[ ooh yeah, that sounds cool! I'm for it either way how's the nintendo switch? I was thinking of getting one but idk ] "Pax?" Blair asked thoughtfully. She nodded a moment later, knowing better than to disagree. This had to be some sort of initiation for Finley, if they went through with it they were in. Blair smiled and said, "Yeah, that would be fun!"
Robby wasn't thrilled with the new kid. They proved to be a fairly good fighter, if a bit weak. They'd dodged some of his attacks, but with him and Dominique there, there was no way this kid was going to win. Robby was the type to not think and just act, which used to get him into trouble as a kid. Now it worked for him, scaring underclassmen into submission. He'd always had a short fuse, and an even shorter one this year. According to his counselor he had to pass this science course in order to graduate, and to make things worse, his old girlfriend was flirting with some new meat. As if he was going to let that fly.
The fight didn't go unnoticed, after a few minutes a small crowd had formed, and teachers took notice. It took ten minutes of hollering and yelling for the teachers to sort everything out, including breaking up the fight. The teacher glared down their nose at the three of them, their lips pressed into a thin line. [ sorry this is sorta meh?? i'm not great at fight scenes x'c ]

(i love the switch! i have 3 games and theyre all fun. the new loz, snipper clips, and 1 2 switch.)
Finley definitely was not paying attention and when Riley nudged their arm they jumped a bit in their seat, a sheepish blush falling over their cheeks. Everything went right over their head, they weren't focused enough to grasp the situation, all they caught was "I'll tell you what to write," and the handwriting sample pushed into view. Working quickly they folded the note back up, sliding it to Riley who merely smirked, giving it to Enzo to deliver. As Enzo walked away Finley didn't see where they went, eyes focused on Blair and Riley, "I wanna see what's going on --" was all they got out before ducking away to the hall. As they stepped into the hall they were met with the sight of Cody hitting one of the most popular jocks in the jaw -- so he definitely wouldn't be at the party unless he snuck in. But regardless, there was something incredibly attractive about a cute guy taking on two jocks and holding his own.

Blair frowned at the fight that had broken out, thoroughly unimpressed. She wasn't surprised to see Robby, but she was surprised to see the new kid. He seemed to be doing fine, he was battered when the teacher finally broke it up, but he seemed better off than most others. There was a sort of gleam of respect in Robby's gaze as he glared down the new kid. Blair rolled her eyes, now certain that he was going to try and convince the kid to join their gang.
"How lame," Blair said in disappointment. "They barely even fought."
Cody wasn't thrilled to be in the counselors office on day one, and even less thrilled to be accompanied by two boneheads. The teacher had reprimanded them and ordered them to the office, saying they were lucky if they didn't get suspended. Cody had rolled his eyes and groaned, but followed obediently. He was surprised that neither Robby nor Dominique tried anything. As they waited for the counselor to come and reprimand them, he noticed Robby share a look with Dominique. Then he noticed the whispers. He wasn't quite able to make out what they said, not that he cared.
Robby glanced at Cody then to Dominique. "What do you think of him?" he asked in a hushed whisper.

Finley watched Cody get whisked away -- they usually hated when people gawked over fighting but they hadn't been able to keep their eyes off Cody. Hearing Blair behind them they turned to see her as well as Riley and Enzo behind them. Trying to wipe off the lovestruck look on their face they forced a quick nod. "Yeah --" they agreed quickly, cut off by Riley.
"Would've been better if new kid could fight better. I would've loved to see Robby with a black eye," Riley scoffed. As the most popular kid they almost had a thing with a majority of jocks -- they never went far with Robby though. At least they'd kissed Dominique. Most of the jocks only didn't get with them on the account of them not being a girl. Yet they weren't a boy -- making people question themselves was the most fun part.
Dominique kept his arms crossed the whole time, his typical scowl resting on his face. He was jolted from his aimless staring when Robby whispered to him, "think he would be great if not for his attitude." And by attitude he really meant 'ability to stand up to us' which was always something he hated. Dominique was always after control over situations and people. It made everything easier.

Blair laughed softly. "There was no way Robby would lose, not with Dominique on their side." Blair had never been much for the jocks, she wasn't as interested in relationships as others might think. She was all for having a boyfriend or girlfriend, but she never got far and never stayed long.
"Yeah," Robby scoffed. He hated it when there was someone even remotely able to challenge him, it always felt like a threat. This new kid -- Cody, couldn't walk around as if he was something special. He needed to be at the bottom of the food chain or with them, it was quite simple.
Cody had ignored Robby and Dominique for the most part, not particularly caring much if either hated him. They did, probably had to after that. He was more interested in getting as far away as he could. If he was lucky he might be able to even get his schedule changed to avoid them as much as possible. He'd thought he'd seen Finley in the cafeteria, but he wasn't certain. He wanted to get back to talk to them... then again he didn't know it was them, they looked different. Strange.
[ Do you want to skip ahead to a class they have together or next time they meet?]

(yeah sure!)
By the end of the day Finley hadn't seen Cody anywhere -- but that could be credited to a few things. All this new attention was dizzying so many people were talking to them now. But as they started to leave school, dejected, they spotted him, crossing the hall quickly, having parted ways with their new friends until the inevitable party that night.
They found themself slowing their walk over to Cody, suddenly self-conscious of the awkward limp that got exaggerated when they walked quicker. But at least they could hope they were more appealing now -- hair pulled back, highlights accenting their face nicely. Nerves balled in their stomach, they hadn't even thought about if Cody only liked girls. Or even guys. But they'd already made it to stand right in front of him, there was no turning back now.
"H-Hey!"

Cody's head jolted up from where it had been, gaze locked on the floor. He glanced over at Finley and smiled. His smile faltered for a moment and fell into a thoughtful frown. They'd definitely changed, they had on makeup and had highlights and all sorts of things he couldn't really understand as the furthest his knowledge went in that department was his mom insulting someone else. "Hey," he said. He shook his head, realizing he wasn't smiling and forced one. "You uh... did you skip a period to go to the salon or something?" He asked, as eloquent as always. He didn't realize for a minute how rude that had sounded, but he was genuinely taken aback. Not that he should be, his memory was cruddy at best, but even he could remember a face.

Finley winced a bit but kept a smile on their face, though it was all nerves now. "Uh -- no. Riley, Enzo, and Blair..welcomed me to their ranks? Finally after two years I got my wish. But uh..yeah, they're really good at this stuff." Originally they'd loved it, their hair looked so sleek and nice..their eye color popped! Their cheekbones looked great! But now at Cody's reaction they had to stop themself from scrubbing it all off their face right there. They weren't sure what reaction would be the most dramatic, it was silly to be upset but..they couldn't hide their recoil.
Besides, they barely knew this guy. Why were they so worked up?

[ ahhh poor Finley ❤️] "I uh-- I'm sorry, you look great it's just," it took him a moment to find his words again and he wanted to curse himself for not having a quicker mind. "Surprising." He couldn't quite rap his mind around why they'd wanted to be with these people, why they'd wished to be a part of them. He didn't get this school, but it could've easily have been his fault. Maybe he misread Riley, Enzo, and Blair. He'd heard rumors they were the popularity he'd been warned about by Finley. "So... They welcomed you to their ranks?" He asked curiously.

"Yeah, finally everyone else is off my back. People leave me alone now or they want to talk to me." As they spoke to Cody they almost started feeling guilty for associating with the popular crowd -- but what was done was done. "We're all going to the party tonight I guess -- I've never been to one so I'm kinda excited," they said with a sheepish shrug. They were trying to internally recover from the compliment -- he said they looked great! But it seemed more offhand. Nothing they should get themself worked up over. They felt like they were overthinking everything when faced with Cody, their mind in too much of a scramble.
"Hey um. We should hang out sometime. I mean it's a Friday -- I probably won't wanna stay at the party the whole time."

He managed to stop himself from frowning this time, but he hated the idea that Finley had to become popular to be left alone. He thought they were fine as is-- great even. That was just first impressions, but he usually had a good judge on character. At least he thought. He was surprised to hear they were going to the party, but smiled at the invitation.
"Yeah, we should totally hang out," he said with a smile. "Who's party is it?" He asked curiously.

Finley grinned back but it briefly faltered at the question Cody asked. "Uh -- well. It's at Dominique's house, so, uh." They gave a sheepish smile. "I guess it's kinda cool but I have to be there kinda..keep up the squad brand? But it keeps people off my back. I'll probably duck out by ten tonight. We could go somewhere after that?" They were a bit worried that Cody might be mad they were going to a jock party but..they kinda had to go now.

Irritation flickered through him for a moment. Of course it was Dominique's. A part of him was worried he'd already lost Finley to them, but he knew he was being irrational. He had one bad day, one fight. That didn't mean that Finley couldn't be with the jocks and populars and not change... he couldn't help but remind himself of how drastically they'd already changed, their appearance at least. He didn't have any right to make assumptions about what could happen, or tell them not to go. That didn't stop him from wanting to.
"Yeah. Alright." He paused for a moment, his mind still filled with his hatred for Dominique. "Oh, uh, here's my number. I guess just text me after?"

Finley almost wanted to tell Cody to get over his tussle -- but every part of them was too kind and soft for that. Some guys refused to act grown up, and those jocks were no exception. But they could tell Cody was still mad and it generally wasn't easy to reason with someone who was angry. But it didn't matter much to them, they didn't care for the jocks at all so they would barely hang around them.
They almost blushed over their thoughts -- it sounded like Cody was their boyfriend.
Finley put his number in their phone and smiled. "Yeah, I'll text you at like..ten or sooner. Got any ideas on what we should do?"

He took a moment to consider their question. He shrugged with a small smile. "I haven't really been able to see much of the town, I have no idea what's here. So far I've only been to a dog park... what's your favorite place?"He doubted the park would be a good place to hang out, but as of now that was all he'd seen. He wouldn't have gone either, if not for their moving truck getting lost for an hour and his father freaking out over it.
His anger was slowly evaporating, but he did feel a slight prick of annoyance still that Finley felt the need to go to a party just to be friends with this group. Didn't sound like great friends to him, but he wasn't exactly one to judge.

"Uh -- hm. Gosh I have no clue," Finley paused, shifting their weight off their prosthetic. "I don't go out as much 'cause it can be a hassle sometimes. Plus most places I like are closed by ten." They furrowed their brow in thought, running over every place they'd been in their head. "There's always my house -- but it can be kinda boring." After suggesting it they felt a light blush, inviting someone you were borderline flirting with to your house had certain implications.
"There's always the movies, but there's nothing good. There's a park and creek in my neighborhood but that's probably boring. I went there a lot in middle school."

He considered it for a moment, and shrugged. "A park sounds cool," he said. It was true there wasn't much in the movies, and he knew that was one of the few more common things to do among friends. He used to go out and play paintball or go camping with his friends, but neither of those were feasible options. Hiking and climbing attracted his attention as well, but he was fairly certain that'd be a miserable idea since Finley had a prosthetic.
"We could stop by your house if it gets to dark to stay in the park," he said densley. Cody's train of thought took several minutes after he had said this to reach the implications implied with that, but he shrugged it off. They were in high school and they'd known each other for a day. For all they knew he could be a serial killer or something, they probably wouldn't notice or care.

(do you want to skip the party? we can have the conflict that leads to the first death happen after finley and cody are a bit closer maybe?)
Finley flashed a grin, "it's got swings and everything. Plus a cool teeter-totter. Though it is made for way smaller kids." At the rest of Cody's words Finley felt another blush rising and they just gave a sharp nod, keeping the smile on their lips. What a day this was. The prettiest boy they'd ever met transferred to their school and now they were part of the most popular group in the school. Now they only had a few more hopes -- if the party went well their spot was solidified in the group for sure. And they hoped with all their heart that Cody was as genuine and sweet as he'd first come across as. Being outrageously cute wouldn't matter much if he was a jerk, but they could save the worrying for after the party.
"Would you mind picking me up from the party -- Riley's driving me there but they'll stay past ten. And I can't really drive," they added, a sheepish look on their face.

[ yeah that sounds good with me c: ] "You had me at swings," he said with a laugh. "Yeah, I can drive you. I just need the address," he replied. He was curious for a moment why they couldn't drive, before taking into consideration their prosthetic leg. He could see how that would make it... difficult to drive to say the least.
It seemed his bad day was slowly turning around, and maybe just maybe Finley hadn't been converted already. Maybe they'd stay the same, he wouldn't have to worry about them becoming popular meaning they themselves would change. He liked them, a lot, and he wasn't ready to lose them. Especially not since they were so far the nicest person he'd met. He paused for a moment, realizing that he was new to town. "If we got lost I take no responsibility, the gps on my phone isn't exactly reliable," he said jokingly.

"Great!" Finley had a lopsided grin, putting their hands in the pockets of their shorts to stop from moving their hands nervously. "Well hopefully you can at least make it to pick me up -- I can make sure we don't get lost from there," they said, breathing out a quiet laugh.
Their mind was drifting to the party -- they had some options. It would be nice to wear there athletic prosthetic, especially going to the park later, it was a bit nicer than their bulky one which was more realistic. But being around the popular kids..maybe it would matter if they had a realistic prosthetic or not. Should they wear pants? To hide it the most they could. Or a dress? None of their new crew had said anything about their leg earlier and they were in shorts..so maybe to could just go for their athletic one. They hadn't used it as much since they'd quit track but they kept it for scenarios that maybe required more mobility.

"I think I can make it that far," he said seriously, contemplating it for a moment. He noticed them put their hands in their pocket and get a faraway look in their eyes. He watched them curiously for a second before saying, "You're not nervous are you? For the party?"
He hated the idea that they would be nervous over a party, over their new friends. Which maybe they weren't, but he disliked that their friends wanted them to stay past ten. Perhaps he had them wrong, but a part of him was nervous about their friends, that they were mean. Part of his worry came from what they had first said to them, that they had to look out for the populars.

"Well I just have no idea what to wear --" Finley lowered their gaze, blushing when Cody let on that he'd caught them lost in thought. "I got a great dress a few weeks ago but I mean it's a high school party, I don't know what to wear," they let out a slightly sheepish laugh, a bit embarrassed by their silliness.
"I'll figure something out when I get home, otherwise it's no big deal. I'm sure the party will be fine. As long as I avoid anything illegal happening, which will be fine."

Cody had spent the rest of the day practicing soccer in his backyard, not particularly trying to hard as his dog kept stealing the soccer ball. Eventually he gave up, realizing playing against a dog wasn't really going to help him much. He didn't have any homework, so afterwards he just cooked dinner(to the best of his abilities, which were limited but he was getting better) and watched tv. He'd gathered his keys and wallet around ten, waiting patiently for Finley to text him. He wasn't getting his hopes up to much, he'd gotten ditched plenty of times after a party.

Finley eventually settled for something similar to a sundress. It was lighter and flowing, a pale peach in color. With their hair tied up and the day's makeup swapped just for a soft color of lipstick and a light dusting of eye shadow close to their skin tone. Last second they'd decided on the athletic styled prosthetic, parties tend to include moving about even if you weren't dancing and that prosthetic made moving so much easier.
By the time ten pm was rolling around the sheer amount of people and drinks was just exhausting -- they had no idea how Riley, Blair, and Enzo could want to stay for any longer. So they slipped away, ducking out the front door texting the address to Cody as they walked to sit on the porch steps of the house. Despite it being Summer there was a bit of a chill to the night air, which didn't pair well with a sleeveless dress, but they didn't know that it got this chilly. Finley wasn't used to going out, especially at this hour.

Cody glanced down as his phone buzzed. He unlocked it and copied the address over to a navigation app. His gaze swept across the living room once, resting on his dog for a moment. He'd had Toby for several years now, but the German Shepherd mix never seemed to grow out of the puppy stage. He still liked to play as often as humanly possible and had trouble keeping himself from destroying everything. "I'll see you in a bit," he said absently. Toby's ear flicked, but that was the only indication that he was paying attention. Cody unlocked the old red truck and settled in the front seat, giving it a moment to let the heater to power on. Once it had he headed towards the address, blindly following his phone's guidance. Fifteen minutes later he was idling outside of a house where there was definetley a party. Whether or not Finley was here, he wasn't certain. He sent them a quick text saying he was here and rolled down the passenger side window, searching through the sea of people for them.
