Thomas chuckled along with her, taking the seat across from her."It doesn't sit too well with me either." He had to agree h that last sentence as well. "My cousins would always put things down my back. I have to admit I've done some pretty mean tricks myself. Including putting things down their bacvks. Like worms." He gave her mischievous smile.

Alice raised her eyebrows in surprise at hearing Thomas's actions, but she laughed as well hearing that. The closest people she had to siblings were her cousins so whenever they visited they did the same things as siblings would. "That's horrid!" She laughed as she said so, making it evident that she wasn't serious, "Although I would be lying if I said I didn't repay them. We were vacationing by one of the lakes in the Eastern Province, so I took that as an oppritunity to push them in, fully clothed in her formal wear while their date was watching. I feel bad now but..." she blushed as she spoke, feeling quite embarrassed by her actions. But she was only twelve at the time, her cousin was 16, and she took advantage of the age difference to make Alice eat snails.

Thomas couldn't believe what he was hearing. That a person from such a prestigious family would do such a thing. He smiled again, quite amused. This girl wasn't as bad a she thought. He barely knew her of course but from what he heard coming out of her mouth wasn't too bad. "In front of her date." he shook his head. "Well, you shouldn't feel too bad. I have to admit, it's a little overboard but still it's one of the more hilarious things I've heard." he chuckled. Suddenly then looked around. There were too many people around, thank goodness.

Alice gave him a sheepish grin, her blush going a little darker than it was. She had a habit of blushing quite easily, as she was easy to get to compared to most. Her cousin would tease her about that too but she wouldn't get on the subject. "I do feel bad though, it was quite wrong on my part, and I haven't done it since. I recieved one tremendous scolding for that, although my father was a bit harsh in my opinion. I was only twelve after all." Alice wrapped her fur shawl tighter around herself as she felt a slight draft through the window they were sitting by.

"Mmm, I guess getting a scolding isn't everybody's favorite thing after you do something bad." He looked around. "So what do you want to eat?" He got so caught up in the conversation he almost forgot he was at a restaurant.
(I have to go now. Back in an hour)

Alice smiled sheepishly at being brought back to the reality of being in a restaurant rather than someplace like the park where they could take as long as they would like to talk. "Oh right, my apologies." She adjusted her posture and then looked at the paper they had set on the table for a menu. "Salmon sounds quite delicious actually. Are you getting the oysters?" Alice glanced up at Mr. Browning.

Thomas picked up the small venue and looked over it quickly. "There's a lot of nice seafood on here. But I think I'll take oysters." He carefully set the menu down and motioned with his hand for a waiter to come over. Thomas quickly told the waiter their orders and the gentleman (If he can be called that) left. "So what things do you like to do?"

"Well, around this time of year with winter coming so soon, carriage rides are always relaxing, ice skating, horse back riding, baking, getting ready for events and the like. I know, I'm boring. I promise I don't try to be but...there isn't much I can do without upsetting someone." Alice let out a small sigh before resting her chin on her hand. Her gaze wasn't sad though, it was actually quite thoughtful or analytical. Alice didn't like feeling idle, but when servants did everything for you, there wasn't much you could physically do. Especially her being a lady of society, she wasn't supposed to do much besides look pretty, marry, and have more children who will also follow the same fate. But she wasn't going to change that. There was no changing it really.

Thomas nodded after Alice was done talking. "That sounds quite fun. To bad you can't do whatever you want. Well I don't approve of women doing everything but they should have a little more free-" Thomas stopped. The waiter had brought their food. "Thank you." Then quickly gave the waiter a smile.

Alice simply shrugged before smiling politely at the waiter and turning to Mr. Browning again. "It can't be helped, so I suppose I shouldn't worry about it too much." She looked down at her food, studying carefully before picking up her fork to start cutting into the fish. "What do you plan to do in the future Mr. Browning? Job wise I mean. Is there a family buisness of sorts your father own?" She asked before eating some of her food in small, neat bites. Eating respectfully was an effort in all honesty, she had to keep track of how much food was on her fork, and making sure it wasn't too much so all of it went into her mouth rather than around her mouth. That would surely be embarrassing, especially in front of Thomas of all people. She was growing to like him, he was quite a likeable person in general really, and getting to know him was almost a break from her uptight family.

Thomas carefully grabbed a fork and took out the oyster, then popped it into his mouth. "My Father owns a factory. I'm the oldest of my siblings so that mreans I take over when he passes on." A lot of the people he knew said that Alice Taylor was a girl who was haughty. And he kind of believed them. But he had been talking to her for only a couple minutes and she seemed nice. Someone he would actually be willing to talk to.

Alice assumed it was something like a buisness, most of the elite had large family businesses or money passed down from long ago that lead them to still be rich even now. "What sort of factory? Cotton, construction, or am I still off?" She hoped she was sort of close, but then again, Alice wasn't in that line of work. She wasn't in any line of work considering her social ranking and gender. Her family's legacy would have to continue through her being married to someone close to the family. But her parents were still upset that they couldn't have had at least one son who would carry on the Taylor last name. After Alice, that line would die out.

Thomas stopped eating his oyster for awhile, setting his hands under the table. "My family is in the iron and steel business." He told her simply. Even though he should know what kind of business the Taylor's was in, he didn't. His head was usually some where else besides business. "Sorry, but I forgot. What type of business does your family own?" He felt a little foolish for asking. He should've paid attention to his studies and father a little more.

"it's not a problem Mr. Browning," hopefully he wasn't getting annoyed by her calling him by a formal name. He seemed too lax for it in her opinion. "My family owns quite a few different businesses actually. Including a fishing one on Anderson Island, a plantation and winery in the south, and something else between Jebustam." Her father's companies had their logos on quite a few products in the east, but she had never been to the west so she wasn't sure if his products were popular there.

"Impressive, Miss Taylor." Thomas said, being completely sincere. "I can see why your family is very important and. . .influential." He gave her a grin. Thomas was almost done eating. He wondered how oitd be after they were done. They would probably go back to their families and the thoughts of this meeting would just be a memortmemorty. But he didn't know if he really wanted that or not.

"It's not like I inherit that though, my future husband - whoever that may be - though will inherit that." She added on silently in her head so don't get any ideas but she dared not to say that outloud considering she didn't know him well enough to make provocative comments like that. "But it's nice to feel like I'm important, if you know what I mean?"

"Yes, its a shame that-" Thomas stopped. "Yes it is nice. Very." He finished the last oyster and dabbed his napkin on his mouth. [/i] Three businesses. . . wow [/i], he thought.

Alice wasn't entirely sure if he was paying attention or not by the way he worded what he said, but she decided against pointing it out. Perhaps he had matters at home he needed to think about. By the time he had finished speaking, she had finished her food and looked at Thomas expectantly, "Was that all you would have liked to do with me today? Or have you found me bearable enough to stay around longer?"

Thomas chuckled at that. He hoped he didn't offend her or anything. "I have found you bearable, but have you me?" He smiled. Alice Taylor was pretty good company. He didn't know too many ladies that his mother didn't know about. She usually played matchmaker with him. He wouldn't take any lady. Unlike his other wealthy friends that would take any pretty looking girl so they could start a family. He wasn't as conservative as his parents hoped he would be. At least they didn't think he was a bad influence on his siblings

Alice smiled at Thomas as he asked his question, she nodded her head a bit, being careful to not look too eager. "I find you to be excellent company actually, Mr. Browning. And I think a leisurely day with you would be a nice break from things, hopefully the feeling is mutual." She blushed lightly at her words, fearing that her words were what she should have checked over her nod when it came to being too eager.

Thomas found Alice's words interesting. And a little assuring. He kind of liked the thought that so someone wealthy like her didn't think of him as not serious enough. Well she probably did but at least she didn't treat him like he wasn't worth any. "Then what would you like to do, Miss Taylor?" He smiled.

Alice bit her lip lightly as she thought about the question. She assumed he already had something in mind but apparently not, or he was being polite. Either way, she would answer, "Well I was honestly hoping you had an idea of where we could go, but um, a walk on the beach would be nice. The weather is actually not terrible for it, but I wouldn't want to get soaked." She hoped that wasn't rambling, and sort of hoped she could change clothes that were more suited for the occasion. After all, if he decided to pull anything, she would rather be in clothes that were well suited for the beach.

Thomas nodded. "That's very nice. Sure, that'll be very nice. We can walk a good three yards or maybe five from the ocean or else we might get into something more comfortable." A walk on the beach, he never thought of that. He didn't really think of anything before he asked her the question. think before you speak his mother would always say. He should do that a little more, especially around Alice. "You can go back to wherever you're staying and then I can pick you up. If you like." He thought about what he had just said, and it suddenly sounded odd. "Excuse me. Whatever you prefer is so right with me"

"Well if you don't mind swimming I would say I prefer that but it's up to you really." She said with a small shrug. But at his offer to pick her up she looked at him curiously, it was a bit odd to say but she tried not to pay too much mind to it. "Oh I um suppose it would be best if you came by. It would look very odd for me to come by where you are staying."

That was too forward, much too forward. She wanted to slap herself quite honestly but she didn't do so in public. "Excuse me, that was far too rude for me to say without considering your thoughts. I'll do whichever you would prefer to do." She blushed quite profusely now, and knew he would be able to see that. It had been so long since she had talked to another gentleman that wasn't speaking to her to court her. She figured at this rate the only men she would find herself able to talk to without upsetting someone besides herself were the men who were interested in her for that reason.
