Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
Basu’s eyes widened as Earl got up, surprise flickering across his face. Was Earl worried about him? All because Basu had suggested he might have a fever instead of simply blushing like a normal person. Instantly a wave of guilt came crashing over the leopon boy. He hadn’t meant to make Earl worry, he’d simply...Well he’d been embarrassed that his boyfriend made him blush and got called out on it. When he thought about it, The whole ordeal seemed rather silly now.
In that moment something clicked for the son of Bagheera and Vitani, and for the first time in his life he actually realized just how pathetically ridiculous his antics were when it came to embarrassment. Out of all the ridiculous things he had accomplished in his life, most stemmed from an innate need to run from embarrassment in one way or another. Such as hiding his embarrassment through prickly nonsense, like claiming he had meant to fall into a bucket full of paint and then proceed to cover himself with that paint to prove his point, or claim to have a fever instead of admitting to simply blushing. Or literally running and hiding from embarrassment, like escaping to the top of the fridge after getting stuck up on top a tree on the school grounds for everyone to see, or literally leaving for the Isle after watching a video of himself dancing and singing in a retro track suit. True story there, that is quite literally the reason he ended up on the Isle, Bala still thought she had convinced him finally and got him to see her point of view. Bala was wrong.
No matter what he did though, in that moment it all seemed rather foolish now that he had a chance to look back on it all. So despite himself, despite knowing that he had worried Earl, Basu laughed. His laugh, though cat like and sharp, echoed in the room as he made his way from random bursts of laughter to controlled chuckling, to the laughter dying out. ”Sorry, I shouldn’t be laughing...It’s just that I realized how silly it is,” Basu explained, a smile on his face. ”I don’t have a fever, Earl, and I’m sorry I worried you. I was just embarrassed that you had caught me blushing, and it’s so stupid, because I shouldn’t have even had reason to be embarrassed because you’re my boyfriend and you’ll probably see me blush a lot, yet I was embarrassed anyways and tried to cover it up,” Basu explained, looking over at Earl. ”Then once I realized I had worried you, I realized how stupid it was for me to do that,” the leopon finished, shaking his head slightly.
Of all the things to say, he jumped right to having a fever of all things. It really was ridiculous now that he thought about it. Basu was sure he’d still find embarrassment in many things, but of all the things to be embarrassed about, blushing in front of his boyfriend shouldn’t be one of them.

Earl Fisi son of ed and kijana
All that mattered to Earl right now was Basu’s health. He had been extremely worried when Basu had ran into the wall and now he was all the more worried about this blushing fever. The hyena-jackal had never heard anything like it. Was it because it was so deadly that nobody lived to tell the tale? This thought made the son of Ed and Kijana freeze up. His throat went dry and his heart shuddered against his chest. Would Basu die from this? He didn’t want his new boyfriend to die...he wanted Basu to be healthy and to live for as long as he possibly could. There was no way Earl was about to let some blushing fever kill Basu.
As he was no doctor Earl was quick to think about Tara. Yeah, she wasn’t a doctor either, but she had helped earlier and that was what mattered. She seemed competent enough to deal with injuries, and Earl really looked up to her. He didn’t feel anything toward her like he did with Basu, but he admired her a lot. She was strong and a really good shark wrestler. Earl wanted to be just like her when he grew up because being Tara would be cool. But that was beside the point. Right now he just needed the crocodile girl to tend to his Basu so that the leopon could heal and not die from his blushing fever. What stopped him from leaving the room was the sharp laugh. He wasn’t laughing. He didn’t laugh like that when he was sad. Then the realization hit him when he turned to look at his boyfriend. Basu was the one laughing.
Earl cocked his head to the side. Basu was laughing? But Basu was dying from a fever blush, that was no time for laughing.
Wow, who would have ever thought a hyena would think it was no time for laughing?
Without so much as batting an eye Earl rushed over to Basu, yellow eyes alight with worry. Was spontaneous laughter a symptom of his fever blush? Maybe Basu needed some water. Did Earl even have water in here? There was the ocean, but that water always made Earl throw up after drinking it, so maybe that wasn’t a good idea right now. The last thing Basu needed was more hacking up.
Some of the concern washed away when Basu spoke up. Earl was now sitting next to him with a wide-eyed look on his face. ”So you’re not dying?” He asked with hope laced in his words. ”You’re not going to die because of a fever?” Happiness started worming its way inside of the hyena, making him tremble with excitement. The canine leaned forward and nuzzled up against his boyfriend. Between this and being glad his boyfriend wasn’t dying, a deep and rumbling noise came from the hyena-jackal. He wasn’t even aware of the noise, all that mattered to him right now was that Basu was okay and that he wasn’t actually going to die right here and right now.

Bala Vira Singh Daughter of Bagheera & Vitani
Bala watched as Jenny sprung into action, greenish-yellow eyes following along the short girl as she got ready. By now Bala was more than used to her roommate’s rabbit like behavior. After all, they weren’t just roommates on the Isle, but had also been them on Auradon as well. Of course back on Auradon there was also Honoka, but she hadn’t come to the Isle with them. Now, Bala still firmly believed that she was doing the right thing in coming to the Isle and certainly didn’t want to leave. However, she did have to admit that Honoka was pretty lucky, she had gone from having two roommates to having none. Meanwhile there were just under twenty kids staying in this one shack alone. Things got pretty crowded awfully fast.
”Right, I’ll go get him then,” Bala said at last as she turned to leave, her hand on the doorframe as she lingered for just a second longer. Part of Bala wanted to ask Jenny just why there was some strange pirate here to see her. But instead she held back. That wasn’t really any of her business right now anyways, maybe later today, after school, Bala could find Jenny again and ask her about it in a way that didn’t appear too much like she was prying for information. Yeah, she could do that. Now just wasn’t the time.
With that in mind, Bala walked back out and towards the “main room” of the shack, where the strange pirate was still trapped in a one sided conversation with Tierney.
”So then, I was like ‘I’m gonna lick that sand’ and then he was like ‘Tierney, don’t do that! You’ll get worms!’ And I’m like, ‘So what? I’m a bird, birds eat worms, I’ll be fine,’” Bala entered the main room just in time to hear the last bit of the conversation, with Tierney animatedly filling the pirate in on his adventure. ”So anyways, after that I totally licked the sand. Did you guys know that your sand tastes way different than Auradonian sand? I was like ‘wow’ from it all,” Tierney finished, taking one last large gulp of his soda can, his head nodding slowly along.
Bala held back snickers. The poor Isle boy seemed a little lost and mildly concerned on Tierney’s behave. Bala would be lying if she said she wasn’t as well. However she already had two boys she was looking after here on the Isle, she couldn’t afford to take on another one, not that she still wouldn’t try to help Tierney if he ever needed it, of course.
”Sorry if I’m interrupting anything,” Bala interjected as soon as she was close enough, looking from Tierney to the pirate. ”I just thought I should let you know that Jenny’s in the back and I’m supposed to take you back to see her,” Bala explained to the native Isle boy.
He paused for a second. ”Oh, alright, lead the way,” He said, gesturing for Bala to start them off, which she did, beginning back towards the room she shared with Jenny - and many other girls - with the pirate in tow. ”I’ll have to catch the rest of that story another time, Tierney, was it?” the pirate asked, shooting a look back towards the penguin man in farewell before he followed Bala as she lead him back to the room she had just come from.
Once they got there, Bala pushed the door open for them both to walk inside. ”Hey Jenny? I brought the guy, like you asked,” Bala called out to the room, glancing back at the pirate for a second.

Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
Once Basu had calmed down from laughing over his own stupidity, he seemed to mellow out again, shaking his head to confirm that no, he hadn’t been about to die form a blushing fever. ”No, I’m not. Not yet anyways.” He was still convinced that something on the Isle would eventually kill him. Kakamora, concussions, chocolate deprivation, maybe ravenous, bloodthirsty squirrels...something like that. But blushing was not on that list. Honestly he should have just been outright about it, instead of causing Earl to worry like that. ”I’m sorry that I worried you,” he apologized quietly, not haven’t meant to cause his new boyfriend to worry like that.
When Earl nuzzled up against him, Basu accepted the cuddles warmly, wrapping an arm around his boyfriend in an attempt to pull him even closer as he rested his head on Earl’s. Was it still a bit ridiculous, to have gotten together with the hyena-jackal boy within three days of knowing him? Probably, especially with how cuddly they already seemed to be with each other, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Basu wouldn’t change it, that was for sure.
He would have been content to stay like that for even longer when a noise, rumbling and deep, came from Earl. Basu paused, lifting his head for a moment or so. ”Earl,” he started, voice soft. ”Do you hear that?” He asked, his lips already curving upwards in a smile. ”I’m not purring...” Hd added, hoping that Earl would catch on to the noise, and that if it wasn’t coming from Basu himself, there could only be one person it came from. He couldn’t help but feel rather victorious as well. He had helped Earl realize he could purr in the first place, and now here he was, even if it came from Earl originally worrying about Basu and thinking he might die from a blushing fever.
However this made Basu realize something else. Earl must have been rather worried about him if he was so ready to take Basu back to the doctor’s just because of a fever. The thought alone filled Basu with both warmth and guilt. He shouldn’t have made his boyfriend worry like that...Though he hadn’t thought Earl would worry in the first place. Basu wasn’t entirely sure what he thought would happen. Maybe Earl would shrug it off, or simply not care. But he hadn’t, instead Earl had worried and genuinely seemed to care. Basu wasn’t sure what to make of that. Basu’s eyes met the floor. ”You were really that worried about me?” He questioned softly, unsure if Earl had even picked up on the question.

Earl Fisi son of ed and kijana
The confirmation from Basu himself that he wasn’t going to die relieved the hyena-jackal. The relief almost made him fall limp right then and there, but he was able to keep himself up as he was cuddled up against his boyfriend. ”I don’t want you to ever die,” he murmured, closing his eyes for a moment as he got himself comfortable right there against the leopon. Having Basu as a boyfriend was wonderful, it meant nonstop cuddles. Why had it taken him this long to get a boyfriend? If he had known boyfriends meant endless cuddles he would have had one a long time ago. Oh well, he was beyond glad to have Basu now, and it wasn’t like he had never gotten cuddles before. They had just been harder to come by before now.
Cuddled up against the transfer student, Earl was still unaware that he was letting out a deep and rumbly noise from the back of his throat and deep from within his chest. The vibrations were there, but he was sure it was coming from the son of Bagheera and Vitani, not from him. He would have continued believing that had Basu not said anything about it. Earl’s dull yellow eyes stretched wide as his boyfriend’s comment clicked and realization dawned on him. If it wasn't Basu who was purring then it had to be him. Was he really purring? Was he really doing it? While his excitement turned his purr into a whooping laugh of excitement, he had no doubt in his mind that what Basu had said was true. ”I did it, ahahaha! I can purr, Basu! You made me, haha, purr!” He could not wait to tell the other hyenas later. Maybe then he could teach them how to purr as well. The thought of his entire family being able to purr made the hyena-jackal more than happy.
Earl’s excitement stayed with him. He tilted his head and leaned forward, rubbing his head against Basu’s jawline and cheek more like what a cat would do rather than a dog. He probably would have started purring once more, but his interest was piqued when the transfer spoke up. He pulled his head away from Basu’s cheek, looking up into his chocolate brown gaze until that gaze fell to the floor. There was no hesitation from the canine when he nodded in response to the question. He had barely heard it, but his somewhat large ears had been able to pick it up and decipher it well enough to understand what Basu had asked. Hearing soft sounds was a perk of being an animal kid. ”Yeah, yeah. I don’t want you to die, Basu, eheh,” he chuckled nervously. ”I’ll make sure you’re always okay, and I won’t let a blushing fever kill you. I’ll kill it before it can kill you!” He exclaimed while puffing out his chest like some confident kid. If some blushing fever tried to take his Basu away from him then he would fight it off before it could hurt the leopon. There was no way Earl was going to let something harm his boyfriend, not on his watch, not ever.

Jenny Wilde daughter of nick and judy
Jenny had no idea how long she had until Bala brought Hal back to the room. She could have anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. This spurred the little girl to work as fast as she could, but to also make sure she was efficient as well. There was no way she would let something slip up during a session, especially one with Hal. The daughter of Nick and Judy had talked with a lot of people before, had comforted a good amount of friends and acquaintances over all sorts of things, but Hal had to be her very first "patient" that had such extreme symptoms. Everything had to be perfect, nothing could be out of place. This had to seem as professional as she could make it.
It was a rare occurrence for the rabbit-fox girl to make her bed up. She typically kept the covers in a big messy pile of a nest where she would just curl up inside it when she was ready for bed. Her blankets were reminiscent to that of a rabbit's burrow or a fox's den, secure and warm with one small hole for her if she needed to get out. She even slept like a fox, all curled up in a ball. Sometimes she could be found stretched out and rolled over onto her side like a rabbit, but she took more after her father when it came to sleeping habits. She was reluctant to mess up her perfect nest, but her bed needed to be made if she was going to offer Hal to sit on it he wished.
Just as she finished that up she caught sound of Bala returning with an extra pair of footsteps following.
The transfer turned, green eyes glinting with welcome. "Come on in," she chirped, motioning for Hal to step inside. She offered Bala a smile. "Thanks for bringing him in. I'd say you could come in, too, but..." She glanced over at the pirate for a moment, hoping Bala got the idea. These conversations were private. Jenny hated telling people to leave, but she had to for something like this. Sessions had to always be private, just between herself and the person she was trying to help.
"You can sit wherever you like," she told Hal as she went over to grab her journal and the pen that was attached to it. "There's not much, but there's the bed and the floor if you're more comfortable there." Man, this would be so much better if she had a plate of cookies or something to offer. Or even blueberries. Maybe blueberry cookies. That would be nice to have for sessions, but alas, she was unable to procure such items right now. She would have to make sure to make some the moment she got back home to Auradon so that Hal and everybody else from the Isle could have some.

Henry Algernon Hook Son of Captain Hook & Red Jessica
Hal smiled awkwardly at Jenny, standing in the doorway as if he was unsure what to do. Maybe he shouldn’t have come, maybe this was a bad idea after all. For a split second, Hal wondered if he could slip away without anyone noticing. However that was quickly pushed aside once he realized what a stupid plan that was. Not only was he already here, in front of Jenny, brought to her by another transfer, but the rest of the shack was crawling with kids from Auradon. There would be no way for him to sneak off. He had already arrived, he might as well deal with it.
By now the other girl had left, leaving Hal alone with Jenny. He cleared his throat a little, walking inside. ”I don’t mean to intrude or anything, if you’re busy I can just go,” he told her, glancing back towards the door. What had he been thinking? Coming here like this just to what, to talk to some rabbit-fox girl stranger? She had been willing to listen yesterday, that did not mean things would be the same today. Even more than that, why did he think he could just come here out of the blue in the first place? This had really been done in poor thinking, or rather: no thinking at all. Hal had been desperate to talk to someone, to calm down in the company of someone else, but now that he was here, he couldn’t help but wonder if this was a good idea to begin with.
Hal turned to leave, extending a hand out to reach for the doorframe. ”This was stupid, I should just go,” he muttered out loud. ”Sorry for bothering you,” Hal said, glancing back at Jenny for only a moment before he moved to leave again, lingering in the doorframe as if unsure if he should really go or stay, even after saying he would leave. Something in the back of his mind forced him to stay, planting his feet in the ground and refusing to let him leave, no matter how much he thought he needed to go.

Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
Basu smiled at Earl once he saw how happy the hyena-jackal seemed to be, now that he had purred and realized it as well. The purr had already turned into a laugh fit for a hyena by now, but it had been there and Basu had heard it. He let out a small laugh to accompany Earl’s. ”I knew you could do it,” he told his new boyfriend, pride swelling in his chest. He had helped Earl do that. Or at least he had confirmed to Earl that he could indeed purr, which seemed to open Earl up to the idea of him even being able to purr, which could have brought it on in the first place.
While Earl celebrated his first purr, Basu’s thoughts had begun to wander. The only thing pulling him from his thoughts again was Earl, confirming that yes he cared, yes he had been that worried, and no, Earl wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Basu looked back up at him for a few moments, remembering something Earl had said the day before. He had wanted to meet Bala and Basu had avoided it like the plague. Would it really be so bad to have the two meet? After all, Bala might sometimes be a bit obnoxious but she was his sister and he would do anything for her, and Earl was his boyfriend and he was sure Bala would want to meet him. Khari too, probably.
This gave him an idea. ”Hey Earl, do you want to meet my family? Well, the two that came here with me?” Basu asked, already getting more excited the longer he thought about it. The leopon boy smiled at Earl. ”My sister, Bala, and my cousin, Khari. They’re here with me. We could find them at the shack, you could meet them!” he suggested, another smile spreading across is face as Basu got up to his feet.
Now was no time for cuddles anymore. Now was the time to introduce family to boyfriend and although Basu had originally thought against it, that was before they were together. Earl was great, and he deserved to meet Basu’s family, just as he was sure they would like to meet him.
Though...Perhaps it would be a good idea to prepare them first. After all, Bala could be a little protective when she hadn’t had time to think things through. Introducing her to Earl right off the bat might not be the best idea. Basu frowned for a moment or so. They could figure it out. Maybe Basu could go back to the shack to see if they’re there first and then bring both Bala and Khari back to the ship if they were there. Yeah, that would work. ”I could go get them, bring them here for you to meet,” he suggested, looking back to Earl. By now Basu was excited for this. He may not be sure on much, and this was all rather new to him, but he knew for sure that he wanted Earl, Bala, and Khari to meet.

Malahkai Marchendrache was a man with a plan.
It hadn't come to him over night, or over the course of the last few days or even weeks. This wasn't a decision made on impulse; the plan itself was ambitious and well thought out, something that was months in the making. Hell, years even - if you could consider the pipe dreams of a seven year old a grand plan. It was only recently that Kai, now an eighteen year old villain with more ambition than common sense, had begun to refine the details of his long-lost childhood desires. Taking back his childhood home had always been something he'd hoped to accomplish. The tales his mother told him of her once great Fortress, combined with the horror stories of her downfall and the need for revenge called upon by the boy's own insatiable pride had fueled these ideas for as long as he could remember. The thought of returning to the crumbling remains of the home he'd never known was tantalizing. And it, paired with his mother's gentle urging had sealed the deal on the matter.
Now, after months of brain storming and planning, Kai had decided that enough was enough. It was time to recruit a co-pilot and get the ball rolling on the long-coming rise of the Marchendrache family- and who better to ask than his very own twin brother?
Kai found the object of his interest sitting at their breakfast table, enjoying a morning meal of something that resembled a hearty portion of Isle slop. Yum. Rolling his green eyes heavenwards, the boy strolled forwards and into the kitchen, not bothering to beat around the bush. "March, we're going on an adventure." Said Kai, pulling up a chair and spinning it around so that he could sit on it backwards. For a few moments he sat like that, arms crossed over the back of the chair, watching out the window hole in the wall opposite the breakfast table. Today was going to be a good day, he could feel it. After glancing towards his brother's breakfast once more and almost dry heaving at the sight of the jiggly glob -and wishing more than anything that he could provide his brother with a real meal, even if just for once- Kai shoved the plate away from them both and slammed his hand down on the table in the same place the broken china had rested just moments before.
"Picture this, little bro." All of a sudden one arm was slung over his brother's shoulders as Kai squeezed in close, and the other was swept dramatically in front of them as he stared dramatically off into the distance. "You, me, a whole Forbidden Fortress at our fingertips. We go in, clear it out, and we live like Kings - after all, we are practically royalty." Lost within his own little fantasy, he let out a soft and dreamy sigh. He could see his grand plan coming together in his mind, could picture power being restored to his family and the wrongs they'd suffered for so many years righted. The first step was taking back their home - from there, they'd work on breaking the seal that rendered magic useless to them. And then... "The Marchendrache name will be something again, and those Auradon pricks will rue the day they ever banished our Mother to this godforsaken Isle. If the old crow doesn't appreciate that, well...we throw her off of the tower. Once she can enter it again, that is." A dark rumble of a laugh emitted from the Marchendrache boy's chest, and he slapped his brother heartily on the back.
"C'mon, Marchie! Whadda'ya say?"

Earl Fisi son of ed and kijana
He had done it. He had done something he had thought almost impossible, or rather, something he had thought about five minutes ago to not be possible for hyenas. He had always tried to purr but had never been able to accomplish that. Now with the help of Basu he had been able to do it. He could purr now. Perhaps it was something he could only do when he wasn’t really thinking about it. Perhaps that was the key to Earl’s purr. Get happy, don’t think about purring, profit.
In not thinking about thinking about purring Earl had almost lost what Basu had said.
The hyena perked up, blinking his dull yellow eyes as he tried to gather what the leopon had just said through context clues. Even in his air-headed brain he was able to figure out soon enough what Basu was suggesting. A large smile spread across his face, those dull eyes brightening up with enough excitement to fill the entire ship with a warm light. Basu wanted him to see his family? Hadn’t he been reluctant about Earl meeting Bala some time back? Oh, that didn’t matter anymore. Earl didn’t care about that, what he cared about was the prospect of meeting the Auradon family of Basu’s that had come to the Isle with him.
If he had a tail he would be wagging it with great fervor right about now. ”Yeah, yeah, yeah, ahaha!” He followed Basu up to his feet, jumping up and down like an excited puppy. ”Should I bring them some bones?” Earl asked as he rushed over to his collection and grabbed a few of the bones from the pile. He looked them over as if gauging their worth. Eh, ribs were cool, but he felt like a family member of Basu’s could use something not as common, something that was a bit harder to find. Something that wasn’t as abundant in the body as ribs were. ”Ah!” He cried out when he decided what he wanted to bring with him; Earl reached down and let go of the rib only to pick up a small sacrum bone and then a sternum bone. Pleased with these two, he turned back to Basu with that huge smile still painted over his face. ”I’m ready, aha!”
With his gifts in tow, the canine went ahead and hopped over to the door, waiting for Basu to tag along. He hadn’t thought about Basu’s family coming over to the ship, but if that was what his boyfriend wanted then Earl was more than willing to do that.
The hyena-jackal nodded with that pure excitement he had felt the moment Basu had brought the idea up. ”Yeah, yeah! I’ll wait here, or should I come with you?” He added as a concerning thought came to mind; what if when Basu was going to get his family the Kakamora came back? He wouldn’t have anybody there to fight with him. Perhaps it would be best if Earl tagged along.

Jenny Wilde daughter of nick and judy
To be completely honest Jenny was excited that Hal had decided to come to her. Actually, she was more than excited, she was ecstatic. If he had come to her then that meant what she had told him yesterday had stuck in his mind, had made something of a difference. That was one reason why she had come to the Isle, to make a difference. All her life she had been told horror stories of the Isle, how the kids there were just as bloodthirsty and murderous as their parents, but Jenny had never believed it. Her own mother had never believed it either; of all people to not judge someone based on what they were or who they were it would be Judy, and she had in turn instilled that belief in her daughter and in all of her children. When the opportunity to go to the Isle had come forth Jenny had made sure to be the first one to sign up. If anybody had been excited for this chance it had been her, and poor Akram, he had to endure hours of the little fox-bunny talking about how excited she was. There had even been nights when the little boofox hadn’t been able to sleep so she would go to texting Akram about all sorts of things she found exciting and interesting. ”My mom knew this one fox, Gideon Grey, when she was growing up. He was a big bully, but redeemed himself. Ma said he had made the best blueberry pies, but Beast threw him to the Isle. He apparently has a daughter! I can’t wait to meet her.” And then not even two minutes later she would sent another text with something like - ”Fennick was an old friend of my dad’s that got sent to the Isle for the same reasons my dad would have had he not been with my mom. He has a daughter, too, and I bet she’s a delight to be around!” Yeah, Akram had to deal with that for weeks. The poor guy still had to deal with her excitement about it all even on the Isle. If anything her happiness about this all had increased tenfold since the ship had docked on the Isle, and even more so now that she actually had somebody who wanted her to help them.
The moment Hal mentioned that he could just leave the transfer shook her head. He was in no way intruding on anything. ”No, no,” Jenny started, offering him a friendly smile in hopes that he would stay. She couldn’t force him to be here and talk with her, but she wanted him to know that no matter what she was here for him. ”You’re not bothering anybody here. I know the shack isn’t the most inviting place, but unless you really want to go, you can stay. There’s nothing wrong with you being here.” She wanted him to know that he was more than welcome here, but he also had a choice in whether he stayed or left. Jenny wasn’t going to keep him here, though even as he attempted to walk out of the bedroom he was hesitant. It was a sign that deep down he really didn’t want to leave, or at least something was keeping him there.

Henry Algernon Hook Son of Captain Hook & Red Jessica
The urge to go was strong. Part of Hal wanted to leave even after Jenny had reassured him that he could stay. For a little over a year now, he hadn’t really talked to anyone about...well, about any of this. He had done a fine job of locking himself away from the rest of the Isle. The only person he had seen at all had been Tara, and that was only because she refused to leave him be. Not after the incident, six months prior.
Hal closed his eyes for a moment as the memories came rushing back to him, flooding him over in such a way he could not control it. For a moment it was as if he was there in the water again, there had been a sense of panic somewhere deep in his chest, however he had ignored it and instead let himself be taken by the water. That had almost been it for him, and it surely would have, had it not been for Tara.
The daughter of Tick Tock Croc had dove into the water as soon as she had seen and pulled him back out. Hal had awoken on the sandy, filthy docks of the Isle, soaked and covered in sand. They had fought about it, after that, and since then Tara had made sure to check up on him. Sometimes she would even bring her son. For around six months, Tara, Tony, and Hal’s own father had been the only people he had spoken to, the only ones he had interacted with for over half a year.
Now suddenly, within the last few days, Hal had been forced back out into the world again, and a part of him wished for nothing more than to return to his solitary life, to once again lock himself up and refuse to leave and instead let himself be engulfed back up into the darkness, heavy and burdening, almost as if he was drowning again, despite the utter lack of any water.
The thought was tempting, Hal would admit that. It was the easier option out of the ones he was currently faced with. However, he was already here, he had already made it this far. He might as well stick around, just for today. If he decided that this was a bad idea at some point, he could leave and then he could lock himself away again. That seemed like a fair compromise to him.
So, Hal lowered his hand from the doorframe, a sigh escaping him as his shoulders relaxed. ”Alright,” he said after what must have been a good few minutes of silence. ”If you’re sure that it’s alright, I...I was hoping I could talk to you,” he admitted, turning back around to face Jenny, stepping back inside the room. He hesitant for a moment before moving to go sit down on the bed, staring down at the floor. ”Yesterday, you said if I wanted to talk, you would listen. If that offer still stands, I think...I think I would like to talk now,” he explained quietly, eyes glancing around the floor of the room. A small part of him still urged to him leave, telling him that this was not a good idea. However for now, Hal ignored that small voice. Maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t hurt to finally talk to someone. After all, he had a lot that he could talk about. None of which was good.

Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
Basu watched as Earl rushed over to his collection of bones, an amused smile resting upon his face. Neither Khari or Bala would likely care for the bones, and honestly, Basu tried his best not to think about the bones in the first place, because it got a little creepy, but it was nice to see that Earl was clearly excited about meeting Basu’s twin sister and his cousin. Before, Basu had been worried that if Earl met Bala, he’d realize that Basu was clearly the inferior twin and join Bala’s growing army of friends, but he wasn’t quite so worried about that anymore.
If Earl liked Basu well enough to date him, he would likely stick around even after meeting the better twin. Which took a lot of the worry from before off Basu’s shoulders. However, it didn’t take it all away. For example, what would Bala and Khari both think of Basu’s new boyfriend? It would be better to ease them into it, give them a warning beforehand that they were going to go meet Earl instead of just spring it on them once they got to the shack. He could just imagine the kind of stress that would cause to show up the shack so suddenly and announce to his family that he had found a boyfriend, and here he was.
No, it was better to play this safe and give them some time to think about it all before they met Earl face to face. A few minutes should be plenty of time. ”I think you should probably stay...I don’t know how they’ll react if I take you back with me, this gives them some time to prepare,” Basu explained, looking away from the hyena-jackal. Basu at least was willing to give his twin and his cousin some time to think about this before throwing Earl at them. They deserved a little preparation. Basu knew that he could’ve used some preparation before meeting Earl for the first time, he could at least give that to his family from Auradon.
However...There were still coconuts out there, and Basu wasn’t quite ready to deal with those again, not for the second day in a row. Numbers were the safer option when traveling through Kakamora territory. Having Earl tag along would give them a better fighting chance if they did run into any of those coconut kid pests. ”Hmm, what if you walked with me half of the way? Until we’re out of Kakamora territory, and then you can wait while I go get them to introduce to you?” Basu suggested after a moment, hoping that plan would work well enough for everyone involved.

It wasn't surprising that her brother wanted to go riding - all of the important moments in their lives seemed to happen on horseback. And this was important, she could feel it. If it wasn't, her brother wouldn't have bothered getting her out of bed this early in the morning.
"Bless your heart, boy." The blonde said, cracking a smile at her brother's concerned, almost parental tone. "Shoes only slow me down." With a wicked grin in his direction, she brought her fingers to her mouth and emitted a high-pitch whistle, the sound echoing across the empty field. A hand over her eyes shielded them from the sun as Jo gazed off towards the horizon, searching for the familiar shape of her majestic runaway. Alaska came trotting up from the far side within a few moments, and Jo -ever the showoff, courtesy of growing up in the shadow of a handful of brothers- took off at a run, meeting and overtaking the horse, swinging up onto the animal with ease. When she landed neatly on the back of her furry friend, a victory bell went off in the back of Jo's mind. She tightened her legs around Alaska's middle, fingers tangling gently within the wild grey-ish white mane as she steadied herself. It was all done in one smooth motion, but the act had taken years to perfect- lots of practice and patience, trial and error, a lot of bruises and tears. Bareback riding was one of the most difficult things imaginable, but it was rewarding - the unwavering trust she sensed from Alaska, the bond the two of them had developed, it was unlike anything she'd ever experienced.
The white mare pawed at the ground and then galloped in a large circle - it was their standard greeting, and Jo rewarded the behavior with a gentle pat to the mare's neck and a scratch behind the ears. "Mornin', girl." She cooed, rubbing Alaska's neck vigorously. With a glance towards her brother and a huge, sh*it-eating grin, Jo nudged Alaska in that direction. She curled her toes slightly, trying to keep the smugness out of her voice as she teased, "C'mon, boy. You said we're goin' ridin'."

Kimberly Alexis Slim Son of Alameda Slim & Katherine Barlow
One second Jo was by him and the next she was racing off towards Alaska. Tex watched as Jo mounted herself on her horse with enough dramatic flare to rival a Grimhilde. Tex raised his brow, looking to Ace with an incredulous look. ”Can you believe this?” He questioned, gesturing towards Jo and Alaska as he spoke to Ace. The horse couldn’t talk to him of course, but Tex often felt as if his connection with Ace went beyond words. They didn’t need to talk out loud to communicate and understand each other.
Ace neighed in response, giving his head a small shake as if to confirm that he couldn’t believe what he was seeing either.
Tex smiled softly at Ace, patting his neck. See? No talking needed. He and Ace understood each other, words had never been the problem.
Turning his attention back to Jo and Alaska, Tex watched as his sister came over on top of her horse, the smuggest little grin on her face. Tex rolled his eyes. ”If you’re done barkin’ at a knot, can we go now?” He asked her teasingly as he got up on his own horse with much less of a dramatic flare than Jo had. Though, in Tex’s defense, neither he nor Ace were the type to go out of their way just to look cool or anything like that.
Now on his saddle, Tex took the reins and started Ace off towards a path in the Outlands. It wasn’t prime riding grounds, however it was the best that the Isle had to offer and Tex would take it. Besides, they needed to ride the horses, they had to be exercised, the Outlands had the best set up for that on the Isle. ”So I’m thinking we start down our usual riding path passed Orc Town ‘n then we can head up a little while, I’ve gotta new path I wanna try out,” Tex explained rather simply. He was a man on a mission and while he hadn’t even gotten to the point he was leading up to yet, riding was also very important and in his mind it had to be taken as seriously as possible.

"Okay," Eric nodded his head slowly in understanding, glancing up at his brother. "Okay, sure." He shuffled outside and made his way back down the hall, scratching nervously at the back of his neck. The room he re-entered was now empty, and he absently wondered where Morrigan had gone off to and in such a short amount of time. Maybe it was for the best that she'd ducked out early - from the looks of things, Eric was about to have a very busy morning. As he dug through the clothes in his closet, looking for something appropriate for his brother, the youngest Grimhilde triplet was at a loss for words. Too shell-shocked to think, really, but not to dwell.
Finally finding a nice, powder-blue shirt that he thought would suit his brother well, Eric ventured back down the hallway. This time he knocked lightly on the door before pushing it open, finding his older brother still standing there shirtless. "Here." He offered up the article of clothing, taking care to keep his gaze from roaming again. It was hard, but he managed to be respectful of his brother's privacy. The last thing he wanted to do was make Eli uncomfortable, but that seemed virtually impossible now. A nagging feeling in the pit of his stomach told Eric that things weren't going to be the same from here on out. Whether that was for the better or worse, he really didn't know just yet...
Now that Eli had his shirt, the only thing transpiring between the two of them was the ever-growing awkward silence. Eric glanced up, trying to find the words to say, the questions to ask - anything to make this make sense, to help him understand. "Elijah, what happened?" His voice was softer now, but also somehow firm. Like it or not, this wasn't something that was going to just go away. How he'd gone this long without learning his brother's secret, Eric didn't know. What the hell kind of brother was he, letting something like this slip under the radar? Shame filled him as he gazed into his brother's eyes. It was like looking into a mirror - every detail the same, down to the very cracks shining through the composure each was barely holding together.

Vanessa Rose son of the caterpillar and white rose Nervous? When had Vanessa Rose ever really felt nervous? Certainly not when he was younger and his father quizzed him about nonsensical, contradicting stories he had told. Absolutely not when his mother forced him to sing along with her choir of human flowers. Perhaps he had felt a little nervous the first time he had tried his father's hookah - though now it seemed tiny compared to his preferred pipe. Vanessa could say he didn't like the feeling of being nervous and yet, just yet, every time it came to his darling and beloved Marlene, it felt like butterflies rising in stomach.
The irony of that statement still hadn't escaped the butterfly-flower hybrid.
On the fact of flowers, Vanessa felt his stomach drop a little. It was a shame flowers couldn't grow properly on the Isle. His mother had so many wonderful tales of flowers and their beauty, often speaking about them while she was sick. Which was unsurprisingly common for a flower person. Vanessa would like to see flowers one day, shame the Isle was supposed to be his home. Better yet, Vanessa would love to gather some pretty flowers and be able to give them to Marlene. He disliked that he couldn't do that.
It would be a nice scenario, Vanessa pondered. To arrive at his girlfriend's door with a bundle of roses - white of course - and greeting her with a smile, and taking her out to a good place to eat for a date. Romantic and all that. Good places to eat and roses didn't exist on the Isle, no offence to any restaurants, however Vanessa was aware that they likely weren't even decent places compared to Auradon. At least, he could try to give her a nice date, impress her, something of the sort.
Which went back to the nerves he was feeling. Standing in front of the door to her place of living, hand hanging in the air, waiting to knock. He dearly hoped she was there. A deep breath and whoops his hand slipped, knock knock knock. Too late to go back so he took a step back and put an easy-going smile on his face, waiting for the door to open.
When his goddess opened the door, his smile turned more into a grin. It was difficult to avoid, but how could he help the reaction whenever he saw her? "Hello lovely, I hope you remembered our date today?"

Earl Fisi son of ed and kijana
This was all very exciting, the prospect of meeting Basu’s family. For Earl at least family meant a lot. He would do anything for Batini and Shomari, would do anything for his not quite blood related family as well such as Nanji or Sanura. They all meant a lot to the hyena-jackal so at the idea of meeting Basu’s family he grew all the more excited. He assumed every family was like his own, tight knit and close. That was the only kind of family he thought possible. Knowing that Basu wanted him to meet some of his Auradon family made him feel special, like he was stepping up in the world, stepping up in Basu’s world. It was all very exciting.
More likely than not Earl was going to absolutely adore his boyfriend’s family. He already wanted to be their friends and take them out on wacky adventures through Serpent Prep’s territory. He would show them the ship, show them Ursula’s place where Arlo worked, he could even show them the little place where his dad lived. Earl blinked at that thought. He hadn't brought Basu over to his father’s place yet. Maybe that would be something to do for another time. Ed didn't live too far from the ship, lived more on the mainland closer to where Scar made his home. Earl had moved to the ship when he had been old enough to fully pledge his allegiance to Sanura, made his home closer to the lioness he served under just like how his father lived close to the lion he served - like father like son as they say.
Earl turned his attention back on Basu when the leopon spoke up. He cocked his head to the side, listening. Dating must be different on Auradon he thought to himself. On the Isle meeting family never seemed to be a big deal. Then again not many of the kids here wanted to associate with their parents let alone have their significant other associate with them unless it was for siblings. While not many kids were close to their parents it was safe to say that many were close to their siblings if they had any, which, more likely than not they did. Siblings were not a rarity on the Isle, that was for sure. Despite it all it did sound a bit weird that Basu wanted to give his family some time to get used to the idea of meeting Earl, but he didn’t question it. His boyfriend was a little odd which only meant that’s how things had to be in Auradon.
The hyena-jackal perked up when the leopon mentioned coming along half way, just until they made it out of Kakamora territory. That sounded like a deal. He nodded. ”Yeah, yeah, I can help fight off any Kakamora that come around, aha! And then if we met some on the way back I can fight them again. I won’t let them hurt you or your family, Basu,” Earl promised firmly. If there was anything he could do it was help protect his new boyfriend and hopefully his newfound friends in Basu’s family.

Jenny Wilde daughter of nick and judy
Silence didn't bother Jenny. She was used to it, and honestly, it was nice to have from time to time. A lot of people found silence to be awkward or terrible, but not this girl. She enjoyed it, especially when she knew somebody needed some time to think over stuff like right now with Hal. Talking to somebody about deep stuff wasn't easy, especially to somebody you didn't know well, somebody who was pretty much a stranger save for you knew their name. Hal was putting an incredible amount of trust into Jenny, he needed these few minutes of silence to think things out. And if he decided he didn't want to talk to her today then that was okay. As long as he knew he could come back when ever he felt the need to talk then this wasn't a loss. Jenny would actually mark it down as a victory. A victory because at least Hal would know that Jenny was here for him no matter what and wouldn't grow angry if he didn't open up about anything.
While she tried to keep herself calm she couldn't stop herself from giving a buck-toothed grin when the pirate boy finally made his decision. Looked like she was going to get to listen to some problems today! This was going to be exciting. She was going to get to help somebody out even if it just meant her being there to listen. She was half rabbit so she was all ears.
When he mentioned that he was wondering if her offer still stood she nodded. ”Of course! It'll always stand,” she practically purred. Which sounded a bit odd considering a rabbit’s way of purring was by grinding their front teeth together.
Now that Hal was for sure going to stay and talk Jenny got up to finish some last minute things. While she trusted nobody to barge into the room she still went and locked it just in case. She then walked over to grab her notebook and pencil to write with. ”Is it alright if I take notes again?” Jenny asked with a tilt of her head; just because he had been okay with it yesterday didn't mean he was today. ”Is there anything you'd like before we get started? I can't offer much, but I have carrots.” Just like Bala had done with chocolate the daughter of Nick and Judy had smuggled over a good amount of carrots that would probably only last her a week. Even with that she would still offer some up to any guest she had the pleasure of meeting. ”And do you have a preference for where I sit?” Maybe he would feel more comfortable if she sat further away or perhaps he would rather her stay close. Minor details such as that mattered a lot when it came to a session like this.
After a moment Jenny added, ”I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but my goal with them is to make sure you're okay and comfortable with this. If at any point something happens that you aren't okay with, please let me know. It's my job to make you feel safe.” Her words were firm, genuine and true. If she did anything at all during her four months on the Isle then she at least hoped it would me helping Hal. At least he would be one person she offered a helping hand out to and made his life tolerable. At least she would have made the world better for one person out there.

Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
Well then, it was decided. Earl was going to meet Bala and Khari, the only two family members that had come over with Basu to the Isle. Hopefully the two were at the shack, or else this would be a wasted trip. ”I know you won’t, now come on, we’ll want to hurry before it gets dark.” School should be out by now, right? He hadn’t attended many classes today, so one could only hope. Ah well, if not they could wait for the rest of the family to come along. So with that in mind, Basu started off, gesturing for Earl to follow him.
The trek through Kakamora territory left him on end, even if they hadn’t been attacked throughout the time spent there, and as soon as they were truly in the clear, the son of Bagheera and Vitani couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. The attack from yesterday had left him wary of any possible further attacks from the pesky, coconut wielding kids. There really ought to be something done about them, so they weren’t such a problem anymore. Why hadn’t Serpent Prep done anything about them yet? Maybe that was something Basu could bring up when he eventually met Sanura, his almost family. Family by family.
Once they were safe from possible Kakamora attacks, Basu turned to face Earl. ”Okay, you stay here, I’ll go get them and bring them back. It shouldn’t take too long, assuming they’re actually home-at the shack, okay?” Basu asked, looking Earl over for a few moments. Perhaps it would simply be easier to bring Earl with him the entire way, but he didn’t want to just spring his new boyfriend on his twin and his cousin without giving them any time to prepare for him. Besides, Basu would be able to explain everything a lot easier without Earl already there. This was the best way to do it.
So after a few more moments, he nodded to Earl again and started off towards the shack to go and find his family. The trek there wasn’t very long and soon the leopon boy found himself standing in front of a familiar brown door. Basu wasted no time in opening it and walking inside, there were a few transfers already inside the shack, which only seemed to confirm to Basu that school was out - either that or a lot more transfers than just himself, skipped out - however he paid them no heed as he walked further into the shack. ”Bala! Khari! Are either of you in here?” He called out for his twin and his cousin, hoping they might be nearby. He didn’t want to leave Earl waiting for longer than needed.

Earl Fisi son of ed and kijana
Going through Kakamora territory was always a gamble. Sometimes the coconut kids would show themselves and attack whatever moved, other times there wouldn't be a single scent of them. Their patterns of attack were irregular at best so trying to map out when they were more likely to strike was near impossible. Some crew members theorized they attacked more when the tide was high and the moon above the clouds was full - how somebody could tell the moon was full was a mystery within itself. Some suggested that they were more likely to attack on days when a lot of Auradon ships came to throw garbage away. It was a good theory, but the last few times the docks had been busy with that had left no signs of Kakamora. It seemed like the odd group just came and went as they pleased with no true rhyme or reason for attack. Their activity levels had been higher as of late, the attack yesterday confirming as much. But right now they seemed to be hiding in their little nooks and crannies. This was a huge relief to Earl who didn't want to see his boyfriend get hurt again by the creatures. Relief washed over Earl when he realized they had made it out of Kakamora territory without a scratch. There had been no sound or smell of the kids and that was always a relaxing thought. Those things were dangerous, they had killed quite a few kids before. Earl didn't want Basu to be another fatality caused by the coconut gang. Though they had made it safely through the docks Earl found himself slouching a bit, yellow eyes round and somewhat sad as he glanced up at Basu. ”You'll be okay without me?” He asked, voice ending in a high-pitched whine. The hyena-jackal had known the leopon for only three days yet he was already quite attached to him. If he could help it he didn't want to be separated for any amount of time. ”You won't be gone too long, right?” Of course Basu wouldn't be long. He was just going up to the shack to get his sister and cousin. That wouldn't take long. Earl could survive without his boyfriend for that long. He could do it.
Basu had started walking off before Earl could get himself worked up over him leaving for a bit again. With waiting the only thing he needed to do Earl plopped down on the ground, drawing little lines in the bare dirt with his fingers.
Khari Negasi son of kiara and kovu
Today had been rather uneventful. Khari had attended classes today, but only one teacher had showed up, and even then she had only been there long enough to raise a questioning eyebrow in the lion’s direction before grabbing a yellowed notebook and leaving. Other than a few other transfers Khari hadn't seen a single soul in Serpent Prep today, yet he had stayed all day anyway. He had actually found a few nice cabinets tucked away in a cafeteria like area where he had been able to curl up in and take a nap. Maybe the day hasn't been as uneventful as he was making it out to be. That cabinet discovery was actually pretty important and he would have to let his cousins know about its existence soon enough. And speaking of his cousins…
Khari perked up when he heard the familiar voice of Basu call out his and Bala’s name. As quickly as he could he walked out into the hall, looking around and spotting the younger feline not too far off. ”I'm here, just got back,” he informed as he tilted his head. ”Something the matter?”

Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
Basu had already started to walk off when Earl called out to him, asking if the leopon would truly be okay without his boyfriend there, and how long it would take him. ”I’ll be fine, shouldn’t take long, just stay there,” Basu called back as he walked off. The last thing he needed was to go grab Bala and Khari, bring them back to this spot to meet his boyfriend, only for his boyfriend to have wandered off. They might think he was crazy, or had made up some sort of boyfriend for some reason. Not that he had ever done that before, of course.
Luckily it didn’t take long for him to reach the shack and enter it. After calling out the names of his twin and his cousin, one of them appeared. Basu smiled slightly, walking over to his cousin. ”Khari, glad I found you. Nothing’s wrong, it’s uh, kind of the opposite,” he explained quickly, not going into a lot of detail. He wanted Bala to be here as well so he didn’t have to go over this twice with them. Quickly the only son of Bagheera and Vitani looked past Khari, as if to look for his twin. ”Have you seen Bala? I need Bala here too,” he asked Khari, chocolate brown eyes looking back to Khari for a moment or so to wait for an answer.
However an answer wasn’t needed, for a few moments later, Bala came from her room in the shack and walked over. ”Well look at us! All of us are actually here for once! I swear we’ve all spent these last few days out and about. I’ve hardly spoken to either of you,” Bala explained, looking both Khari and Basu over with a grin plastered across her face. The leopon girl was clearly excited to have both her twin and her cousin with her again. Something that hadn’t happened since their first day on the Isle.
Basu paused for a moment, flashbacks of that day crossing his mind. It had been an eventful day, though undoubtedly his dullest day on the Isle thus far. The only major thing that stuck out to him with that day was the worm eating goblin Bala had befriended for whatever reason, he was sure he would never know.
He shook his head, looking back to Bala and Khari. ”Yeah, it’s great that we’re all here. But I need to talk to you two. See there’s someone I want you to meet,” Basu began tentatively, choosing his next words carefully. Three days way a little fast for someone to go from numerous crushes to an actual boyfriend. He wasn’t entirely sure how they’d react. However Basu reassured himself that it would be fine, they had no reason to act in any other way than happy and eager to meet his hyena-jackal boyfriend. So Basu took a breath and smiled at them again - he sure did seem to be smiling more than usual today - waiting a second, before he continued. “My boyfriend. I want you two to meet my boyfriend.”

Khari Negasi son of kiara and kovu
Relief instantly washed over Khari when Basu mentioned that nothing was wrong. That was a huge relief considering no telling what all could happen on the Isle. In only the few days the transfers had been here quite a bit had happened, one of the more worrying things being a Kakamora attack. But hearing that everything was fine and Basu was okay made a lot of worry vanish from the son of Kiara and Kovu. In fact, a smile even made itself visible on the lion’s face. ”She shou-” He never finished what he was going to say as Bala made her appearance.
Bala brought up a solid point. Ever since getting here the three had been so busy with their own adventures that they really hadn’t had much time to hang out. Bala’s grin was contagious, Khari feeling his smile grow a bit wider. It was nice to be around his cousins again. He actually hadn’t realized just how much he had missed them until now. They really did need to go out and do something together, maybe even have one of their little sleepovers at some point. Surely nobody in the shack would mind that, right?
Someone Basu wanted them to meet? Khari tilted his head to the side. Who could Basu even be talking about? They had only been on the Isle for three days...was that long enough to make a friend? Unless it was another transfer from Auradon, but that didn’t make any sense. Why would Basu want them to meet somebody they already knew? It was nice to know that Basu was going out and making friends - made Khari happy, really, he thought it good that the prickly leopon was getting out and befriending people from the Isle - but he was curious now, perhaps even a bit cautious. Who could it be? Would it be somebody Khari and Bala should already know about? Some of their family, perhaps?
All of his thoughts were put to rest when Basu finally spoke up again.
...Wait. Had Khari heard right?
He blinked, looking at Bala and then to Basu, confusion sparking in his yellow-green gaze. ”...Boyfriend?” Khari asked hesitantly, trying to make sure he heard his cousin right. Over the years Basu had had a lot of crushes on all sorts of people, pretty much anybody who looked twice at him, but that had been it. Nothing more than a crush. Not that Khari thought Basu couldn’t get a boyfriend or girlfriend, but how likely was it that he was going to get one after three days on the Isle?
Unsure of what to exactly say in the moment, Khari turned to Bala, hoping she would have the appropriate response for this, and hopefully she had heard Basu right since surely he couldn’t have said he had a boyfriend, right?

Bala Vira Singh Daughter of Bagheera & Vitani
Basu seemed a little off and not like the normal kind of off that he always was. Instead he was slightly off balance, he winced every now and then as if he had a headache, and he was...smiling. Which over all wasn’t that unusual, Bala had seen her twin smile before. It just wasn’t a common occurrence nowadays, and even when he did smile, those were usually saved for family, or passions of his. Yet here he was, smiling as he suggested they meet someone he knew. This made Bala pause. Who could Basu have possibly met within the last few days that made him so eager to introduce them to this mysterious person?
Bala’s first thought was that perhaps Basu had met some of their Isle family. Such as Njeri, or Leeto, or perhaps even Zane. Yes that had to be it, Basu had met some of their family, just like Bala had, the day before. Now reassured that this was who Basu was talking about, Bala simply smiled and waited for her brother to continue.
”My boyfriend. I want you two to meet my boyfriend.”
Wait what?
Boyfriend? But Basu didn’t have a boyfriend. Bala should know, she knew her brother better than anyone else. He got crushes, many of them, but they only lasted a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the crush. Never before had any of them gone anywhere before. They were just crushes. If Basu had come here today saying that he had a new crush, Bala would have believed it in a heartbeat. But a boyfriend was a different story.
”...Slow down there Basu, did you say that you had a boyfriend?” Bala asked slowly, hoping for confirmation that perhaps she had heard wrong, or Basu meant something more along the lines of a future boyfriend that he would never actually have.
However instead she was met with a nod from her brother. ”Yeah, that’s right, his name is Earl, he’s waiting for us not far off. Come on, let’s go,” Basu told them, gesturing for the two to follow him as he headed back out of the shack without so much as another word.
For a moment, all Bala did was stand there, blinking in confusion, still unsure of what was actually going on, she glanced at Khari, looking at him in hopes he might have some answers that Bala was otherwise clueless about. Then, with a small shrug, she followed her twin outside, slowly coming out of her state of confusion with more questions than she had before.

Khari Negasi son of kiara and kovu
This sort of behavior didn't fit Basu in this context. Maybe if he was talking about a star that he had found or had stumbled upon a conscious chocolate bar then the behavior would make sense, but Khari was sure neither of those had happened. It was hard to imagine Basu actually finding somebody on the Isle and befriending them in three days, but stranger things had happened Khari supposed. Besides, the thought of his prickly cousin finding a friend made the son of Kiara and Kovu happy. He knew how reluctant the leopon had been about coming to the Isle at first so maybe finding a friend or two would make him feel better about being talked into going.
Perhaps, even, he had found some family of theirs to befriend. This thought made the lion boy fidget a bit. He still had yet to meet any of his Isle family. Briefly he had heard Bala mention a daughter and son of Nuka, Njeri and Leeto, but he hadn't heard much. Bala could make friends with just about anybody so they may have been friendly with her but who was to say they would be friendly to anybody else from their Auradon side of the family?
All thoughts on Basu having met family was thrown out the window when the word “boyfriend” came into play. Basu had done some odd things, but dating a family member was pushing it even for Basu.
Khari was in the same boat as Bala right now. Basu was some weird master of crushes, but he had yet to explore the art of dating - not that Khari had either but that wasn't the point here. The prickly leopon had a new crush every three days and being on the Isle opened up many new possibilities albeit sketchy ones. But a boyfriend? That just didn't seem very Basu-ish.
Right now he should be congratulating his cousin on finally getting a significant other, but Khari was just so confused and a bit worried that he couldn't feel any excitement for his cousin and friend right now. Even as he was told this boyfriend’s name - Earl - he still couldn't shake off the weird feeling that had settled in his gut. ”What's, um, Earl like?” Khari questioned gingerly. It would be nice to know a little something about this boyfriend of Basu’s before actually meeting him. Surely he couldn't be all that bad if his cousin liked him, right? An image of some sophisticated guy popped into his mind followed by the image of a sweet, kindly guy that could still take any and all of the leopon’s prickles. Knowing him both of these images were wrong, but what other kind of person would Basu actually date? Just because he could crush on anything that breathed didn't mean his standards for dating were that low. Okay, that was rude. Khari mentally apologized. Basu didn't have low standards. If he had low standards then he would have crushed on Bella Bête. Okay, that was enough savagery for one day.
With one quick glance toward Bala, Khari shrugged to note his own confusion before following Basu out of the shack, a bit wary on who they would end up meeting.

Basu Matil Singh Son of Bagheera & Vitani
”Don’t all get up and congratulate me at once,” Basu remarked, arms folded as he looked his twin and cousin over. Neither seemed all that thrilled yet. If anything, they didn’t even seem happy. Part of him knew this was going to happen. After all, there was a reason he had wanted to give both Khari and Bala time to think before they actually met Earl. However even then, it was a little discouraging to see them so...off about all of this. Was Basu not allowed to be happy? Was he supposed to remain this prickly, grumpy man that hissed at everyone, forever?
He probably would have continued to internally laminate, if Khari hadn’t asked a question. Perking up a little, Basu pushed the door open and walked outside. ”Earl’s great. He’s uhm...he’s very unique,” that was a good way to phrase it. ”Sweet too, so happy and fun. He’s not like anyone I’ve ever met before.” That was true. Basu had never met someone quite like Earl before. He was special, in a good way. A bit much to take in if you weren’t used to him, but he was so curious and energetic. There were a lot of good qualities to Earl that Basu had found over the last few days and he was sure that he would find more the longer he spent around the hyena-jackal.
”You know, it’s kinda funny, because the first day I met him, I hated him. He was the most annoying person two days ago, I couldn’t even get rid of him so I had to ditch school and go look for bones - he really likes bones - and then I had to save him from drowning and we hugged,” Basu explained, happy to talk about his time spent with his new boyfriend. ”Then yesterday I fed him chocolate and took him to the shack, he wanted to meet both of you then, but neither of you were there, so that didn’t happen,” Basu said with a casual shrug. ”After that we got attacked by coconuts...” Suddenly Basu came to a stop, a shiver crawling up his spine as he thought about the coconut wielding pests that had attacked them. ”...So many coconuts.” He’d never be able to look at a coconut the same again.
Pushing that out of his mind, Basu continued on. ”Then today I went to the ship with him, and I think I fell unconscious for awhile, but it’s okay!” He reassured quickly. ”My head only hurts a little and I didn’t throw up, not like yesterday. That time I threw up a couple times and my head was bleeding. But we’re all good,” Basu looked back to Bala and Khari, lightly tapping his head. ”All good in the noggin, I’m fine,” he reassured, turning back to continue walking back to Earl. ”Anyways, and now we’re dating,” Basu finished easily, figuring that was probably a good enough explanation for Bala and Khari.

Khari Negasi son of kiara and kovu
This was not how somebody should react to the news of their cousin getting a boyfriend. How he should be reacting is by showing how happy he was for Basu, showing that he was glad that the guy finally found somebody, and while there was some excitement there it was all drowned out by worry. Three days wasn't a long time at all, especially not long enough for somebody to get to know somebody well enough to date them. But then again everybody was different. Some people only knew their significant other for a day or two before marrying them. It was just how life worked Khari supposed. He wouldn't be able to date somebody he had known for only three days, but if Basu could then more power to him.
The lion perked up somewhat when his cousin went on to describe what Earl was like. Maybe this would help him see why exactly the leopon had decided to date somebody three days into being on the Isle.
Following Basu out of the shack Khari glanced over at Bala for a quick second before letting his attention go back to the younger of the twins. Already he was starting to feel a bit better about this Earl character as he listened to Basu explain what he was like. Just by the way Bagheera and Vitani’s son was explaining him made Khari feel more excited and happy for his cousin and friend. Maybe it was best to not worry after all. Basu had done some pretty...interesting things in the past, but he was a good person and it took a special somebody to wriggle their way past all the thorns that covered the leopon. ”He sounds like a good person. Of course, anybody who can befriend you is a good person,” the lion joked, finding it easier to crack one now that he was settling into the idea of Basu having a boyfriend. Now with a bit more knowledge on who Earl was he felt like he could relax more, felt like he didn’t have to worry about going into a situation completely blind.
Oh, there was more to this? Khari went back to staying silent, listening to his cousin as he explained his first day with Earl all the way up to current time. Basu sure had had an eventful three days...all Khari had done was meet Elijah Grimhilde, and they weren’t even friends yet, just simple acquaintances.
Wait. Attacked by what?
Khari shot a confused look toward Bala before he cocked his head and looked back to her brother. ”...Coconuts?” He asked slowly. And then it just kept getting weirder. What had Basu been doing these past few days? Attacked by coconuts, falling unconscious, getting a boyfriend… ”Basu, are you alright?” Even if he had reassured the two that he was fine Khari was still worried about the leopon. ”Maybe we should stay at the shack and let you rest. You sound like you’ve had a long few days, and…” Khari stopped himself short. ’And you may have hit your head hard enough to make Earl up.’ He couldn’t say that. Earl had to be real, right? Basu may have hit his head a few times in these last three days but surely he hadn’t suffered an injury to the point of making up a fake boyfriend.

Bala Vira Singh Daughter of Bagheera & Vitani
Bala followed Basu and Khari out of the shack, a frown on her face as Basu went on to talk about Earl. His boyfriend. Some random Isle stranger that had snatched her twin up in their evil clutches. This was not okay with Bala. Why wasn’t Khari more concerned about this? This was a very concerning matter.
As Basu went on about something or whatever, Bala’s mind wandered. Who was this guy? Earl, he sounded suspicious. An image of a tall, mysterious man wearing a suit and a top hat appeared in her head. “Come with me, Basu, I promise I’m not using you for evil plans,” said the mysterious man, voice smooth as silk. Her poor naive brother would be just stupid enough to believe some strange man in a top hat. Was that what Earl would be like? Some deviously handsome man, full of deception? Suave and sophisticated with a kind outlook but rotten to the core, within? How would she save her brother from that?
Suddenly, a different image appeared in her head. This time, Earl was a large, muscular man with scruff and no shirt. ”Haha, I’m so tough and manly, Basu, stick with me and I’ll protect you,” said this Earl, wrapping an arm around Basu to pull him close. A ruffian if Bala had ever saw one, someone that would surely end up hurting Basu and he would be too stupid to see it. Bala would have to fight him. She couldn’t fight people, she wasn’t that strong. But she would do it. She would fight any Earl that dared to hurt or use her brother in some way.
Then, the big and bulky Earl was replaced with a different image. This time, he was slim and sort of slimy looking. His hair was slicked back and he had a devious smile on his face. ”Hehe, hey Basu, wanna buy some weed? I’ll date you if you do,” the man laughed. Bala frowned, huffing, wishing she could reach into her thoughts and snap Earl’s neck.
She shook her head, snapping out of her thoughts. Bala glanced back at Basu, he was still talking. Bala probably hadn’t missed much. However now she was on the defensive. Suspicious and ready to fight Earl, no matter what he was like. Certain that now, no matter what Earl was like, he was surely using Basu for his nefarious plans, and Bala had to make sure that didn’t happen. She had to protect her brother, and that is what she was going to do.
Soon enough, they stopped walking and Basu looked around. ”Earl! I brought Bala and Khari!” He called out and Bala stiffened, gaze shifting into a glare as she looked around, waiting for Earl to approach, hands curled up into fists. She was ready to fight this Earl and protect her twin, no matter what. Even if Earl was huge and mean, Bala would fight him to protect and save Basu.

Earl Fisi son of ed and kijana
By now Earl had grown tired of standing. He had found a spot on the ground that was dipped into a small bowl-like shape. The son of Ed and Kijana was curled up in on himself like a cat that was trying to take a quick snooze. While he wasn’t asleep - in fact, his dull yellow eyes were wide open - he seemed to be rather content, and he was. This spot was very comfortable. In his state of comfort he had even found a nearby stick and was currently chewing on it like a dog would a bone. Mindlessly he gnawed on the stick, finding it to be quite durable as he had yet to splinter it into pieces like he had done to other branches in the past.
He was just about to give the stick a rather hard bite when he heard the all too familiar voice of his boyfriend. His boyfriend. Earl was still thrilled beyond anything else that Basu wanted to be his boyfriend, that the leopon actually liked him enough to get into a relationship with him. It made the canine hybrid incredibly happy, the kind of happy he got when he dug up a new bone or when Tara scheduled a playdate with him and Tony. There were a lot of people in Serpent Prep that Earl absolutely loved being around, but it wasn’t until Basu came along that he had even considered somebody as a potential boyfriend. Yeah, he was close to Tara and loved her, but she was more like somebody he looked up to, somebody he wanted to be like. She was fun to be around, but he didn’t see her as anything like a girlfriend. There was also his other close friends like Batini and Shomari, but they were of course family. He couldn’t like family in a dating way. Until Basu Earl hadn’t thought of anything other than being friends with people. As an Isle native he was at that age where people started getting married and even have kids, and only just yesterday he didn’t even have a significant other. Now he did and he was pretty excited about it. Because of his excitement over Basu he was more than excited to meet his family, so when he heard the leopon’s voice he jumped up to his feet. He skidded a bit on the dry ground, stick still in his mouth. ”Bashu!” His voice was slurred with the wood and he rushed over with open arms, coming up to hug the son of Bagheera and Vitani without giving it a second thought.
For a good moment there Earl nuzzled into Basu. Once he had fully welcomed the feline hybrid back Earl pulled away, yet he continued to remain close to the other guy. It was then that he noticed the two people his boyfriend had brought back. He jumped up and a beaming smile came across his face. ”Ahaha, they look like you, Basu! Especially her, aha!” He chuckled, hopping over to the girl first that he assumed was Bala. Without stopping he came over and wrapped his arms around the female leopon, pulling her into a tight hug as he nuzzled into her as he had done her brother moments earlier. ”I’m Earl, and you’re Bala! That’s Khari!” He hopped away from Bala and rushed up to Khari, pulling him into a tight hug like he had done Bala, the son of Kiara and Kovu’s eyes growing wide and his body stiffening at the sudden hug, but he didn’t back away or say anything, just let Earl take his sweet time with the hug, and Earl was thoroughly enjoying it.

Bala Vira Singh Daughter of Bagheera & Vitani
Bala really hadn’t known what to expect when they came to a stop, with Basu calling out for his supposed boyfriend - Bala was still holding out a bit of hope that maybe he had just made this guy up - but some random hyena boy jumping at her brother from behind was most definitely not what Bala had expected. Instantly she let out a low warning growl out of instinct. Her brother didn’t like to be hugged by random people, she had to get this guy off of him. Or at least, she thought she did. Basu seemed to disagree.
In fact, Basu seemed to be handling this pretty well. After all, out of nowhere a man had come and tackled her brother. However Basu didn’t seem to react negatively at all to this. Instead he laughed and wrapped his arms around the strange man in a hug. Bala didn’t know what to think, but she was pretty sure this wasn’t right. Brainwashing. That was it. Basu had been brainwashed. Still on high alert, Bala eyed the man suspiciously, standing still like a cat ready to pounce if needed, even though her twin seemed all too comfortable with this.
Basu nuzzled into the hyena boy, smiling as he did so. Then, still clinging onto him, Basu turned to face Bala and Khari, beaming at them. ”Bala, Khari, this is my boyfriend: Earl. Earl, this is Bala my twin, and Khari, my cousin,” Basu introduced, gesturing to everyone in question as he introduced them.
Bala was about to say something when suddenly Earl got off Basu and instead came to hug her. Bala instantly stiffened and let out another warning growl, trying to get him to stop. Now, typically, Bala was a lot friendlier than this. However she still wasn’t entirely sure what to think about all of this, and she was on high alert. She has to protect Basu and she wasn’t sure how to do that with this guy here.
As soon as Earl let go to go hug Khari instead, Bala’s relaxed just a little, her eyes slitting as she watched him. ”So you’re Earl, huh?” Bala questioned, arms folded as she eyed him suspiciously. ”And you’re dating my brother now, right?” She asked, voice tart and nose scrunched up in displeasure at the thought. ”Why are you doing that?” she questioned, starting towards Earl to poke him suspiciously, getting a little too close to be appropriate as she began to sniff him.
Well, he didn’t smell like weed. So that was something. But that didn’t mean Bala was done with him yet, and she continued to sniff at him, glaring at Earl suspiciously. At one point, Basu seemed to have enough and walked over, pulling Bala away from him. ”Bala, chill, you’re acting like a crazy person,” Basu told her, looking at her with one of his signature “I’m not amused” expressions on his face.
Bala huffed, frowning, however she listened and instead slinked back behind Basu, standing behind him as she glared at Earl. Ready to tell him to back off if Earl did anything.
