Dove Dance ~ * ~ * ~ After working through every combo she could think of, then making up a few of her own, Dove finally stopped. She kept her fists raised, eyes on the punching bag, and body ready for action for several more seconds, as if the bag were a real opponent and she had to make sure he was well and truly defeated before she relaxed. Then, with a deep intake of air, followed by a slow exhale, she relaxed her stance and started walking in a circle around the punching bag, stretching out her arms as she moved. As she was circling, she caught sight of a guy over by the weights. Normally, she would have dismissed him within seconds, but this one held her attention because he was staring. She arched her brows at him. "See something you like?" she asked.

Shade Comet ~ * ~ * ~ Shade chuckled. "I can certainly try," he replied with a half smile. He wasn't big on using his powers to cheat himself, but he had no qualms helping the mayor do so if he truly wanted to.
Echo Strike ~ * ~ * ~ Echo stood still under her perusal, his lips tilting in a small, smug smile. Even with a scorch mark across his abdomen, he knew he was hot - and quite literally, in that moment. He snickered at her use of "mind invader" - Shade would love that, but smirked at her command. "I make no promises, sweetheart!" he called after her. He wondered briefly if being late often enough would get him fired.Grinning, the mayor slapped the young special on the back. “Good man! I’ll look forward to working with you!” Of course, such cheating was illegal, and heavily monitored. But the mayor was known to cut corners ever now and again. Plus, he was the most powerful man in the city. Who would dare to challenge him? “Now, what was your name again, son?” (So I’m thinking the mayor has to be a special bc he’s in a position of power. Anyone have any ideas of what it should be?) // Rora just rolled her eyes at his comment, but didn’t turn around as she strutted away, making sure to sway her hips a bit as she returned to where her father was still talking to the mind reader. Smiling innocently at her father, Rora decided she would play with his companion a bit, and as she stood quietly listening to their conversation, the girl thought of a series extremely detailed, explicit scenarios involving the things she would do to this white banged special. But based on her pleasant expression, one might have assumed she was thinking of nothing but hearts and flowers.

"Oh god," Kassie said following with gagging noises as she thought about the old film. Even after Electra had made Kassie watch the film like four times, she didn't understand her fascination with that series. She wanted to throw another snowball at her, but decided against it as she didn't want to have to clean up the water. Kassie gave a sigh before looking at her watch on her arm. "So explain to me again, what we have to do tonight?" Although Kassie had previously done the work of a controller, she couldn't remember the procedures that went behind it. Considering, she really didn't want to throw the city into an early winter and face the consequences. Crossing one leg over the other, Electra launched into her explanation of the process. “So, as you know, I can create storms. Of course, within that there isn’t much variety, as I’m limited to primarily rain and thunderstorms. But, because of the severe heat lately, they want you to cool the air and the clouds, so the overall temperature will drop.” But it would be a delicate process, as if Kassie cooled the air too much, it would turn Electra’s storm into an ice or snow storm, which would be the extreme opposite of what they needed right now.

Raven Dance ~ * ~ * ~ "That sounds fascinating," Raven told him, smiling as she pictured the world he painted. "It's definitely something I would read." Raven loved almost all genres, but paranormal and fantasy based novels were her favourites. "And, no, not really." She smiled shyly and looked down. "I would like to, but I never know how to start, and finding the time is difficult.""Thank you," Rylan said grateful to hear her kind words. He also hoped that the story would become a novel series, but first he had to hash out the first one. His own struggle was finding the motivation to write the story. He loved the direction it was going, but finding the motivation to write was difficult. Rylan felt sad for Raven as she said that he didn't really write for a reason that blocked him in the beginning too. "Finding where to start is always a big challenge, but I think the best way to overcome it is, not to start at the beginning. Find an area of the story where you believe you can write. So say your characters are on a quest and they run into problems. This could be in the middle of your story, but who cares what order you write the story in," Rylan said with a big smile on his face.

Hmm... How about the power of persuasion/compulsion?
Shade Comet ~ * ~ * ~ Shade smiled. "And I you, sir." He couldn't help overhearing the mayor's thoughts on the matter, and he looked away so it wasn't obvious. Shade had an excellent poker face, but he wasn't one to take chances.
His gaze found Rora as she returned. He hid a smile, then turned to face the older man again when he inquired after his name. "Shade," he replied. "Shade Comet. I -" He paused, body tensing slightly in surprise when Rora's thoughts suddenly made themselves known, and he barely resisted the urge to look at her. She was practically projecting them to him, and it wasn't hard to see why. She was trying to mess with him, and it was almost working. "- was a classmate of Echo's," he continued smoothly, his pause hardly noticeable, unless you were paying attention. "That's why I'm here today supporting him." And as he spoke, he sent his own vivid images to Rora, showing her exactly what he would do to her if she tried any of the explicit things she showed him.

Rora noticed the slight change in Shade's body language, and she couldn't help the smug smile that appeared on her lips as she found what was, in her mind, success. What she was not prepared for, however, was what he sent her in return, which sent shivers through her body. Well, then. Make it happen. She thought back, before touching her father on the shoulder and smiling sweetly at him. "Daddy, I'm going to go back to the house and freshen up. I'll see you at dinner," She told him, giving Shade one last glance before walking away. The mayor watched his daughter go before turning to answer Shade. "That was my daughter, Aurora. She's my precious little rose," he said proudly, glad he had raised such a classy and pure young woman, despite his own moral failings. "But anyways, I look forward to our companionship. You are welcome in our home, though I will admit that my friendship comes at a price," he added with a wink. Echo would protect the mayor and his family, and, Shade, if he played his cards right, would help make him even richer than he already was. Both were mutually beneficial relationships that the mayor looked forward to starting. "Well then, I must get going. But I will see you at dinner."

Kassie nodded, listening to Electra's explanation of the situation as well as the instructions. Her head started to spin a little as she worried if she wasn't able to get the exact temperature that the government wanted. Another worry of her was with the cool off and temperature change, how many people were going to be sick from it going from 90 degrees to mid 70s in a few hours? Kassie shuddered at the thought, but she gave a sigh knowing that she shouldn't have to worry about it. The government will have to deal with it then. "Okay fine, but I can't make a small little flurry?" Kassie asked with a small smile as she held her hand up and pinched her fingers close together.

(Yeah I was also thinking persuasion too!)
__________________________ Rylan nodded, glad to be of assistance. Even if it wasn't in terms of selling something to Raven for the bookshop. After a moment, he realized that he never introduced himself nor got her name either. "Oh! I almost forgot, I'm Rylan," he said. "What's your name?" Thankfully, he didn't wear a name tag or he would have been embarrassed for stating his name while Raven could have just read.

Shade Comet ~ * ~ * ~ Shade didn't respond to Rora's challenge, but he met and held her gaze in the second before she turned away and left. He didn't let his gaze linger on her as she walked away, and instead forced himself to focus on the mayor. He smiled wryly. "Everything comes at a price, sir. You'll find Echo and I are very good at paying it." He dipped his chin in farewell. "And I you," he said quietly.
When the mayor too was gone, Shade checked in with Echo. What are you up to?
Oh, the usual, came his friend's reply. Am I needed? Cause I think this healer wants to take me home.
Shade chuckled and shook his head as it tipped forward so he was staring at the ground. Go for it. Just don't be late to dinner.
Man, why does everyone want me to be on time today? I say again, I make no promises, but I'll do what I can. Later.
Shade severed their connection. His head lifted, and his gaze drifted almost unconsciously to the spot Rora had disappeared. He kept hearing her challenge ring through his head: Make it happen. It shouldn't have surprised him as much as it did; many of the women Echo took to bed were full of spunk and fire. He knew Rora expected him to trail her to the house, and while part of him was tempted... he didn't.
Let's see what the precious little rose does with rejection.

The rebel in her wanted to say yes, but she also knew that temperatures low enough to create a flurry would not be approved by the head controller. "Sorry Kas, but no. Leave the flurries for the shop." Glancing down at her watch, Electra stood straight and let out a curse under her breath. "Shit. I'm gonna be late. I have a doctors appointment across town in fifteen minutes, so I gotta run. See you tonight though!" She said with a smile, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder before ducking around the counter and running out of the ice cream shop.

Before entering the house, Rora glanced behind her to see if the mind reader had followed, and when she saw he was no where to be found, she couldn't help but be a little disappointed. But, that disappointed quickly dissipated as she went inside and up to her room to begin getting ready for the night ahead of her. It would be an interesting dinner, no doubt. But she couldn't help but think she would have to keep her mind busy with meaningless things so Shade wouldn't be able to find the important things. The very idea of having to constantly protect her most intimate thoughts exhausted her, but she supposed that was her life now. Kicking off her heels, Rora collapsed into her bed, intent on just laying there a moment before freshening up. But as soon as she her head hit the pillow, she fell into a deep sleep, and didn't wake up until her mother came in announcing that there were only ten minutes until the dinner was to begin, which was not something Rora liked to hear.

Rylan shook her hand with a smile, admiring her name. He glanced up and down and confirmed in his head that she definitely felt like the name was right. One of Rylan's quirks or mannerisms was he almost always judged people's names to see if they fit their person. Although he's never outright said someone's name should be something else, he has had a chance to say that 'I would have thought your name was Clarissa or Stephen.' For a moment, Rylan pondered her question as he was also taking into account the genres she had mentioned earlier. Paranormal and fantasy sometimes went hand and hand, but sometimes they didn't. "Have you ever heard of the Nightshade series?" Rylan asked. "It's sort of similar to my shapeshifter story, but the main characters are teenage wolf shapeshifters who are combining the young adults of rival packs into one to serve unworldly beings. Fantastic series, especially when it involves a good amount of action, but also some romance in there as well."

Shade Comet ~ * ~ * ~ As was his norm when attending events, parties, or social functions with his best friend, Shade left way early so he could track said friend down and kick his ass out the door. Shade didn't do this for everything, just the things where Echo's timely presence was more important than his own. Shade wasn't stupid; he knew he wouldn't be going to this dinner at all if he wasn't friends with Echo, and if he didn't have the power he did. But Shade was a man of his word, and since he'd agreed to go (and basically to help the mayor cheat at poker whenever the older man saw fit), Shade located Echo and knocked on the front door of a very nice condo apartment.
A pretty young woman opened the door in a shirt that was clearly not hers. Her eyes widened when she saw him, and she tried to pull the hem of the shirt lower. "Oh my gosh. You're not Jimmy. I, uh, I'm sorry. I -"
Jimmy, Shade discovered, was her usual pizza delivery guy; he resisted the urge to dig deeper and figure out why she was on a first name basis with the man, and why she was okay answering the door for him in nothing but a man's shirt but not Shade. Instead, he cut her off with a smile. "It's alright. I'm here for Echo."
Her eyes widened further. "Oh God. Are you..." She glanced over her shoulder, then looked up at Shade. "Are you his boyfriend?" she asked in a whisper.
Shade pressed his lips together to keep from laughing. "I prefer the term 'manfriend,'" he answered simply. He had to resist the urge to laugh again when her eyes went even wider. "Now, is he still here?"
"I - Yes. I'll... send him right out. Wait here." She put both her hands up in a stay/stop gesture, then turned around and darted further into the house. Shade finally let out a chuckle and put his hands in his pockets to wait.
A few minutes later, Echo came strolling out of the house, adjusting the cufflinks on his jacket. He grinned when he saw Shade. "Well hello, my lovely manfriend," he said. Shade was not surprised that Echo had heard his every word. His friend tried to deny his inner beasts, but it was present in every moment of his life; he just refused to see it. "I take it you've come to ferry me home?"
Shade shook his head. "The mayor's dinner, actually. Or had you forgotten?"
Echo lightly knocked the heel of his hand against his forehead. "Heck, I did," he said with dramatic flair. "I was oh so hoping you would too." He shook his head with a tsk. "You and your steel trap of a mind."
"Mm-hm. Are you ready?"
"Yep." Echo turned to face his pretty healer, who was wearing her own clothes now that Echo had reclaimed his shirt. He shot her a wink. "It's been a blast," he told her. Shade blocked her thoughts before he could accidently learn why that statement made her blush so much. "Adios, little healer."
And with that, Shade dragged Echo away and shut the door behind them.

Kassie gave off a pouting face, but shook her head with a smile after a moment. She was tempted to throw a small little flurry into the mix, but decided against once she knew that officials would immediately confirm it was her doing. Kassie laughed as she watched Electra glance at her watch, then the shock of her lateness. "I swear I'm gluing a clock to your eyes because you're almost late for everything!" she yelled after her. She waved goodbye to Electra before leaning over and checking the temperature gauge inside of her freezer on the back wall. She couldn't always keep everything cold, she had backups in case she was under the weather or something.

Leaping out of bed, Rora combed her fingers through her hair, and attempted to do something with it. But, to her dismay, her previously tamed curls seemed intent on disobeying, so she just let them fall down her back whichever way they saw fit. Hurrying to her closet, Rora grabbed a simple black dress that was appropriate for such a dinner, and quickly stripped herself of her white dress and slid on the darker one instead. She then put on a pair of black strappy heels, glancing at herself with a slight frown as she passed the mirror on her way out. She looked much less polished than she normally was in front of her parents. But given the time crunch, she didn't have time to fix her image, so it would have to do.

The mayor's butler answered the door, and ushered the two inside, where the rest of the guests were already seated. Standing as they entered, the mayor grinned and spread his arms open wide. "Echo! Shade! Welcome! Please, please, take a seat. We are having a lamb roast with garlic potatoes, salad, and anything else you desire. Just say the word, and it will be brought to you. Now tell me, can they get you anything? Anything at all?"
Rora rolled her eyes at her father's gushing over these two specials. Yes, her father loved her, but he had never gushed over her like that. No, her father's love for Specials who could help him much outweighed his love for her. And she couldn't help the sharp pang of jealousy that stabbed at her heart as she watched him greet the pair.

"Oh..." Rylan said, his eyesbrow raised as she was impressed at her knowledge of the series. He smiled and nodded understanding her opinion of the series. "I would agree to an extent, I had a feeling Calla would end up with Shay, but not that way," he stated. He tried to think of a different series, one that Raven maybe hadn't read. "How about the two book series known as Warcross?" He asked with a smile. This was likely one of Rylan's favorite novels as it dealt with a virtual reality gaming competition.

"Yes absolutely cannot wait!" Rylan exclaimed, a wide smile gracing his face. He was glad to see another person loved that series as well. "Do you know that there are also graphic novels of the Legend series?" he asked. He had glanced at the graphic novels, but never got a chance to actually go through the yet. Marie Lu had been one of his favorite authors especially because of the Warcross series, but he also liked Legend as well.

(ok!)
That night, Electra arrived early to the control center, which was located on the top floor of the highest building in the city. In fact, this job was the only thing she ever arrived early for, as it was one of the few things in life she genuinely enjoyed enough to break her habitual late streak. She was busy talking to her boss when she Kassie finally arrived. Smiling at her friend, Electra waved her over. "Hey Kass! I was just going through the details of the job. Come join."

Rora sat tall in her seat as she studied the two as they sat down across from her. Her gaze landed first on Echo, who's cocky confidence seemed to fill the room, and keep her father's attention. But when she heard Shade speak, she put her eyes on him, before remembering that he could hear her every thought--including her insecure ones, and she immediately looked away, filling her mind with random things she could care less about, as she waited for the first course of food to arrive.
"So tell me, Echo. Where are you from? And you too, Shade, if you don't mind my asking." The mayor's voice made it seem like he was politely asking, but he injected his power into the question, intent on getting answers regardless of how they felt about answering.

Kassie inched her way forward, thankful that they were in the center of the room. She peered out the windows from afar and felt her heart-rate kick into overdrive. Quickly, she took in a large gasp, clenching her fists to the side before turning away from the windows and looking at Electra. "Do I have to remind you the other reason I hate when they ask me to this?" she asked, taking a few slow breaths to try and calm her nerves. After a few moments, Kassie finally pushed herself over to Electra, but made sure her back was to the nearest side of windows and she focused completely on Electra.

Electra chuckled at Kassie's reaction, and rubbed her friend's back to comfort her. "Kass, there is literally no way you could die from up here. You are fine," She reassured her. Unlike Kassie, Electra had never been bothered by heights, so she couldn't really relate to her friend's fear of being up here. But when they went outside on the roof later to create the storm, that would be a whole different story. "Do you want to explain the plan to her?" She asked, glancing at their boss, who'd an amused look on his face since he had watched Kassie inch towards them.
