Ruby stumbled a bit in the beginning when she saw Maria begin to dance. A little unprepared she started after her, her movements a little quicker and more choppy as she tried to catch up. She did manage to stay with Maria a couple times but quickly fell behind again, mostly due to lack of technique and practice. She did well for a first timer, and actually remembered all the steps, but for Ruby, that wasn't enough. The girl pouted, dissatisfied with her performance.

As soon as the part they knew ended, Maria turned to face her sister, an apology clear on her face. "I'm sorry Ruby, I forgot I hadn't told you when to start. We'll try again and this time I won't forget." Maria promised, then saw the look on Ruby's face. "Ruby, it was my mistake. Don't feel bad about it. Anyone else would probably have done worse without the queues. I saw that you were with me for part of it."

Ruby brightened slightly at this, looking up. "Alright, I'll try again." She agreed. It was a valuable quality of hers. Most other eleven year olds would've probably gotten upset and quit about now, but Ruby was willing to give it another shot, especially if she knew she could do something better.

Maria smiled back, though this time when she started the music she was careful to count aloud, and to inform Ruby of the proper time to start the dance. She couldn't do anything about it being faster, so she just hoped, with the proper queues, that Ruby would be able to keep up. It was a relatively simple dance, so speeding it up too fast wasn't hard as long as you knew it well enough. As soon as they were done, she turned back to face Ruby again. "Do you want to learn some more, or do something else. I understand if you're getting bored of this."

With a proper que, Ruby did much better. Since it was a fairly simple dance, and she already knew the steps, she executed it quite well. The fast steps didn't bother her too much. Soccer practice had made her quick on her feet. When she finally stopped, she was slightly out of breath but giddy, her eyes sparkling. The question didn't even need asking. "More!" She exclaimed, wondrous at this new 'thing' she had discovered.

Maria nodded, then began to teach her another section of the dance. "Now this part is a little harder," she said, a few moves into the new section. She then launched herself into a traveling move that involved a rather intricate across the floor, and ended in jump. "It's pretty hard to learn just in section because each step uses the momentum from that last. That's why it more difficult. I can try to go through each part slowly if you're okay with them looking a little wonky?" Maria offered, trying to think through the step in simpler terms than she'd been taught it. It wasn't easier.

Ruby tipped her head to the side, trying to grasp the concept. Finally, she nodded. "Okay." She agreed. Certainly, it would be easier for the girl to observe if it was in slow motion. She backed up slightly to give her older sister some space, and sat down on the floor, looking up.

Maria bit her lip, face focused in a mask of concentration. She moved back to her original spot to give herself some more room, then took her first step. Her weight shifted far to quickly for the speed she was moving at, and so she wobbled considerably as she took the next step. Her arms moved easily enough, not really having a job to do other than add nice flourishes, and they only served to show how off-balance she was while doing the rest of the move. She did make it though at a more digestible rate, just making the move much uglier than it normally was.

Ruby watched closely, looking a bit relieved that the moves seemed easier to follow now. She did giggle at how strange it looked to see Maria wobble all over the place, when she was usually so graceful and surefooted. "Maria has chicken feet!" She giggled playfully, teasing her older sister affectionately. She then nodded. "Okay! I think I got all of that." She assured her.

"I do not have chicken feet!" Maria said, feigning insult. Then, she broke into a smile at Ruby's confidence. "Alright then, let me see it," she requested, leaning back against the wall she continuously almost ran into when ever she did the new section. It was a pretty big traveling move, and during the group dance, all the girls used it to move into a different shape on the dance floor.

Ruby swallowed a bit, trying not to show her nervousness. She wanted to do good for Maria, which made her a little bit reluctant, but she pushed her nervousness aside and decided to just go with it. She actually ended doing very well, now that she was getting into the swing of it. When she arrived at the traveling move, she pushed off harder due to being smaller than Maria, but years of soccer training had made her legs strong, and the leap was enough to get her to the finish. However, upon completing the move, Ruby had no idea how to secure the landing and her foot wobbled, and then her balance collapsed as she landed on the floor in a heap. "Ow..." She complained, clutching her knee. She looked more devastated than in pain, however, and was sure that she had messed everything up by falling. The girl looked up at Maria, tears beginning to well in her eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." She tried to apologize, sure that she had ruined it all.

"Ruby!" Maria shouted the second she saw the falling coming. She should have explained the landing more. She should have made Ruby go through it slowly as well. She'd been blindsided by how well Ruby was doing and had forgotten how careful they'd been when teaching the other girls. She dropped to her knees beside her sister, scanning for any obvious injuries. A bone could break under a lot less pressure than people expected. She'd seen it happen before. "Does anything hurt?" just as Ruby had begun to apologize. When she heard her sister, she stopped and looked at her face. "You didn't do anything wrong Ruby, I wasn't thinking about the landing when I taught you. Did you hurt yourself?"

Ruby moved her foot gingerly. Thankfully, it didn't seem like there was any lasting damage from the fall. Finally, she shook her head. "I'm alright. It wasn't too bad. I've gotten worse in soccer." She said, more to herself than to Maria. She wiped her eyes and carefully began to stand, only satisfied once she was able to put weight on her foot, before finally taking a deep breath. "W...Was it alright?" She asked, once she was sure she wasn't injured.

"Yeah, it was very good up until the part I didn't teach you properly." Maria said, watching Ruby closely. She wasn't as easily convinced that Ruby was fine, but she didn't want to worry her unless she had to. After she put her weight on it without too much trouble, she relaxed. Then she smiled at her sister's resilience. She'd just taken a pretty bad tumble, and was instantly asking if she'd down alright other than the fall. Maria wasn't sure she would have done that had a fall like that happened to her. "Do you want to go on or take a break for a bit? You did just fall pretty hard," Maria said, trying to show no preference either way.

(That's fine, I just ate ) Ruby wanted to go, and the conflict could be seen on her face. Finally, common sense won overpride, and she sighed. "I guess I'll take a break." She mumbled, sitting down with a small sigh. It was clear the fall had upset her. It was one of Ruby's traits, to feel down about something she could have done better in.

"Don't be too upset about it, okay? I know it sucks to fall, I was extremely frustrated the first time I messed something up like that. It's even worse when you get hurt. You remember when I pulled that muscle in my leg a year or two ago and had to sit out of all my dance classes for two weeks? I was so frustrated when it happened, like you are with this fall, but I knew that if tried to keep going it would just get worse. It's good that you're deciding to take a break. Your team doesn't need to lose you because I tried to teach you some dances," Maria said the last part jokingly, trying to cheer her up. It wasn't until after she finished speaking that she realized it may not have been the best choice of words.

Ruby was thoughtful after listening to the story, and finally nodded. "You're right." She said, seeming to cheer up. "After all, you were soooo squirmy when you were cooped up in bed!" She teased, poking her sister's side. She then straightened up. "The dance you're learning right now...is it for a competition?" She asked curiously. She had never been to a dance competition before. Usually, her games coincided, and she wasn't one to miss a practice for anything. With eleven siblings, no doubt their activities stretched thin for time.

"The lyrical one is. Ballet competitions are a lot harder, so we don't have any planed ones right now. The dance is mostly for the academy's seasonal dance recital. Plus I'm old enough I'm helping with the younger kids this year. But I've got two lyrical competitions coming up, one solo and one group, so two different dances." Maria smiled, remembering her last competition. She'd done pretty well, considering she had no plans to go highly professional. She sat beside Ruby, her feet idly pointing and flexing, as the always seemed to do.

(Sorry for the poof! Had stuff to finish)
Ruby didn't really understand what the different terms meant, but she could tell that it was a difficult endeavor. She assumed it was as difficult as soccer season was. "That sounds tough." She sympathized. She did know about the seasonal recital. She had attended those ever since she was old enough to tag along with the older girls. "What's dancing in a group like?" She asked curiously. From what she had experienced so far, dancing seemed like a solo sport to her. She couldn't fathom how it would be done in a team setting, like in her soccer games, where she interacted with her teammates through passing and blocking.

"Sometimes, everyone is all doing the same thing, and then it's about how together we are. That's like what I was teaching you. There also some dances where everyone is doing something at least slightly different, and it all fits together to make a cohesive hole. Most of the time though, it's a mix of both. Like when you watch a musical an there are group numbers where they all do the same dance, and then sometimes the main people break off and doing something else for a while?" Maria said, trying to equate the kinds of dancing they did to something her younger sister would understand. She'd begun to realize that a lot of her dance terminology that she'd known for years was completely foreign to someone with no dance experience.
(It's fine. I might disappear for a short time to take a quick shower. So if it takes me a while to respond that's why.)

(Agh sorry I'm so poofy @.@)
"I....think I get it." Ruby said after a while, although she wasn't quite sure she did. Nevertheless, it was an explanation, and as long as there was one, that was enough to satisfy her. Soon enough, the inquisitive girl had another question, a little closer to home this time. "Do you dance with booooooys?" She asked innocently, drawing out the last world in the typical preteen drawl of curiosity and teasing when it came to the subject.

"Noooo! Well... Not really. We have three boys in the program right now. Two are in the younger groups, so I won't really be dancing with them, but we do have one a year younger than me. Sometimes he's in my age group, sometimes he's in the lower group. When he's in my age group we have group dances, but I've never had a duet like what you're implying." Maria said. She'd truly never danced like most people though of, but that was mostly because there were never enough boys to go around. He usually choose to do the duets with girls slightly younger than himself, so he'd have less trouble lifting them if the dance called for it.

Hey! Sorry I haven't been active lately. Recently I've been wondering how many people are still interested in this roleplay? Not because of inactivity but I've been unmotivated to roleplay here. With school arriving and activities filling my schedule I don't want to continue my own inactivity. I'm sorry. If you are still interested please let me know. I'm not sure if this is popular enough for a remake or something of the sort but if someone is interested in taking charge of this roleplay then let me know and I'll get back to you!
