Jordan really didn't get complimented often. At least, not in the way that Rhys complimented her. Sam would occasionally tell her that the dinner she made tasted good or mention something about Jordan being cooler than Eric. Riley was constantly complimenting her to keep her spirits up and Linda was often complimenting her about her work. But Rhys? He was complimenting her in the way that Eric should. He sounded like a younger guy flirting with a girl that he'd just met at a bar. He made her feel special. He made her feel like she was worth it - like she did deserve someone better than Eric. She smiled a bit at his words. "Well, you've got the cheesy compliments part down. I swear, I've never heard so many cheesy words come out of one guy's mouth," she teased, nudging him with a shoulder. "You're also not bad at doing people's nails. Maybe you should get a job at a spa or something." Again, more teasing. She doubted that that skill of his would ever leave this room and that sent another spark of importance through her chest. How many people truly knew that Rhys was good at painting nails? It was a funny thought - a guy like him painting nails - but it also made him seem more real. "And the pink nail polish definitely looks good on you. I'm not sure most guys could pull it off as well as you," she said. Jordan knew it was selfish, but she did want Rhys to stick around together. She'd never say that, letting him continue with his life of traveling if he wanted. She couldn't have the heart to stop him from meeting new people and seeing new things and visiting new places, but that didn't mean that it wouldn't hurt her when he left. She knew she could never have more than a friendship with him. There were just too many hoops to jump through and too many things to deal with. Plus, Jordan would be without anything if she left Eric and she couldn't expect Rhys to support her when it was possible that he could barely support himself. Sam too. Jordan couldn't leave her son with his father. Maybe Riley or Ezra could take him on if Jordan went on the run, but she knew there was no way that Eric could have him. Her first choice would be to take her son with her. If that wasn't a practical option, then she wanted him to be with someone that she knew could And would take care of him. "Well, that's a good skill to have," she commented. "Shaky hands make things a lot more difficult." She'd almost assumed that Rhys was an artist or something because of how carefully he'd held the brush. How precise and almost perfect his strokes seemed to be. But a handyman made sense too. With her fingers gently laying on his face, she could feel him lean his head into her hand, and she didn't want to remove it. In that moment, she almost leaned forward to kiss him. She'd never had someone respond to her touch like that, but she stopped herself at the last moment, blinking as if to clear her mind. She took a little longer with the drinks than necessary, waning to give herself some time to catch her breath and regain her thoughts. When she returned, she took another sip of her drink. She opened her mouth slightly as he spoke. "I don't have many girls nights either," she said. "Really only with my friend Riley. We just kinda hang out," she said, unsure of how exactly to describe what she and Riley did. It was different each time. Sometimes they went to a bar (though that was mostly for Riley - Jordan didn't drink), sometimes they talked about their problems (that was mostly for jordan), and sometimes they just chilled and watched cheesy romance movies with a bowl of popcorn between them. "That's good to hear. I'm sure that's what attracts all the girls," she teased, half curious about how often girls came and tried to flirt with Rhys. She was pretty certain he didn't have a wife or girlfriend at this point, but that didn't mean he didn't spend a lot of time flirting or drinking with girls. He looked like the type, to jordan at least. "Yeah, TV works," she said. She turned on the large TV in their living room, watching as whatever Sam had been watching earlier started. "Movie or series? Comedy? Drama? Scary? Romance? Action?" she asked. Jordan wasn't super picky so sh decided to let Rhys choose. "Hmm, well we could do hair," she said. "But I think makeup would be a little more fun," she said with an mischievous look in her eyes. Oh, she would have fun with doing his makeup, even if it meant putting up with whatever skills he had (or lacked) when t came to makeup. aether

The idea of working at a spa was probably the least exciting idea Rhys could think of. He shook his black curls slowly and chuckled at the suggestion. He much preferred doing work that involved more strenuous activities. Being a handyman meant he often had to problem solve, lift heavy objects, and move around a lot. For him, it released him from stress. It released endorphins and made him feel good and on a high. Being a handyman - have a good knowledge of everything and how to fix/build things, was a trade that never went out of business. Through all his years of living, it had supported him. Her next comment about his pretty pink nails made him smirk and he told himself he had to wash it off before he left in the morning. He simply couldn't have it on - despite the fact it seemed to compliment his stark looks - because it just wasn't something he usually liked. Doing it for fun with Jordan right now was fine, but every other time, he wasn't interested.
In response to her comment about him attracting all the ladies, he laughed again. This one did seem a tad more incredulous, though. "No, I'm not much of a hit at all... just a guy without a home," he ducked his eyes for a few moments. Honestly, he'd had a few people who weren't his soulmate be interested in him. He'd had quite a few flings with people who did peak his interest, even though he knew they weren't soulmates - and when the time came for him to leave, he would. Just like he did with everyone. Looking back up into Jordan's gentle brown eyes reminded him of the fact that eventually he'd have to leave her, too. "Let's watch a scary movie," he blurted out. He wasn't really a big fan of scary movies, but it seemed like a good option now. His eyebrow quirked at her next statement. "Make-up?" He tilted his head and a curl fell down his forehead, "Well, you're the boss. Although honestly, despite all my steady hands and handyman abilities, make-up is beyond me." His eyes were a little wide with what could almost be considered 'fear' at the thought of touching all the womanly powders and whatnot.
He took another - much needed - sip of his wine and shrugged his shoulders. "But hey, I guess we're just here to have fun, so I don't see why not," he placed his glass back on the coffee table and faced Jordan, shoulders straight and chin jutting. "I have faith you'll make me even more beautiful than you already have," his voice was laced with amusement.

Jordan smiled a bit and looked down at his nails. "Don't worry. I brought the nail polish remover down. You can clean it off tonight before bed or tomorrow morning if you want," she said, nodding towards the small plastic bottle she'd brought down. She hadn't actually expected Rhys to keep it on when he left. People would definitely judge him for walking around with pretty pink nails. But she was glad that he'd let her paint her nails. Jordan was enjoying herself much more than she had in a long time. Rhys was a nice guy and he was fun to be around. She was more than willing to open her house up again to him if he needed it, but she knew that wouldn't be an option when Eric came home. He wouldn't allow Rhys into their house and he wouldn't appreciate that Jordan had done that while he was gone. That reminded her to talk to Sam and tell him to make sure that he didn't mention Rhys around his father. Eric would not act nice if he heard what happened. "If you say so," Jordan said, though part of her didn't believe it. Rhys really was a good looking man, so she doubted that he didn't have anyone trying to come up and flirt with him. Now, she couldn't tell whether or not he flirted back or got into anything deeper with people he met at bars or wherever he liked to hang out, but she doubted that he didn't have others that wanted to be with him. "And you'll have a home soon," she promised, bumping him with her shoulder. "Id offer to help you find somewhere to live, but I don't exactly have much experience with that," she said with a laugh. Eric had picked out their house and they'd lived here since jordan was 18 and got married to him. "Scary movie? That's one idea," she said with a laugh, opening up Netflix. She went to look through he scary movies, glancing at him. "Anything looking good?" she asked, scrolling through them slowly enough for Rhys to see the options he had. "Make up," she confirmed. She disappeared and returned with her makeup bag. "Now, do you want make up on your face?" she asked. "I'll get you some wipes afterwards, but make up is a little more intense than nails so I don't have to do your makeup if you don't want," she said. She then opened up her make up bag and handed it to him. "I'm not gonna tell you how to use anything. Just try to figure it out," she said with a laugh, closing her eyes and tipping her face up towards him. This was all said before his next statement. "Were here for fun," she agreed. And then she laughed. "Oh, this is gonna be fun. I'll make you the prettiest man you've ever seen," she said. "I can also see what we've got in the pantry and see if I can find us a little dessert or something to go with the movie... After makeup, of course," she said. aether(Ugh sorry it's so short)

[ skip skoop ]
The night had passed by faster than Rhys had expected, it had been full of laughs - and after the scary movie came on, it had also been filled with frightened jumps and then even more laughter. Rhys had never experienced a night like it in his life and it was honestly one of the best in his long existence. The night was simple and stress free, it made him happy without there being consequences, and he was honestly just enjoying being in Jordan's warm company. Eventually he'd fallen asleep in the spare bedroom - after having washed all that make-up off his face. Warm blankets, a soft bed... it was like heaven compared to a street or those hard hotel beds. It was almost like the moment his head hit the pillow, he was waking up in the morning. The sunlight streamed in through his slightly ajar curtains and he sighed as he rolled out of the bed.
He wasn't entirely sure what to do now that he was awake. Did he stay in the bed until he could hear Jordan, then he got out? Or did he just get out and do as he pleased? He didn't want it to seem like he was doing something weird of shady by being up early and walking around her house. He did need to use the restroom, and his stomach was growling for some food, so he decided he would keep his roaming to strictly the kitchen and bathroom so it didn't seem so weird. He stepped out of his room and gently clicked the door closed, he recalled where the restroom was the night before, and soon enough he was in the kitchen trying his best to be quiet while he searched for something quick and easy to whip up. Hmm... toast? Or some crumpets? Maybe I could make pancakes for the two of us as a thank you... eggs and bacon and beans on toast maybe... he rubbed thoughtfully at his stubbled jawline as he considered his options. He wasn't a masterchef, but he could work nicely in the kitchen.
Outside, the sky was grey, but there didn't seem to be any rain just yet. It looked like a typical English day, really. So Rhys decided a typical English breakfast would be more than fitting. He scrounged around for the bacon, the eggs, and a can of baked beans - all of which he successfully located in the fridge and cupboard. After figuring out how her stove top worked, and where her pots and pans were kept, he set the beans on to heat up and he started sizzling some bacon. When everything was nearly finished, he popped some bread in the toaster and he cracked the eggs into his pan. Voila, a delicious looking breakfast was cooked in fifteen minutes. He gave them both a hearty serving and grinned. It felt nice to make it, because he hadn't been sure how he should really show his gratitude. The aroma in the kitchen was to die for. He wondered if the scent alone would wake her.

Jordan really did enjoy the night with Rhys. They just seemed to click and everything seemed to go exactly how it should go. There was no pressure for either of them to be perfect and it's the first time that Jordan has truly relaxed and enjoyed the night in a long time. She'd been sure to show Rhys his room and make sure he had everything he needed before heading to her own room for the night. Now, she woke up a little bit after Rhys and made her way to the shower. She showered every single morning and didn't see Rhys as a reason not to shower. He might even still be sleeping. She locked the door behind her and set the water to hot before stepping in. **** Riley didn't exactly knock or text Jordan to let her friend know when she arrived. The tow had been best friends for their entire lives, so Riley had had no problems getting a key to the house. Plus, she sometimes liked to surprise Jordan by bringing her out to breakfast. Today was one of those days. Riley was off of work and she knew that Sam was sleeping over at a friend's house. It was perfect and Riley tried her best to be there constantly for Jordan since she knew how unsupportive Eric was of his wife. So Riley didn't even hesitate as she slipped her key into the front door locked and pulled the door open. "I've arrived, smiley," she called throughout the house, before smelling something coming from the kitchen. Oh, so Jordan had already made breakfast? Odd, especially on a morning that she was alone. She'd make t early if Eric or Sam was around, but not usually on her own. Oh well. Riley was perfectly happy to eat here as well. She shut the door behind her and began heading towards the kitchen. "It smells absolutely fantastic in here... as if you knew-" Riley's words cut off abruptly when she got to the kitchen and saw some random man making breakfast. She stared at him for a moment, eyes open wide, before a large grin spread across her face. Go Jordan! He was pretty darn cute. "Did you-? Are you-? What-? So, uh, you have no idea how glad I am to see you," Riley said with a laugh, a mischievous smile on her face. Yes, taking a random guy home was pretty out of character for Jordan, but Riley was proud of her. "So, you set up a second date with her yet? Look, I'm happy to see she's finally ditching that dirtbag, but I'm also ready to beat up anyone that tries to hurt my girl," she warned him. She could now hear the shower running on the floor above hen. aether

Rhys didn't seem quite so excited as Riley did when she entered the house. In fact, his heart kind of dropped in a 'oh God, what if this person knows Jordan and they're going to attack me for being in the kitchen' kind of way. That was also the moment he heard the water turn on upstairs, and he groaned quietly when he realised Jordan wasn't going to come down and save the day for him. He heard the voice - a female, younger, Jordan's friend perhaps? - as she rounded the corner and he almost considered rushing away and hiding. But before he could make up his mind, Riley was standing in the doorway staring at him as if she was staring at a ghost. He opened his mouth to say something, but his brain was struggling to send the message. But then the stranger grinned. And she said she was glad he was there. And then Rhys was just extremely confused. He smiled sheepishly, his feet shuffling a little awkwardly, as he mumbled a little, "Well, uh, thanks." Back to her.
The situation was moving pretty quickly, but Rhys was starting to understand after Riley finished warning him. Based on the knowledge he already knew about Jordan's husband (which was little, but enough to know that he was undesirable) he figured that Riley thought that Jordan had left Eric and hooked up with someone else, who would be himself. He shook his head, his head of curls rocking back forth, "Uh, I'm glad to know that Jordan has such a supportive friend, but it isn't like that." He smiled at her a little sheepishly, "We didn't go on a date or anything - we're just friends. She let me stay here the night because I didn't have a place to go but nothing happened other than..." he glanced down to his fingernails which were still a pretty pink - he hadn't gotten around to cleaning it off last night but did plan on doing it soon. "Other than painting my nails," he held up his hands with the backs facing Riley so she could see, and he gave his fingers a little wiggle for effect.
The part that sparked his interest was the 'ditching that dirtbag' part. That meant that Riley must have had some knowledge about Jordan and Eric, and why it made her so upset... looking at the girl in front of him with innocent blue eyes, he asked, "What about ditching that dirtbag, though? Who is the dirtbag and why is he being ditched?" Maybe this strange girl - who obviously felt very at home in this house - could give him he answers that Jordan never did.

It didn't take Riley long to realize that the guy was confused about what was going on. Well, that was probably her fault. She was way ahead of herself, be she'd just been so excited at the idea of this cute guy cooking breakfast for Jordan. To Riley, there was only one logical explanation. Jordan had either kicked Eric out and gotten with this guy, or gotten with this guy while Eric was on his trip. She knew Jordan was forcing herself not to cheat on her husband, but she would snap eventually. Jordan wasn't the most patient person Riley knew, though she'd mellowed since they were kids. "I'm Riley, and you are?" she asked, figuring introductions would be a good place to start before they really stared talking. "Oh," Riley said, her face falling slightly in disappointment at his excuse. "Are you sure nothing happened? I won't tell Jordan that I know and I definitely won't tell Eric," she promised, clearly hoping that the two had done something last night - anything. Maybe that was a sign that Jordan was finally moving on from Eric. She deserved it. "Your nails are nice though," she said. She took a seat down at the table and motioned for him to sit down beside her, listening to his next question. She glanced upwards, listening to the shower. Jordan took long showers, but long enough to explain the whole situation? Probably not. "Uh," she tapped her fingers nervously for a moment. Jordan would kill her for saying anything. "The dirtbag I've been telling her to ditch since we were young," she began. "Eric." Her eyes narrowed as she hissed out his name. "The biggest creep you'll ever meet. A guy that doesn't deserve a girl like Jordan and a son like Sam," she said, shaking her head. She was trying to figure out what to say next when she heard the water shut off. They'd only have a few more minutes. "I don't work today," she said, scribbling her phone number on to a napkin. "Text me to set up a time and I'll tell you everything... you might be the only one that can save Jordan," she said, her blue eyes pleading as she looked at him and then up at the bathroom where she knew Jordan was drying off after her shower. (We can go a little longer I just ended the shower as a reason for Riley to not tell Rhys everything right now XD) aether

Rhys looked down the breakfasts, all steamy and delicious-smelling, and he hoped they wouldn't be too cold by the time Jordan came down. But Riley had introduced herself and she'd taken a seat, and it was only polite for him to follow suit. "I'm Rhys, it's nice to meet you, despite the weird circumstance," he chuckled softly as he pulled out a chair and took a seat across from Riley. His cheeks turned a little pink when Riley further questioned him on whether he and Jordan had done anything together, which wasn't helping his argument. "No, I swear - sorry to disappoint. We just watched a scary movie and she did my, uh, makeup." He laughed at how silly he sounded. He was a grown man who just got caught in a beautiful woman's house, after being asked if anything happened, all he had to say was he got prettied up and scared.
His interest peaked when she started talking about Eric though. He leaned forward ever so slightly as though he would miss a detail if he didn't, and his curious blue eyes narrowed. A creep? Doesn't deserve Jordan? Well these were all things that Rhys has already managed to determine, he was going to ask her to continue but was faced with the same dilemma as she: the lack of time. Luckily for him, it seemed, Riley was just as invested in getting rid of this Eric guy. He took Riley's number and slipped it into his pocket, "You'll hear from me - I'm free pretty much all day today too so we can meet up, perhaps over coffee." Even though Jordan wouldn't be able to hear them, his voice was a little quiet. It was like a sneaky detective case, he wanted to be cautious. To be honest, he'd not had many exciting things happen in his life over the past few decades.
To make up for the silence that was suddenly upon them, Rhys asked, "So how do you know Jordan? Are you a friend from here, or America?" He asked. He wasn't sure if Jordan had mentioned her name to him, but he did remember her talking about great friends from America. She spoke about it with so much passion. "You must be pretty close if you can confidently walk through the door," his eyes reflected his amusement to the situation. Now he wasn't frozen like a deer in headlights, he could definitely see the humour in the whole situation.
[ all good!]

Riley shrugged a bit when Rhys mentioned the weird circumstances. "Uh, yeah... Sorry about that," she said with a bit of a laugh. She clasped her hands together on the table and looked down at them for a moment before looking back at Rhys. "I just... you know... when there's a random guy in Jordan's kitchen, I got a little excited. I figured maybe Jordan was actually getting listening to me for once," she huffed. "She tries to deny it but literally anyone would be better for her than Eric," she said, her voice filled with disgust when she said his name. "Uh, yeah. It is a little disappointing," she said with a small laugh. "But maybe scary movies and makeup will lead to something...?" she asked, then she realized she was probably getting a little too personal for Rhys. "I'm sorry," she said. "This is probably a little too much and too personal for you, isn't it?" she asked, laughing a bit awkwardly. Riley nodded. "That sounds good. I mean, I really don't have much going on," she said with a shake of her head. "Just, uh, call me. Or text. Or something. I just... i seriously don't care. Jordan's really important to me and she won't listen to me, so I'm hoping you can help me," she said. She really did care about Jordan and wanted her away from Eric. "Coffee sounds good," she said with a little laugh. She decided to respond to his first question first. "America. We've been friends since, gosh, I can't even remember. Our whole lives. She moved out to London when we were 18 and I came a few years later. I got a good job offer with Eric and I absolutely hate it, but at least I can keep an eye on Jordan and see cute British boys," she said with a bit of a laugh. Then she smiled at his next comment. "Yeah... Eric doesn't approve of it, but Jordan gave me a house key since I was constantly coming over. I used to spend so much time over at her house that I practically lived there. So it just would've been weird if I didn't get a key to this house," she said. aetherSorry it's a bit short and icky

Rhys couldn’t help feeling amused at Riley’s response, ”I don’t know, if I were to walk into my friends house and there was a strange man there I’d be a little more scared than glad,” he joked, ”I’ve not heard much about this Eric fellow, but I’m not a fan of him either,” he said that a little more seriously a slightly nod of his head. He simply shrugged when she asked if it was too personal. It wasn’t like Rhys didn’t want to steal Jordan away from the life that made her sad. ”It’s fine,” was all he said. He had to admit, Riley seemed like a great friend who truly cared about Jordan – it was certainly admirable. ”I’ll make sure to, uh, text you.” He was still getting used to his phone, but he’d figure it out for sure.
Rhys listened with interest as Riley described how she’d made it to England, and why she had the house key. He nodded thoughtfully, and smiled kindly, ”Obviously the relationship you have with Jordan is very special – it’s very admirable, and she’s very lucky.” He said. He used to get envious over things that like – friends. He never had the opportunity to have a great friend, not for a long time, anyway. He always had to leave. He always had to hurt them, it almost felt cruel to get close to people… just sometimes he couldn’t help himself, and when he was with Jordan, he forgot about the fact that he was different – he stopped thinking about all his problems. It was nice. It was kind of addicting…
”I am glad you’ve been able to protect her because… she is definitely a special person,” his smile was sincere, his eyes just a tad bit dreamy. It was obvious he loved her – a blind man could see it. It was just the obstacles he had to hurdle through that stopped him from sweeping Jordan off her feet already. ”Not many people would let a person they just recently met stay at their house,” he laughed.

Riley shrugged at his comment. "Maybe if they're prowling around the house or have a gun or something. I think if most people broke in to hurt Jordan or something, they wouldn't take the time to make breakfast," she said, nodding towards the food he'd made. She reached over and grabbed a little bite from one of the plates. She hadn't eaten anything today and Jordan was used to Riley stealing her food. Then she nodded a bit more seriously as well. "Eric... he's not exactly the best guy. Jordan's miserable with him, but tries to make everyone think that she loves Eric," she said. She looked up at the sound of Jordan opening the bathroom door and heading towards her bedroom. "I'll tell you the rest of the details when we meet up later." Riley nodded. "I like to think I'm a good friend. We grew up together and have been like sisters our whole lives. That's why this Eric thing is bothering me so much. Because I know Jordan better than anyone and I can see how much she's hurting even when she tries to hide it," she said, shaking her head. "That's why I need your help, Rhys," she added. Maybe getting a guy involved would change Jordan's mind. Show her that she could have that dirtbag or she could have this sweet little cutie that actually cared about her. When Riley saw his face, she laughed. "Oh, boy. You like her. Like like like her," she said. She shook her head. "You want this to be more than a little one night thing." She was clearly still convinced that something happened last night. "You want a real relationship with her and that's the best news I've heard. There's a 95% chance you're a better guy than Eric and that's all I ever needed for my girl," she said. There was a large grin on her face as she thought about finally helping Jordan with this Eric problem. (I write all of my replies on my phone in the notes app XD) aether

Rhys nodded, ”Good point, psycho murderers don’t usually make delicious English breakfasts for their victims,” he chuckled at the amusing thought. He turned serious when she continued talking about Eric and he wished she could share more details now, but he knew she couldn’t. Jordan would be down any minute and they couldn’t have her knowing that they were discussing her personal, private business. Doing it behind her back wasn’t any better, honestly, but he had to know. He had to know so that he could help her, so that he could show her a life that was better – a life where she’d be happier than being stuck in a dead-end with a man who constantly made her sad and a son who deserved a happy mother.
His cheeks turned pink when Riley became excited and he quickly shook his head, although his cheeks just turned a little brighter. ”I-I don’t like like her,” he tried to defend himself. It was a funny sight, seeing this full grown man, with bright pink cheeks being so embarrassed. His denial was futile though, because it was obvious. He did like like Jordan. He loved her. For her, she may have only known him a few days, but he’d known her a lifetime. ”And we didn’t do anything last night, I swear,” he didn’t want to give her the wrong idea, although it didn’t seem like he was doing a good job of that… ”But I swear I’m a better guy than Eric, and I do want to help Jordan.” His blue eyes were determined.
He could hear Jordan’s footsteps upstairs and he rubbed at the back of his neck a littler nervously, ”What do we say when she asks what we were talking about?” He asked sheepishly, ”I don’t want her to think that we’re scheming anything,” he added. Rhys had proved multiple times that he wasn’t the best at thinking of good things to say in the moment, he would usually say something a little silly or too flirty. Maybe he could just snowball off Riley… she seemed like a quick-thinker.

"Exactly! If you were making breakfast, I figured Jordan must have invited you in. Unless you put something in the food. I'll need to take a bite from each plate," she said, though she'd already stolen a bite from one plate. "It smells good. I usually just keep it simple with a fried egg and frozen sausage, but it's usually Jordan that's making breakfast for me. I just swing by if she makes Sam something good," she said with a bit of a laugh. Then Eric was the topic of conversation again. Oh, Riley hated Eric with a passion. Jordan deserved so much better and she was beginning to hope that Rhys would be the one to help her with that. Of course, Riley would have to see if he really was a good guy, but it was hard to be worse than Eric. Almost any guy would be a step up, especially because Riley knew about when they were in high school and Jordan would share her dreams of having a loving husband and a sweet little family. She couldn't have that with Eric, but maybe she could with Rhys. Riley smiled when she saw how pink his cheeks were. "Hey, your cheeks match your nails," she teased. Hey, she didn't often get to make guys blush like that, so she might as well enjoy it while she could. "But you do like J. I can see it in your eyes. It's absolutely disgusting, but also kind of adorable. So, let's make a deal. You help me get rid of Eric and I'll make sure Jordan gives you a real chance," she said. She obviously wouldn't force Jordan to go out with Rhys if she didn't want to, but she couldn't see Jordan turning him down. Her blue eyes were serious as she waited to see how Rhys answered. She sighed. "Okay, fine, if you didn't do anything last night, I'll believe you. I wouldn't care even if you did. Jordan's my friend, not my daughter. In fact, I'd be proud. But, uh, whatever. That's not important. Right now, what's important is that you claim you're better than Eric. I'm gonna take your word, but you need to help me," she said, her blue eyes pleading. Riley shrugged. "Well, it's not unusual for me to be here. I'll say that I'm interrogating her new boyfriend which will probably make both of you all blushy and embarrassed. That gives you an excuse not to talk and I'll just kinda float us back into casual conversation territory. I don't think she'll be suspicious though," Riley said with a shrug. Since Rhys only made two plates and she was staying for breakfast, she walked over to the fridge for some eggs before beginning to fry them and grabbing a bagel from the fridge. She put it in the toaster and then glanced at Rhys as she waited for his reaction. (I always write in the notes app so I don't lose my hard work. [ cue jordan now? o.o ]
When Riley pointed out his cheeks being pink like his nails, he turned his head downwards and shyly removed his hands from the tabletop and into his lap. He'd have to make sure he removed that polish before he left, because he didn't really want to be that person walking around with bright pink nails. He had a reputation to keep (oh, sure he did). He also sure whether he should laugh or be offended when she said the look of admiration he held for Jordan was disgusting and adorable. It was conflicting, but she kept on talking, so it was easy to forget. "I'll do my best to make Jordan happy. Even if at the end she doesn't want me, I just want to do what is in her best interest," there was no lie - no tremble in his voice. He was sure, he was determined. He'd loved Jordan's soul so many times, over and over - it hadn't always been romantic, but sometimes it was platonic. But... there was only one way to describe the increase in his heart rate and the excited feeling he got when he was in her presence. It was love. He loved Jordan. He was glad when Riley said she believed him, though, about... doing things the night before. He sat up a little straighter when she looked at him with those pleading blue eyes, and he nodded firmly. "I promise - I'll help you however I can. - I'll help Jordan however I can." It was a little strange arranging everything behind Jordan's back, but he decided that so long as they didn't force her to do anything and that if it was in her best interest it was okay.
Rhys had to admit, he was glad Riley seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. He figured she was a little strange, but she seemed to turned it into some sort of her own personal 'charismatic charm'. She almost had an aura of knowing exactly what she wanted and how to get it - and it made sense her best friend was Jordan. Jordan was a little more gentle, thinking about others before herself, while Riley seemed more headstrong. She was clearly a devoted friend. He shrugged his shoulders and gave a nod, "I think you just predicted the exact situation, so I'm going to do the easy thing and sit back and relax," he chuckled.
Since he felt sitting while she was preparing food for herself, Rhys stood up and followed her into the kitchen, where he did his best to help her by clearing some space and pulling out some cooking utensils. He could hear Jordan's footsteps upstairs as she neared the staircase and he looked to Riley, "Well, here she comes by the sounds of it," he took a breath. He didn't know why, but he was suddenly feeling a little nervous. Maybe it was the fact that he knew that soon he'd be going behind her back. Rhys hated lying or hiding the truth, he was terrible at it too. Keeping his mouth shut wasn't so much of a bad idea.

(Wooooh I forgot to reply I'm sorry) Riley smiled a bit at the way he took his fingernails out of her view. "Just ask Jordan for the nail polish remover when she comes down. Girl will be happy to give it to you," she promised. There was something cute about the way that he had allowed her best friend to paint his fingernails. It was something that Eric would not only have refused to do, but an idea that he would laugh at and refuse to take seriously. Yet Rhys had allowed her to do it with likely no arguing. Riley was sure Jordan would back down if he argued. In fact, maybe it was Rhys that suggested it. Jordan wasn't exactly into most girly things like that. She grinned as she watched Rhys. She actually had been planning this for a while, she had just been waiting for the right guy to stumble into Jordan's life. Once Jordan picked a guy, Riley could put her plan into action. And now it looked like she had chosen Rhys. At his statement, she studied his face for any signs that he was lying or that he wouldn't be true to his word. Then she nodded. "Alright, but don't hurt her. Jordan... she's had a lot of heartbreak in her life and lost a lot of people. I don't want her hurt anymore," she said, her voice soft for the first time as she watched him. She'd lost her high school love, her mother, her brother, her cousin, her father (not physically but emotionally), and felt as though she lost a husband because of how horribly Eric filled that role. Riley didn't want to threaten Rhys, but she would if that's what it took to keep Jordan safe. When he agreed to help, Riley smiled. She was no stranger to doing things behind Jordan's back. They both did that at times, more when they were younger and it was stupid things like pranks And birthday presents. This was serious and Riley knew that Jordan wouldn't be happy about it, but her anger was worth it if she could give Jordan a better life with Rhys instead of the one she lived with Eric. Riley smiled. "Hey, I know Jordan better than anyone else, and I just took a stab at how you'd act. Sounds like I'm pretty good at this whole reading people thing," she said. Actually, she wasn't. But Rhys didn't have to know that. It was that he was just so clearly like liking her friend, that Riley had been able to predict how Rhys would react when Jordan finally came down to join them. "Boy her showers are long," she commented, reminded of a story. "Jordan actually came to live with me for a few weeks once. It was shortly after she married Eric and they had gotten into this huge fight. Well, Jordan came to live with me and I remember her taking a long shower like this every single morning," she said with a laugh. If only Jordan had agreed to stay with her instead of moving back in with Eric. She and Sam would both be happier living with Riley. Riley finished up her own breakfast and got to the table just moments before Jordan came down. She stuffed a bite of egg into her mouth, grabbing a napkin as she felt yolk rolling down her chin. "Hey," she said, greeting Jordan with a smile. "Riley...?" Jordan asked, then her eyes widened when she saw Rhys there as well. "I swear, nothing happened between us, Ri," she said, her face turning pink. Riley rolled her eyes. "Oh, relax. Rhys already promised me." She slid the plate that Rhys had made for Jordan over to an empty seat. "Now sit down and eat what your new boyfriend made you." Hey, she could have fun with this. Jordan sat down, her cheeks bright pink. (Oh nobody knows about this site XD Id either be embarrassed or get a lecture (from my dad) about how taking to people online is dangerous) aether

Rhys was quite amused listening to Riley talk – he thought that he would definitely be able to get along well with her. He chuckled heartily at Riley’s story of Jordan taking long showers and then he caught himself having to not envision that. He wasn’t a creep, but Riley had mentioned it, and well, his brain drifted. He glanced away for a moment as he thought about something else… a dog chasing a cat up a tree. That was much better, and ten times less creepy. He didn’t want to blush again and have Riley question him, so he moved back over and sat at the table. Then he heard Jordan’s voice at the entrance to the kitchen, and he glanced up. His face brightened, and a smile moved by itself on his face, and after the words between Riley and Jordan, he had both a smile on his face and pink cheeks. Even though he knew to expect some light-hearted teasing, he still blushed. He looked like a tough manly man, and usually he kind of was, but there was something about being emotionally attached and open that made him more vulnerable. Besides, she was looking adorable with her bright red cheeks… it was cute.
”I made some beans and sausage and eggs on toast for us, Riley came in and, uh, helped herself.” He chuckled as he passed Jordan the plate that wasn’t the corner of the toast and some sausage and beans that Riley had stolen. He was glad that Jordan had made it downstairs so that he could finally dig in, because the smell and the food had been teasing and tempting him, he was glad to start eating it. When he was hungry, he was a fast eater, and he devoured the meal quickly. ”How’d you sleep?” He asked Jordan casually as he wiped some sauce from his mouth with a napkin. ”While you were upstairs, Riley was telling me a bit about how she’s known you for years.” He glanced to Riley with a smile, then back to Jordan.
He figured some casual conversation would not hurt the situation, and he hoped that Riley would also be able to see that he did truly care for Jordan. Looking at her made his heart melt every time, it was almost kind of difficult not to notice the fact he looked at her with particularly soft eyes and a gentle smile. It was just her – the person who he had loved for hundreds of years. She was here, she was within his reach… she was what he wanted.
. Haha xD naw well

Riley didn't think that Rhys had to try not to envision what she was talking about. If she did, then she might have to have some stern words with him. If he wanted to do anything more than even hug her, he better mean it. Luckily, the images he was trying to ignore didn't cross Rileys mind and Rhys didn't have to put up with that awkward lecture. Riley kept her eyes on Rhys as Jordan entered the kitchen, noticing how his face seemed to light up at her best friend's arrival. Even that made Riley happy. She'd never seen Eric react like that when his wife walked into a room, even towards the beginning of their marriage when it looked like things might work out. Maybe Rhys wasn't as bad as some of the guys out there. She could only hope hat he wasn't. "Not my boyfriend," Jordan said, the color fading from her cheeks slightly as she took a seat at the table. She glanced over at Rhys. "So what are you planning today?" she asked. "House hunting? Work? Volunteering?" she asked. She had no idea that Riley and Rhys would be meeting up to make plans behind her back. She then glanced down at the food as he explained. Riley had almsot finished her own breakfast and Jordan hadn't even started. "Well, thank you, Rhys. This looks and smellls delicious. And don't worry about Jordan. She's always helping herself to my stuff and I'm always helping myself to her stuff. It's how we work," she said, nudging Riley with her elbow since she'd taken the seat between Rhys and Riley. "I slept pretty well. I was woken up at like two in the morning by a phone call from the friend that Sam is staying over with, but everything's okay there so I was able to go back to sleep." "What was up with Sam?" Riley asked curiously, dabbing some egg yolk from her chin. She sometimes viewed Sam as her own child. If not, she viewed him as a nephew. "Oh, he just wasn't feeling well. He woke the mom up with a terrible stomachache. Then he threw up and was feeling better so we decided to let him stay for the night," she explained before turning back to rhys. Riley nodded. "That's right. He was confused as to why I wasn't freaking out about a strange man in your kitchen and also I had to explain why I just wander in here whenever I feel like it," she said with a shrug as if it was no big deal that she was constantly walking in to this house. Jordan rolled her eyes. "Yes, Riley is my best and oldest friend and I don't know what I'd do without her. She even moved to London for me," Jordan said. Riley rolled her eyes. "You? Or cute British boys? Like this guy?" she asked, wanting to gauge Jordan's reaction. Jordan blushed and looked down at her plate. Good. She at least thought Rhys was good looking. That was a start. Rhys was still giving off all this signs of like liking her friend and Riley couldn't help but feel like things were finally going her way. Maybe Jordan could be happy now. aether

At Jordan’s question asking what he was planning to do for the day, Rhys froze for a moment. Only because he’d not prepared to answer questions, and he knew the answer would be a lie because he was meeting with Riley later that day – he just couldn’t say that. After a second, he gave a sheepish smile and shrugged his shoulders, his gaze stared next to Jordan. Gosh, he couldn’t be a more obvious liar, really. But when he cared about someone like he did Jordan he didn’t like lying! ”I’m just going to do some house hunting, I’ll go to the real estate and all that boring stuff…” He said – which was kind of obviously not his plans. So after he said it, he glanced to Riley with an almost panicked ’help me!’ look. He was asked one question, a innocent question no less, and he was already crashing and burning. Typical Rhys, huh? He said his next words quickly in the hopes of distracting her from his meltdown moments before, ”I’m glad you like the food! And I’m glad that Sam is feeling a bit better this morning, or else that would have sucked going to pick him up that late…” He rubbed the back of his neck with his hand. Oh, Rhys.
He did laugh a little more easy at Riley’s joke about moving for the cute British boys, and then gesturing to him. It was also flattering, but it didn’t make him blush like Jordan’s compliments did. He did look at the redness on Jordan’s cheeks, though, and he smiled. It was nice knowing she agreed that he was cute. He was really starting to enjoy Riley’s company – she seemed to not be afraid to say or do anything. It was refreshing, plus, pretty funny too.
After finishing his plate of breakfast, he stood to take it to the sink – rinsing off all the cause under the tap, then placing in in the sink. ”I think everyone needs a friend the way you two are – because you always know you have someone to count on. So it’s really admirable that you’d come to England for Jordan,” Rhys said with a smile to Riley.

(Woooh short posts) Jordan was confused by Rhys's reaction to her question. Was he hiding something? She didn't know why he'd feel that was necessary before remembering that they really were little more than strangers. She felt like she knew Rhys, like they'd been friends forever, but she knew that wasn't true. They'd only met a few days ago and she wondered, again, why she had let him stay with her. She didn't mind, but it wasn't a very typical Jordan thing to do. "Well, I hope you have fun with that. Or, uh, luck. I doubt it'll be very fun," she said, ignoring his obvious lie because she didn't want to cause any trouble. At his next comment about Sam, she nodded. "I think he gets a bit homesick too, but I really didn't want to go pick him up. I need my beauty sleep," she joked with a bit of a laugh. And she just really hadn't wanted to get out of bed so late at night. Riley seemed to get his struggle, so she tried to jump in and deflect any more questions Jordan might have for the man. Maybe later Riley would talk to him about the importance of being cool under pressure. If he couldn't handle a question like that, she wasn't sure she had much hope for him. Jordan was glad to see that Rhys and Riley were getting along well. Riley was obviously her best friend and there was something intriguing about Rhys that made Jordan want to know more about him. When she finished, she followed his lead to clean her plate and took Riley's plate as well. "Aw thanks mom," Riley teased, causing Jordan to roll her eyes. She then looked over at rhys when she heard his comment. "Aw, thanks. Yeah, J is my best friend, and I couldn't just let her take all the cute British boys for herself," she said. Plus, she knew Jordan was miserable living alone with eric. Riley was able to provide some companionship. She couldn't say that in front of Jordan. "I'm married," Jordan reminded her, though the smile slipped from her face. It was replaced quickly as she shook her head at her two friends. "Well, you two seem to be busy, so I guess I'll head to the shelter alone today," she said, leaning up against the pantry to watch Riley and Rhys as she spoke. (Sorry with was blegh) aether

[ woooh ]
Rhys felt an odd sense to scoop Jordan low into his arms and hold her in his arms until that slipped smile found it's way back onto her face. What on Earth did he have to do to make that bright spark return and never leave again? Because he would do it and more. His brows furrowed as his blue eyes fell to glance quickly at the ring that held her life hostage. More than ever, he wanted to leave her house so that he and Riley could begin talking about everything. After he finished up with his dishes, he turned to Jordan and sent her a smile of his own. "Maybe I'll be able to join you at the shelter next time?" He asked with a hopeful tone in his voice. Before he glanced down at his watch and noticed the time - he wanted to go. Not so that he could purposely leave Jordan, but because he was itching to talk to Riley. He glanced to Riley out of the corner of his eye before turning his full attention back to Jordan, his eyes were blue and warm. "I'd best be off now, actually. But I'll probably see you soon," He wasn't sure whether he should hug Jordan in that friendly 'thank you' matter, or to just awkwardly handshake her or something. But, before his mind was made up, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her in a warm, gracious hug. "Thank you so much for letting me stay here, I'll have to surprise you with something nice to make up for it," he said, his warm breath against his ear. Despite the fact he truly didn't want to, he stepped back. He gave a small wave to Riley, and headed for the door.

Jordan caught his eyes traveling to her ring once more and she found herself sticking her hand in her pockets, just wanting Rhys to focus on her and Riley instead of what was on her hand. And that's when Jordan had a thought. Did Rhys like her? Like like like? It wasn't something she'd normally think about, but she noticed that he stared at her ring more than once. Why would he care if she was married if he wasn't interested in her? No. She pushed the thoughts away. Rhys was a friend and that's it. His words pulled her back to realty and she nodded, a smile on her face. "That sounds nice," she said. "I'd love to have you back and I think the dogs would too," she said with a smile. They'd all been pretty happy when she And Rhys had gotten to walk them yesterday. And then Rhys said he had to go. "Well, I'll see you later," Jordan said. "Uh, feel free to text me if you need anything." She was surprised when Rhys leaned forward to hug her, but she wrapped her arms around him, smiling at his words. "It was nice to have you over. Let me know if you need somewhere to stay." Then she laughed a bit. "Oh, you don't have to do anything for me, Rhys. It was just nice to spend a night with someone that knows how to have fun." She watched him go, her body feeling cooler without his warmth. Riley watched Rhys and then grinned. "Well, if you're sticking with Eric, I might as well go after him," she said, nudging Jordan as Rhys left. She wasn't actually interested in Rhys (plus, she wanted Rhys and Jordan together), but if Jordan thought she was interested, then she wouldn't question why Riley and Rhys were hanging out if she saw them somewhere together. "Oh, riley," Jordan laughed. Riley ran to catch up with Rhys, nudging him with her elbow. "You don't like like her, huh? What's up with that hug then?" she asked. (Ugh this is gross but I've been doing stuff and I'm tired so I figaired id put this up before work XD Anyway wanna skip to Riley and Rhys meeting up and talking? Where should they go? A bar? Phones are such useful devices, Rhys noted as he parked his bike on the roadside. Without his handheld device he never would have found his way to the Norwegian Junction Bar, which he found the name to be amusing because they weren't any near Norway. He tucked his phone into an inside pocket of his leather jacket and he locked his helmet onto his bike before he walked inside. Being midday now, the bar wasn't lively, other than some people enjoying a lunch and some oldies who looked as though they were having some sort of 'book club' in the corner. Nonetheless, it was inconspicuous and it seemed like a pleasant place to talk with Riley.
Rhys strode forward and sat by the bar on a stool, he'd arrived a few minutes early because he didn't have anywhere else to be and figured that he would rather be early than keep Riley waiting for him. So, he ordered a lemonade (he didn't want anything alcoholic, as he had to ride his bike afterwards), and he sipped on it while he waited patiently.

Riley showed up a few minutes late to the meeting with Rhys, her hair still wet from the shower. When she saw him, she smiled, glad to see that he'd actually come. Maybe this guy really was interested in Jordan. Maybe he did want the best for her. She sure hoped so. Jordan was her best friend. She approached the bar and ordered only a glass of water and an order of chips and salsa for the two of them to share. Well, she'd offer some to Rhys. She wouldn't force him to eat. She thanked the bartender and sipped from her water, meeting his eyes before she finally spoke. "You came," she said, sounding a bit surprised. She shook her head. "Sorry, I shouldn't be surprised. It's just that not many people put in that much effort to learn about Jordan." The chips and salsa came and Riley dipped a chip into the salsa before popping it into her mouth. "Want some?" she asked, sliding the basket between them. "Well, I suppose you want answers more than chips and salsa, but it's there anyway. Do you have any specific questions? Stuff you wanna know about?" she asked. Her eyes seemed to lose some of their playful gleam as the topic of Jordan came up. aether

Rhys watched with serious blue eyes as he sipped at his drink, waited for Riley to finish her order and settle in front next to him. He started to feel nervous for some strange reason, as though they were children in the playground about to share some silly secret. He was a grown man, no child, so he swallowed his nerves and straightened out his shoulders as Riley looked at him, and he nodded in response to her first words. Of course he came, he didn't think there was a chance he couldn't. Jordan never left his mind. Her next words surprised him though, resulting in a raised eyebrow and a look of disbelief. People don't usually put much effort into Jordan? She's gorgeous - how could they not? He accepted a chip at her offer. "Jordan is the one person who I think I want to give all my effort too," he said it softly because it was more of a shy confession than anything else.
"I want to know why she is with Eric when clearly even the mention of his name makes her depressed," he started flatly, putting it out there without hesitation. He settled his cornflower blue gaze on Riley's, they were desperate for knowledge. No one, at that moment, could doubt Rhys' intentions. Because his eyes were only blazing with intense determination.

Riley popped another chip into her mouth, careful not to cut Rhys off. He could be her one chance to get rid of Eric. He was the one guy that Jordan seemed to have interest in after getting married. She smiled at his confession. "Good. Jordan deserves that. But I hope you're willing to look out for Sam too. Jordan isn't going to go anywhere without that kid," she said. It wasn't that people didn't get Jordan much effort because they didn't care about her, she just tried to make herself fade into the background. It was unlike Jordan, but that's been her life for the past few years. She faded into the background and people were much more interested in Eric's work or talking to Sam. After all, he was a cute kid and the heir to his father's company. Riley sipped at her drink, chewing on the straw a bit when Rhys told her what he wanted to know. She let a silence settle over them for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to answer this, how much detail to give. When she saw the intensity in his eyes, she nodded. He needed to know, even if Jordan hated Riley for it. "Um, I'm not sure where to start. You know about Eric and his company, right? Well, it was started by Jordan's dad and Eric's dad. Business partners. They decided that the best way to keep it in the family - instead of falling into the wrong hands - was to marry their children. Jordan's brother and Mom had died in a car accident a few years before, so there was nobody to argue when she turned 18 and her dad took her out of school and over here to marry Eric before she even graduated high school. I know she's considered leaving Eric before, but she's just worried about disappointing her dad. Besides her cousin, he's really all she has left. Plus, now with Sam, she has to be careful. Eric would want to keep Sam because he's the heir, but I know Eric doesn't care about Sam in the way Jordan does..." she explained. That was a brief enough explanation she hoped. "And that's why I need your help. You care about Jordan and she won't listen to me, but maybe if I can get her to see a guy that truly loves or cares about her, she could be happier." aether

Rhys' intent seriousness may seem to be somewhat intimidating to people outside the conversation, but really, he just wanted to know why Jordan was trapped, and why she couldn't leave. That's why every word that Riley emitted was lapped up as if it were water and he was dehydrated. At first, he couldn't help but clench his hand around his drink, feeling angry at Jordan's father for putting her in a situation that was now causing her grief, but his hand slackened when Riley mentioned the death of Jordan's mother and brother. No one would be able to tell, from looking at Jordan and from spending some time with her, that she had lived such a tough life. And when Riley went on to say that Jordan's father was really all she had left, he couldn't be angry at the man anymore. Understanding settled in him when Riley finished and he sighed softly, glanced up at the bar and at the array of beverages that were placed neatly and decoratively along the wall. What can I do? How can I help?
"I definitely want to help her. I just want to see her be happy, really happy." He said after a few moments of silence. The more time he spent with Jordan, the more he realised her happiness was a face, and her true emotions were bottled up inside. His blue gaze snapped back to Riley and he furrowed his eyebrows, "But how? Honestly, I just want to steal her away but for many reasons I obviously can't do that," there was finally a bit of humour to his tone, albeit cynical. "I don't want to hurt her or hurt Sam in anyway, but clearly how she is living now is just causing her to be filled with grief... we need a plan." Currently, he knew he was still going to interact with Jordan, perhaps try to get closer to her too. But he needed a clearer goal. Gosh, I wish I could just scare Eric away, he thought with irritation.
