ngl i was super scared when my friends brought out the ouija boards bc we're really not supposed to do that stuff. witchcraft n all that related stuff totally goes against my religion. it was one of those "back out and you're a p****" moments. and i didn't back out. i shouldn't have done it w them but they phrased it like a dare and they know i don't back out of dares

sorry for all the questions gojira but how do you usually communicate with deities/how do they contact you? i've always had trouble understanding some of the more religious aspects of practice haha ^^U nah don't worry about questions, i love answering 'em. it depends! One night while i was still figuring things out i basically put a thought out there that was "hey, Gods. ummm i know you're out there, but i'm not sure who's trying to contact me. send me a dream or something? pls make it obvious i'm so thick." and lo and behold, the dream i had that night was of me walking through this sort of white marble palace, with a river flowing through it. there were rows of thrones on the wall, and i heard something say "whoever you end up seeing is your god" (literally, that straight-forward. i guess the universe took me seriously when i said i was thick, lol) so i walked for a little bit, and decided i wanted to finally look and there was a man with a crocodile head holding this little black cat. the dream changed after that into something less meaningful, as my good spiritual dreams often do. the black cat ended up being Bast, who I haven't had contact with in forever but am eternally grateful to for getting me on the path i'm on- She's a wonderful lady, really. Sobek was kind of in the background for awhile after that, but came to me again during a meditation and that's when the relationship actually began. Tiamat i had a special connection with since i was 6 years old. there was this book about dragons i had growing up (still have it actually) and She always stuck out to me. Years later i felt that "pull" towards Her, and ended up doing a lot of divination and all that. She and Sobek are both very "hands off," but Her especially. Everyone else kind of varies. sometimes a name sticks out to me on a list, sometimes they just keep popping up EVERYWHERE. Thoth and Quetzalcoatl kept coming up on every tv show, every book, every article and it just really couldn't be ignored. Most of the time though? It's a gut feeling. a weird little nudge in your head that something's trying to communicate with you. as for talking to them, again it varies. Some prefer formal prayer, some are ok with you just getting into a meditative state and brain-vomiting in their direction. Some would rather you only contact them during rituals. it really varies :0

Well, this thread seems to have picked up speed. It's all pretty interesting, the melting pot made by cat books on a cat forum... I don't have much to offer to this thread, sadly. The only thing I believe in, if anything, is the almighty RNGesus This is all pretty interesting, though. Gojira, if you haven't already do you mind sharing how you became a... ah, a witch? .u.

Ah okay. How do I know when I have a connection with like a deity? I never felt close to God which was why I left Catholicism but when I think of nature spirits and nature gods, even if I don't have a name for them, I feel like that's what I should believe in. I also feel close to the moon so could a patron god of mine be someone like Artemis? sometimes, as i said in my above post, you've gotta ask them to basically start whacking you with a stick. i've never been gifted at picking up on subtleties when it comes to Gods, so getting into a meditative state and going "hey, universe, please send me very obvious signs" is the best way to go. Also, that could be! or you could just be close to the moon. this is where discernment comes in, figuring out what's just something close to you, what's a God, and what just really doesn't have the meaning you think it does. If nature gods are your thing, maybe look up some nature related deities! See if a name sticks out to you, then research them. Do their stories resonate with you? Do you just get that nagging feeling in your stomach like something has clicked into place? will their name just not stop coming up? did you read about, say, a god of... butterflies (not a great example but its what i could think of) and suddenly you're seeing them EVERYWHERE? all could be indicators that you've found someone to work with. don't worry too much about discerning patrons yet, not every God is a patron and it's a bit of a process to figure out who yours are.

I just remembered how similar Catholicism and witchcraft are to an extent and I know Catholic witches are a thing, but I'm just not sure if I should practice it or not. I'm certainly very interested in it for the most part, but I don't know...

Simply being and posting in this thread is so far in left field for me, and I know absolutely nothing about your side of the spectrum. The policy has always been to keep an open mind, though So, how does it all in general affect your life? Sorry, speaking in very broad terms here, and I don't mind if you don't want to disclose anything on that subject.

Going to head off soon I think.
Catholic witches are totally a thing! its up to you to practice or not, and depends on how you interpret the laws of your religion.
my religion impacts my life veeery positively. ive learned to be such a better, stronger, and more open person and am infinitely happier for it. and im still learning things every day!
sorry for messy reply, switched to mobile.

Thanks for the advice! I do wonder, though, how do you know which god or goddess of which pantheon is yours? What about element (water, fire, etc...)? Also, are familiars an actual thing is wicca/witchcraft?

What are spirit companions?
Since I haven't really talked about my religion, here I go. I'm not really active with my religion. I kind of view it as a private relationship between me and God. I mainly just pray, but that's good enough for me. Sometimes I worry I'm not good enough though, and that I will be punished. I'm saved and I strongly believe though, and in my religion that's all it takes to go to heaven but I still worry. I guess it's just my fear of not being good enough in general coming into my spiritual life. My religion gives me a lot of comfort. He's really the only one I have that I can tell absolutely anything to.

this is awesome! I personally do have a familiar, though not every witch or Wiccan does. My goddesses and God(patron goddess: Aphrodite; others: Hecate, Freyja, Ceridwen, Persephone; only god lol: Hades) contacted by feelings of intense spiritual connection and a feeling of oneness with them. Aphrodite and Persephone showed me that I was one of theirs when I got back into Wicca by having pomegranates appear FREAKING EVERYWHERE. EVERY. WHERE. it was insane. I'm also one for relationships and uh, other stuff, so I knew I was connected with Aphrodite. Gods can also contact you through dreams. Quetzalcoatl has done so twice with me, though I don't exactly know if I am one of his yet. Still waiting to figure that out.
Please feel free to ask me any questions on Wicca or how to start becoming a Wiccan! I love answering questions uwu

I've just been reading through this thread and this is all very interesting 0-0
I went through a phase where I really wanted to, idk, connect with a deity? But I couldn't figure out how to do that and eventually I kind of just gave up. My mom offered to take me to church (I grew up in an atheist household so church was never a thing) to see what was up there or something, but I didn't think that Catholicism was the path for me. I might just try asking for a sign, lol. This is all still very new to me.
The closest thing I have, I think, to any kind of spirituality is my muse, ha. He's very real to me, though he's really only in my head, a source of creativity and all that...but a muse is something most writers or artists have so I'm not sure if he counts as anything.

dude all this on patron deities is so interesting to me if I could believe in it for myself then I'm dead sure mine would be Artemis. I've always related to her in anything I've ever come across with her in it and she's the goddess of a lot of things that I'm really connected to
also I said I was an agnostic atheist but I sort of discounted spirituality when it comes to the world we live in now. I'm big into science and it's all so interesting and complex and unlikely and so little of it is understood, plus everything's coursing w/ energy at all times and there's so much infinite space left to explore. I don't know it just makes me feel the same as thinking about there being a God used to when I was Christian? it's weird but comforting

Wow this is intresting. I love learning about other people's belief bc down here in the bible belt, everybody is a Christian. Which is cool, I guess, but we just have no variety.
I was raised Methodist, but honestly I feel more agnostic bc religion is very forcible in my town. Kinda freaks me out tbh.

So I asked to get a sign in a dream and I think it worked though I still need to do research. I saw a giant snake in my dream and the snake wrapped around me almost like they were going to constrict me but it felt just a warm hug. That's all that I can remember but I hope it means something.

My aunt was a wiccan or a witch. I can't remember which one but I think it was witch. But after she died I was given a lot of her witch books and things. I've kind of fallen out of the practice once I got into highs school but I plan to pick it up again soon.
Though I have been more in to healing practice with gem stone and crystals, also learning about herbs and plants.

Also, are familiars an actual thing is wicca/witchcraft? as far as figuring out pantheons, it's usually a safe bet to go with what interests you/you feel drawn to. i was OBSESSED with ancient egypt as a child, so it was no surprise when that ended up being my "main" pantheon. as far as discerning the actual God/dess, that really depends! sometimes you're just drawn to them, but i find more often than not THEY choose YOU. as far as elements, what about them? :0 there's a wide range of topics concerning the elements, what exactly is it you're interested in? and yes, familiars are a thing- although someone else already stated this :} i don't have one, but there are spirit familiars as well as rituals to make a pet your familiar; it depends on what you believe in and what you think is best for you.

How do find your spirit animal/familiar/spirit companions? Also, if auras are a thing, how do you find that? What is the bet way/place to meditate? Sorry for all these questions, I just find it very interesting how there are so many diverse ways of thinking spiritual wise. a little tip: i'm not sure about your race, so forgive me if i'm stepping on your toes here, but spirit animal is a term used only in Native American religion/spirituality, which is very much closed. if you're non-native you won't have a spirit animal. animal guides, spirit guides, and spirit companions are all alternative terms you can use to specify your guides, however! you find them in much the same you you find a Deity, which is to say most of the time they come to you. Mine came to me originally via pendulum. I made my pendulum myself (ouija board theory here, things you make are cleaner and better since they have your own energy in them) and more or less invited a spirit to use it in communications with me. What I got was a Cherub. i've yet to actually figure out his name, i know it starts with a B but the letters just get muddied when i try to ask for it via pendulum. You can use a piece of jewelry as a pendulum if you wish, but i advise against it- the last time i used a necklace as a pendulum i ended up with a spirit that was at best a liar and at worst a demon (and not the good kind) and ended up hardcore cleansing the thing. they are very easy to make with clay and ribbon, though! auras are not my area of expertise. anybody else on the thread know much about them? my go-to meditation is to find some generic guided meditation on youtube, and tailor the experience to my needs once i'm in the meditative state. i usually do this while relaxing in bed. other places i meditate are during a nice, hot bath or when in nature, but instead of a structured meditation that's more like getting so lost in thought and inner experience you find yourself in an altered state.

I might. I also am wondering if the Corn Maiden/Mother is just a spirit or a goddess. I tried looking it up but I couldn't tell the mother, maiden, and crone triple Goddess seems to be mostly a Wiccan thing, so I'd ask one of the lovely Wiccans in this thread (such as Aphrodite's daughter) if they know anything about that, as it's not my area of expertise :}

Interesting. As for the Elements thing, sorry for not being specific, but it's basically the same as the pantheon question. Like, how do you know which Element is yours or do you work with a specific Element most of the time? Or does it just depend and the whole "witches having only one Element" thing isn't entirely true?
