Ben Kinter // The Underworld
"Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens " โ โฆโพโโพโฆ โ Ben woke with a start, inhaling deeply, and springing off the ground into a sitting position. He stared down at his right arm, flexing his fingers, studying it incredulously. Aside from the scar wrapping around his forearm you never would have known it was cut off. He looked down, his clothes still stained with his blood from his last battle, the wound that had killed him was no replaced by a deep scar running from his collar bone to the center of his chest. The son of Hephaestus then brought his hand to his left ear, snapping loudly, and wining at the noise. "Everything's here and everything works... that's good... at least I won't be handicapped." He stood up, brushing the dirt off his pants, studying his surroundings. It seemed as if he was in the center of some dark and dingy swamp. "Florida?" The demigod whispered. "Close, but you are not that fortunate, Son of Hephaestus." A voice called, just a few feet behind him. Instantly Ben turned the dial on his watch, watching it turn into a double sided battle ax, and seamlessly directing it at the throat of the stranger. It wasn't long after that, that Ben realized he wasn't in Florida.
"O Captain. My Captain. Charon the Ferryman, what do I owe this pleasure?" The demigod questioned, a smirk on his face. "You think it wise to chide the Ferryman of Hades himself, Aeneas Kinter?" Ben rolled his eyes, he had heard stories that Charon had a bit of an attitude, but he couldn't really visualize it until now. "Here to take me to Asphodel?" No reply. Ben rolled his eyes and reached into his pocket, tossing a drachma to him, as the immortal being looked at it with distaste. "Take it or leave it bud, that's all I got." It was Charon's turn to roll his eyes this time. "You are destined for greater things Aeneas Kinter." Ben sighed, he really hated being called Aeneas. Ben's namesake was her mom's favorite Greek Hero, apparently Hephaestus, Ben's dad, told stories of the Demigod all the time. "So what? Elysium?" No reply. Ben sighed softly, as he was out of coin, and didn't want anymore riddles to deal with. "Well let's get on with it. I'm sure you're a busy person... Where's your boat?" The demigod looked around, in search of the Ferryman's ferryboat. Charon snapped his fingers and a decrepit rowboat appeared on the shore near the two. Ben looked quizzically at the rundown boat, but boarded it nonetheless.
It was a rather long boat ride, sailing through the river Acheron, Ben looked into the water very briefly and immediately regretted it. Everything he had given up on, or not achieved, or regretted flashed before his eyes in an instant. He reared back into the boat, almost tipping it. He hadn't realized the river was calling him, and that he was inches from drowning in a river of forgotten dreams, for eternity. Ben inhaled deeply, glaring at Charon. "Thanks for the warning... they don't exactly mention that in any of the stories..." He muttered angrily. "What you do is none of my concern, nor is it my business. I am here to guide you through the river, if you fall in... well... Gods be with you." Ben rolled his eyes, for at least the thirtieth time this trip, he had lost count after he hit twenty-something.
"Aeneas." Ben heard his name, a whisper that was barely audible, and turned back to curse at Charon. "I told you-" That's when it hit him. It was a woman's voice that he had heard, not Charon. "Are there sirens here too?" He growled, activating his watch, which turned into a studded iron ball attached to a chain. Charon said nothing. "Aeneas!" The voice was louder this time, and most definitely belonged to a woman... a familiar sounding woman at that. Why does she sound so familiar? "Aeneas! You dare raise your weapon to your own mother? After you had the audacity to go ahead and forget her voice!" The voice called again, this time even louder, as if it were coming from right beside him. He turned to the voice, swinging the ball over his head, ready to strike in an instant. "Aeneas Kinter, dass ich nicht schlagen!" Ben flinched at the words, the last thing he wanted to do was get slapped by his supposed mother, especially at a time like this. "Where are you?" The demigod called, his eyes scanning the river in search of his mother.
"I am here, mein sohn!" Ben felt a tap on his shoulder and quickly turned around, and to his disbelief, it was his mother standing in front of him. "What? But how? Who?" He looked back and forth between his mother and Charon, waiting for a response from either. "How do I know you're not a monster?" Ben asked, his weapon still in his hands. Hanna Kinter rolled her eyes and smacked Ben, just behind his ear like she always used to do when he was a kid. Ben flinched momentarily before wrapping his arms around his mother. "It's you, it's really you! You haven't changed at all in ten years!" Tears were pouring down his face as he held on tight to his mortal parent. "Well duh Aeneas, that's what happens when you die. But you on the other hand! Oh danke der Gรถtter! Sie schauen nichts wie dein Vater! Auรer den Muskeln! Gรผte!" Hanna switched to German, something she often did when she was excited. Ben smiled. She had always pronounced his name wrong-Ahn-ijus but if he told her that, she'd simply say that everyone else was saying it wrong and that she was right. He rolled his eyes as she continued. If dad was so ugly... why'd you have a kid with him? Though he knew if he asked her she would slap him, and curse at her in German, as she always did.
"Wh-what are you doing here?" He questioned, still amazed he was seeing her for the first time in ten years. "What am I doing here? What are you doing here? I told you to always be careful, and here you are dying for a son of Hades! He can probably come back to life anytime he wants, you my son. Cannot." Hanna glared at her son, but her eyes become softer as his expression grew dark. "Mein sohn, I am so proud of you for sacrificing yourself for your friends. You are a true hero, Elysium would be not be near good enough for you, I'm saddened, yet happy that you must leave so soon..." She sighed, stroking his hair softly. "I have come to give you my blessing. The man said it must be done to fulfill the prophecy."
Ben's mind was going a mile a minute. Blessing? What man? What prophecy? Why all of these riddles? However he knew better than to ask his mother that many questions at once."I can tell you are confused, and I cannot tell you much, for I do not know enough. All I know is that I am to give you my blessing, and that your friend will come save you, as you saved him." She stated. "What blessing mom? And Simon? Simon can't come here can he? He's out of reach of the gods... speaking of... why am I here?" He turned to look at Charon, as these were questions he had to answer. "Special orders. We're crossing the Styx, do it quickly." The ferryman said, not bothering to make eye contact with either of the Kinter's. Ben turned to his mother. "Jetzt werden Sie sicher sein, fรผr immer." Now you will be safe, forever. Those were the last words he heard before she pushed him into the waters below.
Ben sank faster than a ten ton rock shot out of a cannon into the Styx. He was drowning with no hope of ever resurfacing. Ihr Schal, dumm. The voice of his mother rang out through his head. Why my scarf? Why are you telling me this? Then Ben finally connected the dots. His mother had given him his blessing to bathe in the River Styx, for what? He didn't know, but he did know that if this was to work, he needed to think of an 'Achilles heel'. My scarf, mother are you sure? That seems painfully... easy to reach. There was no reply, but he didn't need one. Ben focused all of his energy and concentration onto the area where his chin and his neck met together. All of a sudden a blast of... something, he didn't know what it was, shot him up closer to the surface, but he was still to far away to swim for it. The demigod would run out of breath before long and he would drown in the river.
No! I cannot die!... again... I can't. He thought of Ezreal, Skylar, Carly, and Simon. He had to protect them, that was his task that Chiron trusted him with, and he would not fail! With a renewed sense of purpose, Ben shot up to the surface of the river, gasping for air as he pulled himself onto the boat. His mother was gone and Charon hadn't even batted an eye. "It is time to meet the king of this domain."
โ โฆโดโโดโฆ โ " It is all just a part of the fairy tale "

Simon felt overwhelmed by everything. Carly was crying, he knew that, and he was aware of tears that fell slowly from his own cheeks but he couldn't move much. Guilt was overwhelming him and it didn't help when Ezreal saw the dead body of his best friend. He started to cry hysterically, fight off the skeletons on him, then run to go and see his best friend. Simon thought that his heart had been shattered already but Ezraels pleas only made him more distraught. He was beyond words, unable to process much, still clutching onto Ben as he tried to think but found that his brain was absolute mush.
He even let Carly hug him. His body was tense and like stone as the bright red head hugged him firmly but it was also the only time he actually let Ben go. He sniffled a little bit, using her shoulder to rub the tears away, trying his best to keep it together infront of everyone else. He didn't like any of this, he wanted nothing more than to go home, but he didn't think that was the right choice. There was something fishy going on and they had been sent on a quest... they needed to keep going but Simon didn't know how to. His body was trembling a little as he buried his head into Carlys shoulder. He let out a shaky sob before trying his best to actually collect himself. He didnt' answer her, when he suggested talking to his father, because he wasn't the best at talking to the man. They had a rather awkward relationship, it wasn't really tense, but Simon didn't exactly know how to talk to the God of the Underworld. It was just... awkward. If anyone had actually ever met Hades it'd be easy to see why all his children seemed to be at some level socially stunted.
He was only brought back when Ezrael suggested just leaving him and coming back after the quest. He shook his head immediately at that before rubbing his eyes and pulling away from Carly. "We can't just leave him here. We've got to at least give him some kind of burial... it wouldn't be fair to let him wander, Lost, because we didn't give him Drachmas or a proper burial," He protested immediately. They needed at least to throw some dirt over him and find some money for the fair... they needed to do somethign for him. He was warming up a little to the idea of asking his father of help.
It wouldn't be bad to ask Hades. If anything they would be able to get a definitive answer on whether Ben could come back or not. The thing was, there was this itch in the back of his throat, somethign that he got when someone died when they weren't supposed to. He'd seen it before, someone being shoved infront of a car, or even an allergic reaction. There were rare times when death happened before the Fates wanted it and it always gave Simon that weird itch.
So this couldn't have been right and that nagging feeling that it was supposed to be him dead was already coming back. He clasped his hands together tightly before turning a little when Carly asked if he was okay. He gave a slow shrug and eyed her slowly. "I'm fine. We just... We just need to think objectively here. Of what we can do," His voice was hoarse as he stood slowly and looked at them, thinking over the options. He bristled at Skylars comments, showing her a glare, because that was his dad they were talking about. They might have a weird relationship but the only person who got to complain about that was him, no one else. "Hey, thats my dad there, He'd know better than to kill his nieces when they're on a quest. Plus killing his nieces would just be begging for some kind of war. The worst that would happen is he'd laugh us out. But it wouldn't hurt to ask him. If anything we still need to talk to Ben. He's the only one who knows what we're even supposed to do," and I don't see him anywhere here. But he didn't mention that part. Instead he just tried to think of a way they could do this, head starting to ache from crying, nibbling on his lip as he glanced towards the ground. Any help here, dad? I could kind of use an answer... He thought, although he didn't expect much of a response.

(For the most part. My ankle is a bit sore and I have a nasty cut on my arm and my tailbone is pretty sore which is definitely the worst part like I could barely drive home it hurt so bad. Got the wind knocked out of me for a few minutes. Besides that I'm just gonna be very sore and desperately hoping I don't have a concussion. Thanks for asking but yeah I don't think anything serious happened)

( tenny I'm not sure when I can get a reply up. I've tried but I've been just absolutely drained the past few days and I may have a concussion (I doubt it but I'm still trying to take it easy for a bit to be certain) and so I haven't really been feeling up to long replies. I don't want to hold this up so we can skip my turn this time. I just feel really bad for holding this up and I'm trying to take it easy for a day or two still to be sure I don't have a concussion you know? Last time I had one it took a few days for the symptoms to show up and so I'm just watching out for it now since I hit the ground pretty hard. Feel free to PM me if you need more information. I'm not planning on leaving for good (though I'll probably have to if I do have a concussion) just skipping my turn this time. I'm sorry for holding it up for so long. I'll let you know in a couple days whether or not I have one)
