Hey question for anybody.
Why do you follow your religion? Is it because you actually believe all of it or is it just because you were born into it? What church do you think is the "true" church and if you were introduced now to it (like you hadn't been your whole life) would you still think the same

What church do you think is the "true" church and if you were introduced now to it (like you hadn't been your whole life) would you still think the same Well I wouldn't follow it if I didn't believe it, so yes I do believe it. I've recently come back to my faith after a bit of rebellion and doing some pretty bad stuff, but I am working to improve myself and strengthen my faith. As for what the "true" church is, I can't really answer. I'm personally Baptist, so I follow those beliefs and they feel the most right to me, but I'm not sure if that's what you meant, so... ^^; as for if I wasn't raised in it... I wouldn't know, as like Jess said, I'd be a different person with different thoughts and ideas. So it's impossible to say for certain. I would like to think that if the right people came into my life I would, but again, it's impossible to know for sure.

What church do you think is the "true" church and if you were introduced now to it (like you hadn't been your whole life) would you still think the same I'll take one question at a time.
There's this whole belief going around that you're only the religion you are because that's what you were born into. But this is just stupid; I meet converts from various religions all the time. Some are converts from one Christian denomination to another, from agnosticism to Catholicism, Hindu to atheism, etc. If this statement were true, nobody would ever convert. But people do feel emptiness or lack of satisfaction with the faith they were raised in: most of the times, it's because it doesn't answer the questions they have, or perhaps not in a way they agree with.
I was raised in a Catholic home. My parents are devout: Mass was always priority on Sunday, we observed liturgical seasons like Advent and Lent, abstained from meat on Fridays, etc. I'm luck in that respect. A lot of supposedly Catholic kids are born into homes with Catholic parents, but their parents never made an effort to make it a lifestyle in the home. So they never really learned much about the faith they were told they identified as. I see this quite a lot: peers my age who see themselves as ""culturally"" Catholic (whatever that means), or say stuff like "yeah I'm Catholic but I don't agree with some of its teachings" (an oxymoron).
The thing is...yes, I had devout parents, but I was exposed to plenty of other religions. I was never sheltered in a "Catholic bubble" in that regard. My childhood friends were protestant and agnostic. As I approached my teen years, I grew more analytical and curious. There came a point when my parents were only responsible for exposing me to Catholicism: whether or not I remained so was entirely my choice. There's plenty of Christians now that follow their faith blindly, accepting whatever they're told, and unfortunately they give the rest of us a bad rep. I am not Catholic because my parents raised me that way, and thus only because it is a familiar way of life. Rather, I am Catholic because I believe with full conviction that it speaks nothing but the truth, a conclusion I reached via my own work. This is because it has proven to satisfactorily answer every question I have ever had; whenever there was doubt, there was two thousand years of doctrines from minds greater than my own to lead me to their own logical conclusion. And y'all know me, I'm all about logical reasoning. I think that's why I love Catholicism so much. It doesn't rely on emotional reasoning in order to be content with what is preaches. It has its own unique philosophy. One doesn't have to be emotionally involved in order to understand-- it clearly lays out an A --> B explanation for why it teaches what it preaches. (Edit: I'm pretty sure this is why I'm so big on apologetics)
As for whether I believe it to be the one true Church...I think my feelings on that are obvious by now, lol. The Catholic Church has four chief tenants of truth: One, Holy, Catholic (Universal), and Apostolic. We do not believe that any other Church has the complete fullness of truth. There's only one.
It's kinda interesting that you mention what it'd be like if I wasn't a cradle Catholic. My sister-in-law is going through RCIA right now (i.e. formal conversion, which requires a year of study of theology). She comes from an evangelical household, mostly raised by her grandmother's faith. I don't think my approach or feelings would be any different whether I was cradle or convert. Mostly because of how I came to have such strong conviction in its truth (i.e. personal reasoning).

What church do you think is the "true" church and if you were introduced now to it (like you hadn't been your whole life) would you still think the same If I didn't have a religion or faith or something, then I would be even more depressed than I was in middle school and part of high school. I was raised Catholic, but never fully understood it. And that mixed with bad events from the past got me away to something that I prefer to not talk about. And because of my previous answer, I can't give you an answer to your "true" church question, since I'm torn between the two. So...yeah. I have no idea if I would think the same if I was introduced to it now.

What church do you think is the "true" church and if you were introduced now to it (like you hadn't been your whole life) would you still think the same Though I was exposed all my life to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Mormons) by my parents, eventually I found out that what I was being taught was true through personal study, praying, fasting, and spiritual experiences. I grew up where being Mormon was not the majority in the slightest- I have been constantly surrounded by and associating with various beliefs, faiths, and lifestyles. I can say that I didn't know of a surety that this was where I belonged until my late high school years, when I started to get committed to strengthening what little faith I had and striving to make it stronger- and also when I started to build my own testimony instead of relying on my parent's. So though I was born into it, it was a conscious decision on my part to continue living the gospel that my parents have taught me to live at a young age. I follow my religion because I know that God loves me. And not cause people say so, but because I've prayed and received a confirmation to my soul that it's true. I also had an extremely spiritual experience, the strongest in my entire life actually, while being given a blessing by one of our Priesthood holders, and I cannot deny it. This and several other spiritual experiences have convinced me that the church I am in right now is where I need to be, and that I should strive to become what God wants me to become through its teachings. On the topic of the "true" church, I think that there are many religions throughout the world that teach "truth". But I do think that some churches/religions have more truth than others, and that the church I am a part of has all the truth- or all the truth that God has allowed us to know at this present moment. Plus it depends on the timeline. If you were to ask me during the times of Abraham who to affiliate with, it would be with Abraham and his household. If you were to ask me during the times of Moses, it would be with the Israelites. Whoever at the time that had prophets and leaders who had the authority to gain guidance from God during their lives would be who I guess the "true" church would be, or at least the one who God would want us to be a part of in order to receive the necessary ordinances during that timeline as well as receive the maximum amount of blessings.

I was born to it, but I have my own personal testimony of both God and the Book of Mormon. I could share it, if anyone cares. But I truly believe it is right and true.

What church do you think is the "true" church and if you were introduced now to it (like you hadn't been your whole life) would you still think the same I see you've deleted your account and that other people already have better answers than me but I'm going to answer this anyway I believe that Christianity is simply the most rational and logical worldview. It best explains, in my humblé opinion, everything we observe about the universe, history, and the state of humanity. I think I've got a few links on the front page about all of that. I'm too lazy/tired/incoherent/take your pick to outline it all atm. Beyond that, cliche though it may sound, I've seen what Christ has done in my life and in the world around me, and I rather like it. I do believe it all, 100%. I believe that the true church is an "invisible church", made up of all believers in Christ from all sorts of different Christian churches. Shad is going to fight me on that in a moment, so just wait for that.
