Everyone is born differently. Some, more than others. This is a land of dragons and knights, the kingdoms of the kings and queens, a time where there is a sword at everyone's side and there is a horse to belong as one's means of getting around, castles that climb into the clouds. Even here, there are those whom are born differently. Fate has a way of making us go down certain paths, these destinies being drawn for us the day our hearts first beat.
Everyone has a different soul within them. This defines how strong-willed we are, how brave or cowardly we are. It shows our strength in our minds and within our bodies. Our souls may not be seen, but they are the very reason that our hearts begin to beat in the first place. Every living creature has one. Some of us, however, are not born with one soul, but two. They are seen on the outside as everyone else, but within their minds and their hearts, they are more than one being, but of two.
Everyone has a life that they draw within their own. Some follow the path that fate has set out for them, others go against the flow of destiny and carve out their own path. No matter what, you still have a path to choose and there is something that you were meant to do, no matter how big nor how small. There is a purpose for every beating heart that creates this world and everyone's role is vital to the flow of life within. From a small ant to a roaring dragon, there is a reason that there is life within every being of a beating heart.
Chosen a long time ago, there were six animals that had the grace of divines and walked as rulers among the land. Life blossomed and flourished with their existence. These animals, despite their amazing power, were lonely. One day, they came upon six humans whom soul had reflected within their own. These humans had become their companions and no longer were they lonely. Though they only come into our lives upon the time of a great struggle, for when they are needed, they are always watching over us, these divines in the form of animals. Alphas of the alphas, upon the first beat of a person's heart a soul whom has reflected a divine's is mixed into two.
These beings are seen just as anyone else. They talk, sleep and eat like the average human being. But within them is something far more complex, far greater than that of which you could ever imagine. Within them are abilities that they will learn to harness and control, their destiny far greater a role in the flow of life and the space of time. Though only five are seen, there will always be six when the time comes.
Extraordinary beings like this are the choice of the flow of that time era. They can do great things, amazing things. These things can be for the good of life or they can wipe out everything and make way for a new, fresh era. Fate has this funny way of making everything work out in the end, with these beings. Life always has a natural balance with nature.
Extraordinary beings like this have a special name. They are called Dreamtides.--------

Nobody likes rules, however, it's a thing that must be done. These are the rules of the role-play and I'd like you to look them over, especially the activity and literacy area. This is an advanced role-play so you might not be able to make the cut if you can't keep up with the lengths required. You have three warnings and if you mess them up, you will be asked to leave the role-play.
x ━ FORUM RULESself-explanatory, just follow the rules that we all have to follow upon being on this site. simple rule, right?
x ━ LITERACYdue to this being an advanced role-play, i will require a minimum of five paragraphs per response. i want proper spelling, grammar and nice formatting, not something that's hard to read or understand. if you want to make a fancy post for role-playing, please make sure the font and colors you use are visible and easy to read.x ━ ACTIVITYi really dislike having to hunt people down and watch them be elsewhere while ignoring a role-play that i have put so much time and effort into. i want you to be here at least three times a week, which considering that there are seven days in a week, it isn't that much to ask of you at all. if you lose interest, please just say so or if you think you won't be interested in it at a later time, please avoid joining. it frustrates me to watch a role-play die after all the hard time and work i put into it.
x ━ ROLE-PLAYINGif you're an advanced role-player, you know the basic things that drive others crazy in a role-play. spot-lighting, god-modding and power-playing. these things make a role-play less fun and i won't really stand for it. please try to avoid these things.x ━ JOININGwhen you join, i want you to message me first on a role-play starter for the character you'll be using in this. no matter what it is, just send me a starter for that character to see if you can match the length of this role-play. after that, i will tell you what to do if you're accepted.
x ━ CHARACTERSthink about the era that this is based in, though the land isn't of an area belonging to this world, this is roughly in the medieval times, something like a mixture of Skyrim and Eragon that were influenced by Ireland. please try to stick to things that belong in that time, so hair dying and abnormal hair colors, hoodies and all that are not to be found here. guns don't exist and all that fun stuff. and please stick the the animal that they are with, a small description is given for them. try to make them a large group of ethnicity types. after all, the more diverse, the better!x ━ ROMANCEanything goes here as long as it's wanted by both role-players. do not, for the love of starclan, do not force a relationship. all sexualities are allowed here, but do not force anything. and please keep it pg13. thank you.
x ━ FUNthis is the most important rule of them all. make sure to have fun.Once, a long time ago, lived six divine beings. While they took no shape for most of the time, their virtues began to make their physical appearance take form. There was the Dragon, the Wolf, the Pegasus, the Saber-Tooth, the Eagle and the Stag. Each held their own role to ruling over the land. Then, something strange happened.
Humans settled within their territory. These new creatures were frightened, crashing down trees and bringing sharp objects that hunted down their animals. At first, the six of them were opposed against these humans that had forced themselves in so rudely. They gathered up their animals and attacked. Dogs turned against their owners, horses reared and bucked, cats of all kinds spat and hissed at their humans. Stags charged the hunters, birds flew and attacked at random and dragons reined terror over their walls and castles, burning the wooden homes to ash. These animals felt the fear and anger of their Alpha Divines.
Then, humans formed up together and began fighting back. Animals began to lose and then, eventually, the Divines had to pull back their emotions to protect their own. They drew back far and kept hidden, confused and lonely. Though they had each other, it was still a lonely existence.
Upon a rainy, stormy day where the thunder shook mountains and the lightning turned night into day, rain coming down like a waterfall, a caravan of humans passed by the Divines. They were struggling, looking for shelter to no avail. At first, the Divines were wary and unwilling to help. But there was a twinge in their hearts that pulled them all, one by one, to shelter the caravan. The Dragon held out his mighty wings to block out the rain, the Pegasus let the elder of the caravan upon his back, the Stag let the pregnant woman use him as a guide, the Saber-Tooth curled up around the children to warm them, the Eagle flew over them to try and catch the lightning and throw it elsewhere and the Wolf lead the way to a sheltered cave.
The storm had eventually passed, leaving the caravan a safe path back to their travels. In their thanks, while they didn't have much, this small band of humans gifted the Divines with stone and gem necklaces. These necklaces had eventually absorbed the enchantment of the Divines and now will always be found around the neck of one.
Alone again, forced to move from place to place due to the humans hunting their kind with the sorcery of witches and wizards, the Divines eventually hide in a special valley, using their last strength to seal it off to any normal human. There, they laid down into an eternal rest, their spirits staying, but bodies eventually fading into nothing.
There was then, a beat of a heart. Then another. And another. Six beats of hearts. The Divines had found themselves with the offspring of those that they had helped with the Caravan. Watching over them, taking care of them. Thankful for their kindness, being the only humans that hadn't shied away from them and tried to harness or kill them, the Divines had become one with six of these humans.
But no one can live forever and eventually they died, leaving the Divines alone again. Wanting revenge for what was lost, wanting a new era of peaceful humans, the Dragon raged, his anger being felt across every reptile within the world. They struck up against the humans, more fierce than ever. Taken aback by the destruction, the other five had tried to reason with the Dragon and stop him, but to no avail.
The Dragon was the mightiest of them all and alone, they could not best him. But to protect life as they were supposed to, the remaining five Divines came up and fought together against the Dragon and finally brought him down.
It's said that when humans need protecting, when there is to be a time event in which life and death will need balancing, the five Divines will appear. When there is an end to a era or the beginning of a new one, the Dragon will always appear. The Divines only pick those whom are worthy of the heart, sharing their wisdom, abilities and soul within the selected human. Two hearts will beat as one and they will lead the way to protect or to wipe out humanity for that time era. The country of Northwind is an ancient based land filled with mountains and seven different Holds that make it up. Each hold is it's own county, essentially, so if a criminal is wanted in one Hold, they will not be sought after in another. They all have their own leader within it, save for the Capital Hold, which has its leader as the Emperor of the country itself. The leader is called the Kylt [s-ehl-t], being like the King or Queen of each Hold, having their own palace, if the Hold can provide one. Every Hold is unique with their own emblem, flag and law enforcement, though they ultimately have to follow the basic laws of Northwind as well. Twice a year, unless there is a major disturbance, all the Kylts come together to discuss their Holds and to think of better ways to support each other.
Northwind is a country based off of the Scandinavian beliefs mixed with a bit of Skyrim and Eragon thrown into the mix. as well as Celtic beliefs. The Divines are god-like creatures that rule over a certain emotion or thing with an animal form or companion. There are multiple Divines, only six of them are animal Divines with human forms, which are the Divines that had combined with humans upon their first heart-beat in this role-play.
Each Hold has a certain Divine that has an altar and shrine specifically. Though each city is to their own wish with whomever they want to worship, there are about twelve Divines total. There are multiple shrines and altars among the country, though each major city has a certain Divine that is said to watch over that area.
The currency in Northwind are little gold pieces known as Talons, similar to coins. Gems can be used as Talons, though the quality, size and type of gem will determine how valuable they are and it depends on the shop you try to use them with.
.......
THE HOLDS
The Capital Hold, the Hold by the Svengare Ocean on the north-west side of Northwind, is called the Slainte Hold, each hold being named after the capital city within it. Slainte is the star capital of not only its own Hold, but the country of Northwind itself. The richest and the grandest, where the Emperor lives along with his Queen. The Divine that looks over this Hold is Okami, the Divine of loyalty and strength, commonly seen as the Wolf Divine. As such, the crest of this hold is that of a white wolf with a blue background. While this is a beautiful, grand city, it's the most strict as well as the most expensive to live in, located on a cliff located near the port of Svengare, overlooking the Svengare Ocean.
The Keltiar Hold is the hold of the far north, in-between the Ghrianstad Hold and the Slainte Hold. One of the two holds that does not have a stone wall protecting it, this Hold is not a grand one, but with the constant snow-fall and gentle peace within it, how could someone build up a stone wall around it? Keltiar is a smaller city, though it is well knit together and despite the cold, one of the closer communities. The Divine that looks over this Hold is Callirus, the Divine of the snow and grace, commonly seen as the Stag. The crest fits that, with the emblem being a antlered green stag with a white background to it. Due to the cold, not many creatures attack the city, so there hasn't been a need for a stone wall.
Located to the north-east, stretching far downward in the mountainous range is the Ghrianstad Hold. A bit of a shady city, but the second largest, nonetheless. It's constantly cold and one of the harder cities with not many being that friendly, looking down on Elven races, despite the Northwind law stating that all races are equal within the country. The Divine watching over this city is Draco, the Divine of war and strategy, commonly seen in the form of the Dragon. Their crest is that of a red dragon head with a gray background. They are some of the fiercest warriors and most here are well trained, as a guard or not.
Down to the southern east side of Northwind is the Hartz Hold. By no means does this Hold live up to its name with its capital city running most of the illegal crime guilds, the guards being easily paid to look the other way. While it sounds nice and such, it's quite the opposite. Ironically, the Divine that looks over this Hold is Legna, the Divine of marriage and love with the animal companion of the dove. Their crest is that of yellow bird wings with a purple background. Hartz is not a friendly place and it's not suggested to visit there unless you want to be pick-pocketed or stabbed.
Found to the southern reaches in the area is the Saoirse Hold. Regal and usually a true neutral in any fight, this is the safest and most calm city in all of Northwind. Said to almost always hold the home for the Dreamtides, this is a Hold that anyone is welcome to and that anyone can become whatever they want. The Divine that is said to watch over them is Svile, the Divine of family and hard work, seen commonly as the Pegasus. Due to this, their crest is that of a golden winged horse with a light blue background. The castle within Saoirse is said to have a secret chamber that holds the True Armor of the Dreamtides and the forge that will make their special weapons, only able to be opened by the animal Divines themselves.
Upon the western side of Northwind is the Wilds Hold, home to the city of Beatha. The most uncivilized Hold that is mostly forest and mountains, with too many cliffs and rock formations to make a proper city or home to anyone. However, the citizens of Beatha were smart upon the making of their city, long ago, by building the city into the mountain-side. The Divine that watches over this Hold is Siohc, the Divine of pathways and chance, with the animal companion of the fox. That being such, their crest is that of a orange fox with a black tail tip, the background being a silvery color, same as the mountain that is sat upon by the capital city of this Hold. While there aren't many cities found here, there are plenty of creatures and everyone is always ready for an attack ranging from an ogre or troll to a pack of Timber Wolves or even dragons.
Within the center of the country, dwelling in the thick forests of one of the mountain valleys, is the Annumara Hold. Known as one of the poorer Holds, this is also the most resourceful Hold. Plenty of farms with animals along with home-made weaponry, if you want to learn to do something or hone a skill through hard-work, it is within this Hold that you should do it. With plenty of rivers and nothing but forestry with the Shining Lake within the middle, near Annumara, this city is that of an adventure. This is also the one of two Holds that does not have a stone wall protecting its capital city. The Divine that watches over this Hold is Searsha, the Divine of the hunt and animals, commonly seen in the form of the Saber-Tooth Cat. Since every Hold has the crest based off of their Divine, Annumara has their crest to be that of a green Saber-Tooth Cat head with a brown background.
.......
THE DIVINES
Okami, the Divine of loyalty and strength, commonly seen as the Wolf. Commonly seen as a strong dark-haired male of the Nihon blood with a wolfskin cape and headpiece over him. Callirus, the Divine of the snow and grace, commonly seen as the Stag. A male of Elven blood is what he's commonly seen as with soft brown hair and a white deer skin as a cape and head-dress over him, antlers and all. Draco, the Divine of war and strategy, commonly seen in the form of the Dragon. Seen commonly as a male of the Galic blood with fair hair and a strong build, with black dragon-skin draped over him as a cloak. Searsha, the Divine of the hunt and animals, commonly seen in the form of the Saber-Tooth Cat. With short dark hair with two braids tucked behind her left ear in a short fur dress with a Saber Cat's head as a head-dress is what this Divine is commonly seen as, in the female form of the Naidni blood. Mala, the Divine of the sky and humility, commonly seen in the form of the Eagle. Graced with long, uniquely feathery hair with feathers tied within it and a smooth, feathery dress, this female formed Divine is seen of the Spole blood. Svile, the Divine of family and hard work, commonly seen in the form of the Pegasus. Seen commonly as a male of the Acirfa blood with longer hair and dark feather bracers as well as silk robes. Siohc, the Divine of pathways and chance, with the animal companion of the fox. Like Svile, Siohc is of the Acirfa blood with a dress of light armor, having more of a female form. Kneith, the Divine of knowledge and prosperity, with the animal companion of the owl. Having fur armor and seen always with a bow is this Galic-blooded Divine that shows of a ginger-haired male form, having a few feathers within his hair. Enihsnus, the Divine of the day and truth, with the animal companion of the turtle. With long dark hair tied back and the tanned skin of the Naidni blood, this female formed Divine commonly is seen wearing a silk dress with plenty of jewelry. Ablas, the Divine of the night and bloodshed, with the animal companion of the snake. Seen in heavy dark armor and with Elves blood within his male form, he has shorter fair hair and a crooked, nasty sword. One of the Divines that isn't liked or looked up to so much. Legna, the Divine of marriage and love, with the animal companion of the dove. Having long dark hair that's tied up and a beautiful dress with flowers is this female Divine of the Spole blood. Radec, the Divine of death and health, with the animal companion of the ox. Having blood of the Nihon race, she takes the form of a female with a black cloak around her and a fur cape.
There are six females and six males within the Divines and they all rule over certain things. They all can appear at random, for those that they believe are worthy of their presence. The six whom take form as animals, however, do not appear very easily when they possess the soul of a mortal. This is only when they sense that there is to be a major issue in this part of the time era.
Despite being a Divine, the animal Divines are looked down upon by the other Divines as well as the mortals when they take form within mortal souls. Those of which are born with a Divine soul mixed with their own are looked down upon for having sorcery within them and magic is not allowed within Northwind. Though the animal Divines have a certain human form, they do not always choose that of the same race as their seen human form, when on their own.
.......
THE RACES OF NORTHWIND
Galic ;; basically, their version of the Caucasian race, having pretty much any eye color or hair color with lighter, fair skin. Those of the Galic blood are naturally very well adapted to the cold and seen to be very creative, some of the best inventors to be found within this world. Nihon ;; the Asian equivalent of this world compared to ours, this race has darker tanned skin and dark hair as well as dark eyes. Though seen to be smaller than the other races, they are known to be very stealthy and quick, master warriors and loyal as can be. Spole ;; this world's version of those whom are Spanish, this race has tanned skin as well, though not as much as the Nihon race. Though they share the traits of dark hair and eyes, those with the Spole blood seem to be very muscular and tall. They are some of the best weaponry smiths and almost every one of them have the natural gift of strength, hidden or not. Naidni ;; similar to that of a mixture of the Nihon and Spole races, is the equivalent of the Indian race. Though eye color isn't very defined by this race, they are seen with darker hair colors and tanned skin that's darker than Spole, but lighter than Nihon. If there is one to be a master of animals, it's this race. They seem to have this gift of beauty and charm with animals. Acirfa ;; this race is similar to the African American race of our world, with dark skin and typically dark hair, though eye color is never really something that stays the same. This race is known for being immune to heat as well as being extremely strong and being able to endure nearly anything. Elves ;; last, but not least, is this race of Elves. Pointy-eared, tall and skinny, this race can have any skin tone, hair color or eye color, but typically are longer-living and the smartest of all the races. .
.......
THE LAWS OF NORTHWIND
I. every race and both genders are completely equal and no person is better than the other based upon the color of their skin, hair nor eye color, nor the gender that they are. II. killing another human being is to never be done unjust. in the sake of defense, this is allowed, but may the Divines have mercy on you if it is unjust. III. robbery and destruction of property is against Northwind and his people and will be repaid in gold. however this is repaid, it must be done back to the Hold that this has happened in. every Talon that is costed is two days within the jail cell. VI. magic and sorcery is completely forbidden, to be done only by the pure Divines themselves. if seen doing anything like a potion, shape-shifting or using an elemental magic or command over animals in an unnatural way, one will be sentenced to life in prison or even death. This is an era of what our world would call a fantasy medieval era, one with kings and queens, stone castles, magic and dragons. It has always been that way, with weapons that are not guns, but swords, knives, daggers, maces, bows and arrows and things of the sort. People are commonly seen wearing armor and ride around in horse-carriages or on horse-back.Cobble-stone roads and dirt trails are as fancy as the "roads" get here. ....... The current era in Northwind is of a dark one with a tyrant of a Emperor who has an iron fist. He is unfair and it has been rumored that he has magic that controls the dragons that have been terrorizing towns and cities that do not pay him what he demands.

The Dreamtides are special beings that have two souls within them. One is of a Divine animal soul and the other is their human soul. Within this, they have two personalities; a animal one and a human one. Once the human have taken control of the animal one within them, they will harness the abilities within them, the abilities that match to those of a Divine. They control a certain element, no Dreamtide having the same elemental control as another living one which are: -- fire -- water -- earth -- air -- nature -- electricity -- ice/snow -- poison -- light -- shadows
Along with the elemental control, they are given advanced senses that match that of their animal, along with a sixth sense that allows them to "feel" danger or a death that would otherwise be unexpected. They have this natural "hunches" that are usually right about another creature or being.
As the Alpha of a certain animal, these Dreamtides can also spread their emotions over that of a ten mile radius to that of their animal, older and experienced Dreamtides even being able to stretch their control farther. While they can't explicitly control that of their animal, they can influence them to fight alongside of them as well as to be able to communicate without words to them. The Wolf holds the title of the Alpha over canines, the Stag over deer and deer-like creatures, the Eagle over birds, the Saber-Tooth over felines, the Pegasus over equines and the Dragon over the dragons and even lizards.
As a Dreamtide, fighting is in their blood. As such, they learn how to fight better and learn a certain kind of weapon faster than any other living being, being the master of that weapon. Not only this, but they can heal faster than normal and are far stronger, from being able to crushed things that normal humans cannot as well as jump and climb higher and with more ease.
And the main thing to the Dreamtides... shape-shifting. They turn into large sized versions of their animal upon will, with stress or when weak. They all stand about about 6'0" at the shoulder, the only different one in size being the Dragon, whom is extremely large and about the size of a house. Their forms and markings are all different upon what they physically look like as humans. x ━ The Wolf ;; the leaderThe Alpha of their pack, the leader in things, is the Wolf. While he is not the strongest of them all, he has the cunning and physical strength that makes him be able to over-power anything in his path. He's loyal and strong, someone who you can always depend on and trust to lead the way. [ Ryujin ]x ━ The Saber-ToothA born fighter, this feline character is the Saber-Tooth. She's not exactly the most friendly of them all and tends to be aggressive or snappy, her fierce spirit is something that many adore in her. While she often looks for herself, once you earn her loyalty, she's someone who will protect you at all costs. [ INGRITH ]x ━ The PegasusWith a heart made of gold and lots of energy is the Pegasus. He may be a bit clumsy and have lots of energy, sometimes testing your limits to see how far he can push, he's someone who's very social and very friendly. Though he's terrified of being alone, he's a shoulder to cry on whenever you need him. [ NICHOL ]x ━ The EagleProud and always able to be on her own is the Eagle. She's swift and decisive, though a bit of a loner at times. Graceful and agile, she's fast on her feet and hard to catch and has one hell of a grip. Kind of hard to get to at first, once past her shell, she is always someone you can rely on and will trust you to do the same for her as she does for you. [ CEFERINAE ]x ━ The StagWise and thoughtful, always ready to guide you is the Stag. Never set to a certain gender, the Stag has always been back and forth on such things. They are known to be kind, but strict, with a very smart mind. Flighty to a point, if you are one with their "herd", they will fight to their last breath to save you. [ TAFARI ]-------- x ━ The Dragon ;; the lost oneLong forgotten, rarely seen even when the other five exist, is the Dragon. He is on his own and holds the most powerful decision in his span of life. To be the ending of an era, or to help one move on, this is his duty. No matter what is chosen, this wise and fiercely strong Dreamtide holds the fate of everything in his hands, with no time for anything else. [ amoux ] .x. Part of the Pack No matter where they were born or where they were raised, they were always... different. There was this secondary voice in their minds, soft whispers telling them where to go or what to do. They were all born differently, at different times, but within the same time era. Now that all of them are adults, they are all compelled to follow a path. They can hear the calling within their minds. They can feel the tension. Something's guiding them, but for what and where to, they have no idea. And upon a mountain, far away, sits a lonely being. A being that will change the course of events for the better or... for the worse. The fate sits upon their shoulders and in solitude, they must make this choice. The banner is a nature gif that I found on Google, therefore, I do not own it and will not pretend that I own it in nay sort of sense. The layout and idea, however, is my own and I would like it greatly if you do not steal the layout nor the idea of this role-play. Thank you!

[ i would just like to let you know that weapons are specifically unique for that person. since they are going to have a very special set of armor and their own weapon made by the divines themselves, everyone will be a master of a different weapon of the medieval era. there are daggers, maces, swords, war axes, battleaxes, greatswords, war hammers, bows and arrows, crossbows and bolts, scythes, chain scythes... lots and lots of weapons. be careful with what you choose as it is going to be the main form of human combat that these characters will have. the sword area belongs to ryujin, as he will have the katana and use a wakizashi from his exe's father. the bow belong to amoux, as he is more of a distanced character and the bow fits him well.
as for weapons though, you two can use whatever else, just try to make sure that they are not the same as someone else. my apologies for not making this clearer. ]

[ another explanation about the dreamtides. their animal personalities. this is the second soul within that has merged with them, meaning that as an animal, they are someone else until they learn to merge and become one with their animal. the divine that they have within them is typically the name of their animal personality whom's voice and feelings will become more dominant and louder as they grow up. they will eventually learn how to use their animal part of them, but that is when they finally master shifting and staying within their right mind. they have to master their fighting skills first, to get their armor and weapons, be able to masterfully use their elemental magic and then finally get to the shifting part of their training. might i add that the human forms of the divines that they hold within them will take ghostly forms to train each of them. the only one that will not be trained as a group will be amoux, but he is someone... special on his own. ]

Ryuujin "Don't take my kindness as my weakness. The beast in me is sleeping, not dead."
⇀↠ 〤 ↞↼
Always an early riser, it was not to be called uncommon to see Ryuu up at dawn, before the sun rose over the mountains. Piercing brown eyes blinked open to look at the sky that was beginning to lighten up, letting out a soft breath that clouded in the air for a moment before disappearing. Sitting up from the ground, he gave a soft yawn and stretched his arms outwards, getting up to stretch out his limbs that were slightly stiffened. The birds were beginning to chirp their morning calls, though it was not something that the male really paid attention to.
Rolling up his sleeping bag, the twenty-four year old moved along the hidden trail up to the stone pathway that lead up the mountain to a smaller town that was somewhat near Soairse, a smaller town that was upriver within the mountain. The place that he had slept in was a place that he spent almost every night at, the place that he had spent a good portion of his time years previous. If you knew Ryūjin, then you knew that he was almost always moving around in the mountains, in the forests. For about four years now, he had done nothing but trek through the animal trails of the mountains, traveling as much as he could, trying out for any leads to find something that he could not.
Moving up to the large house towards the back of the town, farther away from the river and closer to the cliff of Whitestream, going up the steps and moving inside the main door quietly as possible. However, his foot-falls were not unheard nor were his movements unseen.
"Did'ja find anythin'?" a voice asked from behind him as he moved towards the bedroom to the left side of the dinning area. Pausing with a small sigh, he turned to see a man that was about 6'4" tall, long shaggy chocolate brown hair that was losing its color and quite the goatee. His brown eyes seemed to match Ryuu's own and the twenty-four year old only shook his head with a small sigh. "How long did ya stay up this 'ere time?"
"I'd say about... midnight?"
"Ryuu... if ya do find 'im, think yer gonna be able ta even catch him if yer exhausted?" the male asked, shifting his weight and unfolding his arms from his chest. The older man moved to rest a callused, scarred hand to the younger male's shoulder. "Come now, we'll have Otosan warm ya somethin' up and then yer gettin' some real rest."
"Pa, I am fine," Ryuu stated with and shake of his head. He was not tired in any way or form. He had gotten enough sleep that his body and mind needed. The fire crackled in the fireplace that was upon the middle of the room, being the only sound for a few moments as the twenty-four year old stared down his dad before the older man looked away, towards the room that was deemed as the kitchen.
"Dare ga iru ka?" a voice sounded from that very room, a warm light coming from the wall lanterns within. The door was opened slightly and a delicious scent rolled over to the dark haired male that felt his stomach rumble. A low chuckle from his dad next to him made his cheeks heat up slightly.
"Ryuu, Otosan. Tadaima," the young master of the sword called to the kitchen in a different tongue of which was usually spoken in Northwind. Scowling a little at his hair being ruffled up by his father, he brushed the other off and moved to set his things aside by the entry hall and went into the kitchen. "Nani o tsukutte iru? Sore wa yoi nioi ga suru." Once again, his stomach growled and he swallowed a little more.
"Aw, could'ja be kind fer once and speak somethin' that Pa 'ere can understand well?" Of course, Jackson Shimada could not fully understand Nihongo very well, despite hearing it for the past thirty years. It wasn't that Jack couldn't understand it, it was just that he had a hard time piecing together things that were being spoken and he couldn't speak it well himself, besides a few basic words. "But darlin', I agree with 'lil Ryuu 'ere-"
"Oi! Speak for yourself, you giant!"
"-that whatever yer makin' smells very good." With a small scowl, the twenty-four year old gave a small huff and looked into the kitchen, seeing the other that he called "Otosan". It was not uncommon for same gender couples to exist, so the fact that Ryuu had two fathers was pretty normal. Now, his existence was not normal, but that was a story that is for another time.
"Are you referring to the bread or the stew?" the man asked by the fireplace within the smaller room, his hair completely tied back in the same fashion that Ryuu tied his back in. The two brown haired males looked at each other and then back at the black and silver-haired other.
"Both," Ryuu and Jack responded at once. Chuckling to himself, the man completely of Nihon blood looked back down at the herbs he was chopping up a bit. By the name of Kurai, which meant "dark" in his native tongue, this man seemed to be a jack of trades, amazing at many things. Hunting, fishing, cooking, fighting. He was a master bows-man and could hit anything in his sight, sometimes things that he previously could not see. Ryuu, however, did not pick up this trait at all.
That was the ironic thing of meeting that one special person. Besides there being frighteningly similar man who appeared to be a mirror image and personality of his father, Jack, it was the fact that his boyfriend's other dad, Hikaru, was a master swordsman and taught Ryuu so much of what he now knew. Of course, he couldn't be appropriately called Ryuu's boyfriend anymore, not since he went missing. It was the reason that the male was always out and about anyways. Always visiting the far town on the other side of Saoirse, called Rift, checking up on the other's family.
Yet... he was always compelled to stop by the city of Saoirse. Something about that area just... pulled him to that city. Some voice in his mind told him to go. There was an obligation to go.
"Are you going to visit Mark and Hikaru today?" the words of Kurai brought Ryuu out of his thoughts and made him blink looking at the man of Nihon blood. Looking up at Jack and then back at his otosan.
"I..." there was hesitation. The sound of boots leaving the room processed in his mind as he looked into the fire. That was a rather good idea, wasn't it? He hadn't gone there in a few weeks, it was about due time that he checked up on the other couple that acted like a family with him. After all, he had known them since he was merely ten years old.
"Well, ya might wanna get yer pack 'n stuff, as it'll be a while since ya went over there. Yer goin' by foot, right?" Jack's question made him snap up to look over at his father. He was already grabbing the thing necessary for the travel. The fishing and herb pouches, a pack for water, his sleeping pack and food.
"I might not go straight there," Ryuu stated with a small shift of his weight, looking over at the freshly made bread by his otosan. "There is something I might do first. A gut feeling."
About an hour later, after a quick bite to eat and a mall farewell to his parents, Ryuu was traveling back down the mountainside, the sun having risen up over the peaks. His cloak was over his shoulders, his swords right where he usually had them and his pack over his back, being well prepared for the travel. Jack always gave him about 150 Talons to carry around as there was always a chance for a storm. And despite loving the outdoors more than a inn, to keep his parents from worrying, the male usually stayed in an inn if he felt a storm nearby.
Boots crunching on the stone road that was more evenly and well placed the farther he walked, it was about two hours worth of walking to get to Soairse. Ryuu had just started walking, of course, but it wouldn't take him that long to get there. Now, to get to Rift, it would take about a day's worth of traveling as it was so far away. Most of the time, the wolfish male tried to avoid the capital of the hold, but even so... this time he felt like he was more pulled.

Ingrith ▼ ▼ ▼ "Dear Karma, I have a list of people you missed.”
Whenever tension coursed through Ingrith’s pulsing veins, she liked to rest her hand on the gray stone around her neck, gently playing with the smooth object between her thumb and index finger like a child seeking the comfort of their favorite possession. She could never truly remember where she’d found the stone fastened around her throat, though it was something that had always subdued her temper during the moments that truly counted. And it was this very moment when she eyed the faded picture of a young woman that Ingrith certainly felt her muscles tighten with a faint sense of bemusement.
Though the seemingly bronze-skinned woman’s eyes were nothing but ink on paper, they seemed to possess a dangerous glint, as if she were eyeing each and every covert corner of the alleyways and streets. A toothy grin danced across her lips, veiling a world of secrets and challenging those who dared to approach. There were other wanted posters as well that surrounded that of the nefarious woman’s, and Ingrith only rubbed the back of her neck with a slightly quirked eyebrow. Well, this was bad. Any moment now, and someone would surely recognise that the woman in the poster was a flawless reflection of herself. Besides, the number scribbled below her name was as plump as ever, enough to tempt the hiding wolves among the yawning shadows, and she had no intention of running into them today. She liked it very much when there wasn’t a knife protruding from her abdomen, after all.
Tugging her own dark locks with her calloused hand, she swivelled around and headed away from the rows of posters, each and every crinkled sheet depicting a different individual. Every gaze, though portrayed with ink, seemed to tell a story, some much more egregious than others. She even recognized a few of them and who they were. Kija Caldwell, Brinely Hath, Suwon Gidget. They all had a life — a story that was different from those around themselves — and yet they were denounced to nothing but rats in rags. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a bird soaring across the sky, causing a small crease to form between her eyebrows. Legna my sanity, she thought with a small huff as she headed deeper into the crooked alleyway. Just thinking of those yellow wings spreading, as if of to catch a drifting wind to take flight, made her stomach gyrate. Marriage and love were two very foreign words for Ingrith, indeed.
As she passed by a thin, old man leaning against the muddy walls with a worn cloth tucked over his shoulders, she paused in her tracks. He was so thin that it felt as if the slightest push would send him sprawling across the floor, and the dark moons beneath his eyes told her that he'd seen things that no man deserved to see. What was left of his beard remained in wisps of white, and his breathing was laboured, rattling in his chest before exiting. With a soft cluck of her tongue, Ingrith bent down to place a small rusty coin in the dirtied can before his haggard feet. It landed with a small clink. She didn’t look up to see if he’d even noticed the brief gesture, though, and instead continued to move in the direction she had been before. Most of the folks here weren’t the most friendly, and in her eyes, some didn’t even seem to be alive despite how their chests rose and fell with breath. But she swore she heard a weak "thank you" being wheezed from behind, and she forced herself to remain steady even as she felt her chest tighten.
It was then an image resurfaced in her head, and in that duration, she halted entirely, feeling her legs numb, as if they’d been struck with a surge of ice. Darkness enveloped her, like a thick fog wreathing over the city, and for a moment, she was a little girl again, standing face-to-face with a tall, greasy woman with tangled hair and dilated, wild eyes. There was a pungent, vile odour that permeated the thick, burgundy air and sharply penetrated her pauper’s nose. It took every ounce of her will to swallow the bile that rose in her throat. Snap out of it. Gently resting her hand on her forehead, Ingrith drew in a deep breath. She was used to watching blood spray from the mouths of greedy men who struggled against a blade, but sometimes, sometimes she wondered when that individual trembling on the blade would be herself. Sweet and taunting whispers cheered in her head before quieting down from the sensation of a small tug.
This again, she thought to herself, feeling something like a bond — an urgent line that tethered her somewhere — pull her away from the swirling memories and vibrant images. Every time this occurred, it felt as if a transparent hand were guiding her, gently steering her around from the shadows just as her mother would have done when she had been far more younger and naive. But to where was this hand leading her? Where could a trapped mongrel go when it was surrounded by rusty bars? What sort of obligation was this?
She was hauled out of her thoughts when she felt something cold against the back of her neck, sending violent chills down her spine. The moment the tip of a blade was against Ingrith’s throat, the warm touch of the guiding hand vanished, leaving her with a towering wall in front of herself with no possible route of escape.
“Ingrith, yes?” The voice behind her asked. The tone of this man’s voice indicated that he was unmistakably smiling. “Looks like this is my lucky day.”
~
Feeling the breeze caress her bruised cheek and watching the golden glow of the sun peak over the mountains, reaching even where she sat leaning against the thick bark of a tree, Ingrith let the memories of the last few days wash over her. The wanted poster, the prize money, the haggard old man, and the knife against her throat all seemed like yesterday’s events, and yet here she was, out in the open, battered and beaten to the point it felt impossible to rise again. An obligation, she remembered faintly as the corners of her eyes blurred. There had been some obligation to head towards Soairse (why, she did not know, perhaps because of its location) after the man with the knife had almost caught her, when she’d been running, forcing her thighs to take her away to anywhere but that place. She was certain that those men would be out looking for her, crawling around every crook to obtain the money that was promised if they could manage to exchange her, dead or alive. She wouldn’t be able to return to that city — at least, not for a long while.
No, she thought to herself with her eyes narrowing the slightest bit thought. That man hadn’t almost caught her. At the time, he had. And he hadn’t been alone. It was easy to stealthily make her way into a building to “borrow” something, especially if the infiltration was well-thought out, and fighting a few people at a time came naturally. In the streets where she lived, you were placed in one category or the other: the ones who were devoured, and the ones who did the devouring. If you couldn’t defend yourself or handle a few hostile individuals, breathing became a valuable luxury, indeed. But the amount of people he’d brought had surpassed that of her capability, and she’d let herself be overwhelmed, outnumbered, and eventually, battered. She was lucky that she had been able to escape their grimy grasp, but her knowledge of the streets had come from the years of weaving herself in and out of its untouched alleyways. It was her understanding of each brick and stone that let her make her way outside and travel until her feet could carry her no more.
There was a dull throb in her head now that she was awake, though the stab of hunger in her stomach was as piercing as ever, a sharp twist that reminded her that she needed something to eat, or she was good as dead. But it had taken a great amount of strength and will to even navigate her way up to this point with her injuries, and so she found that, upon attempting to rise, she felt herself buckle, and eventually collapse back against the tree. Besides, she was exhausted and cold. Those thieves were more persistent than a badger trying to snatch some honey from a beehive, and if she hadn't pushed herself to move farther, she surely would have been caught once more. Fire was impossible to light for the time being — not when its smoke would be detected from so far away. At least I’ll be alone. The thought flickered past her head when she spotted a few flowers dancing in the wind. The same flowers she'd been seeing for a day or two, now. But she would rather die alone an surrounded by the towering trees and the lively grass and mountains, spotting one more creature hastily burrowing their way underground, than be dead, encircled by those greedy thugs. Or perhaps she was simply overreacting and all she needed was fall asleep for a long time to recover. Yeah, that was probably it.
The obligation, her head seemed to tell her, though she silently battered it away when she felt her world tilt again. Give me a break. The image of her home slipped into her mind. It was a wooden place that was almost broken due to its age, and it was so small that it could only fit herself and possibly another small individual. A broken mirror sat on the floor — one that she had also picked up from the pile of discarded objects — and so had a few sheets of cloth spread out across the wood to serve as a resemblance of a bed. She welcomed solitude, but now that she was truly and utterly alone, she had to admit that a small part of her longed to return back to that ragged place. Legna forbid it, she couldn't believe that she was admitting to herself that she missed it. The small creaks of wood when she took a step towards her door, the dusty scent that permeated the air, the alleyway that spread before her when she took a step to the side just before her home…
She found her hand lightly touching the crinkled book hidden in her pouch that was usually slung across her shoulder, which was now scrawled out beside her like the messy scribbling of a young writer. It was the only possession of hers that she truly valued, because it had given her meaning. It had been her small spark of interest and hope — two childish yet refreshing and necessary things for her — at the time, and if it hadn't been for this book, this small bundle of yellowed paper, she was certain that she wouldn’t have made it this far. She wished she was back in her home, reading it with its rough texture in between her fingertips, just like she had as a youth curled up in the corner of her room.
( it does, nerf, thank you :-) i fixed her form so hopefully it looks a little better now as for this starter... forgive me if it's a little messy; )

Nichol Eyre
"No act of kindness is ever wasted, no matter how small." ♆ ♆ ♆ ♆
It was just before dawn when Nichol rose for the day, the sun creeping in through the window. His neck ached from falling asleep on a strange angle, and his back was sore from all the heavy work he'd done the day before. Yawning until his jaw cracked, Nichol rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He'd fallen into a sort of schedule these days. Rolling out of his cot, he stretched until his back cracked, and headed downstairs.
Filling a pail with water to bring for the chickens, he watched the cold water bubble in the bucket. He stepped lightly as he went for the door, hoping that he could squeeze in some of the morning chores before some of his siblings left. Cedric had already left to find his pull in life, but Will, Andrea, and the twins, Victoria and Marie were still on the farm. Nichol was pretty sure that there would come the day when they would leave the farm, just as Cedric had. He bit his lip, chewing back the frustration that rolled in his stomach. He hadn't had a choice, but it was the right thing to do. Ma had offered him the chance to leave the farm, but he hadn't taken it. There was no one to blame but him for his shortcomings.
Absentmindedly he opened to the coop for the chickens, who scrambled over each other to get out. The scratched at the ground, clucking and pecking at yesterday's feed. Nichol scattered more feed on the ground, watching the chickens squawk and peck the ground. Grabbing the basket on the gate that he had left the day before, he moved around towards the back of the coop. The chickens had laid a couple of eggs, and by today there'd be enough eggs to take into town to sell. He could probably bring some other crops or homemade preservatives to town and reap a decent profit.
Gathering the eggs into the basket, he moved back towards the house. Victoria and Marie were already waiting for him by the door, asking what was for breakfast. He held back a sigh, instead mustering a cheery smile. "I was planning on cutting some fruit and making some grits."
"Ok!" Victoria and Marie were both wearing the same outfit, something they did to try to trick him. It never did work, but Nichol would play along some days.
"Can you set the-" Before he had finished his sentence, the two had bounced off upstairs, taking the stairs two at a time. He frowned, knowing that they would most likely wake up Andrea and Will. Will would most likely be in some sort of bad mood, and Nichol wasn't sure he wanted to deal with his lip this early in the morning. He tried so hard every day...
Looking up, he nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw Ma at the top of the stairs. She was gaunt and pale. Thin from all the days he'd brought food to her room, but found it sitting outside the door within the hour. He allowed himself a small sigh, going up the stairs to greet her.
"Good morning," He said wearily, searching her face to figure out what kind of mood she was in today. This time, she seemed to have a smile on her face. Seemed to.
"Nichol! I have good news!" Her voice was light and lilting like it had once been, without cracking or wavering. The sound brought a smile to Nichol's face, and he blinked up at her, bemused. "I found a replacement for you! You can finally leave the house!"
The words stung Nichol. All he heard was that she didn't need him anymore, that she'd found someone who could do it better. She continued on. "A young man came by last night seeking shelter in exchange for his services." She yammered more about him, how he was so tired and ragged and all, but Nichol was barely listening. He just nodded his head absent-mindedly and turned away.
~ Nichol hadn't taken long to pack his stuff, seeing as he didn't have very much to his name, but it was starting to get dark when he finally set out. His mother stood in the doorframe, waving him off. He didn't turn back once, instead heading for the woods. The trees loomed above him, swaying in the slight wind. Nichol had already planned to go to Saoirse. For some reason, it was just the obvious place to go. He couldn't put his thumb on exactly why, but it didn't trouble his mind too much as he set on his way.
What really rested on his mind was the betrayal he'd felt. He'd spent all of his life raising the family, and he'd just lost it all to a haggard stranger looking for a place to stay. His frown deepened at the thought of him moving into his room. Whatever was to happen, it was too late now to go back to the farm. As far as he was concerned, he didn't have a purpose, at the moment.
[ Agh, sorry it's so rushed. I had to get this up before my sister gets back from her sport. We're doing her birthday today. I hope this gets across the general idea. ]
