"Don't be, I get it. He's special to you and I'd mever ask you to do something such, I'm not even sure if I'd get you to fight against him." Astral stated and let out a sigh "but I do ask for you to help me, in those situations." He added after a minute of silence. After saying this he went back to playing around with his phone, he wasn't really sure how she might go about hearing that, they hardly knew each other and wouldn't need to protect him if she didb't wish to do so and he knew that. But he also respected it, he figured giving her the respect she deserved would help out in the long run.
---
Erin let out an audible sigh before turning back to look at her, stopping dead in his tracks as he did "what is it?" He asked her, sounding almost annoyed already, by what he was used to the next words that would come out of her mouth would be ones of negativity, insulting him, or degrading him. But hearing what she said followed by the action she did surprised him, he'd not met another person at the same level he was. It had put a smile on his face to think maybe he would have a friend, it had been a long time since anyone seemed to care. "You.. really?" He said clearly in disbelief.

Maria nodded slowly. "I'll do what I can, what I think I can live with. That's all I can promise." Despite everything, she was glad he'd asked, at least. It wasn't an order, or maybe it was just a well-disguised one. It felt like it was up to her. It wasn't like she was afraid to go against orders, she'd already agreed to do that for the resistance, but doing so openly could have severe repercussions. She could only hope things stayed this way.
--
"It's a secret," Vanessa said, raising a teasing eyebrow. "You have to promise not to tell." She looked down at her hand, completely ordinary again. "Can't say I do that often," she said, mostly to herself, then looked back up with a bright smile. "I haven't met someone of our standing before. Not since the war, anyway. Before then, there were a lot of us. Or maybe we're just hiding now. Have you? Met another I mean?" She'd gotten over her own shock rather quickly and now found it replaced with the usual, mildly curious and ever rambling state.

"I don't ask much, honestly I barely feel the need to really have someone to give orders to. Although I can't really let you go, my dad would be furious." Astral replied before taking a quick look over at her. Maybe she would say that, but he wasn't certain she'd stick to her word. But he was hoping for the best
---
Erin gave a smile to Vanessa, he already felt they would be friends. Considering neither had met one alike since the war had ended. "I won't tell a soul" he responded happily before blinking a few times to make sure he wasn't in some dreamland he'd soon wale up from. But luckily for him it was a reality, one he was happy to be in for the time being "no I haven't met another since. But I'm glad to have met you... not in some weird way I mean.. nevermind" he stopped himself reluctantly, he didn't want things to get awkward too quick

( it's time for me to take my leave and grab some sleep, I think ^^ I have a long trip to make tomorrow - I'm driving across the country to see family - so I'll probably not be here until late, which I guess isn't that late for you anyway so you might not even notice. if I'm not too active over the next few days, particularly tomorrow and friday, that's why. )
"I get it. This was forced on you, too." Maria didn't like making the comparison. It wasn't a fair one. At the same time, she couldn't leave it out. She sighed again, heavily. "What would you do if I didn't listen?" she asked after some silence. "If I refused to." The day would come, she was sure of it. In time, she'd have to act out. What use was a rebellion if it didn't rebel? Yet her position was important. It seemed that was true to Astral, or at least his family, too. If there were consequences, she wanted to know them.
--
Vanessa laughed. "You're glad to have met me in a not weird way. Got it. Being followed is definitely not weird, I agree." Clearly, she wasn't bothered. She couldn't care less how they'd met or what had come right after (though maybe she should be reading that as an omen, she thought to herself before quickly dismissing the idea,) what mattered to her was that she wasn't the only one anymore. To her, that was huge.

(Oh wow that should be nice, but don't worry about being active. Family is a lot more important than the forums lol but have a good sleep!)
Astral looked at her and tilted his head, 'what would happen?' He asked himself curiously, he knew there was a punishment, but he hadn't really heard of it. "I mean, what could I do?" He asked putting emphasis on the 'could' (only cause I can't use the full features of the forums on a phone :') ) he figured some day there would be the limit that they would both find, but he figured it would be quite some time before that line was crossed.
---
"Whatever" Erin replied sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. He knew he followed her, and totally lied to her about the reasoning, but she didn't seem to mind all that much anymore. He figured it was nice of her to let go of it so quickly, though it may be because of the fact that neither of them had found another that fell in their category. He felt it might be just because the two of them never really found anyone else like them so having one person who was would be hard to pass up. "But I mean... I'd love to be your friend, but you're leaving quite soon aren't you? This town i mean..." he was finding it hard to express himself properly, he felt very nervous and hadn't really wanted to embarrass himself. But that clearly wasn't going well

( I definitely agree with that. family is really important, especially when you don't see them all that often. )
Maria shrugged. "Report it and have the authorities deal with it, take back any privileges you've given me, keep me waiting on blood longer than I should have to. If it was severe enough, you could take it to court and give me back to the state. The sky's the limit I guess. But if I ever do refuse to listen, I can guarantee it's for a good reason. Nothing you threaten to do would keep me from doing it, just so that's clear."
--
Vanessa hummed, inclining her head ever so slightly. "Yeah. I don't stay in any one place for more than a few days at a time." She didn't like staying in one place, even before the war she'd been moving around more than she maybe should have. It wasn't so much that she wasn't comfortable settling down, though that was definitely a problem now, it was just that moving was far easier than staying still.

(Well then I'm glad you got to see them!)
"I doubt I'd do anything too harsh, honestly." Astral replied and shrugged lightly "but I understand, if you ever say no clearly I'd have gone too far. But I don't plan on getting like that anytime soon" he added before finishing the ice tea in his glass and putting it down on the small bedside table alongside a book he was reading. He checked his phone for the time and then looked out the window, it was getting dark so he figured he wouldn't be up too much longer "when do you think you'll end up sleeping?" He asked Maria curiously, the thought of her being awake for some hours while he wasn't was still something he'd need to adjust to.
---
Erin nodded and gave a smile "well I hope your travels are fun, I wish I had the chance to do something like that" he replied with a chuckle "I'll probably get out sometime, hopefully soon though. Maybe I can move and get away from that guy" he added referring to Elliot, the change of scenery would definitely be nice, and very needed. He wasn't well known where he currently lived, but the people who did know him weren't fond of him whatsoever.

( yeah, me too. they live quite a few hours from where I do so we don't get to see them often. )
Maria shrugged. "I give it another three hours, four maybe. What about you?" She had to admit that being awake while he slept was going to be weird, but at the same time she was relieved that she'd get at least a little time to herself. The run had helped, but after a day like this one, she couldn't get enough of it. She had a lot to work through.
--
"I mean, there's room for one more if you want to leave three-days-from-now-soon," Vanessa said. It was weird, offering this to someone who was little more than a stranger, but she figured she had to. She might never get the chance to ask someone else. If she continued to meet people like her at the rate she was currently going, there was no guarantee it would ever happen.

(No I get it, it takes six and a half hours for me to go see the most of my family.)
Erin raised his eyebrows, that was quite awhile before she'd sleep considering it was already getting quite late. "I was going to sleep in an hour or so, but considering it would be weird for both of us I'm sure I can handle another two or three" he said and shrugged before looking out his window "how long do you usually sleep for anyways?" He then asked
---
Erin's eyes brightened and gleamed at her question "a-are you serious?" He asked with a big smile, he would be glad to go with her, althought they barely knew each other it would be nice to get away. And considering he never got to get out of town this was pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity. "I'd honestly love to go with you" he added and went red at the thought "I mean... I'd love to go out of town with you, I don't get to enough." He stated firmly afterwards

( that's about the time it takes for me to see mine, too. a one day trip isn't exactly worth it at that point. )
"Are you sure? You don't have to stay up for my sake?" Maria said, sounding a little surprised. She wasn't sure what she'd been expecting, but she was pretty sure this wasn't it. "Four, five hours maybe," she replied. "I can survive on three or so, but that doesn't exactly leave me well-rested. And more is always welcome." As a vampire, she knew she needed about half what a human would, but she never really paid much mind to how or when she slept. She just slept when she was tired and relied on her body to wake her up.
--
Vanessa laughed lightly, amused by his apparent embarrassment, and nodded. "It's decided then. I don't have any kind of plans. I don't know where I'm going or when I'm leaving. I hope that works for you." She knew that she should warn him about this. Her inability to plan was something anyone who was going to spend an extended period of time with her deserved to know about.

"Do you really want to be awake with me sleeping in the same room?" Astral asked her sarcastically with a laugh "I highly doubt you'd want that" he then said and shrugged "but overall I really don't mind staying up too much, and besides we should try to spend time together and get to know each other really well anyways so maybe it's a good idea that i stay up" he gave a smile after saying that
---
Erin nodded, the childish smile still across his face "no no, that's fine. I'm just surprised you asked me to go along with you..." he let his voice trail slightly, still unsure of going with her. But he figured he should, she could easily be the last person he could be friends with so the opportunity couldn't be missed. "Just let me know when we're going" he then said with a nod

Maria grinned and shook her head. "No, I can't say I find that all too tempting," she agreed. She pulled her knees to her chest and rested her chin on them, sighing as she did. "So, when you say get to know each other, do you mean those sleepover questions you just have to ask people because it's a sleepover?" she said, her voice taking on a drawling tone half-way through the question. "Because those were always really awkward," she added, her voice back to what it usually was.
--
Vanessa shrugged. "I guess it made sense to," she explained, but she wasn't sure she still remembered why she'd done it. In a few seconds, she could figure out what she'd been thinking only a few minutes ago, but she didn't think she needed to. Clearly, she'd had a reason or she wouldn't have done it in the first place. "I'll do that," she said, nodding. "Let you know when we're going, I mean."

Astral let out a small laugh before shaking his head "no, I'd rather not. But we don't know much about each other, I think it would be a good idea to get to know each other more." He said with a smile "well I mean unless you'd rather not" he added afterwards and looked down at the bed "i'm okay with either" he said quietly
---
Erin gave her a smile and nodded "well, if you aren't doing anything for the next little while maybe we could do something?" He asked curiously "i-if you want to, that is." He then added cautiously hoping not to be too straightforward

"No , I don't mind. You're right that we probably should get to know each other. It'll be easier that way," Maria replied, nodding. She didn't think it could really be that bad, and there was no way it could be worse than the topics they'd already covered. "So, you know what I do with my free time, how do you go about wasting yours?"
--
Vanessa smiled, nodding. "Sure, I don't have any plans. Maybe you could show me around town," she suggested. "I am new here." Exploring with someone who actually knew the area was a different approach, usually on her travels she did that all on her own. Still, it would be a welcome change.

Astral gave a smile and nodded, he wasn't sure what he wanted to know about her but the little things will be nice "honestly, I like to read but I never get around to doing it, I usually end up going for walks or hanging out at the park kinda thing" he replied with a shrug "well I know the little things you like to do, but do you have any hobbies? Like certain things you do every week?" He asked after a moment
---
Erin smiled "of course! I mean it's a pretty small town so there's not a lot so don't get your hopes up for anything super cool" he responded with a small chuckle "but lets get started, I'll show you where the main things to do here are" he said and motioned for her to follow before he began to walk

Maria hummed, nodding slowly. "I mean, it's been a while since I had actual hobbies. With the war, you know. But before then I had active hobbies. A lot of swimming, mostly, but some group sports, too, if I could gather some vampires to play with. Growing up I had more 'ladylike' hobbies, courtesy of my mother. Piano, painting, embroidery, so on. I only ever enjoyed piano, the others were too still to entertain me."
She wondered, now and then, what growing up in this century would be like. What kind of things would, or wouldn't, she be asked to do during her childhood if she wasn't expected to become a housewife at the end of it? Those trains of thought always ended not with regret or grief, as one might expect, but with an overwhelming feeling of being old.
"So," she said, ignoring the fact that she was thinking like an ageing woman. "What do you like to read? When you do get around to it, I mean."
--
Vanessa fell into step beside him easily. "After a few days in a car, even a small town can be cool," she said, looking around in much the same way she had been before they'd run into each other.

(Oh well not like it really matters xD)
Astral nodded "that must have been fun" he commented before thinking for a moment "well right now I've been reading 'the outsiders' and it's been almost a year since I started" he then said with a small chuckle, he was often out doing something else so reading was a hit and miss type of thing for him. "But honestly I haven't been able to read many books it kinda sucks"
---
"Trust me this town is just horrible so don't expect anything too great" Erin responded as they walked, he wasn't certain where to go first but the small group of shops they considered to be a mall would be a great place to start, so that's where they went. "Well this is a mall? I mean it's tiny so I wouldn't consider it to be one but a lot of people fo" he said to her as they arrived into the parking lot of the mall

( it really doesn't, does it? it bothers me just slightly, it feels unbalanced or something like that, but it's not a big deal or anything. )
Maria nodded. "Busy, huh?" She didn't read much either, but that had more to do with how much she hated it and less to do with how much time she had to waste. Her speed extended to reading, too, getting through a book didn't take long if she really wanted to. The issue, of course, was that she could think of many better things to do than read. Some vampires used their lifetime and skills acquiring degrees in the dozens. She tried her best to stay away from that.
--
Vanessa looked at the building, nodding slowly. "A mall, huh?" she said. She wasn't sure it counted, but she wasn't one to argue. "In a town this size I'm surprised they have one, even one this small." She appraised it carefully, trying to decide for herself if this was a mall or just a glorified collection of shops. She didn't reach a conclusion before she forgot that was what she was trying to do.

(Yeah I try my best to balance my posts bu I don't worry about it too much. It depends on the other persons response as well i guess)
Astral nodded slowly "yeah I get busy a lot, but not like busy with work and things like that. I choose to get out as much as possible and enjoy life you know? Too much sitting around hurts me honestly" he said with a chuckle before shrugging. He'd definitely rather sit at the park or the beach instead of at home in his bed with a book, it just feels deathly boring if he was at home.
---
Erin laughed lightly at her comment "yeah it's pretty bad. I never considered it one but I guess I got used of calling it one to other people" he said with a shrug "wanna go check out some of the super boring shops we have?" He then asked with a smile, raising an eyebrow as he spoke

( yeah, definitely. also on how much you drag on the first. after midnight, especially, I can't write three paragraphs for both but sometimes I forget that and write three for the first anyway only to frustrate myself when I can't do the same for the other. )
Maria nodded. She could understand that sentiment, she was much the same way most of the time. Getting out and moving around was much more satisfying than just sitting around. "I get that. I'm the same way. You don't work, then? Or just not a lot?" Unlike her previous questions about occupation, this wasn't for any reason except for sincere interest. If he did, she'd have more predictable days.
--
Vanessa shrugged. "Sure, why not. Let's see what this mall has to offer." She gave a small smile, glanced over at him and then started towards the building. It really was tiny. After all her time spent travelling, she'd seen more than a few malls. This one was definitely on the smaller end of the scale.

(No I totally get it lol I can't ever write multiple good paragraphs in general so me when i'm tired? It's really not a good time xD)
"Well I have worked before but I don't really have to you know? Luckily I have the luxury of coming from a rich family so it's not needed unless I want a little extra cash" Astral replied before letting out a small sigh "but sometimes it's bot so fun. It gives me less to do. If I didn't have the family I did maybe I wouldn't complain about being bored so often" he said with a chuckle before shaking his head
---
Erin gave a smile before following close beside her "honestly there isn't much so don't get your hopes up." He stated to her with a laugh "it's some really bad over priced clothing and some really bad fast food places, and unless you enjoy that stuff I guess it's one of the worst malls you'll have seen easily." He added before walking in the doors

( posting a lot when you're tired is always hard lmao unless you get into that once in a lifetime exhausted state where instead of running out of creative energy it triples and then all you can do is blurt out things. they might be bad ideas, but at least you have something. )
Maria nodded. "With a house like this, I can't say I'm surprised you don't need to work." She wasn't rich, not by a long shot, but before the war she hadn't had to work either. Living for more than a century meant that interest started to collect. And selling her own antiques had gotten her money in a pinch. Much like Astral though, she'd still worked. Nothing that paid well, she didn't have the education for those kinds of jobs, but work all the same. "As someone who's worked and been voluntarily unemployed, I promise that work is just as boring as the lack of it."
--
Vanessa smiled. "I've seen a lot of malls," she replied as she stepped inside. "But I can't say I doubt you're right," she added, looking between the stores on either side of her. There weren't a lot, but there were a few. Some she recognised, others she didn't. "I take it you're not a fan of this place?" she asked, referring both to the collection of stores and the town. She hadn't been there long, so she was rather indifferent, but she could see why someone would have less than favourable feelings towards it.

(I've never been like that, but one day maybe I will be. I highly doubt I'd ever get like that though cause I'm hardly creative now)
Astral laughed lightly at what she had to say "honestly I see work as sonething to do, I hate having zero responsibilities. As weird as it sounds I'd rather have things to do all day you know?" He replied to her and smiled "but I mean sometimes it is nice to have a break" he added after a moment "what kind of jobs have you had? I usually just worked fast food and things like that. But considering you're a lot older than I am the jobs back then would definitely be different"
---
"Not in the slightest" Erin replied as he looked around at the stores, he knew what each of them had and he didn't really care for any of it. "I'd rather be in a big city, but considering what we are it's hard to live there." He stated with a small chuckle, he really didn't mind not having a proper place in society. Being alone was a nice thing the most of the time but he never complained when he'd make a friend or two along the way, even if they did leave him when they found out what he was.

( I get like that quite a lot, actually. I think it's because I lose all sense of a filter when I get tired, so everything just comes out no matter if it's good things I've refrained from acknowledging all day or bad ideas I should never have come up with. )
Maria sighed. "I've done a lot. Waitressing and sales when I was young, but I never stayed at a job for long back them. My first proper job was at a publishing house where I mostly managed staff, and then after that I worked as a flight attendant for the most part. I could move from airline to airline when people started asking how I stayed so young and that was that. That was probably the best job I ever had." She shrugged. It had been a long time since she'd done work like that.
--
"Hmm," Vanessa agreed, nodding. "That's why I move around. Means I don't have to worry too much." She liked doing it that way, always had. It was nice enough, and the constant movement meant that she didn't have time to get lonely. "Have you been here long?" she asked. She couldn't imagine staying in one place for more than a few weeks, months at most if she really had to, but she figured nobody would resign themselves to live in a place they hated for anything but the security to stay still.

(Honestly I'm really jealous, I haven't once been like that but I guess it's because I've never really been a creative person lol)
"I can't say I'm surprised you worked so many jobs" Astral said to her while nodding his head "how was the flight attendant job? I've honestly always loved flying but I never really get the chance to go anywhere" he then said afterwards before asjusting how he sat so he was more upright "I think the only times Imve ever flown were just into another nearby city which really sucks, I want to fly somewhere exotic and sightsee you know?"
---
Erin took a minute to think, he never really kept track about the time he had spent in the small town "well I moved here just after the war so a couple years?" He answered hesitantly, he had no clue himself on how long it was. "I grew up in a big city and then after the war I didn't have a place to go back to so I moved here" he added and shrugged. He didn't really care a whole lot about where he stayed, it's not like it mattered to him, he just saw the place he lived as something to keep himself busy. He never tried to stay home so walking around all the time kept him occupied enough

Maria seesawed her head. "It was good, for the most part. I got to spend time all over the world and it was never lonely. I spent all my time with my colleagues so we became really close really quickly. The pay wasn't half-bad, either. It was tiring, though. The shifts were long and sometimes really close together. I loved it, though." She shrugged but didn't add anything for a while. "Why don't you? Go somewhere new and sightsee, I mean."
--
Vanessa nodded. That made some sense to her. "Has it really only been a couple of years?" she murmured, so softly that she doubted he'd hear her. It felt like so much longer ago. She frowned down at the floor for a few moments, then looked up again. "You miss the city?" she asked. She would, if she'd had to leave it behind for what might be forever. But since the war, sacrifices had to be made.
