When Henry looked up to see that Alaric was perched in a tree above them, hissing at them to be quiet, Henry suddenly understood the situation. He ducked down, listening to the voices. The teen couldn't work out what was being said but the tone of the voices certainly did sound...maybe frustrated? Angry?
He glanced back up at the tree where he now knew Alaric was perching.
"Is it not just some of the others?" Henry pointed out in a voice just loud enough for Alaric to hopefully hear. It would make more sense that it would be some of the others. Plus, Henry just kind of wanted to be able to relax for a moment. For once, Hal wanted the most logical answer to be the real one.

Okay, so Henry could just not catch a break apparently. Or rather, none of this group could catch a break. How complicated was it for them to walk into the jungle, look for some supplies, walk back to the beach? Because apparently even that was more than they could handle.
“So what’s your plan? There’s only so long you can hide up there,” the young male responded
Right now he was listening to hear whether the voices were coming closer. He couldn’t really tell at this point but something told him they might be.

Once they had reached the rest of the crew, Kali had disappeared from the group and was setting herself up farther from the others. She was making herself some shelter for the night, not wanting to take any of the supplies for the rest of the crew, by gathering sticks and branches to make herself a lean-to up against a nearby rock. She was farther away from the water because she didn't know how the tide worked on the island and didn't want to wake up like a drowned rat if the tide rose during the night. She wasn't paying any attention to anything anyone else was doing as she started to insulate it with dead leaves from the jungle floor.

(Ahh that sucks. )
Santiago nodded carefully when she said that her healers would help him when he arrived, distrust flickering through his features for a millisecond, before he turned his attention towards Fletcher. He let out a low, awkward chuckle at the comment as he stared at the dark haired man for a few more moments. “That... maybe be my fault. Partially.” He admitted, fidgeting for a millisecond, before resting once more with a heavy sigh. A small smile did touch his lips, however, at the comment of his finding a fresh water source and he nodded his confirmation. “Yes. Although Kali was the one who actually heard it first.” He explained as he finally closed his eyes, resting his hands on his lap, ignoring the pain as he brushed against the open wound.

“Or that,” Henry said as he looked at Zenobia “that was also a good plan.”
He allowed time for Alaric to get down from the tree and then they were off again.
“That’s only a temporary solution, though,” Henry said as they walked “were on an enclosed island, they’ll come back. Which means we have to all have to stay with the group from now on for safety.”
Safety in numbers, after all. And who knew who those pirates were? Anyone could now be involved in a search for Alaric. It wasn’t wise to go anywhere alone anymore. Especially not Alaric.

(Yesssss haha )
Santiago, on some level, was quite relieved at how well his lover had taken the news. He opened his eyes once more, smiling lazily at the commodore, the beginnings of a smirk touching his lips when he noticed the man not daring to lean any closer. He wasn’t sure what the cause of this was, although he assumed that it had something to do with them being in public, and his affections towards someone else was what got him in this mess to begin with. So he only slightly inclined his head towards Fletcher to indicate he’d caught the movement. “I suppose... I could put a good word in for you.” He said, mocking a grudging tone, because he was planning on pulling the mermaid aside later and clear it up.

XD Fletcher and Santi will never get another moment together)
"Maybe we could just hand him over to them," Zeno muttered in an annoyed tone as she walked past the rest of the men. The creature on her shoulder seemed to be taking her to quite well. Seeing as she hadn't killed it yet and kept it on her shoulder since it couldn't fly, the creature saw her as a friend. It turned and stuck its tongue out to the others and buried itself in her hair. Alaric let out a humorless laugh and scowled at her. "How are you still mad at me, Zeno? What did I do?" he snapped his voice rising. "Oh you know exactly what you did you-you-" The wraith snapped and turned to face him. Her face had twisted into a new sort of rage. "Actually I don't. Please enlighten me, love," Alaric challenged stepping up to tower over her. "If you two could stop arguing for literally, five minutes, we might be able to get back to camp and not die by the swords of our enemies," The sailor hissed having just enough of their arguing as Henry had. He pushed them forward to keep them moving.
Fletcher smiled. A small one, sure, but a good smile none the less. "It's not needed, Santi," he said lowering his voice. He looked into Santiago's eyes and just got lost in them for a moment. It was times like these where he missed his quarters that they would share. Missed having time alone with his pirate despite the constant reminder that they'd always get interrupted. But little moments like these always reminded him to enjoy those quiet moments they so rarely had. "But it is very much appreciated."

“Yeah, what he said,” Henry said, nodding towards the sailor “We have a problem when I’m the most mature person in a group, I would just like to point out. It’s not difficult to just walk back to the beach without arguing. Nobody cares what anybody did. All you have to do is not say anything to one another. It’s really easy, you literally don’t have to do anything.”
With that he walked with the group, trying to keep an eye on Alaric and Zenobia hoping that they wouldn’t argue anymore. He really hated it, to be honest, and it was really starting to get on his nerves to be honest. It wasn’t too bad at first but at this point he was really starting to become irritated. He only wanted a little bit of peace. And it seemed that the sailor who was with them agreed. At least he was taking control a little bit because he’d never done that before; he sailor had pretty much just been quiet for the whole trip. Maybe his reaction was enough to shock Alaric and Zenobia into silence. Unlikely, but still.

"No." Kali responded, not turning to look at Thessa, she had felt the mermaid watching her for a while but hadn't said anything. She wasn't hostile or mean like she had been. "I don't trust them and they don't trust or like me so why should I?" She sounded almost bitter, but she wasn't. It was her own doing after all. Not that she wanted to change it. The only thing she wanted to change was the past when she had gotten captured but that was, you know, impossible so she accepted it.

The pirates had silenced themselves and walked the rest of the way in silence. But they were merely simmering. Waiting until they couldn't take it anymore to explode on each other again. They made it pretty far from the area where they had last seen the group of angry pirates. They were silent for a long time before Zeno spoke up again. "You sold me out and left me to die," she muttered not looking at anyone. Just straight ahead. Her face calm for once. "Yes and?" Alaric challenged throwing his hands up into the air. He was exhausted with this constant back and forth with her. "You betray people all the time. Hell, I'm one of them," He hissed. "Can we please not-" The sailor started before being interrupted. "I was pregnant, Alaric," she answered quickly. That made the pirate stop in his tracks. He just looked shocked. No smile in sight as she explained why she was so angry. "You left me to die, which I would have had no problem with normally, but you almost took away my children. If you had just listened for one second you would have heard me tell you," she growled turning to look at him as he stood at the back of the group. "But you didn't. And all these years I thought you knew and didn't care. Doesn't matter anyway. I'll probably never see them again," she shrugged with a humorless laugh. Shoving her hands into her trouser pockets, Zeno looked at the other two. "No more arguing with him. You have my word," she nodded then turned and continued to walk through the jungle. (Sweet! Now he knows)
Thessa made a face as if she were thinking. While Kali had a point it seemed... lonely. She tilted her head and watch Kali for a little longer. "Well, I don't know much about human customs or rituals. But... I'd like to be your friend," she suggested with a bright smile. She was one of the nicer people of her kingdom. She always wanted to be close to everyone and make them happy. So no matter what, Thessa was determined to find something to make the pirate smile. or at least get to know her a little more.
"Influential?" Fletcher asked closing his eyes and letting Santiago rest his head on his shoulder. He smiled slightly as he let his head fall on top of his companions. Most of the crew had settled in for the night and was trying to get some sleep before any more chaos erupted. And at the rate they were going, there was bound to be something weird happening. "I've seen she can control the winds but is she really that powerful?" he mused.

Kali faltered at her words and finally looked at Thessa. "Why?" She was confused and wary. "I cut off your finger and starved you. Why would you want to be my..... friend?" The word almost didn't sound right coming from her mouth. She didn't have friends, she hadn't since her family was alive and she was living happily among them and the rest of her city. Even then she didn't have very many friends. She didn't know how to react, since becoming a pirate the closest she's had to a friend was her first mate and that was purely a professional relationship. She definitely wasn't expecting a mermaid that she had tortured to want anything to do with her, much less be her friend. It was almost suspicious.

"Well to be fair you didn't really starve me," she started to explain stepping closer to Kali. "My people are also bottomfeeders. We make sure the ocean stays clean of both pollution and people," She said with a shrug. Stepping up to look at Kali's makeshift bed, Thessa grinned at her. "Besides, You're the only one I haven't seen smile. And I'd like to change that," she offered "Yes, you may have tortured me, but those for reason I think I understand?" she questioned and looked at Kali again. "I just want to make you happy."
"Perhaps you are," he murmured and smiled as he rested against Santiago. "She seems fond of you all so far, and she's helped us enough times to guarantee that she can at least be useful. She might be a mystery but she's a useful mystery," he purred moving his hand to touch Santi's with his fingertip. "I'll take comfort in knowing that you'll be back to your old self soon."

Even Henry stopped in shock when Zenobia said she’d been pregnant, and the young pirate looked between the two. This was some pretty heavy stuff. Why couldn’t it just have been something small? Of course the thing that Zeno had against Alaric had to be something so huge.
“Wow...” Hal muttered in shock.
But as Zenobia walked ahead, he sped up to catch up with her.
“Hey, we’ll get you back to your kids,” Hal said as they walked “It’ll all work out, I promise.”
Zenobia probably didn’t believe him, which was fine, and it probably wasn’t actually helpful at all. After all, Hal couldn’t guarantee anything. He was just a kid; there was no guarantee that he would make it. In fact if any of them didn’t it would probably be him. And so he couldn’t really make any promises to Zenobia that she would be returning to her children. But that was what Henry wanted for her and he’d do anything to make that happen. After all, he didn’t have anything to return for. He just had something to not leave for. But Zenobia has her children, and Henry would be damned if he got in the way of that.

Kali laughed. But it wasn't a real laugh. It was longer than it needed to be and not filled with humor and anything happy. It cut off abruptly as she turned away with a shake of her head. "The only way you could possibly make me happy is if you go and kill every last Englishman you can find." She snorted and crouched to finish putting leaves and moss down so she wouldn't sleep on the hardened sand. "But you are too peaceful and naive for that. No. Happiness is out of the question." The slightest of tremors could be barely seen in her hands as she worked. She was shoving an emotion or memory down as far as it could go but it was resisting.

Zenobia didn't look at the boy as she placed a hand on his shoulder. It was comforting and not threatening at all. She loved his optimism and appreciated the promise he made. But, she didn't feel as if it would happen. She would never see her kids again and that was just a fact she'd have to live with until she died. The rest of the walk back to camp was uneventful and quiet. There was no more arguing. No more creatures casting illusions and turning them the wrong way. It was a simple quiet night getting back. And they made it back successfully. Zenobia grabbed her coat and found a place to rest for the night, Alaric went and found a place on the opposite side of Zeno, and the sailor joined his friends and kissed the sand, happy to be back with sane people.
Fletcher frowned and squeezed the pirates hand. "You are never the bane of my existence. No, you make me feel whole again," he admitted not understanding the joke. He felt better with Santi around. felt like he could do anything. Felt comfortable. But, then he'd be reminded that he was not supposed to be with him. Not supposed to care whether he lived or died outside of the mission. But, he did. And he loved it. "I'd rather stop worrying about you every second," he admitted and opened his eyes when he saw the three pirates with the sailor return. He'd interrogate them later. For now, it was time to sleep.
Thessa was going to apologize that she couldn't help. Apologize that she couldn't do what Kali wanted in order for her to be truly happy. She was going to. And then she had called her naive. She bristled at the word. How dare she call her naive. As if she were some young child that needed to be scolded for trying something or not knowing better. "I am only naive because I don't know anything about your people. But, I am trying to learn," she snapped. Her diamond colored eyes glittered with rage as she stepped closer to Kali, her anger overpowering her fear. "Am I to assume you know everything about me then? From the questions you ask and the names you call me I would assume not. So I teach you. You learn. That's a word you have in your vocabulary, isn't it? Learning?" she hissed as the wind picked up around her. It picked up the sand and twirled it around her bare feet. "You may think you know everything, but you don't. You'd do well to remember that," she finished before turning and stepping into the water. She stopped to look behind her and glare at Kali. "When you want to talk, you let me know," And with that, she disappeared into the ocean.

Kali didn't even seem to react when Thessa responded angrily, she had a genuine smile on her lips actually. But of course her back was to the mermaid so she couldn't see it as she left. "Whatever you say." Kali shrugged off her jacket and settled down onto her makeshift bed using her jacket as a blanket. She didn't fall asleep, mind remembering how Thessa reminded her of a friend she had growing up before the attack. After a few moments of indulging in the memories she shook her head, it wasn't useful to dream of days gone by like that when there was no chance of going back.

Henry was surprised by the gentle gesture from Zenobia, and he supposed she just really appreciated the comfort he had tried to offer, though she hadn’t necessarily believed him. Still, he’d tried to help, and that meant something.
He settled down in a space far enough from everyone around him that they could have their own individual space - God knew everyone needed it at this point - but close enough that he wasn’t exposed and he was there if anyone wanted to talk. For a while he just watched the waves, lost in thought. Not about anything in particular. Just about how crazy this whole trip had been so far. He couldn’t believe quite what the group had gone though.
Of course, he’d seen that Fletcher had noticed the four returning, which meant questions later. That was okay. He would be ready, and Alaric and Zenobia could handle themselves, without a doubt.
