| Rainwatcher & Foamlily | Rainwatcher emerged from the warrior's den with a yawn, stretching his long limbs with every step he took. It was odd for the tom to sleep in for so long as he was fond of morning patrols or hunts with his fellow clan mates, but what could he do? He would make up for it tomorrow. Rainwatcher surveyed the camp for any signs of activity and was meet with the usual sight of apprentices and mentors leaving for training along with clan mates sharing tongues, but the familiar squeaks of protest is what really caught the tom's attention. A smile graced the usually stoic tom as he watched the Queen send her kits off to the elder's den. "You've got quite the stubborn kit there, Foamlily." He meowed in a sort of greeting to the Queen.

Halftooth purred when he heard kits approaching. Vistitors were rare to the elder's den. Sure, there was an occasional random apprentice sent to get rid of his ticks and to drop off prey, but that really didn't count. The apprentice usually ran away the minute they were dismissed. Kits were always a treat because most of them did not try to run away. The only problem was when they got too excited and tore the den. Not like he wasn't use to a little breeze, the tom just knew his denmates got angry. "Hello, little warriors." He greeted in his usual booming voice. He lifted himself off of the nest and sat up straight. "Who has visited me today?" He squinted as if he couldn't see the kits clearly.

jayswing Want to rp Batflight and Sealpaw? )
Stormstar frowned. It was mid-Greenleaf. The kits and queens should be fat on fish and shellfish. It didn't help both of the queens were naturally small. Thankfully, the oldest set of kittens should be able to start eating freshkill. She would have to make a request to the queens later to make sure to pick the shellfish from the pile for themselves and their kits. That would fatten them up in no time. She didn't say any of this to Shalespots. It wasn't a medicine cat's job to fetch prey. Not like he could really do much of a job of it. It was good he decided to go become a medicine cat. She always had a suspicion the tom was not meant for the warrior life.
"Are any of the kits showing promise in the medicine cat path?" The leader asked. The leader had meant to visit the kits again to introduce herself. She knew the kits probably knew who she was, but it was nice to formally establish these things. More importantly, she wanted to spend some time to get to know the kits, or just speak with the queen. She would need think about assigning mentors soon and she wouldn't do that blindly. Blindly like how she was suppose to choose a deputy. This one would most likely succeed her. The clan wasn't ready for her to leave yet, not for many moons. Shalespots agreed that the kits shouldn't be that small and honestly he was just hoping that they were small statured or being picky and not wanting to wean or something of that sort. He wasn't fully sure, though, and had already thought of trying to get some shellfish for the queens himself. He was thinking that he could try his paw in hunting again, even if it wasn't exactly his job, just so the warriors didn't have to worry specifically about finding more fatty foods for the queens. He didn't know that Stormstar was glad that he'd decided to become a medicine cat or that she'd had her suspicions that he wasn't meant to be a warrior. Honestly the skittish tom would have ben horrified.
He tipped his head to one side at the question before shrugging slowly. "Perhaps Bubblekit. She has the curiosity for it, but she's young, she may still want to become a warrior. But from what i've seen she'd have the good instincts for a medicine cat," He said hesitantly, sounding rather unsure of himself, before shaking his head. "I'd doubt she'd have much interest, though. All kits and apprentices want to be is you, Stormsstar. I"ll be lucky to find a good, young, cat who wants to learn about healing," He responded with a slow chuckle as he paused and scented the air, enjoying the sharp tang of the ocean, wondering if he'd be lucky and find some shellfish while grabbing more seaweed.

Stormstar mentally noted she would have to observe Bubblekit and speak with the queen later. From her experience, either the queen was happy to put their kit in the safe medicine cat den, or they were offended at the offer. The medicine cat might be respected, but they weren't a warrior. They didn't have the chance to hunt and fight. There was a high chance of becoming isolated or plagued by dreams every time they slept. Most mothers did not want such a fate for their kits. If only they knew the fate of the leader. She huffed. Every kit waned to be a leader. They wanted to be a powerful warrior, respected by the clan. The leader had to separate herself from the clan to make decisions and to remain respected. She tried to make herself this, but it wasn't fun.
The she-cat stopped. She let the water lap at her paws. A heavy weight lifted off her chest. If she was alone, she might have smiled. "I'll wait and you can pass the seaweed to me." She said, slowly stepping deeper into the water. She did know how to collect seaweed, but she didn't want to tread on the medicine cat's toes. The tom needed to gain more confidence for his rank, especially if he was to train a young cat.

Now that his mother was gone Turtlekit was the first to speak up when asked his name. Halftooth was one of his favorite cats. He loved hearing stories about big battles he was in or ones with dangerous animals it was thrilling. "It's me Turtlekit!" He said bouncing over to the elder till he was less than a tail length away. Shellkit ran over, tumbling over his brother as he tried to come to a stop. The young cat still wasn't fully grown into his legs and paws yet. Remaining flopped over on his back he swatted his paw at his brother "And Shellkit!" He said, the normally quiet kit had opened up to Halftooth after about a moon of visiting regularly now he was a whole new kit. Bubblekit trotted after her brother who were now wresting with each other. She moved to the side of them and looked up at the elder tom happily her bright amber eyes sparking with interest. Even though the stories the tom told weren't her exact taste it was still interesting to hear about battle and such. She really loved hearing about what was outside and beyond the clan. The stories of their Ancestors and other such things were the ones that did to her what the battle stories did to her brother. To think that past cats in the clan would come to help them through dreams was just fascinating. "Bubblekit here!" The she-kit spoke up of the sound of he brothers. (It's all good no worries!)

"What an honor to have such three great warriors to visit me." He rumbled. His words were truthful. These three had to be one of his favorite litters. Of course, he said that about every litter, but there was no rule about every litter being his favorite. He watched the brothers for a second before looking to Bubblekit. This one was strange. Most kits demanded stories about fights with the largest creature imaginable. It wasn't good unless there was some thrilling heroics splashed in. The she-kit didn't seem too interested in these thing. Which made his stories a little harder to concoct, but the elder liked the challenge. He was happy to please. "Bubblekit, I think it is your time to choose what today's story should be about." He said. He didn't actually know whos turn it was, but the she-kit wasn't one of the kits rolling in the dirt. It would be easier to speak with her.

(The kits are so precious omg)
Shalespots knew how offensive the thought of becoming a medicine cat could be to mothers. He vaguely remembered that one of the Queens had suggested to his mother that he should be a medicine cat one day, especially with his anxious personality, and she nearly chased the other she cat out of the nursery. It was another reason he'd been so scared to actually switch over because he hadn't wanted to disappoint his mother. He was her only surviving kit, after all, and had expected so much out of him. He hadn't known what to do for the longest time. So the thought of suggesting it to Bubblekits mother was a little overwhelming and he didn't know how the she cat would react to it.
The young tom paused next to his former mentor, a purr rising in his chest as the water touched his paws, loving the feeling of it. His body seemed to relax already and he looked over at the offer of him grabbing the seaweed and passing it onto her. There was a glint in his eye, because he was still planning on getting more than that, because he still wanted to make Stormstar proud even if it had been moons since he'd been her apprentice. "Got it," He mewed before eagerly darting into the water. He did hesitate for a few moments, feeling the tug on his paws, before looking back at the older she cat and diving in after taking a good and deep breath. He always hated this part, because he was often pushed around by the waves, but soon he found his way around and felt the familiar brushing against his paws of the seaweed. Opening his jaws he grasped onto the seaweed and used his paws to tug it out. After a few moments he was back up and paddling back to the shore, struggling a little even with this, the waves hitting his head as he finally scrambled onto the beech. "Spirits I hate the waves!" He exclaimed in aggravation, shaking out his fur, knowing it was a strange feeling coming from a clan cat born and raised with an ocean but he honestly did. He just was never strong enough to get himself above the waves for very long.

Stormstar watched the medicine cat dive into the water. She always worried about the tom when he entered the water. He was always weaker than the rest of the clan for some reason. No matter how much fish and gull she pushed in his direction, he could never build up muscle needed to dive and catch. He still managed, but she knew it was a struggle. She knew she would be tense until they set paw on dry land. Ancestors guide him, she silently asked the waves as she swam out.
She was surprised when she heard the tom's voice back at the shore. The leader hadn't realized how far she had swum. She angled herself correctly to see the young tom now at shore. He was breathing. She noted this first as she started to swim back to the shore. Breathing and cursing the waves, but it was better than not breathing. She was hesitant to climb back on to the sand just because she knew he legs would start to pain her again. But's she wanted to check to make sure the tom was actually okay.
The scent of blood wasn't on the tom and he appeared to be standing. Stormstar shook her head. "I was going to take the seaweed from you in the sea. You wouldn't have needed to swim back." She explained. She shook out her fur. "Do you want to dry out the seaweed or keep it wet?" She asked.

BatflgihtBatflight let out a soft sigh, he supposed the apprentice was still young and had much to learn. He didn’t want his apprentice to be afraid or resent him, so he forced himself to hold back any sign of annoyance beyond his sigh. “Those are…good things to keep in mind but they are not the only things you need to know when hunting. Don’t forget there will come a time when you cannot depend upon me for answers, you need to start remembering this stuff.” He meowed, hoping that his words didn’t sound mean. He twitched his tail and then he meowed once more, “Seagulls are not very smart birds but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be smart about hunting them. You need to wait until they land on the beach, be careful that they don’t see you as you don’t have much to cover you and start to stalk them, and when the time is right, you pounce. Remember that seagulls can fly, so you’ll want to jump quickly,” Walking beside the young apprentice he meowed, “Show me your best hunter’s crouch.” ( zero I'm sorry I passed out last night, and was really busy today so I wasn't able to respond until now! ) (Also my queen and kits are free, does anyone have any cats open who could rp with them?)

(Sorryabout the poof! I had to do some cleaning !) (I can't wait to build their characters more they are all new babies lol) Bubblekit lit up at her chance to choose the story. Her brothers were very clearly distracted with proving who was going to come on the best warrior. This was her chance to get a really good story out of the elder. Even if it was Shellkits turn this time. She wasn't going to say anything she always got interrupted by those two anyway. "Can we have a story about the cats with waves in their pelts?" She asked excitement shining in her eyes. "Have you met them?!" She asked her eyes growing wide with interest. Shellkit the taller of the two toms pinned his brother down shortly after Bubblekit answered the elders question. Though his brother was bulkier then he was the long limbed tom had more strength in his legs. "I'm the winner!!" He yowled in triumph as Turtlekit struggled to get out from under his brothers large paws. Squirming under his brother Turtlekit managed to throw his awkwardly long legged brother off balance sending the other tom tumbling over. The two both jumped up rear ends in the air ready to pounce again. "Come on you Fishbrains! Halftooth is going to start his story!" Bubblekit said turning and facing her brothers for a moment before whipping her head back to the elder. Both of the similarily color d kits ran over and jumped on their sister who simply ducked down sendin Turtlekit flying over her and Shellkit tumbling to land beside her on paw on her back staring up at Halftooth. Turtlekit trotted back over wiggling his way under his sisters left leg.

The young medicine cat was still drying off as Stormstar swam back to him, tail lashing in aggravation, because why were the waves so hard for him to handle? He'd never been physically able to swim out firmly nor get enough muscle so he wouldn't be bullied by the waves. In fact, whenever he worked to gain more muscle, with the gulls and fish shoved his way and the various exercises his legs seemed to get weaker.
It was like the spirits were doing just about everything to prevent him from being a normal warrior. Force him to be a medicine cat. He was still shaking out his fur when he twitched his ear simply when she pointed out she would have grabbed the seaweed from him and he shrugged with a rather sheepish look to him. "I forgot," He admitted before starting to wade back into the water. "Plus, I can handle the waves now," Sort of. Perhaps Stormstar did have a right to be worried because as an apprentice he had way too many close calls with these dangerous waves. He'd nearly drowned more times than he liked to admit and even now he wasn't the most confident swimmer.
"I would like to keep it wet. It's easier to wrap that way," He instructed as the smaller tom let out an alarmed squeak when a wave hit him. He managed to keep himself above the water and he stood there, still for a moments, fur stuck to his body as he breathed in slowly and steadied himself. He could do this.

Sealpaw nodded, trying to look serious. He didn't quite understand what Batflight was so worried about. He still had many moons before he would be a warrior. Plus, land prey only made up a small part of the clan's pile. They were extras, that is how he had heard Ottersplash describe the prey. At least, most of the information seemed obvious. He was glad to find out his answers, though sounding made-up, were almost correct. He guessed his mentor could tell he was came up with the answers. He nodded again when Batflight was finished. Everything seemed pretty simple.
The tom crouched. It was an odd pose, both feeling natural and straining. It wasn't like fishing, which almost came naturally to every cat. Crouching was painful and he could feel himself sinking slightly into the sand. When he sifted his paws to get a better grip, he only fell deeper. His claws became unsheathed as he felt himself before even more unsteadied.
---
Halftooth hummed to give him some time. Not like the kits were actually listening. He was not a born clan cat, so naturally, he hadn't heard of the first cats. It took him a while to even understand the concept of these cats. He wasn't sure if he could ever believe that cats came from waves, but the clan cats seemed very insistent on the fact. Halftooth wasn't going to tell them differently, especially the little kittens.
"I have not, little warrior." He said, shaking his head. He then started to lay down. "The first ancestors are the only cats with waves in their pelts. All cats with patterns on their pelt are said to be decedents. I've heard from the other elders it is very rare to see one of the first ancestors. They mostly travel with the creatures who pass every year. Even if they choose to stay in the cove, they do not show their face to many. So, I can only tell you what I've heard from other cats." Once settled, he waited a second to make sure the kits wouldn't miss the story. Then, he spoke in his rumbling voice which filled the den.
"A cat lost in a storm. She had been diving when the clouds broke. Thunder rumbled from above and the rain fell heavy as stone. When she surfaced, nothing could be seen. The she-cat no longer knew where the shore or her clanmates were. She tried to fight against the current, but her legs ached with the effort. She could feel the water cling to her fur as if trying to drag her under. All it took was a large wave and she was sinking. Her body grew colder and colder as she sunk into the dark abyss. She could feel herself starting to fade." He paused to make sure the kits weren't too scared. He didn't want to get a cold stare from any of the queens. She coughed, as if he had stopped to do that, before continuing his tail. "Then, she felt warm again. Her haze disappeared. In front of her was a grey cat, swimming calmly through the warring water. The black marks on their pelt ebbed and flowed like the cove on a calm day. The markings never left their pelt, yet were constantly changing. The she-cat could feel the water slowly push her to follow the cat. They swam through the water as easily as the fish did. The grey cat looked back with a smile, then surged forward. The she-cat felt herself swept up and land on something soft. the clan found the clan cat on the shore the very next day." The elder ended his story with a pleased smile. It was one of his true stories and he hoped he had done it justice.
--- (Hmm, do you want something to happen? idk what but it seems like a prime opportunity to have a message from the ancestors. ) Stormstar's tail twitched. "You can't handle the waves. No warrior could handled the waves enough to be going back and forth." She told the tom. She tried to salvage the tom's pride by giving him the last comment as something he could cling to. She just didn't want the young cat to lie to himself. As important as it was for the young medicine cat to believe in himself, he also had to know his limited. The clan could not afford to loose the only cat which knew about medicine. "I'll be these in a second." He told the tom before turning to the seaweed.
The aquatic plant would dry out if left on the beach. Since Shalespots wanted the plant to be pliant, it need to sit in water. Running back to camp would be too tiring for any cat. So, the leader dug a small hole near the water. It was close enough for the water to fall in, but far and deep enough for the seaweed not to float away. It was a common technique for hunters in the summer when the sun would dry out their prey. She let herself feel a bit of pride before she ran into the water again.
She swam out to were she thought the tom would surface and waited. Her ears twitched at every little sound as she search for something large coming to surface. Her eyes weren't going to be much help in spotting the light colored tom in the waves. Even if they were gentle, everything was fuzzy to the leader. She was worried she wouldn't be able to pick out the details of the sea anymore.

The elder didn't know how to answer the rabid firing of questions. He wasn't a medicine cat or somecat born in the clan. He had just told them all he knew. He would still try to think of something. After all, he couldn't disappoint the kits for the life of him. "The she-cat almost drowned but thanks to the wave cat, she was saved." he clarified. He would try to add less details next time. Maybe it was a bit too much for the kits yet. "They know about everything that happens in the water. I don't think there were sharks in the cove this time." He finished answering all the questions he could. Of course, the she-kit had more. He couldn't even pretend to know the answer to the long string of questions asked. "That is something you would have to ask Shalespots. He would probably know more about your ancestors than me." he said, his whiskers twitching in amusement.

Batflight Batflight watched his apprentice nod his head at every word, and forced himself to suppress another irritated sigh. It was clear that the apprentice wasn’t really listening to his words…again. He could understand that the tom would rather hunt in the water then on land, but land prey was just as important for the clan. Cats should be grateful for their food, no matter where it comes from. Maybe he should have a talk with Stormstar to see what he could do to make the apprentices understand the importance for all prey. For now, he had other matters to focus on…like his apprentices atrocious hunting crouch. “Sealpaw you can’t crouch like that on sand like you would on dirt when you’re in the woods…” and meowing a bit quieter he added, “…not that you’d ever go there…” Pausing to help Sealpaw get his paws into the right place, he added louder this time, “You need to keep your legs a little more spread out, to keep your weight from being all in one place, otherwise you sink because you’re too heavy to keep yourself up,” He watched the apprentice to carefully to see if he was taking in his words before adding, “Perhaps you’d be more enthusiastic if we turned this into a game?”

(Sure, what kind of message? Should they receive the same one at the same time?)
Shalespots let out a low grumble when he was told that he couldn't continue to go back and forth. He opened his mouth, ready to argue, before she continued on and pointed out that even the strongest warriors couldn't handle running back and forth in the waves. At that he closed his mouth, eyeing her for a few moments, before letting out an irritated huff because he knew she was right. His small amount of pride refused to let him accept this, though, as he continued to paddle back out into the waves. f
Once he felt the seaweed tangle up against his paws again he dove down as fast as he could and started to pull at the slimy plant. He had to surpress a shudder as he struggled with this one, feeling like it was wrapping around his legs so that he couldn't escape, fear piling up in him as he started to dig out the green weed. He was ashamed to admit that he was feeling a little bit of panic until it finally released and he was able to make it up to the surface.
He resurfaced with a gasp as he tried his best to keep the seaweed in his mouth, letting out a muffled mewl, feeling tired already as the waves hit his weak form. He hated how quickly he tired and how he was already reaching his limit, finding it almost embarrassing, because he knew even kits could probably last longer than he would. "O-over here!" The light tabby called out when he saw his mentor, letting out an alarmed noise as he was brought over again, before he tried to swim back to the surface again.

The apprentice sighed. He didn't understand why he kept getting things wrong. He hadn't hunted in the woods before, this pose just felt more natural. the new pose was a strain. He was no longer sinking into the sand, which was a win, but his paws felt like they were in the wrong place. He stalked a couple of steps, trying to maintain the same pose, but he knew his movements were boxy. They weren't smooth and easy like in the water. Sealpaw snighed, trying to keep his disappointment from showing. His ears flicked to his mentor when the tom spoke. It was like a switch had been flipped. Sealpaw, who had been struggling to pay attention, suddenly gave his mentor all of it. His head snapped to look at Batflight. The apprentice forgot about the pose and stood up. "What is it?" He asked with horribly hidden glee. --- ( sweetclover1 I'm thinking it is about when the red tide will happen. Perhaps they will see a full moon in the water and then have a vision of a red tide. )

Stormstar spun around when she heard a mew. The young tom had been under more than she would have liked and she had started to get worried. Worried she might have not heard the tom's call and he was loosing a fight to the waves. The clan would not have a medicine cat because of the ancestor cursed eyes. She swam as quickly as her legs would take her towards the struggling tom.
She froze when something glowed in the distance. As if in a trace, she turned to look for the source. She squinted. There was a glowing circle in the middle of the water. It looks like the moon, Stormstar thought, still staring, but it can't. She looked to the bright sky, then to the 'moon'. Her eyes could be this bad. She had blurry vision, not hallucinations. She closed her eyes and shook her head. When she opened them, her eyes grew wide in fear. A red wave washed away the moon and was heading towards her and Shalespots. The ancestors couldn't be this cruel. If the wave caught both Stormstar and Shalespots, the clan would be left without leadership. Shoreclan would parish. Fear immobilized her for a second until instinct took over.
"Shalespots!" She yowled, hoping to alert the tom. There was no running away from the red wave, but they could brace themselves. The she-cat dove into the water. She could feel the wave catching up. The water was already pushing her forward. Using this to her advantage, she did not fight against the current. When she surfaced to find the medicine cat, she found the cove calm. There wasn't a moon or a wave. Everything was at peace. She wouldn't be calm until she found her medicine cat. "Shalespots!" She called, hoping the tom hadn't gone under.

Shalespots felt a small amount of relief when Stormstar started to paddle towards him but that stopped when the elderly leader froze and stared beyond him. At first he didn't understand why, wondering if he'd been missed, paddling as firmly as he could with the seaweed in his mouth. He turned a little to see act she was staring at and couldn't help the incredible amount of confusion that washed over him when he saw some kind of glowing circle in the middle of the ocean... Is that... Is that the moon? He stayed there until a wave hit him nd brought him under once more.
Letting out an alarmed noise he struggled back up and when he did he saw somethign that was literally a scene out of his nightmare. A red wave, a massive one, was making its way towards both he and Stormstar. He was frozen with fear as he stared at what could only be a wave made of blood tore towards them. He couldn't move, only thinking about how their clan would surely perish if both he and Stormstar died, unable to move until he heard a yowl of his name and he was spurred into action. He dove into the water like Stormstar had once taught him.
All over again the torrent took him under but his eyes were shut tight. He was expecting to feel the hot and sticky substance hat was blood, but instead it was the familiar cold saltwater, pushing him under. He was being rolled over and over again and he wanted to let out a yowl of fear but he couldn't and it felt like the air was being forced out of him as the wave continued. Once it stopped and the cove was calm he was somehow able to start paddling upwards even if he was losing breath fast.
(Reason #1 you should never let Shalespots be in the ocean for very long: The spirits apparently like to try and kill both him and Stormstar at the same time Reason 2: he actually can't swim to save his life)

Batflight For the first time that morning, Batflight let out a small purr; finally glad to have his apprentice’s attention on him. Batflight didn’t answer Sealpaw’s question right away, instead he looked around the sand until he found what he had been looking for. A stick, one that was large enough for both him and Sealpaw to notice, and firm enough that it wouldn’t blow over while they did what he had in mind. Moving back towards Sealpaw’s side he put the stick into the ground upright so they could both see from even far away. Finally he meowed, “We’re going to have a little competition. You only have to hunt one seagull and bring it back but if I make it here first with a seagull, you lose. If on the off chance that you win we can skip practicing hunting crabs and move onto every cat’s favorite hunting spot.” He broke off to point his tail towards the sea before continuing, “However… if I win you will practice that hunting crouch until I decide it’s perfect and then you will go straight towards the elders den to relieve poor Halftooth of his ticks? That seem fair?”

Stormstar would not heard or see the medicine cat come to surface. She would not curse at the ancestor's usually, but she might now. The she-cat waited a couple more seconds before diving again. Everything was burry under the water. She could barely distinguish the plant life from the water. Thankfully, she managed to pick out a shape struggling towards the surface. It's limbs were too long to be anything but a cat. She leader darted forward.
She bit on the tom's scruff without a thought. Her instinct told her to save the young cat with no regard for her safety or ability. Her first kicks did not move them, but soon she noticed the light was getting brighter as she continued. They were going to escape the water. It wasn't pleasant. The leader could feel her chest burning from the water slowly entering her mouth. Her kicks were starting to become weaker and less coordinated. A little push from the currents gave them what they needed to reach air. It couldn't have come a second sooner.
The leader let go of the tom's scruff and opened her mouth to speak to him. Only a cough came out. She coughed again and again, eat one sounding more and more harsh. The she-cat turned and swam towards shore. She was thankful the solid land didn't seem too far away. Even the weak medicine cat could make it. The elderly she-cat continued to cough as she walked up on shore. She turned herself away from the tom so he wouldn't what happened next.
Once recovered, she turned towards the tom. "What did you see?" She asked in a horse voice. She knew the medicine cat was competent with his herbs, but she did not know his connection with the ancestors. The vision might have only been given to her. She wasn't sure if she would be happy with this or not.

Sealpaw watch his mentor intently as Batflight retrieved a stick. His best guess was the tom needed to mark something in the sand. It seemed he was correct when his mentor stuck it into the sand. It seemed like this was going to be something like a race. Maybe he was suppose to stalk up to the stick and grab it. Stalking wouldn't be ideal, but it was something easy to understand and quick. He dropped into a crouch as he mentor returned. There was no doubt in his mind that he could 'catch' the stick.
When Batflight revealed the actual goal of the assignment, Sealpaw's hopes were all dashed. It was clear from both his mentor's words and tone that there was really no chance for the apprentice to catch a bird before the much older and more experienced warrior. Sealpaw would be stuck on the beach until night fall practicing his crouch and have to relieve the elders of their ticks until moon high. Halftooth wasn't a bad cat to be around, but he was going to be so sore for the rest of the afternoon. He would protest, but he had a feeling Batflight's question was more of a statement. Sealpaw nodded before dashing off.
While running away from stick was a bad idea, Sealpaw wanted to get as far away as possible. The competition, if anyone could call it that, was silly. Both him and his mentor knew there was no chance in him winning. Even trying seem sad and useless. So, he decided to chase the birds. It was kinda like what he had been instructed to do but fun. He lost all of his troubles this way. When he spotted a bird, he charged forward and growled. The bird noticed him just in time to flap away. He would leap for them, but they would be at least a mouse length out of his grasp.

Turtlekit nodded, how did they know everything though? He did not ask his question as Halftooth told his sister the medicine cat would be better suited to answer their questions. "Boy she got lucky huh? No sharks. Phew!" He mewed flopping down on the ground as if relieved by this news. Shellkit looked to his brother and shook his head vigioursly in agreement. It had been lucky the she-cat hadn't been where there were sharks, maybe there would have been a fight between the wave cats and the sharks. Now THAT would be awesome. Bubblekit stared at Halftooth her eyes filled with wonder. To think that there were cats out there that knew everything that happened in the water. "Shalespots? Do Medicine cats speak with them?" She tilted her head to the side slightly, he mother had briefly explained the ranks of the clan to her, though Lilyfoam had focused on the warriors since her brothers had been so interested in how it worked and how you became leader and such. Bubblekit had kept quiet but she had missed the part about medicine cats have a strong connection to the ancestors. "They must be really powerful cats, the ancestors." She mewed. Turtlekit as if on cue jumped up puffing out his chest and facing both his sister and brother. "I am an ancestor! A powerful all seeing water cat!" He yowled leaping toward his siblings. Bubblekit darted off avoiding her brother while Shellkit got the blow sending the long legged tom over. "No you aren't! You barely remember things Mama tells you!" Shellkit said as the two started tumbling about. Bubblekit sighed shaking her head. "Brothers." (Sorry for taking so long I got pretty busy with stuff over the weekend)

It's fine ^^ Not worry about the replies too much. Life comes first. )
Halftooth smiled at the tussling kits. Those two had more energy than two squirrels. Which was pretty normal for kits he supposed. Bubblekit just seemed to have none of the playfulness her brothers' carried. He was almost a little worried about the young kitten. Most kits, male or female, were always running around and rough housing. Then again, it might be for the better. The she-kit wouldn't get into trouble this way.
"Well, anyone can speak with the ancestors. I've heard all they have to do is go to the beach. Though your leader and medicine cat seem to have a special connection with them." He told the she-cat as he settled down in the nest. His limbs immediately felt better and he sighed. "Your medicine cat seems talented with those leaves he uses." He said, wishing he had some to sooth his aching legs.

Batflight Batflight sat by the stick, watching his apprentice dart off after the seagulls, all of them out of his reach. You are a fast young cat but not that fast, mouse-brain! He couldn't help but think to himself. He had no intention of catching a seagull before Sealpaw but he had to admit that his apprentice was tempting him to do so. Batflight was secretly hoping that if Sealpaw believed he caught a seagull before him that the apprentice might have more confidence on land. Though now as he watched Sealpaw "hunting" he was starting to doubt himself. Maybe he should call the apprentice back and let him know what he was trying to do? But then the apprentice might not appreciate knowing that Batflight was purposely going to lose. Either way he suddenly realized he should probably leave the sticks side before Sealpaw turned to notice that Batflight had never left the stick. Quickly and quietly he began to move closer to Sealpaw and letting out a loud meow for Sealpaw to hear him, "Sealpaw, this competition is to practice you're stalking! Do so!" Or we'll hunt in the water and then I'll send you to do Halftooth's ticks anyway! He added silently to himself.

"You will have to ask the medicine cat about that." He purred. He could feel his stomach growling. This was a good way to get the toms out of the den. He didn't want to end up with another hole. It was cold enough with the se wind blowing into camp.
The tom stood up. "Shall we make sure the camp is safe, little warriors? There might be a badger or fox in camp. We have to protect all of your clanmates." He meowed seriously and dramatically.
---
Sealpaw felt a tiny bit of shame when he was caught. The young tom crouched down in a very sloppy form. Now that he had run around, he didn't want to be confined to such a restrictive pose and such a boring task. At least in the water, he could kick and move as quickly as he wanted. There wasn't any waiting. Now, he had to wait and wait in the hot sand for land prey. He could have caught a couple fish in this time. Ottersplash was right about land prey.
After many, many tries, he managed to land a lame seagull. The poor thing already had a hurt wing. It's take off took longer than the rest. The tom managed to land on its wings and snap its neck. Strangely, he felt pride blossom in his heart. He started to carry the bird bad slowly. He didn't want to seem too eager. Then, he sprinted forward. His heart soared when his mentor was not near the stick. He dropped the bird and frantically looked around for Batflight.
