the small twinge of disappointment he felt, but it was Badgertuft's decision and he'd never dream of challenging his mentor. Badgertuft wanted to see him improve, and Snowpaw knew that in order to do so he'd have to go hunting and practice. I'll never be a warrior if I can't hunt, he chastised himself.
Plumpaw's voice raised to a near screech as she jolted awake, scrambling to her paws with her claws extended. When her eyes fell on Applepaw, cowering and already spewing apologies, she scoffed. "Watch where you're going!" she hissed, sheathing her claws and attempting to flatten her spiked fur. She shook herself out and took a moment to calm her pounding heart. "Looking for something for the elders?" she asked sullenly, casting a scathing glance at the tiny pile of freshkill, "I wouldn't bother, everything on there's skin and bones." Her stomach growled and she lashed her tail. "Great StarClan, I'm starving."

(I actually have no idea what season it is in RP right now, so if it's not actually leaf-bare that's my bad.)
Scorchkit's mouth dropped open as he wriggled into the open. He'd heard the camp before and caught glimpses of it whenever other cats stopped by, but Redwing had been adamant that they stay in the nursery during leaf-bare. Something about it being cold.
"Woah..." he breathed. He craned his neck, staring around at all the cats milling about. "Can you see Sunstar?" he whispered to his sister.

Owlswoop let out a meow of protest. "No! You're a good warrior too. You're smart and quiet. One of the best hunters I know. An apprentice would be proud to be trained by you. Plus, I think the queens would be happy to know you wouldn't be bring their kittens into any rash situation." He rose to his paws and gave the other tom a grin. "Hunting is back on!" He declared a bit too loudly. They would have to move before hunting if they wanted to find something not hiding in their den. Owlswoop didn't think of lowering his voice. He was determined to train an apprentice with his denmate now. This was even better than just training an apprentice. "We are going to hunt down the best, fattest piece of prey for the queens and kits for you to give to the queens. The queens will be impressed by our kills and recommend us for mentorship." Perfect plan. StarClan wouldn't be able to come up with a batter one, Owlswoop silently decided. He quickly buried his prey and looked over to Breezebounce. "Ready?" He asked, practically vibrating with energy.
---
Spottedkit looked around camp. There were so many cats. One would move to show someone behind them. She rose to her hind legs in hopes of seeing over the cats but predictability, there was no change. She dropped back to four paws. Suddenly, she realized she didn't know what the leader looked like. Any of these cats could be Sunstar, if the apprentices were ignored. She sighed. This was too hard. She didn't care about meeting the leader. She didn't understand why her brother wanted to meet him. She wanted to see more of camp. "I don't know." She said, taking one last glance at camp before focusing her attention on her brother, "Let's go look somewhere else."

Scorchkit's shoulders slumped. "Okay..." he mumbled. "What about the apprentices' den?" he suggested. "We'll be sleeping there soon!" Five moons wasn't that many, right? (It was. It absolutely was and he was going to explode waiting to be apprenticed.) He glanced over his shoulder to see that Redwing had dozed off once more, curled neatly around Stormkit. "Or the elder's den," he added, since he actually kind of knew where that was. ~~ Quailfang limped for a few steps as they walked before adjusting his gait to keep most of his weight off his torn claw. The borders were quiet - he occasionally caught a whiff of fox stalking along the edge of the territory, but it was stale and distant so he largely dismissed it.
The patrol made its way about halfway around the border before Quailfang caught the strange scent again. It was stronger here, but stale - as if the creature had slept here a few days prior but moved on. "Smell that?" he asked quietly, leaning towards Silverstrike.

Spottedkit hummed as she looked around camp. Her tail twitched back and forth as she tried to determine which place in camp was the best to explore. She didn't want to explore the elder's den since they could already do that. The rest...well, she didn't know where anyone else stayed. "There?" She said, pointing a paw towards a bramble and moss den. She thought it looked cool, even if she had no clue what ranked cat it housed. She hoped her brother would think so too and be cheered up after not finding Sunstar.

(Hawkeyes258 Swiftshadow returned to camp to tell Thistleshade about a strange scent, Thistleshade informed Sunstar who had a bit of a meltdown and decided to lead a patrol to hunt down the origin of the scent and chase the creature out of StormClan territory. The rebellion plot is being pushed back so Sunstar's unpopularity within the Clan has time to fester and steadily rise. Silverstrike and Quailfang are still out on patrol, Badgertuft, Copperthroat and their apprentices are training, and the hunting patrols are still out.)
Breezebounce found it hard not to be energised by the enthusiasm radiating from the other tom, and he purred loudly. He hoped that Owlswoop was right and that he might be a possible candidate for a mentor to one of the kits when they came of age. "That sounds like a perfect plan," he agreed with a grin. Although startled by Owlswoop's unabashedly loud exclamation, Breezebounce was able to remain calm - excited, even. "We'll be mentors together!" he decided firmly, tail fluffing out.
"If you'll excuse me, I need a little time to collect my thoughts," Sunstar dipped his head to Thistleshade and Brackenberry, murmuring a soft farewell as he turned away. He had thought about going back to his den, but with a flash of dismay he realised that doing so would do nothing to remove his reputation as a recluse from the gossip of his Clanmates. If he wanted to earn his place as their leader, he could not shut himself away in his den and hope StarClan can solve everything. The ginger tom stood tall and lashed his tail, decidedly walking away from the gathering rock. He could've sworn he caught a small sliver of movement out of the corner of his eye that startled him - minuscule and far below his line of vision to be any warrior or apprentice. He approached cautiously, weaving his way around Plumpaw and Applepaw who stood with bristling fur facing one another. What he had been expecting was a particularly courageous butterfly or an insect of some sort - he had certainly not anticipated two pairs of owlish eyes belonging to two very tiny kits to be blinking up at him. Sunstar's purr rumbled in the back of his throat, and he lowered his muzzle to the little ones. "Shouldn't you be with your mother?" he asked softly.

ThistleshadeThistleshade ducked her head in farewell as Sunstar walked off. She allowed the tension in her shoulders to ease slightly, a deep sigh made her seem to curl in on herself just slightly. She glanced at Brackenberry from the corner of her eye. Shaking her head, she turned her attention fully to the Medicine Cat. "While we are here, Brackenberry," She meowed, face once more impassive, "If you would be so kind to take at least one Warrior with you when you leave Camp, just until this situation is resolved." SilverstrikeSilverstrike bristled, inhaling the strange scent. He forced himself to pad closer, ears and eyes on alert. "Whatever it is," He hissed quietly, taking in the area where the scent was strongest, "It's much bigger than a cat." He turned worried eyes to Quailfang. "This thing smells like it's been in our territory for days, and this is the first time we've scented it," He mewed, distressed at the thought, "What if it's moved inwards by now, closer to Camp. There are kits there, Quailfang." ApplepawApplepaw cowered as Plumpaw screeched at her, ears pinned back in fear. The other Apprentice was already half-way to becoming a Warrior, much more impressive than Applepaw's few days as an Apprentice. Still, Plumpaw calmed down and Applepaw calmed her shaking, cautiously letting her ears relax. "Yes, the Queens have been f-fed and I was going to bring F-finchcall and S-swiftstrike something," She explained, stammering slightly, "There's a new f-fish there, I thought if they s-shared it, it m-might keep them going until the p-patrols bring back s-something better." She kept her eyes down, too scared to look directly at the older she-cat, her tail tucked firmly beneath her. She started badly as Streamheart came over, cringing back a little from the Warrior.

Plumpaw looked up at her mentor, visibly sulking. "I hate fish," she grumbled under her breath, already wincing at the sharp aroma of the prey at her paws. She glanced at Applepaw, feeling a twinge of guilt as she noticed how the younger she-cat was trembling. "Hey, Applepaw," she started, voice thick with obvious reluctance, "sorry for snapping. It was...really rude of me." She knew Streamheart would realise that she'd upset Applepaw whether she apologised or not, so she figured she might as well get it over with before her mentor rounded on her. And I feel bad. She reached out with a paw and hooked the new fish that Applepaw had mentioned with the ends of her claws, pushing it towards the other apprentice. "I, uh, I'm sure they'll appreciate it," she half-grunted, not meeting Applepaw's eyes. She then glanced again at Streamheart and cringed under the older she-cat's stare, lowering her head to take a bite out of the fish she had been told to eat. The pungent flavour crawled over her tongue and she almost gagged, but forced herself to take a second and third bite, swallowing with difficulty.

Streamheart nodded in approval at Plumpaw's apology. She remembered what it was like to be a new apprentice and understood how intimidating older cats could seem. The warrior brushed her tail along Applepaw's back, giving her a soft look. "You're doing great, Applepaw," she murmured before turning back towards Plumpaw. She could tell her apprentice wasn't fond of the fish taste, but she was determined to keep the young cat healthy and safe. "As warriors, sometimes we have to do things we don't like to keep ourselves strong, like eating the herbs Brackenberry and Winterpaw gives us when we're sick," she explained, deciding to turn the experience into a lesson. "It may not taste great to you, but it's something. Remember, we must be thankful for every piece of prey we get."
