"Well that doesn't sound all too bad" Astral responded and then looked at the bed underneath him "well I guess I don't go because I don't have a reason. I don't see a point in just going for a vacation, I can't stand them, as weird as it sounds. Especially since I'd be going alone, I hate going to new places alone it's a lot less fun than having someone to adventure new places with" he said and sighed lightly before looking up again "how many places around the work did you go? When you were a flight attendant?" He then asked curiousy
---
"I more miss how busy it was, I'd neer be noticed around there. It made things a lot easier you know?" Erin responded and gave a small smile "I don't enjoy being here for that reason, if you don't speak to anyone they all end up wondering why, and who you are. It just gets tough and I really don't like it" he said afterwards before looking at one of the food places "are you hungry?" He then asked and looked over to her, eyebrows raised

Maria sighed, chewing the inside of her cheek as she thought. "I don't know, I've lost count. I worked as a flight attendant for decades, there's no way I could keep track. I kept a list for a while, back when I first started and before the novelty of it wore off, but that only lasted so long. I'm not even sure I still have the list, honestly."
--
Vanessa nodded, digesting this. She'd never wanted hustle and bustle herself, it wasn't that she hated it, she just didn't particularly like it. But she could understand isolation, especially in a small town where everyone knows everyone. She didn't comment, though, choosing instead to nod when the subject changed. "Sure. I could go for something to eat," she replied with a smile.

"I wish I could do something like that honestly, it would be pretty amazing" Astral commented with a smile "if I could do stuff like that for a job I wouldn't think twice. I'd love to be far from home all day that would be so great" he said and then shrugged "but I can see how it would be boring or anything like that at times" he added afterwards
---
Erin gave a smile before beginning to walk towards the food place "c'mon then" he said before motioning for her to follow. He was pretty hungry so going for food sounded like a great idea "so what did you do? before the war I mean" he asked curiously as he stopped once they were inside the shop

Maria smiled, looking down at her knees. "Yeah, it was pretty amazing. The hours were harsh and the flights were awful, not to mention the passengers, but everything between that kind of made up for it." Overnight flights were boring, but otherwise working as a flight attendant was the only job that had always been entertaining, one way or another. It was just draining. "Did you have a dream job growing up? Or was your reality always that you didn't necessarily need one?"
--
Vanessa followed him inside the fast food place, nodding in a way that could have been pleased or the complete opposite. "Not much, really. I was pretty young so I didn't have much of a chance to do anything but school. I never even got a job. I moved around a lot, even then. My mother was a lot like me, she got restless if she stayed in one place for too long. What about you? What did you do?"

Astral smiled as he listened to Maria talk about her old job, it seemed like she really enjoyed it and that was a nice thought. "Well I mean everyone has those jobs they want to do when they're a kid, like the whole 'I want to be a police man when I grow up' type of thing. But I never had a certain job that I was deadset on getting, maybe it was because of the family I have maybe it wasn't. Regardless I'm not too sure" Astral replied quickly, he never really thought about what he wanted to do, but life was good enough to him regardless
---
Erin looked at the ground as he thought, it felt like so long ago that he had almost forgotten what he did. "Well I was about to finish school, I had a job, and things were going well but then everything started so life kinda just fell apart" he answered truthfully but his voice was low, and he was clearly unsure about speaking on the topic but he wasn't going to just not answer. "But I mean I'm okay now so thats good" he added in a cheery tone to lighten the mood

Maria nodded. She could understand that, she'd been the same growing up. Under different circumstances, yes, but the same way nonetheless. "I guess you don't really need one, do you? It's not like most people go ahead and actually pursue that career, you know? I wanted to be a nurse, but by the time I turned eighteen I knew that was never going to happen and that I didn't want it to. And then, obviously, the whole vampire thing happened and that ruled it out for good."
--
Vanessa wasn't sure, she knew that she wasn't entirely okay, but she didn't bring it into question. "Yeah. That's good." She moved towards the line, looking over the menu. "What should I eat here," she asked, glancing to him. She wasn't picky, but she figured she could take some advice from a local. Besides, that would save her from having to make a decision herself.

(Sorry! Ipod died and I had to wait to get home before I could charge it)
Astral nodded in agreement "no I guess I don't. I mean maybe I want one, I definitely do. But I genuinely do not need one, which is quite nice" he said before shrugging "sometimes I dislike the fact because I feel like I don't deserve it, i don't feel right if I don't work for my things you know?" He said afterwards"
---
Erin took a minute to think "well I usually get the wings but I mean it depends on what you like really" he responded and gave a smile as he took his spot in line beside her "the soup is usually pretty good as well" he said as he looked up at the menu

( no worries ^^ )
Maria nodded. She wasn't sure what to say, exactly, she'd never been in his position before. "If you want my advice, you should get a job. You have all of this whether you like it or not. The problem isn't what you have, it's what you deserve. Luckily for you, that's a lot easier to fix." She shrugged as though she didn't know what she was talking about and she didn't really. All she had to back her words was a century's worth of experiences unrelated to this and the knowledge of what it was like to have no money, looking in on the rich. Not exactly the experience he needed.
--
"Some soup sounds delicious," Vanessa replied. "Warm." She was used to fast food by now, she practically survived on it. She didn't really have any other options. It wasn't like she was complaining, she was of the philosophy that if it was food she'd eat it, but she had to admit it got repetitive after a while. After a short, pensive pause, she added, "Only the pure of heart can make good soup. Not sure how true that is, but Beethoven said it once, so clearly it's not entirely false."

"Maybe at some point, right now things are in a weird place, but who knows maybe things are fixed now but that'll take time to see." Astral replied with a nod as he looked down at the bed again "but thank you for the advice, I always appreciate it" he added with a smile before looking up at her
---
"Soup it is then" Erin said to Vanessa with a smile "I'll get it with you, honestly I haven't had soup from here in awhile" he added and chuckled lightly "so do you have any clue where we're going to head off to when we leave? I'm not needing an answer but if you have one i'd be glad to hear it" he said to her in a cheery tone

( sorry for disappearing without warning this morning, it was really late and I got really sleepy all of a sudden so I decided to take advantage of that. )
"I wouldn't thank me quite yet," Maria said with a small smile. "My advice tends to be... outdated." She knew just why, too. Adapting took time, especially when you'd done it for so long already. It wasn't a skill to be improved, at least not for her. "Doesn't mean I don't butt into everything with some words of experience," she said. "I never could mind my own business." To be fair, this time he'd kind of invited advice. But she was sure she'd give unwanted advice eventually, and this would serve as a warning.
--
Vanessa shook her head. "No. I don't make plans, ever. I don't stick to them when I do, anyway. If you want to go somewhere in particular, that can be our destination. Just make sure I stay on track and it will all be fine and dandy." She wasn't sure why she was so all over the place. She was especially without plans when it came to traveling. Even if she told herself where she wanted to go as she sat down in the driver's seat, it took only ten minutes before she was headed in an entirely different direction with no idea why.

(No worries it's all good!)
Astral chuckled lightly before speaking "honestly I really don't mind, i like to get advice so long as I know the person" after saying that he shrugged and yawned lightly as he moved so his back was fully against the wall "would you mind me asking what it's like being a vampire? And being turned and such things? I've been curious for some time but I just never really had the chance to ask anyone."
---
Erin nodded at Vanessa with a smile "honestly I don't mind where I was just curious. I'm more just glad you offered for me to come, I didn't think you would so thank you" he said happily before they made it to the front of the line. He placed an order of soup for himself and then stood aside waiting for her to put hers in

Did he know her then? She supposed so. They were starting to get to know each other, at the very least. "I don't mind talking about it. What do you want to know? Like, specifically." Leaving it broad made it difficult for her to answer because there was so much to talk about. Even if she talked long enough for it to bore them, she probably wouldn't cover what he actually wanted to know.
--
Vanessa placed her order, gave the woman behind the counter a pleasant smile, then walked to join Erin again. "I don't think I thought I would, either," she said sincerely. "Not that I regret it or anything," she added quickly. "I just didn't think I ever would ask someone to join me, mostly because I didn't think I'd get a chance."

"Well what's it like being turned? How does that feel?" Astral asked curiously while he fidgeted his fingers, he felt strange asking about these things but she seemed pretty open about answering and that really helped. (Wow this is short sorry)
---
"Well honestly I'm glad we both found someone else" Erin said to her in a more quiet tone with a smile. He kept his voice like that hoping no one would be able to hear them, that could turn their trip for food really bad really quickly. "So how long have you been just goinf?" He then asked with a raised eyebrow

Maria contemplated this for a short while, nodding slowly to show she'd heard his question. "It's not painful exactly, but maybe a little uncomfortable. The whole thing is kind of like puberty, complete with growing pains and mood swings. And you know that thing mid-growth spurt where you have no control over your arms and legs because they grew so fast and you're not used to it yet? Yeah, that too, only with everything from reaching for things to sleep patterns to eating. ItΓ€s all very unpredictable for the first few weeks, longer if you don't have anyone to talk you through it."
--
"Since the war first broke out," Vanessa replied. "We didn't want to fight in it, but staying where we were was risky if we refused to fight back, so we left, my parents and I. Dad went to fight before long. My mum and I stuck together for a while, but when the war ended she was kind of defeated. She didn't want to keep going with me, so she went back to live with her parents." She knew they weren't the only family of light elementals who had opted out of fighting. There was a reason they were so despised. Still, talking to somebody who had fought, even she could understand the reason as more than just a concept.

"Honestly that sounds horrible." Astral replied with a raised eyebrow, going through puberty once was bad enough and going through it again in a short period of time definitely wouldn't be great. "Okay, what's feeding like? Surely that must be weird. I mean in general you know? Drinking blood to live must be weird at the start. How long did it take to adjust?"
---
Erin listened and didn't say a word when she finished, the war was definitely bad but that didn't sound like much of a better option, if it was better at all. "That sounds rough" he said quietly with a small sigh "I still think you made the right choice, the war wasn't at all like they explained. It wasn't just small fights, no definitely not, the battles were drawn out and most people ended up dead on the loosing side before they either gave up or were overrun and killed all together." His voice was in a low almost angry tone while he spoke, if there was anything that could get to him it would be the war and that's for sure. He had lost too many friends in it and he couldn't forgive anyone that had to do with it. Well not everyone, anyone in the beginning, the people who had started the madness.

Maria chuckled. "Yeah," she agreed. "It's rough." The next question took a little more thinking than the first, despite her having a lot more experience with it simply because she didn't think about it usually. It was so easy now. "Feeding is never bad," she said. "It's a relief even, especially at first. It tastes like blood, but the thing about being a vampire is that blood tastes good. The worst part is how you feel afterwards. No matter how good it feels or tastes, you're so aware of the fact that you just drank someone else's blood. Getting over that takes time. How long depends entirely on the person. For me it took a few years before I stopped feeling guilty, others are survivalists and need only a few weeks."
--
Vanessa nodded grimly. If he thought her situation was rough, she wasn't sure how to describe what he had no doubt seen. She'd lost her father to death and her mother to grief, but she had only witnessed one loss and she hadn't seen people die. "I'm sorry you were there for it," she said sincerely. "I'm sorry anyone was there for it. It shouldn't have happened." She wasn't angry. She had never been angry about any of it. Anger didn't come easy to her. All she felt was grief, for the people and the opportunities they'd all lost.

"So magically blood goes from something you'd never drink to something you enjoy? That's pretty weird." Astral said with a small sigh "I couldn't imagine trying to get used to something like that" he said with a small shrug. He definitely wasn't thinking about getting used to it either. Unless she decides one day she wants to turn him then things should be just fine. "Okay next question, what makes it so you only have to feed almost only once a week?" He asked with a smile "surely that must be nice." He said with a chuckle, although he wouldn't ever complain about eating he figured not having to as much would be nice.
---
"Enough of that talk, we shouldn't discuss it here. Honestly I'm not sure either of us even want to" Erin said with a small shrug before he saw his food was ready "i'll find us a table" he then said with a smile before walking off and taking a seat nesr a window. He always sat by windows, he couldn't stand sitting next to a wall for the simple fact it felt to closed in and stuffy when he did.

( all of this is stuff I hadn't thought through before, so it's a good thing we're getting to it now cx I'm just making this up as I go, so let me know if something seems weird to you. )
Maria seesawed her head. "Feeding once a week is uncomfortable, but possible I guess. Three or four times is better." She felt the need to clarify, after all, her wellbeing was at stake. "Okay, so I'm not human," she started. "I can die in a lot of the same ways, but I don't need the same things. Nobody really knows why, but we don't need to sleep or breathe, in this case, need to eat as often. There's a theory about it. It states that it has to do with death. We're something between being dead or alive and because we're, technically, not alive we don't need to sustain ourselves with human food or sleep. We're not dead, either, we're balancing in between which is why we need to make sure we stay there. Feeding gives us enough 'life energy', for lack of a better word, to keep us where we are. It's not the calories we need it's whatever spark it is that keeps you alive and us from actually dying. It also says that's why it hurts so badly when we don't get to feed. We're feeling the pain of dying, but drawn out over weeks, months if we manage to fast that long. It's only a theory, though, nobody has ever actually proved it. It's not exactly easy to study."
-- "No, you're right," Vanessa agreed. "I'll go get the food." She gave a small smile as she walked in the opposite direction, claiming his soup and then, a few moments later, her own. She thanked the staff with a nod, then walked to join Erin on the other side of the restaurant, placing a bowl in front of Erin and the other by her own seat as she sat down. "I'm starving," she commented as she looked down at her food, feeling suddenly how hungry she was.

(No you're doing great, that's all very good to me and honestly don't worry about unbalanced posts. Some material I've been giving you has lead to it so no worries xD) Astral listened along, it was all confusing to him and he wasn't sure about any of it. He took some time to digest the idea and did his best to comprehend everything she had said but most of it would take time to truly understand. "Okay so you're practically a zombie, but different." He said almost in a questioning tone but more staying his thoughts "but honestly if you need to feed more let me know, it'll take time for me to get comfortable with the idea but the more we do it the easier it is for the both of us." He said and gave a smile "okay so what is the pain like when you don't feed on time?" He then asked with a strange look on his face "like I mean, the feeling of death coming, that must be brutal" --- "Thank you, Vanessa" Erin said with a smile once the bowl was placed in front of him he breathed in through his nose just to smell the soup, and it was great. He was very hungry so he would enjoy this easily. He picked up the spoon off the table and dipped it into the soup and sipped it lightly, it was still very hot so he was cautious not to burn his mouth, that would be the worst thing that could happen. "So how soon would you like to leave? Honestly I'd love to get going as soon as possible if that's alright with you." He said to her after sipping his soup again

( thanks c: yeah, there's a lot of exposition right now so it makes sense that's what it would be like. )
"Like a zombie except I never died," Maria agreed with a nod. "And thank you, I will." She smiled, grateful for the reassurance that she could just let him know. That was much easier than having to wait for a scheduled time. "I honestly don't know how to describe it," she started, thinking back to the times she'd felt it previously. "It's like freezing to death and being set on fire at the same time, only I've no way to verify that and it doesn't really explain it right anyway. It's an angry kind of pain, if that makes sense. Dark red."
--
Vanessa shrugged in response. "No problem," she replied, taking a spoonful of soup. She hummed, pleased, closing her eyes for a brief moment. She opened them to take another bite and nodded at Erin's request. "I don't have plans," she repeated. "We can leave whenever you want to." She looked at him for a few more seconds then returned her focus to her soup and the matter at hand - eating.

(As long as both plots are going along that works for me. But we should get something going on in at least one of them soon)
Astral gave her a smile when she said thank you, he was glad they had a certain level of understanding to one another. "Being burned alive and frozen. That sounds like a ton of fun" he said in a very sarcastic tone before shaking his head at the thought "I think that's all the questions I have, but that's good to know" he said and nodded to say thanks. She didn't have to answer so he was glad she was okay talking about it. "Do you want to go for a walk or something? I'm feeling pretty restless." He stated as he went to stand up "I mean i'm going regardless but if you feel like coming along I won't say no" he said and gave a polite smile before grabbing his cup and walking to the door
---
Erin nodded at her statement, it was good to know she was open to leaving straight away if he wanted. He stayed quiet as he ate, he never liked to talk a lot whole he was eating. Once he was done he sat back in his chair more and let out a deep breath "that was great" he said with a smile as he looked down at his now empty bowl. He stood and cleared his throat before looking around "I'm glad we stopped to eat" he said and stretched on the spot, sitting for any period of time left him stiff. He was too much of an active body to stay still at all really.

( I agree. they've been talking for far too long. we have Astral's dad and the open secret door still to do, but if you want to get something going even sooner we could come up with something for Nessa and Erin, maybe? )
Maria gave a small smile and nodded. She didn't mind talking about it, it wasn't difficult to think about anymore. And it wasn't personal to her, which made it easier on her, too. "Sure," she said, swinging her legs over the side of the bed and standing up again. "If you don't mind me coming along, I'd be glad to join you." She glanced out of the window, relieved to see that it wasn't light out anymore. She always felt best going out at this time of day.
--
Vanessa finished her soup remarkably quickly but remained silent until Erin spoke. He seemed to appreciate the silence, and she certainly didn't mind it, so it stayed. "It was," she agreed, rising out of her own chair. "Great soup." She rolled her shoulders then turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "What's next?" she asked.

(We can do both, any ideas for Erin and Nessa?)
Astral gave a smile before walking out the door, motioning for her to follow as he did but he was soon stopped by his father, who was clearly furious by something they'd done. "Both of you, follow me." His father stated in almost a growl as he began walking. Astral gulped hard and glance back at Maria and gave a nod to her before following alongside his father
---
"Either we can continue exploring this place or we can head to the beach or hike the mountain" Erin answered and gave a smile, "i'm open for any of the three." He added so it was more her choice instead of her asking which was the most fun or something like that

( hmmmm... maybe someone saw them use their powers, Nessa's are really noticable since light spreads, and confronts them about it? idk )
Maria followed him to the door but before she could even step out, she was facing Astral's father. Je did not look pleased. She tensed her jaw and her leg twitched, her entire body urging her to run before things got ugly. Unfortunately for her, she had no choice but to follow. She trailed a short distance behind them both to buy herself precious distance. She had her suspicions as to what this was about and she didn't like it. She hadn't even been here a full day, dammit.
--
"No offence to this place," Vanessa began teasingly. "But it really doesn't seem that interesting. The mountain, maybe," she suggested. "I just came in from a city along the coast so I've had my fill of beaches." Either seemed like a decent idea to her, but she wasn't lying when she said her desire to see a beach had been satisfied. Travelling along a coastline had that effect.

(That works for me ) As Astral continued following his dad it was soon clear to him what had happened, they were in the secret room and that was a big no-no with his family. He looked over to Maria with horror in his eyes. Knowing his father he was expecting the worst and hoped he'd take it easy on Maria. As they entered the room Astrals father stood silent, unsure of when he should start on them. He stared at them for what had felt like an hour before he let out a small sigh "what is this?" He asked quietly, but not the normal nice kind of quiet, the angry quiet. --- Erin chuckled lightly at her comment about the mall, he could agree easily but he didn't vocalize it. "The mountain it is" he said with a smile before wandering out of the store, he wasn't sure where he was going for a moment before he remembered they were headed to the mountain. He stopped himself from wandering any further and turned to her and gave his attention to her "it's quite the hike I hope you're up for it" he stated to her firmly, and he wasn't lying. The mountain wasn't anything near a walk in the park so he was trying to make sure Vanessa would be okay with it

Maria returned his look with an anxious one of her own but quickly averted her gaze. This did not bode well for her. So much for making a good impression. Try as she might, she couldn't look at either of them again. She was busy staring down the remnants of her fallen people for the second time that day, and this time she hadn't asked for it. She hadn't prepared herself for it. She drew a shaky breath then, still looking at the spoils, shook her head. "It's... It's a room filled with things from the war."
--
Vanessa followed behind him, glad to be leaving the mall behind. She considered this new information, albeit not for very long, then nodded. "I don't mind a proper hike," she determined. "As long as it doesn't require some mad rockclimbing skills, I think I'll be just fine." She'd spent most of her life, including her childhood, exploring after all. And she wasn't prone to thinking things through for long enough to arrive at a no, anyway.

"Clearly." Astrals father stated bluntly before letting out a sigh "Astral I told you not to let anyone know about that room" he then said. Astral looked at the ground for a moment and then looked from Maria to his father "dad I thought she should know beca-" he was cut off quickly, a swift slap across the face from his father "that's enough." Was all that was said before his father began walking towards the door "i'm disappointed" was all that was heard before he was out of sight completely. Astral stood holding the side of his face, not looking at Maria or paying attention.
---
"Well I'm glad" Erin said happily to her as they walked, he was excited. Which was a strange feeling to him, even just talking to someone felt wrong. He walked maybe a little too close to her, the feeling of having someone around would be hard to let go of. If they stuck together that is, he didn't know if maybe one day they would seperate and never see each other again.

Maria flinched at the sound of the slap but she could still not bring herself to look at either of them. Not even when Astral's father had left could she look anywhere but at the floor. Not until several, drawn out moments had passed did she look up. "I'm sorry," she said carefully. "Are you okay?" She felt a strange mix of guilt and relief. She had no quarrel with Astral, in fact, she rather enjoyed his company. He'd been nothing but nice to her. Yet she was glad that his father hadn't taken his anger out on her. It was awful of her and she knew it but she'd much rather see Astral get slapped than get slapped herself.

Vanessa grinned and nodded. "Perfect." She'd found an easy, simple pleasure in having company. She wasn't sure if it was Erin specifically or just not being alone, but she did know that it was nice. She wasn't lonely, exactly, but that didn't mean she couldn't appreciate having someone to talk to again. It had been a good while since she'd last had a conversation with someone knowing she could have another in the future.

(Just a heads up but I'll be travelling today (you'll be sleeping when I am) but for the next nine days or so I'll be poofier than ever.)
Astral cleared his throat but didn't say anything, his cheek felt numb from the slap and he couldn't focus on anything else. His father had never gotten to that point so it really threw him off. "Yeah." He stated before making his way over to the still open secret door and closed it quickly, almost slamming it, but he didn't need his father to come back and make things worse. "I'm sorry you had to see that" he said to her but still couldn't look at her, he felt embarrassed and wasn't sure what to do yet.
---
Erin walked quietly for awhile, unsure of what to say. But once they were close enough to the forest line there was a small clearing where the trail began. He pointed over towards it with a smile "starts there. Should take us half an hour or so to get to the top." He stated before looking over at her "I hope you're ready" he added playfully before they got closer to the trail. He stopped to tie his shoes up tighter and let put a small huff.

( thanks for letting me know ^^ have fun wherever it is you're going! )
Maria didn't hesitate to leave this time. She was too stunned to even salute as she had earlier. She knew she should, knew that the contents of the room deserved it, but she couldn't. "You shouldn't apologise," she said. She still couldn't look at him, not straight on. "It wasn't your fault." She chewed the inside of her cheek anxiously, not stopping until she could taste blood. It was her own, not at all as satisfying as someone else's, but it grounded her. Temporarily, at least.

Vanessa cracked her knuckles, swiped non-existent dust from her trousers and wiggled her toes in her shoes. She realised that ballet flats probably weren't ideal for hiking, but it wasn't as if she had much of a choice. She wasn't going to turn down a chance to climb a mountain just because she had bad shoes. If worst came to worst she could go barefoot. "I was born ready," she replied in the same playful tone, looking up at the mountain expectantly. She was going to enjoy this.
