Ingrith ▼ ▼ ▼ "Dear Karma, I have a list of people you missed.”
It was after Nichol gave his answer that Ingrith realized her ankle felt better - almost as if it hadn't been twisted in the first place, and the results of that chase hadn't happened at all. The tips of her fingers gently touched her own cheek. The bruise seemed to have vanished, as well, much to her bemusement.
There's no second time, love. Consider yourself lucky, she heard the Sabertooth's velvety voice in her head, dark, mischievous, and alluring, almost sounding like the feminine version of Aristide himself, when he was working and pulling the strings of an orchestrated scheme with a lopsided grin. For a moment, she thought she could see the gllimmering face of a woman with short dark hair and two coiled braids tucked behind her left year. She had dark, amused golden eyes. Ingrith thought that her orbs had stolen light from the sun itself. She was beautiful. The large head of a Sabertooth Cat rested upon that of her own, and a smile - one full of secrets, ferocity, and warmth - seemed to dance across her lips, similarily to her own reflection, before fading in the blink of an eye. Ingrith didn't have enough time to let her thoughts linger on the emergence of the woman, however, and instead had to turn back to focus on pacing herself. Curiosity and wonder gnawed at her, but she was certain that had not been the last of the woman and her bewitching gaze. She didn't know how she knew; she just had a creditable hunch.
Briefly, she glanced back at the others and their different forms. They were all gathered. Each and every individual with a different story to tell, each with a different sense of morality and ideals and personalities. The thought still hadn't registered in her mind properly. Perhaps it was because she could not yet believe that they were all truly here, all truly together, traveling towards the one city that had tied them together. Saoirse.
Take care, love. Remember - do not fear any longer. This time, there are those who are willing to catch you. And you, in return, must do the same. Fight for them, Ingrith. Keep them safe.
I will, she vowed to herself, silently, her brows knitting together, though her lips remained slightly curved, tugged up into the smallest hint of a smile. Vows and promises were not things that won Ingrith's favour. After all, promise after promise, she'd seen them all broken in the end, over and over, one after another, and had eventually grown numb to its effects, letting the convincing words one spoke flow out of her ears like an endless river, never quite pausing to register them. Never trust another thief. It took a great amount of confidence for her to make one, too. Not just because she knew how little she realized it'd meant in the alleyways, but because she was well aware that there would be unpredictable situations that would warp a promise, and she would not be able to fulfill it. Every day had been a hazardous day, for her and the rest of the crew. That was something she did not want to happen, ever again, if she could avoid it. She smiled in grim pleasure as she memories flashed by her eyes, then felt a jab of sadness, and pushed Malin's face out of her head. It'd been rare for Aristide to make a genuiune promise, too. But when he did, he never broke it, contradicting the thoughts of many. Perhaps she'd picked up that trait from him.
"Oh, don't worry, my dear. You needn't worry about it. Frankly, they have something that belongs to me, and I always get back what's mine." It'd been the last vow he'd made in his own words before he'd evaporated into thin air.
She shook the thought out of her head. It wasn't helping, remembering all that had happened before his disappearance. I mean to keep mine. Just as she'd felt the lack of his presence, she felt the presence of the entity in her head fade, and she caught sight of the other animals vanish as well. She thought that she saw something else - a much larger being - shimmer above them all, elegant, poised, and graceful, before dissipating like the rest. She slowed her pace a little, watching the space it'd vanished, at the leisurely yet steadily passing clouds.
The city. They'd run quite a bit, hadn't they? She glanced over her shoulder to regard the others, wondering if they felt out of breath. For some reason, she wasn't - after all, underneath her clothes, she was surprisingly well-toned due to the frequent necessity of leaping, tumbling, sprinting, and climbing her past life had required. Like a spider. Or a cat. She left her head to calculate for a bit, thinking of the distance they had left with the amount they'd run. She supposed they had around ine to eleven miles to go. Maybe ten. It was around those numbers for certain. Aside from Saoirse, since it was close by and a place she'd travelled with Aristide and a few others from time to time due to certain "trades," she was not familiar with other places, and the unfamiliarity - something that was supposed to make her feel anxious - of the vast world made her heart swell. At the moment, she felt like she could do anything. Normally, it wasn't a thought that intruded on her mind, as she'd been aware that any day could have been and still could be her last, but it was nice to think of in such a long time.
"Short-cuts do sound nice," she said as she turned so that her eyes could meet those of their leader's when he broke the temporary silence that had settled amongst them. Twice a week? That surely wasn't a small amount, though she decided against asking him of the matter. Something told her that it could be related to what he'd spoken of before, and that topic, she thought to herself, wasn't really meant to be treaded upon without thought. Her honey-brown orbs flickered over to the path when Ryuujin continued, trailing the conversation over to one about fishing and hunting, and she let a lopsided smile slip when she glanced over at Nichol. She didn't know why, but an image of the tall man's distressed expression from earlier emerged in her head, and so had his tight words, which had been spoken with great uncertainty.
"Maybe I'm just a coincidence. I don't know anything about fighting like you, Ryuujin. I'm just a poor farmer."
"All of us will most likely be starving if it isn't for the both of you," she said while turning her head back to face the path they were walking. "We'll be relying on your hunting skills and teachings, Nichol, Ryuujin. Say, I know," she said, resting her hand on her slender waist with her eyebrows slightly raised. She'd almost said Ryuu aniki right then and there. "When we all get to hopefully become a decent hunter, we should try and hold a small competition. You know, see who can catch the most for the rest of the group." Maybe something as small as that would keep the mood of their group somewhat light-hearted and alive. It had often been the small things that had kept Aristide's crew afloat and connected, back when it had still thrived, after all. Not that she was trying to compare this group to that of the past, since they were entirely different people, but... still.
She fell silent when he spoke of his parents, though, listening as attentively as her mind would let her. The love that he held in his voice when he spoke of them was so warm and delicate - something that she could clearly sense, even if it had not been spelled out into words. She wondered what it must feel like to harness that same love and joy.
"It is a nightmare to have our parents together."
I wouldn't know, she thought, surprised to find that her mind held no bitterness when she did. Perhaps a bit of longing and a lingering sense of wonder, but that was all. "They sound like nice people," she said, the light in her eyes a little more subdued and quiet, the slight smile on her lips sheepish and very subtly distant, as if she were lost in a trail of thought while straining to find an answer. She rubbed the back of her neck as she eyed a squirrel skittering across the floor, its little feet carrying it so fast, almost to the point where she thought it'd fly. The sight amused her, just a little, for no absolute reason. Perhaps it was just because the sight of the critter, small and nearly powerless against its predators yet wanting to desperately survive as it took care of itself and most likely a family of its own, was something that she found to be admirable. "If you don't mind me asking, what were they like?" Then she smiled, for real this time. "If they have your sense of humour, I might ask them for a small lesson regarding jokes. Someone once told me that I have no sense of humour. They said that a long time ago, but they stuck to their word till the end. If I do meet them again... Maybe I'll be able to prove them wrong." Her attention perked once more when she heard her name.
"Ingrith, you had asked earlier how I feel about canines when they are around me? Their emotions, their names and what they do, that is what I can... feel. They feel what I do and they respond to my emotions as I respond to theirs. If there is an injured vixen or a lost pup, I can sense them and give them aid. I know when a pack of wolves in on the hunt or when a tamed dog is playing with the farm children."
The explanation was more than relatable, actually. It could be absolute nonsense to others, but for her - and she was certain it was something similar for the rest as well -made sense. From what she knew, cats were aloof, watchful, intuitive, and aristocratic - perhaps not the most friendly creatures on sight, but playful and loving when their barriers were breached. For some reason, they'd reacted positively whenever she was around, oftentimes coming to brush against her leg before departing.
"Do not mention anything of the sort around them."
Of course. Her eyes narrowed when she watched their armours gleam in the light. She was well aware that the slightest indication of sorcery or magic would serve them death. A life in a cell was a life she'd heard of too often, and she wasn't eager to rot in prison like those unknown names that had vanished from the streets. For a moment, the knot in her stomach changed into something raw and ugly. Guards and nobles - they sore sights in her eyes, indeed. She remembered those rich women with their polished nails sneering at her, then looking down on the few honest workers who'd remained in the Hartz Hold. The gleams of the jewels that had been wrapped around their thin wrists had hurt her eyes. And those men with their fine clothes and their expensive possessions as they flaunted it on the streets, talking of women and men so fouly as if lives were some object they could toy with until they were finally bored. Her lips drew back a little in sharp distaste. The guards there, who she'd once thought of as protectors of the innocent, had been corrupt, easy to bribe, and all the deaths that had had encircled her had slid deliberately past their eyes, unnoticed. Those pesks should die, already, a familiar voice rang in her head, and she felt her muscles numb. Aristide? What a joke. They're like walking parasites.
Malin.
But the man's voice faded, because now there was a high whine in her ears that almost made her wince. How different were these guards from the corrupt ones she'd lived her entire life seeing? She'd used their shame to her favour in some schemes - to avoid herself and her crew from being slaughtered - because nothing was better than knowing and using the knowledge of what they did when they thought no one was looking to their advantage. Mostly to escape certain death from the wrong end of a blade. She hated herself for letting her eyes flicker over to the two most noble-looking women of their group, because her need to keep them safe - her trust and familiarity in them - was something that she felt so overwhelmingly. But a deep, subconsciously drifting, and dark part of her mind, one she did not want to admit of existing, couldn't help but wonder: how different are they?
No, they're not the same. I swore I'd fight for them. I'm not turning back on my word, she combated those dark, whispers that cheered in her head, swatting them away, nearly snarling at their sweetly twisted words. When they became silent, as if they'd melted back into the shadows that had conjured them, she grit her teeth together. You just wait and see. They won't be the same.
"Good day," one of the passing guards stated with a dip of his head. She was certain some of the others would return the greeting, and just for the sake of keeping herself from being too stiff, she reluctantly dipped her head in their direction as well, though the dangerous mischievous light in her eyes had slowly started to return once more, and her shoulders soon loosened.
"Don't let your mask fall off. It'll give you away. Be a little more relaxed, Ingrith. There, that's it. And divines above, would it kill you to smile?"
"If only death came that quickly, Aristide."
So she wore one, too, just like their metal ones. It was then she realized that Ryuujin had moved directly beside her, almost protectively, with that same wolfish look in his eyes aimed at those guards. For some reason, his lupine demeanour did not frighten her, which was strange, considering the fact that cats seemed to desperately flee at the sight of a running dog, but that was besides the point. Perhaps it was because they both belonged to two large, carnivorous predators. Had he moved because he remembered what she'd said before? Or was it because he'd perhaps figured out her identity? She wouldn't be too surprised if he had. He seemed perceptive - a lot of the people here, did. In any case, she still appreciated his consideration, whatever the motive had been.
Her gaze remained on the path, silent, until she knew they'd finally gone out of ear's reach, mixing in with the colors of the (wind) forest. The view of the guarded city emerged, and she observed it, trying to memorize the beautiful sight of the rolling hills and the distant city, taking in every detail she could as she heard Ryuujin speak with Cefe - was it fine if she called her that, too? - about her horse. "Speaking about him," she said with her eyes turning to the fine horse, then over to her. "What's his name?"

Tafari
✵✺✵
"Keep staring like you've never seen the stars"
✵✺✵
It felt so good to be running again. Ever since she'd left her home, Tafari had been walking, and all this slowness made her back ache. There was simply too much leg in her body to make ambling worth the pains. She'd always been a good runner, though as a child, she never really joined any team, and one couldn't simply approach a group of other children and ask them if they wanted to run around for fun. Running with the others was invigorating, her long legs pumping and her flowing sleeves catching the wind. It was not wholly unlike what she'd felt in her dreams, and the thought made her grin ear to ear, which were bouncing wildly due to her heavy earrings. The forest paths became more mountainous and she sprung about from boulder to boulder, up and around the paths; she loved woodland areas, but she was raised in Beatha after all, and no child of the Wilds Hold was uncertain on steep precipices.
They slowed to a stop and she found herself still grinning, sucking in huge mouthful and freezing cold air. How far had they run? Miles, at least. The sun had moved further towards the horizion, and she was even more thankful for her lantern. Tafari raised it to her own eye level, which seemed like yards above some of her new found friends. Cefe may've been on a horse, but Tafari had seen her legs at full height earlier, and knew their true extent. She threw her head back and stared up at the endless sky, though it was starless yet. That was a shame, not only due to her fondness of them, but also because it would be a relief to be able to reorient herself with the constellations. She tilted her head back down, breath slowly levelling out, whistling a little through the gap in her teeth.
Tafari had never been embarrassed of that gap, plenty of women in her town had it, and some men too. It was considered a sign of beauty in some parts, but since stepping foot over the border, the gap had all but vanished from everyone she met. It was just another piece of home she'd left behind, wasn't it? Funny how such little things became so valuable to you over time.
She did her best to follow the conversation, and definitely heard the word for 'hunting' a couple of times. When Ingrith spoke, it was somewhat easier to understand her; her accent was smoother, and she never talked as if she was in a hurry, so Tafari had time to process what she was hearing. The tall woman pouted a little, "I am not good hunter. Lose competition very quickly." Her lips turned up in a slightly mischievous smile, "We could have longest leg competition. Or drinking game." How strong were the spirits in Saoirse? Tafari had always had a knack for holding her liquor, maybe it was because of her size, it just took the alcohol a long time to get to her. Ryuu was talking about something to do with dogs, she kept hearing the word. A connection? Like the tug she felt to the others? Perhaps. She'd always been good with the deer in the forest, and always hid in her room when the hunting patrols went out, but she'd never considered it anything special. Maybe his feeling was stronger.
When the guards came into view, she felt no fear, or anything really. The guards in Beatha did their best, but it wasn't much. Or maybe they were just lazy. Either way, her home was not always a very safe place to live. She was used to seeing the guards on patrol, and never had any reason to fear them, her family normally got on quite well with the authorities. There had been occasions, of course, when she was younger and the guards would march her home after being caught too far out on the cliffs, or in the woods instead of in school.
She could remember one incident very clearly, she must've been about nine of ten. By this stage Kunto, Zola and little Zuri had all been born, and it looked like her mother could be pregnant again. She was pretty emotional at times, and though Tafari did her best to keep things easy for her, that day her mother had just burst into tears after the guards left. Her father was off feeding the baby, and Tafari was frozen. She'd never seen her mother, strong short tempered and skillful, vulnerable before. Her mother just sat there, crying, covering her face like she was ashamed. At the time, the whole thing was so distressing and confusing that Tafari started to cry too, She wanted to put her arms around her mother and for them to both stop, but she just backed away, sniveling. Qinisela came in, eventually, shooed Tafari off to bed early and took care of his wife, and the next day, no one spoke about it. Tafari wasn't even in trouble for skipping school again. Her father did try to speak to her alone however;
"Why do you keep leaving class, Tafari?" She just shrugged "No, tell me why. " "I want to." "You can't always do what you want." "But it's a big want. I have to." "You have to? What do you mean?"
She couldn't answer, and eventually the subject was dropped. Tafari hadn't thought about that day for a long time, but the sight of the marching guards made it all come rushing back. As they passed, she said nothing, just gave them a slow nod of acknowledgment and kept her mouth shut. It was hard to tell what they were thinking with those masks on. Ryuu spoke to Cefe then, and she didn't bother trying to listen. Cefe's horse was nice, though she never quite trusted horses. They were so large, and muscular, she preferred the delicate step of her beloved deer, though horses normally let you get much closer. The city loomed before them suddenly, huge gates. She reached out a long arm and touched her palm against the cold metal, sometime she just needed to feel things for herself. "Big gates," She nodded in appreciation. You don't get raised by a whitesmith and then not come to recognize nice metal work, "Is there overly big key?"

I had a lot of free time today, so I drew little icons of everyone's characters! everyone in this rp uses nice coding so I thought it might be cute to have a little avatar at the top? Ofc, you don't have to use them, i don't mind. sorry if your character doesn't look quite right!! Sometimes I made assumptions, particularly w/ amoux if I'm being honest. bc everyone has tan skin and dark skin, no one acc looks tan in comparison lol and everyone but Ryuu looks super young,,, i should have given everyone a beard to make them look older,,, i tried to colour code the colour of their little circles to everyone's coding c:' but, like i said, it's cool if you don't want to use one ^^' i had fun making them ~

[ awe. that is actually really cool! for ryuu, he does have a beard though. a goatee, actually, but still. he is... a hybird of hanzo shimada and jesse mccree when it comes to looks. and amoux is sort of the same, but no beard and short, black hair. it is... hard to explain with amoux.
but i absolutely adore these. ]

They are so awesome! You captured her attitude so well. XD I know what you mean by everyone being dark featured. I was actually think of changing Cefe's design just to add a little diversity to the group. Thank you for drawing her even though her design will probably change a little. XD You are a amazing artist!!)
Edit: I went ahead and changed Cefe's design and race, just to have someone of none dark features in the group. XD)

Nichol Eyre
"Your heart knows things your mind can’t explain.” ♆ ♆ ♆ ♆
The animals disappeared shortly after they started running, but Nichol could still feel the energy pulsing through his veins. Something about the animals had made him feel more... empowered. Right now, he was sure he could do anything that the Divines needed him, he could do it better than they needed him to do. He promised himself then and there that whatever he set his mind to for this quest, he would strive to do his best. Nichol never broke his promises, which is why he rarely made them.
When the word quest popped into his mind, it was almost as if it wasn't his own words. He hadn't thought of their journey like that. Quests were for groups of heroes and warriors, off to save the world. What possibly could be the purpose of their mission?
Nichol did another cartwheel into a backflip, barely losing his stride or speed. Clumsy as he was, he had spent many a day entertaining the littles, in any way possible. The last thing he wanted was for them to feel like they lived a small life on the farm, as he felt, so he filled their days to the brim with things to do. The least he could do was give them good memories. He had also made sure that they remembered him as a great brother, though he felt a little selfish making some of their memories about him.
His childish side was showing through, but who could blame him? Everything seemed to be imaginary! Talking spirits, this whole idea felt like something he'd pulled out of a little child's tale. He grinned at the others, hoping they would return one of their own.
Salmon jumped up the stream, but Nichol didn't feel hungry in the slightest. His heels didn't ache from the hard running, even if he was used to being on his feet all day, he never ran like this. The stone walls came into view, and everything became real. They were really about to do this, about to start their calling. All at the same time, Nichol felt excited, yet anxious.
Nichol was happy to listen to Ryuujin's small talk about shortcuts and hunting tips, remembering every word of it. This would be helpful if he wanted to get back into hunting larger game. He already knew much about snares, but larger game were difficult for him to catch.
At Ryuujin's words, Nichol's mind flickered back to the time when he was 13. A horse had spooked, and was racing down the street, carriage barely clinging to its back. He had jumped into the street to calm the horse, standing right in its path. It had skidded to a halt, stopping so closely to him that his nose was inches away from its great chest, its head was practically resting upon his own. He had caused a great calamity, and had to play it off as always being good with horses. From then on he was often called to help calm horses when putting on their horses, or called at birthing. The tight knit elven community had grown to know and love him, when he wasn't doing farm work.
Some days Nichol felt wicked for pitying himself and his family for their humble lives. Some people didn't have parents at all, they grew up alone. Some people didn't have a farm, or work, and grew up on the streets. He didn't have it as bad as he felt he did some days.
He didn't have too much time to dwell on his thinking, because they had arrived at the gates. Seeing Ryuujin increase the confidence in his posture, Nichol did the same. He pulled the slump out of his back, rising to his full height. He looked each of the guards where he thought their eyes would be, but gave them a friendly smile as he passed by. He was glad that none of them were looking for a fight.
[ Sorry for short post, my muse is a little low at the moment. ]

Ceferinae Whelan "My dear, our souls met long before our eyes did." - A.P
☼☼ ☼ ☼☼
As the group's energy started to wane, Ceferinae slowed her horse to a walk. The mighty creature shook its mane and flared it's nostrils. The poor horse - despite having been almost supernaturally energized - was tried from all the running so she slipped down out of the saddle to relieve him of her weight, gripping the reigns in her left hand. Immediately, the horse's eyes brightened. Cefe padded the side of his neck and murmured a soft thanks to him before removing her pouch as well. The woman slung it over her back as the others settled into a slower pace. None of them looked even remotely tired; in fact, there was a wild look in their eyes as if the run had stirred their souls. Cefe know that her strange golden eyes held the same glint without having to ask. Despite the fact that her horse was the one that had carried her the last few miles, the energy and joy of the Divine spirits had seeped into all of their bones. Even her horse had run with a vigor she had never seen before.
The eagle fell into step with her fellow pack members, a small smile on her face. The city gates loomed ahead of her and for a minute, she was shocked to see how far they had come. It had taken her almost two months of traveling to arrive at the fabled Saoirse, and at some points she didn't know if she was going to make it. There were times in her journey that she was sure she would die, yet somehow she also stayed alive long enough to happen upon the next danger. Truly, she had been a fool to travel alone since she had never done it before. When her father traveled, he always hunted down other adventurous souls willing to brave foreign lands with him. She had refused to bring anyone along with her, proud and confident in her 'abilities'. But despite her mistakes, she had found her people and her destination loomed in front of her.
The others talked around her, lost in their conversations. "We could have longest leg competition. Or drinking game." Cefe's ears perked at the fragmented sentence, her lips curling in amusement, "Ah yes, that sounds lovely. If we can't find this William person then we can all drink our sorrows away." It came out more sarcastic than she meant it so she looked at the tall, mocha skinned woman with half apologetic eyes. The noblewoman was no stranger to what her mother called 'the Devil's Drink'. Any and all parties held by the elites of Keltair had choice wine and other strange concoctions that always looked better than they tasted. Her mother had despised the stuff, and Cefe was inclined to agree.
As they came close enough to the gates for Tafari to touch them, she trained her sharp gaze to the top. Guards paced back and forth across the top, looking down at the small group of misfits with wary eyes. As if on queue, two broad shouldered and heavily armored men lumbered into view. They eyed the group through their masks, but passed by with no questions about who they were and why they were approaching the hold. Vaguely, Ceferinae wondered if the aura of challenge from Ryuu had caused them to quicken their steps; maybe it was her imagination.
In Keltair, no one had a problem with the soldiers that wondered the edges of the Hold. After all, their one job was to protect the citizens; who would want to hinder their ability to do so? Of course, there had been the occasional skirmish with the guards over something trivial, but it always ended in a mutual agreement of some sort. Cefe had met plenty of guards in her lifetime and all of them had been upstanding caretakers. Could she say that about the men in front of her? Well, that would remain to be seen.
The blond haired woman gave them a demure smile and a respectful dip of her head as they passed by her, "Good day, gentlemen." The men returned the greeting and then went on their way quietly. She smirked. Not overly talkative, but at least they weren't aggressive.
She kept on her way, playing her own game of follow the leader. When Ryuu addressed her, she waited patiently until her was done speaking. She lips tightened into a line as she thought of her response. The pouch on her back was heavy with the golden and silver talons she had brought with her. It was wonder she hadn't been robbed by the bands of thugs she had seen on her way, "Do not worry about the fee. I can pay it." She said it simply, but she wasn't able to keep the hint of amusement out of her voice. Oh, if only the others knew her background; there wouldn't even be the need for the conversation. But that would remain her little secret. Was she a miser? Probably. Did she care? Not at the moment.
Cefe was just about to say something else to Ryuu when the dark haired woman of the group spoke to her. She turned, eyebrows raised slightly. It was the first chance that she got to truly look at the other female so she let her eyes take her in. The woman was ruggedly pretty as if life had shaped the way she presented and held herself. Her inky locks fell over her face making it hard to see her brown - no, honey - colored eyes. There was a shiftiness to her that reminded Cefe of the tabby cat that used to roam around her manor in the summer time: perceptive and ready to bolt at a moments notice. When the woman - had Ryuu referred to her as Ingrith? - looked at her squarely and asked about her horses name, the eagle tilted her head, "His name?"
If she was to be honest, she had never given the beast a name. It had never even occurred to her to give it one. Quickly she looked at the horse who she swore was judging her and pulled a name from thin air, "Traveler. His name is Traveler." She smiled slightly at the newly nameed horse, proud and slightly shocked she had picked such a fantastic name on such short notice. Sometimes, she surprised herself.

Ingrith ▼ ▼ ▼ "Dear Karma, I have a list of people you missed.”
"I am not good hunter. Lose competition very quickly. We could have longest leg competition. Or drinking game.”
The mischievous smile that had flickered across Tafari’s face made Ingrith raise an eyebrow before she continued to rest her hand on her waist with a slight tug of her lips. It was most certain that she was not the best at holding her liquor, but she wasn’t going to walk away from a challenge no matter how small it was. “It’s on,” she said, though she couldn’t help but worry just a little.
The last time she’d participated in a challenge that had involved liquor, well… things hadn’t ended in the most ideal way, that was for certain. All she could remember from that time was that it’d almost been the day they’d been caught by the callous guards, narrowly escaping their grasps with the guidance of the rest of the crew whose minds were much clearer. After that incident, she hadn’t touched that particular drink in a while. In any case, that was a tale to save for another day.
"Ah yes, that sounds lovely. If we can't find this William person then we can all drink our sorrows away.”
It was Cefe’s voice that had brought her attention back to the path that lay ahead of themselves, and she glanced over her shoulder just in time to see the striking young woman glance over at Tafari. She turned her head back to face the front, though, not staying to pick up what might have lingered in Cefe’s eyes. There would be more chances to get to know them all, and she didn’t want to be caught staring at the two other individuals. Well, she hadn’t been truly staring, but she thought that it could seem that way. She’d heard before that her gaze was quite sharp, after all, and it seemed to be an easy way to craft a misunderstanding.
Traveler. She tried repeating the name in her mind, as if to engrave that name to her memory. She wanted to commit all of their names to memory - no matter who they were, they’d still met together like this, and though it had been a peculiar meeting, she was certain that there was something more lying ahead of themselves that would unravel the reason for why they’d come together. She smiled. “That’s a fine name for a fine horse. It suits him,” she said as she glanced over at Traveler — was it just her imagination toying with her or did Traveler look as if he were judging Cefe? — before falling back a little to gently pet the large creature. Thought she hadn’t got too much time to interact with horses, she’d seen them before, traveling over the streets with filled wooden wagons, and her love for animals did stretch far. So to be here, carefully petting the large, gracious beast, was something that did make her happy.
“I think Ryuu called you Cefe earlier,” she started, her hand still running over the fur of Traveler, though she soon pulled her hand away to face the young woman. “Would you mind if I called you that, too?” Oh, she wasn't really good at these conversations. Rubbing the back of her neck, she tilted her head a little. “Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever introduced my name to you. I’m Ingrith.”
It was then she heard Tafari’s question and shook her head to the side, looking up to see the large, large gates. She was sure there was an oversized key or something that would get them in (she could only vaguely remember what Aristide had done to get them on the other side of the gates, and since their trips had been so rare and few and a long while back, her memories only seemed to remember how she felt awed by the sight of the city and not its specific details). “I’ve been alive for a while now, but I don't think I've ever seen such large gates,” she agreed, still feeling that same sense of wonder as she eyed the majestic the metal work. “Anyone got a large key with them?” She said with somewhat good-natured eyes as she leaned her weight on one side of her leg. Hopefully that didn't sound sarcastic - she hadn’t meant any in the slightest bit. Then, for the slimmest moment, she was left wondering if she'd be able to open them if she had an oversized lock pick.

[ so this was my early drawing sketch of Ryujin. i originally was going to have him be a master of the bow and arrow, but then me and my friend, nate, decided to switch up roles and he be the master of the sword instead, so the bow quiver had to be edited into a sword-sheathe and ohhhh boy is that difficult when you already drew in the lines HARD for the quiver. I edited to make it look less... horrible? I mean, I love the shading i did for him but just... insecurities, you know? And I like editing pictures so it was worth it... probably. this is a very early sketch and i can do way better now if i want to actually attempt to draw him in a better fashion. but this is what ryujin looks like. ]
