thank you!! I'm sorry for disappearing, my computer isn't working great :/// btw is your sig any reference to the Raven Cycle?)
She popped the piece of crepe in her mouth, man the food was good here. Maybe it was just because it was fresh, or because she was in a good mood, but it tasted divine. "More or less." She gave an easy shrug in return to his question, "I left Sonal with loading the rest of the crates, and that girl's never taken a rest in her life, so I reckon the ship is rip-roaring and ready to go." She added, thinking about it down in the docks and getting a little buzz of excitement. "So enjoy this warm weather while you can, it's westward sailing from here on out and it's only going to get colder." Cold weather was no friend to this strapping young woman, with rain came leaks and flues, and with snow came frozen water and the possibility of dying just by sleeping outdoors. "We've got just about everything we need," she ran through the list in her head, forgetting cutlery once more (Coran had, by this stage, bagged most of that poor cafe's utensils and a few napkins), "But, as my darling mother used to say, we can never have enough stuff. So speak your mind now if you think there's anything we should buy before we head out."
He didn't know what to say here. He really hadn't thought this through. Honestly, if he'd been questioned moments before, he doubted he would've made it this far. There was an awkward silence as Coran grasped at straws in his mind. What was normal conversation? The weather? No, he was not talking about the weather, that was social suicide. How each person was feeling? He doubted Kain was much of a sharer. Still, maybe a branch of that topic could work, "Are you excited for the trip?" He asked, taking another sip of his tea. This was a nice cup. He'd be taking that too. "I just can't believe that after all this planning, we're finally going, y'know? I kinda felt like we'd always be mulling around, just making plans." Noting Kain's glance to his notebook he closed it as inconspicuously as he could and gave his sweetest smile as to try and not seem rude. He could barely manage small talk with this guy, let alone let him read his poetry. "Grapefruit?" He offered, nudging his bowl of chopped fruit towards the other man. Underneath the table, Conall gave this newcomer's legs a careful sniff, was contented with what he smelt, and set his head down, returning to the endless panting.

Xavier was fairly certain Sonal got everything done and then some. She was a mountain of a woman and much to serious to waste time putting around the city, seeing sights and buying food. Xavier liked the heat much better than the cold, the sensation of the sun warming his skin was always refreshing and a comfort. Plus colder weather meant heavier clothes which he always found to be quite the drag. But he avoided complaining in front of the captain now, she would be hearing plenty of that on the boat. Especially if snow was involved. He hadn't experienced ice and snow thus far in all his travels and the thought was both thrilling and nerve wracking. He was certain the cold would damper is usually bright spirits. He tapped the pearl handle of one of his pistols thoughtfully at Whetu's mention of any further supplies he desired. He had enough ammunition and had been careful to pack light, but with all he needed despite only packing his bag the night before. He was much better under pressure and a poor planner anyway. "Nothing I need. Just ready for the open seas!" He replied with a shrug of his lanky shoulders before he took the last bite of his crepe. He didn't know much of the crew besides Whetu and Sonal, but he could only assume they were all unique and interesting people. Xavier had spent less time planning in a group setting since he was more of a doer, but he was sure the rest of the crew interested in helping had been there. The question was, would he get along with them.
Kain raised an unamused dark brow and he watched the gears turn in Coran's head, the boy struggled to think and finally blurted out a question. "Am I excited for the trip?" He asked, his voice possibly one tone away from mocking, or he was just making sure he heard right. "I suppose. More anticipating the reward." He replied shortly with a small shrug of his shoulders, his icy blue eyes were still trained on the navigator, but more with slight interest then scrutiny. There was one thing he could agree with. They were finally going, the planning had been painstaking but necessary for the success of the journey, although sometimes Kain was convinced these people would never get things moving and would offer input. Luckily Whetu was smart, unlike some people he had been forced to work under. He ran his fingers through his dark hair, ruffling the short strands. It was a habit when he was thinking. He watched Coran self consciously close the journal and he wondered if anything interesting was inside. Maybe he would steal it one day and investigate. He reminded himself that probably wouldn't be necessary, this kid didn't look like the type to have secret knowledge about their prize. He considered the offer of grapefruit and hesitated before reaching out to grab a slice from the bowl. It wasn't like him to take handouts from people, but if his mouth was full he could talk less. The dog nudged his leg and Kain glanced down. What was it's name? Coral? Conall? Too close to his owners name. He thought to himself as he took a bite from his grapefruit. "You're the navigator? What makes you qualified for that?" He asked.

@ Nessie - an age old struggle rip but I'm glad you're joining c:''' @ win - I really like trc :3 I'm not that found of the author, but I do like her writing style and I adore the concept of somewhere like 300 fox way existing. And yes, I love six of crows!! This was originally a six of crows rp, but I got a bit out of hand with the world-making and ditched that idea)
"That's what I like to hear," She nodded, turning her face towards the ocean, and squinting into the sun, "and honestly, I'm the same. Too much land is bad for the soul." She gave a little shudder, thinking back to several jaunts in several prisons and one time she'd been locked in a basement. Not fun. "Especially when the land is this place," she gave a little wave of her right hand, one tiny circle to indicate the entire country, "What a garish and pompous place." This was a bit rich coming from this particular captain, who didn't know the meaning of 'enough', but there was a difference between being proud and having pride, she'd often thought. This city was proud of the war, proud of it's conquests. Whetu had pride in herself and her future. Maybe it wouldn't hold up under intense scrutiny but it was an OK moral code for her, considering that her other ones were usually illegal and/or outrageous. "I can't wait to get the crew up and running, we've got some real special people working with us." She added, a mischievous glint in her eyes. One of her favourite things about life at sea was certainly the characters you got to meet, the ocean seemed to call to weirder people, and she was quite confident the crew she'd built up was more then unique enough to match whatever they'd find.
He just nodded and listened whilst the other man spoke, a bit embarrassed by his initial reaction and suddenly felt very childish. This man had an icy gaze that made him feel 8 again, and staring at the door to his headmaster's office. His left leg had started bouncing nervously, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to stop it once it got a real rhythm, so, as casually as one could, Coran pressed his hand firmly into his thigh and attempted to hold the leg in place. He got the fright of his life when Conall licked his hand, but, mercifully, managed to not squeal. That last question really caught him off guard. He considered fabricating a story out of the thin air, a fantastical legend that actually made him seem qualified, and if he weren't in the middle of a block he might've given in a shot. But he was, and he'd like to minimize how much he made a fool of himself today, thank you very much. "Honestly? I'm cheap, young, healthy, up for an adventure and I don't like lying. I'm pretty sure I wasn't Whetu's first choice," her offer had seemed very well worded, almost rehearsed, like she'd said it multiple times before, "And she said she was looking for someone with 'my temperament'" he added little air quotes with his free hand, "Which i think is basically code for someone who wouldn't try to cheat her." Deciding to turn the tables a little, he gestured to Kain, "And what about you? What makes you qualified?"

Xavier wasn't sure if too much land was bad for his soul, the sea was what took him away from his family in the first place, but he had to admit it did call to him. He wouldn't be on this adventure if he wasn't fond if the ocean and what it entailed, even storms fascinated him and kept him on his toes. Plus, just as many awful things had happened to him on land, the thought if some made him happy to be far away at sea. He nodded in agreement at her next comment, like Whetu the war disgusted him and he felt some parties were certainly more guilty than others. He wouldn't dare talk down on such an overly proud city while at it's port, but he clenched his fist slightly, the rage there. "Agreed. I'll be happy when it's far behind us." That was the truth. Xavier wasn't certain quite why he hated this place and country. He of course had been young and only got the repercussions from the war like the occupation of his home. But could he still call it his home? He loved his family and thought of them often, but it had been so many years and he was such a different person, why did he still feel the need to defend where he came from when he couldn't bear to return to it. His attention was pulled back at the mention of the crew. "Ah?" He was interested now, a variety of unique people would make this trip exciting and he wasn't sure what skills would be necessary. "Interesting, and they can all keep up?" He questioned. The life of a pirate was intense and Xavier hated having anyone drag them down. He had seen people beg to be sent home with only a week of time, others grew ill quickly. Those who could keep up, but were not loyal were also ones to look out for. The sea was deadly, but the people they encountered along the way were much worse and Xavier hoped their crew would be able to handle those people.
Kain watched Coran's body shift as he suppressed his surprise after the dog under the table likes him. He held back an eye roll, this kid's dog, who's presence he was well aware of, could catch him off guard, then how was he to react to someone putting a gun to his head. Kain assumed it would be a pitiful site and for his sake he hoped he wouldn't have to see that. He watched closely as Coran thought about his question for a moment, clearly he hadn't anticipated it. When his answer came, Kain found it slightly refreshing. He was willing to be honest, no qualifications other than intelligence and able body, which for a pirate that was all that was truly necessary. It was a reasonable reply, especially because Kain would have seen right through a lie. When Coran shot back with a question about Kain's own qualifications his lips twitched slightly, the corner close to a possible smile, but it was more of an amused smirk. He liked that this kid had just served his arrogance back to him without blinking, it was amusing since he wouldn't expect it from someone like the scrawny boy he saw before him. "My qualifications." He stated and finished the bite of grapefruit he had been chewing on. "I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, I've sailed plenty, and I don't mind having to kill people." He shrugged. It was the truth, but he had plenty of hidden talents, he was a gifted strategist and thief. "Why are you here? You want the adventure, or is it the prize at the end?" He asked, genuinely somewhat curious since he didn't think Coran would be in need of the wealth they would acquire, he didn't look like someone motivated by greed.

I'm sorry I wasn't on at all yesterday! My computer really isn't doing too great :u Man, Six of Crows is great! I love Nina and Inej so much, but honestly I love all of em. Yes I noticed those pearl handled revolvers ;D)
"It'll be sink or swim." She gave a shrug that suggested anyone who couldn't keep up would quickly become anyone who was left behind, "I can't say I went through the most honourable sources and found the most reliable members, but everyone on board wants this." Motivation, Whetu had often found, was the best indication of how things were to turn out. She'd picked hungry, eager sailors who wanted this bad. This had it's drawbacks, sure, like when they found the Hoop, who would stick around and who would turn traitor? But she had her own methods for dealing with it, ie, she was very very quick on the draw. She had no intention of hogging the prize, if everyone worked for it then everyone deserved it, but if anyone thought she was just going to sit back and let someone steal it, then a lump of lead in their skull would soon set the record straight. "Why? Having doubts?" She teased playfully, quirking one eyebrow, "It's not too late Xavier, my man. Back out now and no one will hold it against you. Except I'll forever remember you as a massive chicken. I might even write a book."
"Oh, charming." He snorted lightly as Kain offhandedly mentioned he had no qualms with killing. Coran had gotten more accustomed with the violence that sea-life brought. There'd been next to no trouble in Egring, so it'd been a shock for the boy when he first set sail, but that was at least a year ago. He was no fighter, and still not overly comfortable with blood (or pain really. But who was? It was pain.) but he managed to restrain from screaming these days when someone got blown to pieces in front of him. At that question his face shifted into a pout, and he launched into an animated story, "OK so, Whetu didn't tell me we'd be going after the Hoop until like, two months after I'd agreed. She'd just said 'treasure'. And she tried to justify it by saying she didn't think I'd want in if I'd known! Well, I certainly didn't want in after I found out she'd tricked me like that." His nasal voice raised to a high pitch as he recounted the tale. All he'd wanted was a pocket full of gold and an adventure out of this, he didn't want to be sailing around the world for something they might never find. But his mouth melted from the pout into an easy smile, "Then I thought about it, and I think people sometimes forget that the Hoop does more then make gold. I want it for the languages." He admitted, bright eyes shining, a scholar even now, "I mean, unlimited language abilities. Think of what that entails! The world will be an oyster, there's so much knowledge that's lost in translation, and it can be found again!"

(Oh no that's not good, can you get a new one? I know Nina is a Queen and Inej is perfect ugh I also love Jesper and Wylan and my poor bby Kaz I need to see more of Matthias but I like him too, I'm so scared for the next book though ugh It's so hard to find a time when we are both on lol)
Xavier didn't doubt the crew was all deeply motivated, whatever their reasons may be. He didn't think people went on a quest like this unless they wanted something out of it in the end. Even he, a major thrill seeker who would do just about anything on a dare wouldn't have gone on the trip without the promise of unlimited gold, after all the Hoop caused the war. Plus, Whetu had just confirmed there were certainly people to keep an eye on, who weren't to be trusted. He was sure though that in the case of betrayal Whetu would have it handled quickly, and if not Xavier Wwas very fast, he doubted they would even get a shot off. "Me? Having doubts?" He asked, and pointed his finger at his chest dramatically, as if just to make certain she was truly talking to him. "Surely you must he joking Whetu. Have you met me? I'll do just about anything on a dare alone." He reminded her with a playful wink.
Kain rolled his eyes at Coran's disgust in his reply. This kid was no pirate and he doubted the guy had ever spent one night on the streets, he had no idea what it was like. Kill or be killed, and Kain wasn't one to let anyone get the drop on him. It wasn't that he particularly liked bloodshed, the first time he was forced to kill someone he had gotten sick on himself after and cried himself to sleep. Now he didn't blink an eye. He watched Coran come to life as he answered the next question, his frustration with the situation was clear not only by his words, but with the rise of the pitch in his nasally voice. Kain honestly wasn't too surprised that the Hoop became more fascinating for Coran as a language translator. As someone who had no use for translating languages, Kain really didn't care, he just wanted the unlimited gold, he had been fascinated with the hoop since hearing the legend as a poor and lonely child. It was almost amazing how different Coran was from Kain, or anyone he was used to dealing with and he briefly wondered if he ever would have turned out like that, with knowledge as a better motivator than gold. "Poor you. Duped by a pirate, you must have been shocked." He replied, sarcasm evident. He could have made fun of his excitement for the Hoops knowledge, but instead decided against it for whatever reason. He decidedly wasn't in the mood to crush his spirits with cruel comments.

I don't think so :// I've fixed it in the past tho I'll just see what I can do again I didn't think I'd like Matthias but I do, the same with Kaz. I'm so worried???? The author has been teasing saying one of them will die???? I can't live with that agreed c:''' )
"Just checking," She said with a sly smile curling up the ends of her lips, "Just checking. Some times the sea does funny things to people. Makes them lose their heads. Screws with their emotions. I'm just getting proper consent from you now, so when we set sail, you don't die blaming me." She ended on a wide toothy grin, the charm in her voice coming as naturally to her as blinking. Struck by a sudden brilliant idea, she found a way to step out of the blinding sunlight and angled herself into Xavier's shadow. She knew there was a reason she liked this boy. Why, she'd even forgive him for being taller then her. A pretty woman passed by and Whetu spared a few moment to smile at her and snaffle an orange from her basket. Making quick work of the peel and offering half to the taller boy, she justified this theft from a likely poor person struggling by reminding herself of the dangers of scurvy. "We'll be sailing to Kydos first. Apparently they've got mermaids in their waters." No one should ever look so excited by such a thing, "And boy, they really mess with your head."
Realising the irony, Coran looked shocked for a moment, eyebrows up and blinking eyes, and then his face settled into a petulant frown, "Ha, ha, ha. Very funny." He finished off his tea, wiping the inside of his cup with the cuff off his ancient, knobbly jacket and dropping it into his bag. There was a slight tinkle as it clinked against the various forks and spoons he had also purloined for the greater good of the journey. "I don't know, she just had this easy way of talking, I didn't think she was lying about anything. And I suppose she wasn't." The young boy didn't like to think negatively of anyone, and had a soft spot for eloquent speakers, so he had already forgiven his captain and if she were to lie to him again, he would probably he duped twice. "She didn't see the big deal of it at all, just sent me out to buy this," he pulled a rolled up map out of his bag, "Took me weeks to track it down, we're lucky I found it this morning." Why an ordinary map wouldn't have done, he didn't know. No, it had to be this specific map. "I haven't even had a proper chance to look over it, so I hope you like unplanned routes because that's what we'll be taking."

(Dang good luck with fixing it that's a real pain I was pretty sure I would end up liking Kaz because I'm trash and I just adore Inej and Nina so much like they're perfect I was so scared for Nina at the end and I'm scared for Inej ugh I kinda feel like if someone dies it would be Kaz) I'm on West Coast USA time so it's like 9am here lol but I stay up late)
Xavier snorted at her teasing "Luckily for you captain I won't be dying. Besides, you'll need me or you'll be bored to death." He grinned widely and watched her step into the slice of shade provided by his shadow. He knew he wouldn't be losing his mind on the ship, but he would certainly get antsy, sitting still did that to him quickly. He easily took the other half of the orange and nodded to her in thanks as he took a bite, he loved fruit and oranges happened to be one of his favorites. "Ever the flirt." He commented from her smiling at the girl then ached a brow with interest. "Mermaids? Sounds interesting to me. Now tell me Captain, do they only mess with poor blokes like me, or are you just as much in deep waters, so to speak?" He asked her curiously. Of course Xavier was inclined to ask. He found girls attractive and had dated his fair share, but he usually leaned more towards men. He was also well aware of Whetu's choice in lovers and wanted to know whether or not that effected her since mermaids classically only lured men to their doom.
"Ah, so you are a thief?" Kain commented as the quirky boy slipped the tea cup into his bag. "You continue to surprise me Coran." He said, but whether or not he was mocking him or being genuine was unclear, as it often was with Kain. He was sure this boy was a fool despite his scholarly achievements if an easy tone was enough to win him over and settle his nerves. The map caught his interest quickly. "You mean you, our navigator, has not studied the map?" He asked in surprise. How stupid, they were supposed to spend weeks planning voyages, not go out and by the map the morning of departure. "Why that one then." He asked

I'm scared for Nina!!! I don't want her to become addicted to those flowers!!! My girl!!)
"Just trying to make society a better place." She quipped back at the flirting remark, "A little smile goes a long way in such a horrid country." But not quite as far as that orange would've gone, surely. She wiped orange juice from her mouth and answered, "We're all just meatbags to Mermaids - I don't think they can tell us apart at all. Besides, they come in a whole variety of genders." She remembered sailing on a course to an outer island along Scaii Shen once, only to watch the captain get pulled overboard and devoured by a strapping young man with teeth as long as his fingers. Not pretty, but she got his sword and his wristwatch when the crew divvied things up, so, it wasn't all that bad a day. "Everyone's in deep waters when a mermaid is around." Well, not everyone. There were those invaluable sailors who didn't swing at all, and seemed blissfully ignorant, if not a little irked, by the presence of mermaids Always handy to have. "And as much as I love a pretty face, I'd really rather have that pretty Hoop."
"Only in passing." He replied in a sing-song fashion, "And you'll be glad of it when Captain makes you drink week old tea from a filthy mason jar." He cleared the other little things off the table, setting the tiny vase on the ground and pocketing the rest of the napkins, so there was room to open the map, "I would've liked to have studied it earlier, but it was harder to find then the actual Hoop itself." He rolled it out, one hand at each end to stop it from curling, "Though I can see why she wanted it so bad." He admitted, letting out a low blow of admiration (though it became a whistle when it passed through the gap in his front teeth). The map was heavily notated, every spare inch of it had written notes and little tips. It was all done in the same handwriting, but various different inks. Some of the writing was near impossible to read, whilst others where very clear ("DANGER", "DRAGONS", "BOUNTY HUNTERS") It was hard to see where the land stopped and the ocean started on this, but there were very clear black Xs dotted around, about five in total. At first Coran had assumed they were the capital cities, but they didn't align with proper geography, "Those marks are, apparently, sighting of the Hoop in recent years." He explained, the closest one being in Kydos.

I know ugh I'm totally worried about that too but at the end of it she seemed somewhat better I just worry about her and Inej is kidnapped ugh she's too pure)
Xavier snorted when Whetu feigned innocence for her flirting, it was laughable to hear any pirate say they were trying to make society a better place. Or to think they could achieve that by smiles. Luckily Xavier was aware that his captain was not that painfully naive. He was slightly concerned by the aspect of mermaids, he had heard horrible stories and he wanted to avoid being eaten, especially before the real adventure began. "How do you plan to deal with the creatures?" He asked her curiously, since he figured if she was aware they were going into a mermaid populated area then she would be prepared to lose as few of the crew members as she possibly could. Xavier knew mermaids would only be the start of this voyage, if they hopes to obtain the Hoop they would have to go through just about everything.
Kain's blue eyes hungrily began to devour each comment and park on the map, he was actually quite impressed with Coran's find considering nothing was more useful than a map that came with advice and warnings. He pointed at the closest Hoop mark and raised an eyebrow. "Mermaids. Wonderful." He grunted. He had wondered how the captain hoped to find the Hoop without searching just about everywhere, but this map changed everything, it was invaluable and have them some guide of how to go about finding this treasure. He frowned suddenly and took a glance around. It was never smart to display plans in public, especially with a prize as big as this one. He took one last scan of the map, soaking in what he could, before he nudged Coran. "Close it up. We don't need anyone spying."

I love Inej! There's nothing I want more for her than to become that pirate and start hunting slave ships, that's so badass.)
"Well, we can't shoot all of them." Probably. There were, most likely, many mermaids out there, more then she had bullets. "And they don't really have borders in their territories, so just avoiding them is out of the question. If they see a ship, they follow it. We'll use a buddy system, no one is alone for one second while we sail through their waters. Mermaids can't hypnotise you, only... flatter your senses. They target the lonely, the stragglers. We stay in groups." She said after a moment's pause. It didn't work like it did in stories, where they sang and you were gone. At some point, the person beginning lured made a decision to listen to a mermaid, and that's what they got you. With multiple people around, it was tougher, because all it took was a good slap and a sharp word to snap someone out of the trance. "For the really desperate, I did buy a sizeable amount of ear-plugs. Then we'll really be able to tell who's, um, eager to meet them." She couldn't keep the humour out of her voice, nothing was more amusing then seeing hard, weather beaten sailors admit they needed physical restraining from a nice voice.
Coran was scared of a lot of monsters, as most people should be, he felt, and mermaids were no exception. "Why's it always gotta be monster infested?" He huffed, resting his cheek on one hand, "Why can't treasure be hidden somewhere pleasant?" Unpleasant places were a well versed topic back home in Egring, as there was little else to talk about, and they brought up embarrassing memories for Coran. Not because of what happened to him, but rather because of what didn't happen to him ie he wasn't invited by the other children his age to explore caves and rocky crevices. How ironic now that the child who knew how to read in two languages but froze when asked to speak to more then two people was the pirate, out of all the troublemakers he'd known, out of all of Pluid Bria. (Well, not that there was a lot of Pluid Bria, he supposed) At Kain's word, he rolled up the map and carefully put it back in his back. It was old enough, and he knew it didn't take much to rip or tear these things. He'd prime it when they were sailing, a couple of protective layers to keep it really safe. "Do you think there are any?" He asked in a bit of a whisper shout, "Um, spies, I mean. You like, competitors."

Ikr so great I love her tons I really want her with Kaz or Nina or happiness but I Lowkey feel like she loves Kaz and he might die which would not be cool I just want them all happy ugh. Wylan is adorable but I'm so proud of him and I need them to forgive Jesper :c )
Xavier wondered if she was under exaggerating. Flatter the senses sounded easy enough to avoid, but he knew it would be a struggle even if he knew they were just trying to eat everyone, stronger men and women had fallen as their victims. He figured though if they didn't hypnotize him and he had no wish to embrace death then he had little to be concerned about. At least that was what he decided to convince himself. "Ah. Good thinking. Rope as well I'd assume? That's why you're the captain." He winked teasingly. There were many reasons why Whetu was an excellent captain, buying earplugs to keep the mermaids out likely ranked low on the list.
Kain narrowed his eyes slightly as Coran began to pout and complain. Was he serious? Did he not realize the world was full of monsters and many of them walked around in sheep skin to fool the only decent people into thinking they belonged as one of them. "The world is full of monsters Coran. I prefer the sea demons than those on land." He stated to remind him that there were much worse people to encounter and Kain had seen plenty of those people in his life, hell, he was one and he knew it. "The treasure will be well worth it. Just think of all those languages." He reminded him. He didn't need their navigators thoughts on fear, he needed his eyes on the prize and focused. Kain watched him carefully roll the map and place it in his bag. Kain would watch that bag closely for pick pockets until they were safely on the ship. "Yes, where there is treasure there is bound to be more than one group looking. Plus, I'd assume word on the street gets around, we're on the move and it's not likely that will go unnoticed so stay sharp." He warned his own posture relaxed, but Kain was always ready for an attack.

(I finished Camilla I just have to do her history!)
Camilla sat on the steps leading up to the wheel of the ship, her elbows on her knees and her head in her hands, expression bored and unamused. She had been happy to go into the city just to try the delicious street food or maybe even buy some new jewelry, but Xavier had laughed and told her to get her medical supplies and meet them back at the ship. So she had gone ashore, passed the vendors and the performers and all the excitement only to go to the most boring store and pick up extra supplies. Of course she was some much sooner than the rest of them, even though she had to get a few rare herbs and medicines under the counter and now she was missing all the fun. Xavier had been right when he said she would get entirely too distracted, he barely knew her and he had pegged that part of her personality quickly. Camilla was excited to start their journey and wished the other would hurry back sooner. She sighed heavily and blew a piece of hair from her face in the process.

I was SO MAD AT WYLAN'S DAD WHAT IS HIS PROBLEM)
"Yes. That is why I'm the Captain." She smirked a little, saying that never got old, "Come on, let's head down to the ship. We'll be off soon, and it would be awkward if we missed our own boat." She added, not sure if even her silvertongue could twist that one into something in her favour in a crowded bar. She set off down the slope of the hill, The cobblestones growing wider and longer as they got closer to the ocean. As much as she found this city distasteful, she admired their roadbuilding industry, back in Manpere they mostly had gravel and planks, which had their own strengths, but far more weakness in the long run when it came to quick get-aways. The mast of the Blackguard grew closer and closer and Whetu couldn't help but rub her hands together in a small excited flurry, "Isn't she beautiful? I've sailed in some wrecks, and I mean wrecks, I would've killed a man for a ship like this ten years ago. Well, I did."
He just nodded with his eyes blinking behind his glasses, reaching up the push them back up his nose every now and again. They'd been broken one-too-many times and no longer fit like the used to. The first thing Coran was going to do when they got the hoop was invest in a new pair, these glasses must be about five years old. "Do you have any in particular you want to get?" He asked curiously, hi train of though turning to the man across from him, "You seem pretty set on getting your own portion of the gold." He smiled a little, not wanting to seem rude or probing. That old, icy anxiety was settling back in, had he said the wrong thing here? He doubted Kain was much of a gossiper, in fact he was amazed the man had spoken so much to him at all, but all the same, appearances could be deceptive. To seem less assertive then the small amount he'd already offered, and maybe dull down any over eagerness (something that got anyone ostracised back on that awful island), he added hastily, "I just want a new pair of glasses! Oh, and to get Conall's hair cut. It's disgusting." Nailed it.
Hearing the sigh from behind her, Sonal turned her head over her shoulder, but didn't dare to move from where she was leaning over the edge of the ship. The weather here was far too sweet for her stomach to handle much movement, "Bored already?" She asked, only because she herself needed something to think about. Maybe talking would help the nausea. Though since coming under the command of Captain Cynwrig she had begun to associate talking with nausea rather then as a cure. "There's plenty of jars of pickled gherkins that need unpacking if you want something to do." She warned, as this massive woman did not know how to tease. She didn't know what she thought of this doctor, having only bet her briefly before. The only ship doctors she'd ever dealt with were withered and old, as salty as the ocean they called home. Camilla looked sweet and young, a bright new thing. Honestly though she may have been exactly what Sonal was expecting. She had no reason to know of the girl's talent or intelligence, and assumed her captain had picked the first pretty face she'd seen with a medical degree. Maybe assuming she had a degree was a little rich coming from the woman who couldn't read, however.

He is the worst omg I hate him a ton poor Wylan :c also I want wylan's face to go back to normal ugh)
Xavier rolled his eyes playfully at her playful agreement to his statement then snorted. "Yes, that would be quite embarrassing I don't think we'd ever live that one down." He said, but also was fairly certain nobody would dare get Whetu's beloved ship moving from port without her on it unless they wanted to face her wrath, which Xavier couldn't imagine why anyone would want that. He walked after her, his stride long and eager, he was ready to leave this city, he hated it more than he cared to let on, but he knew she had no fondness for the city and what this country stood for. He glanced up at the Blackguard, it really was a magnificent vessel and she had every right to be proud of it, but the more compliment he allowed her the louder she would boast. "Of course you did." He laughed a little as he followed her to the ship.
Kain really couldn't imagine Coran in a fight, he was pretty sure the guy would be knocked down in the first minute, maybe even less. He watched him carefully as he began to question what Kain would use his gold on, even going so far as to comment on his desire for his own portion. "I'm here because the Hoop can offer endless gold which is something no other treasure can compare to." He replied flatly and gave no elaboration on what he would use his newly acquired money for since if was none of Coran's business. He rolled his eyes at Coran's uses for the money. He could do what he wanted with his share but that didn't mean his excitement for a new pair of glasses and haircut for his dog was anything imaginative. "You do realize you could give your dog a haircut whenever you like. A bath as well." He said and glanced down at the filthy dog. "We should be going, wouldn't want to miss our boat." He said and stood, then began to walk towards the docks without a glance over his shoulder to see if Coran was following,
Truthfully Camilla has not noticed Sonal leaning against the rail of the ship a little ways away, she looked slightly green and Camilla assumed that was sea sickness setting in. She hopped up from her place on the stairs and made a bit of a face at the thought of unpacking the pickled gherkins. That would certainly not cure her boredom. "As fun as that sounds I'll pass." She said, unsure if it has been a real suggestion or a playful comment since Sonal didn't seem to really joke. "But I could get you some mint leaves to chew for nausea. It settles the stomach." She suggested. It wasn't as strong as a medicine would be, but those were limited and she figured she would save them for large storms where Sonal wouldn't be above deck to empty her stomach. "Do you think they'll back back soon?" She added curiously, she was growing frustrated with waiting.

same!! I think it will pretty earlier on in the next book, because it'd be kinda awkward if they're all out breaking the law and they have this Child with them)
She ran her hands lightly along the wood as they boarded, sighing dramatically, recalling the fight, "He put up a valiant effort." She pressed one hand to her forehead, forlorn for the last soul, "He really did. But valour has never done much against bullets." Whetu gave a what-can-you-do shrug, hands in the air, as if she was annoyed it was raining, or that the bakery had no pastries left. As they climbed up she caught a glimpse of the name of the ship painted along the side: that part was her own add-on. She'd been conjuring up ship names since she was a child, and this was the one she had decided on. It was catchy, had a good ring to it. "We're baa-aaack!" She called in a sing-song voice, "Don't worry, we're not dead. Not yet, anyway."
"Well, yes, I could wash him." Coran admitted, grabbing his bag and hurrying after Kain. Conall got up lazily behind them and plodded after, now that he was standing it was obvious how large he really was, his head coming up close to Coran's chest. The navigator strapped his bag on, walking quickly with that funny gait of his, "But he never sits still for me! I swear, the dog hates me. When I ask him to get up, he never moves, but when I need him to sit still, he's full of life!" He sighed exasperatedly, throwing his hands in the air. Conall gave a solemn 'boof' the kind big dogs do when they want to bark but aren't 100% committed. The dog was faster then the boy, and it took Coran a few moments to catch up with either Kain or Conall, but when he did, his seeming ire at his pet had evaporated, and he rested his hand on the dog's hand, ruffling his ears gently. The ship grew closer and he couldn't keep the sudden bounce out of his step, "I always forget how big ships are until I'm up close. I've been sailing for a while now, but it always takes me by surprise."
The offer of mint was tempting, but Sonal preferred to stick out her pain rather then admit there was any, "I'm fine." She said stiffly, clearly not fine but in no way about to admit these tiny waves were making her feel worse and worse. Turning around the lean with her back against the side, she crossed her arms under her chest, "And they better be. If not, we're sailing without them." She muttered closing her eyes and tilting her head back. This was a pretty empty threat, but that's what Sonal did when she was annoyed or ill: made empty threats. If she was in a particularly bad mood, those threats got pretty creative too. She'd run into Whetu a few times before joining their crew (that woman was stubborn, she didn't stop pestering until Sonal had agreed to join) and she had a feeling that she was probably already on her way back. She'd seemed very excited about this. Hearing voices and people walking up onto the deck, her eyes flicked open, "Speak of the Devil and he shall appear." She commented lowly

I hope so and I hope they don't rescue Inej too late I'm worried about her))
Xavier followed behind Whetu as she dramatically announced their arrival, he gave a little wave to Sonal and Camilla who appeared to be the only ones aboard the ship, meaning that Coran and Kain were still out and would hopefully be back at the ship quickly unless they wanted to be left at the port. He walked lazily to sit on a barrel and glanced out over the water, he was eager to move out and start the adventure. He noticed Sonal's expression, which wasn't much different then her usual stony face besides the slightly paler hue to her skin, likely from sea sickness. He thought about making a teasing comment, but frankly he didn't want to poke the bear so to speak so he kept his mouth shut.
Kain continued to walk and offered no sign that he was listening to Coran rant about the disobedience of his rather enormous dog and that he couldn't figure out how to give the beast a proper bath, which Kain would offer no advice or help with. He had never owned a dog and didn't care to, he looked out for himself only and he had no exceptions to that rule. A pet would drag him down. He half rolled his eyes once Coran hustled to catch up with him as the reached the dock, several large vessels bobbed lazily in the water, their wood creaking as workers moves crates about for trade. He wasn't sure if Whetu's boat was registered, but if not she had likely bribed a worker. "That's nice." He replied sarcastically as Coran went on about the ships and how enormous they really were. He wasn't sure what made the boy decide what thoughts fo let slip through his lips since they always seemed to be pointless and strange. He headed up the ramp to board the ship, everyone seemed to already be there and he gave a slight nod in greeting, mostly for the captains benefit.
"Okayyy whatever you say." Camilla shrugged slightly, she wasn't going to fight her on it, especially since Sonal seemed to be so stubborn. "Well, you know where to find me if it gets worse!" She winked cheerfully then turned her attention to Whetu and Xavier as they boarded. "Oh thank the Gods I was starting to think you'd never come back I've been so bored." She complained, but was generally excited to see them. "Please tell me you brought sweets?" She asked hopefully since the journey was long and she would need to have a stash somewhere to keep her happy. She gave a slight wave to Coran in greeting since he seemed nice enough, it could have been aimed towards Kain too, but he sort of freaked her out so in her mind it was just for the boy and his dog who she immediately knelt down to greet with scratches behind his ears.

so worried about her. She's ma gurl ma no. 1 I'm just going to roll all these replies into one here)
"You're sweet enough as it is." Whetu offered with a flashy smile, as substitute for the lack of actual sweets. It would've been a good idea to get some however, it really would break up the monotonous porridge and pickled goods, eh, she'd get some in the next port. Sonal pushed off the side, "You took your time," She said pointedly at both of them, "I thought we'd be sailing by noon." Sonal liked things, pun not intended, in ship-shape order. If they were to leave by noon, they should've left by noon. Clearly the captain didn't agree with this, as she waved it off with a dismissive hand. Coran waved back to the doctor, she seem friendly, and she was very pretty, two stellar qualities in Coran's book. Plus, she liked dogs! People who didn't like dogs had small, waxy hearts. Conall leaned into the scratches, snuffling at her sleeve, big tail thumping and thumping. Doing a head count, Whetu saw everyone was here, though she almost missed Kain. That guy was invisible when he wanted to be, very handy. "Any last minute regrets? Worries? Confessions?"

"Well." Camilla replied with a slight blush on her already rosy cheeks as she twirled a piece of hair around her finger. "You're not wrong captain." She said playfully and continued to scratch the dogs ears who she decidedly was already fond of. Xavier shrugged at Sonal's grumpy attitude and flashed her a grin "Sorry, we're all here now though." He shrugged, not phased by their apparent tardiness. Xavier looked around, this really was a very strange group. A doctor who looked far from qualified, a scrawny kid with a dog that was practically bigger than him. A shady guy standing in the corner that made him cold even with the sun on his skin, Sonal's non-nonsense expression and large frame, and then there was their fearless leader, bright and ready to go. This would be very interesting. Kain remained silently in the corner, his arms crossed and icy eyes glanced at the people around him, sizing them up somewhat suspiciously. Camilla couldn't help but be excited with what may lay ahead, each person interested her and she was excited to get out on the sea. She was pretty sure her last minute regret would be no chocolate on board, but she decided not to comment and instead patted the dogs head one more time and straightened up, ready to go.

w hetu why r u counting them, the crew is l ikke 6 people and a dog)
"Alright then, we're off!" She said, the excitement in her coming up at last, eyes wide and bright. Sonal muttered something dark and malicious, but cast off the ropes all the same. The anchor was raised and Coran took his place behind the wheel. In the past, the ships he'd been on usually had navigators and separate people to steer, but Whetu seemed adamant that only one would be needed for the first leg of the journey. Map rolled out on the table beside him, the speckled boy set a course for Kydos, pulling out of the harbour and going slightly north. The docks and the city were getting smaller and smaller, noises fading and people vanishing. The captain pointed to Xaiver, "You, lanky man, unfurl the sails, there's a stronger win out at sea then on land." Thank the gods it was a nice day! She'd have to leave an offering for Una at the next port. Spying Kain in the corner, she realised they hadn't spoken yet and that simply wouldn't do, not for her at least, "Come with me," She waved him over, "I need someone to help me check the weapons with."

Haha she's so extra I love it )
Xavier eyes Coran suspiciously. "This kid can steer a ship?" He asked Whetu in passing, one eyebrow raised in disbelief as he began to untie the sails and pull them so they could be caught properly in the wind. "He looks about 13, are you sure he's not just going to crash us into some rocks?" He questioned, he personally would feel more comfortable with Whetu behind the wheel, but their crew was small and she surely must have felt she was needed elsewhere. Kain had been watching and at Whetu's request he pushed himself from where he was leaning and followed the captain silently. Check the weapons was something he was good at, he knew how to use just about anything. He subtly eyed each member as he passed by, sizing them up and trying to get an assessment on each of their strengths and weaknesses.
