Astrals father gave a smile before going back out to get his wife, she was often very slow to get home and took time walking up to the door. After a minute or so he came back in with her, she was busy on her phone and only gave a wave to the two before leaving into another room "and that's my mother, Alice. Expect her to be on her phone all the time" Astral said to Maria with a chuckle "and that's my family, I doubt we'll be around them too much but the for the odd time we are now you know them" he gave a smile before walking back upstairs "i'll be in my room if you need me" he said and yawned as he walked back towards his room
---
Erin wasn't trying to come off as a threat, he hadn't even noticed he'd been following for so long. But it was a little too late now, "sorry I.... I thought you were someone else" that sounded truthful enough to him, he wasn't sure if the gurl would believe it or not but he tried his best not to seem like some creep, which he probably was at this point. He knew everyone in the town but nobody really knew who he was. "I'm sorry to intrude..." he added afterwards as he looked at the ground

Maria waved to Alice as she left the room. It hadn't been too bad. Then again, they hadn't exactly talked much. At least she could place the names to actual faces now. She turned to Astral as he started up the stairs again, nodding. "Alright, thanks." She took this as a dismissal, permission to do whatever she wished or nothing at all, so as soon as he disappeared she walked towards the door. It was time for her to distract herself, and what better way than with a run?
--
"Oh," Vanessa said softly, tilting her head as she looked at him. She remained perfectly aware of him, even as her shoulders sagged into relaxation. Whether he was telling the truth or not, he still had her cornered. She had to be ready to bolt. "Okay," she decided after a moment. "Who did you think I was, then?" There was nothing accusatory or suspicious in her voice, just sheer curiosity.

Astral went up to his room and changed into some more suitable clothes to sleep in, seeing as he was having Maria sleep in his bed it might not be alright to sleep in his normal shorts and no shirt. After he changed he laid down in bed and begun playing on his phone for awhile
---
"It's hard for me to talk about" he said lightly, but if she pushed the subject he could explain himself. But he'd rather not lie to someone he'd just met, even if they'd only meet just this one time. He glanced up at her and saw her watching him, even though she seemed to be relaxed he could tell things were still tense in a way. He had followed her for some time and that was strange. "Its an old friend.. from the war you know?" He added hoping to make it more believable

For a vampire, running was effortless. Maybe that was why Maria enjoyed it so much. Going at superhuman speeds never got old. There was so much to see, things she'd have missed if she was confined to a circuit that a human might choose. Usually, she'd be wrapped up in her surroundings, relishing in the temporary freedom. Today, the entire trip was spent reflecting on her day and everything she had already seen. The happenings at the courthouse had been entirely overshadowed by everything that followed. Logan, mostly. What she'd seen hours later at her new residence, too. The run helped clear her head.
By the time she returned to the house some 45 minutes later, she felt empty in nothing but the best of ways. She made her way up the stairs and to Astral's door, knocking on it lightly and, after a few moments, pushing it open. "Hey," she greeted, pushing her head in but remaining outside. "Is there anywhere for me to change?"
--
Vanessa nodded slowly. She didn't know, not really. She'd stayed out of the war for the most part, on the run even then. She hummed and not even she knew if that was a reply or not. "So you fought in the war?" she asked after a beat. "I didn't, but I had family who did. They all say it's hard to talk about, too." She wondered if it would have made a difference, had a larger number of her people fought back. She wasn't sure. Nobody was.

Astral was sitting in bed still when she knocked, he sat up to show he was paying attention and gave a smile "you can change in the washroom in here" he stated and pointed to a door on the opposite side of the room "it's always clean I never really end up here for long enough to use it" he said with a chuckle before going back on his phone again "but if you'd feel better somewhere else theres a bunch of rooms no one should be in" he said and shrugged
---
"I was forced to- well not forced. But my family said I should because I couldn't really find a job" Erin said and shrugged "but you should be happy you didn't, it was more than brutal. I doubt you'd want to hear it though" he shook his head and glanced up at her before taking a look around "I'm Erin by the way"

Maria nodded. "Thanks. I'll get my things, then." She gave a tiny smile then turned, closing the door on her way out. She returned to where she'd left her coat and bag, stopping only to grab the latter, then headed back up the stairs. Once again, she knocked, but she didn't wait to open the door this time. She simply nodded a greeting as she passed on her way to the washroom. A short while later she reappeared, out of her long sleeves and trousers and in shorts and rolled up sleeves. She sighed and grabbed her phone before setting her bag against the wall. "So," she said, sitting down next to it. "Your family seemed... distracted, I guess. I have to say, I expected worse."
--
"Vanessa," she replied easily, offering a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you, Erin." She wasn't lying. Being followed wasn't pleasant, but actually talking hadn't been too bad. And she was back to her usual ways again, entirely relaxed in this situation. Clearly, he hadn't been following her because he knew what she was capable of. That was all she needed to feel safe, knowing that they hadn't caught up to her already.
( how are they going to find out about each other do you think? any ideas? )

Astral gave a wave as she passed, followed by a smile when she returned. "Well they were busy today so it's understandable, but I feel like they get busy a lot more than they used to so expect them to be very distant for the most of the time" he said to her with a shrug "I doubt you'd want them to talk to you much anyways, I mean i barely want them to talk to me honestly." He put his phone down and positioned himself to where he'd be sitting facing her "may I ask what you got up to when you left?" He asked curiously with a raised eyebrow
---
(Well maybe Erins in some bad stuff with bad people and they get attacked and Erin could use his powers? And then feel like she wouldn't want to be around him so she shows hers to make him feel more comfortable?)
"It's nice to meet you to, Vanessa" Erin said to her with a smile "so what brings you around here? I mean i've never seen you here before... I hope that's not weird to ask but I know most people around here..." he was trying his best not to make things weird again, considering they just met because he was following her it would be nice for them to be in a more upbeat lighthearted mood instead.

Maria nodded. He was right, she didn't really want them to notice her. As long as they ignored her she could ignore them and not only focus on the job, but also feel safer in the house she'd been placed in. "Where I went?" she asked, blinking herself back into reality. "I ran for a bit, thought about everything that happened today. I think I went out past the edge of town, but I didn't really think about it." She shrugged, turning her phone over in her hands as she spoke.
--
( sure, that works! )
"It's not weird," Vanessa chirped. "I'm just passing through, staying in town for a few days before I move on again. I guess you could say I'm on a roadtrip, but it's more just going from town to town to keep me from getting too restless. I spend less time on the road than I do taking breaks from driving, honestly. And you? Do you live here?"

"It must be nice gaving super enhanced abilities" Astral said to Maria with a smile, and he was serious. If he were to be able to have those sorts of things he wouldn't say no, although he'd rather not be turned into a vampire himself. "Well I'm glad you used your time well" he said and gave a polite smile as he looked at her. He was happy, they seemed to be getting along a lot better than they had beforehand. He felt as if he could call her a friend finally but wasn't sure if she had thought the same.
----
Okay cool, would you mind being the person Erin owes? Just say it's like money or something and he gets mad when erin doesn't have it yet lol)
"I wish I could do that sort of thing" he replied and raised an eyebrow at her "me? I mean I stay here, sadly. If I could be anywhere other than here I'd be happy" Erin replied to her with a shrug "honestly if I didn't have to worry about food and money I'd be long gone. But I also don't have any real friends and I'd like to have a few around you know?" He shoved his hands in his pockets as they talked, trying to act cool at this point

Maria laughed at that. "Yeah, I guess it is. I'd definitely miss them if I woke up human one day, you know?" That was important to remember, she thought. There was so much she could leave behind without looking back. She'd be happy to age again, not to mention the things she'd be able to eat and the things she wouldn't have to. But she'd miss things too. "What about you? What did you do while I was away?"
--
( I don't mind at all! how should I bring him in? )
Vanessa nodded. "I know. You must be feeling the solitude worse now, after the war I mean. There were probably always people around then and now there aren't." Realising she'd brought up a topic he'd said he didn't want to talk about, her eyes widened. "Where would you go if you could leave, then?" she asked, ignoring everything she'd already said.

"I'm sure you would." Astral said to Maria with a smile on his face "well when you left I'd already gotten into bed honestly, so nothing really. I've kinda just been playing on my phone" he shrugged after that and stood up "do you want some water? I'm going to get a drink" he stated as he walked towards the door, he thought it would be nice to ask before he went himself.
---
(Well if we have them leave the alleyway he can see them and grab her thinking they're friends?)
Erin gulped as she talked about how things have changed for him, she was dead on and that's what made it so bad. Things really had changed for him since he was fighting in the war and now that it was over "well I mean if I get the chance to go anywhere I'd not think twice, if that tells you enough." He replied whil he tried to clear the previous thought from his mind. "Hey do you mind if we talk somewhere other than here? I've never been a fan of these types of places"

( this is a really short post, and the next few posts will probably be pretty short, too. just as a heads up. )
"Sounds pretty relaxing, honestly," Maria commented, entirely sincere. He spoke again and she looked up, then shook her head. "No, I'll be okay. Thanks, though." She smiled up at him for a moment then looked down at her phone again.
--
( that works for me. am I correct in assuming that Vanessa wouldn't get the chance to fight back herself so that he uses his powers instead? )
Venessa looked around and flushed, realising that she'd completely forgotten where they were. "Oh, of course." She nodded and started to walk, making her way out of the alleyway and into the next. Maybe she shouldn't have walked quite so far before confronting him.

(No worries! It's all good ) Astral nodded before he left, a few minutes later he came back with a glass of iced tea. He sat back in his bed and looked over to her, "you know you can sit on the bed, if you'd like. It would be a lot more comfrotable" he commented as she sat against the wall some distance away from him --- (yeah it would work pretty well.) "Cool" Erin said and gave a smile as he walked beside her, he was happy to leave that dark alleyway. As they walked he looked over to her "so what made you pick here? I mean there's so many other places you could have gone. So many better places" he questioned her and tilted his head slightly

( it's 2:30am and I just made lasagna. what am I doing? )
Maria looked up as he returned, nodding as he spoke. Could she sit on the bed? Don't make it weird, she told herself. With a sigh, she pushed herself to her feet. Reminding herself once more that this was only as weird as she made it, she got settled at the foot of the bed. "Thanks," she said with a small smile, crossing her legs beneath her. "Ice tea, huh? Any good?"
--
( alright, I'll get it started. )
Vanessa shrugged. "I don't know. It seemed... quaint. I don't really think about where I stop, so I guess there isn't really a good reason. I felt like stopping, so I did." As she turned a corner, she opened her mouth to ask another question, but she never got a chance. A pair of arms wrapped around her and tugged her to the side. And then, nothing happened. She was just held tightly enough to keep her from moving while the man who'd grabbed her turned his attention away from her and to Erin. She couldn't even fight back, not without revealing what she was and placing herself in immidiate danger.
"Erin," Elliot greeted, hostile. "You're late. I thought we agreed on yesterday, did we not? You know how these things work."

(Great things, obviously. Lasagna is always good.)
Astral gave a smile as she sat down, glad she didn't feel it would be awkward to sit on the bed. He scoffed sarcastically as she asked how his drink was, ice tea was easily his favourite drink. "Is that even a question?" He asked with a smirk "it's the greatest drink in the world!" He exclaimed before shaking his head "it's pretty watery, but it's enjoyable."
---
Erin gave a nod as they walked, "that's reasonable, though I doubt you'll want to stay long-" he was about to continue speaking but he cut himself off as someone had pulled Vanessa to the side. He was going to try to fight for her, against whoever it was but stopped himself as he heard Elliots voice. "I was just on my way I swear" he responded quickly to the question, though in truth he had no money to pay him back. "Let her go okay? I've met her just now. There's no need to pull her into this, it's between us."

( that is very true. it's honestly the unlimate comfort food. )
Maria grinned, amused. "Is that so?" she asked. "I know vampires who'd beg to differ. Blood is never watery." She was still smiling, marking her words as a joke despite the truth of her words. "Seriously though, ice tea is great. It takes the best parts of tea and removes the worst ones - the heat."
--
"I agree with him," Vanessa piped up quietly from her spot. "I really think you should let me go." Of course, this had no effect on the guy, he simply tightened his grip but otherwise did nothing. "Ah, but see, she's a part of this now, like it or not. I can't just let her run off while that's true. You owe me. I want my money. She'll serve as my insurance. Even as a stranger to you, she'll do what I need her to. But if you really were just on your way, why don't we go together? You have nothing to worry about if I get what's mine."

"Well maybe you should tell them to lighten up a bit" Astral responded with wry smirk on his face. He readjusted how he sat before continuing, "I can agree with that, the only reason I don't drink tea so much is because of how hot it is. I can't stand it" he gave a chuckle before taking another sip of his drink
---
"And what makes you so certain she has any meaning to me?" Erin responded to Elliot with a raised eyebrow "we could just settle this here, let her go and we can go talk about this and I'll get you your money okay? Does that sound good?" He knew he needed to think quick, he was completely broke at this point considering he had to pay off others and provide food for himself. He was a mess all together but deceiving people such as Elliot to get some money off them wasn't too hard, it could be considered his profession with how well he does it.

Maria nodded her agreement. "I never understood hot drinks in general, honestly. Why would anyone want to drink something scalding hot?" She shook her head like it was an insane idea. "So how did you think today went? First day with a vampire companion, what was it like?"
--
"If she doesn't have any kind of meaning, bringing her along wouldn't be a problem, would it?" Elliot asked, gesturing down the street. "Please, lead the way. Don't keep a guy waiting."
Vanessa frowned. "Sorry to interrupt this whole thing, but bringing me along definitely is a problem. To me." She was itching to do something. It would be so easy to blind both of them with a burst of light and disappear in the confusion. She only wished she could without announcing what she was to an entire town. Light spread, and quick. "You can just leave me here, that'd be fine."

"Well I wouldn't say it was a normal day" Astral began with a chuckle, scratching the back of his head as he did. "But it was pretty enjoyable honestly, I'm not too sure what i expected it to be like but this was a nice outcome. The only thing I didn't really like was meeting that guy, in the parking lot when we went to get food." He finished before taking another drink, He wasn't too sure about mentioning Logan, and what had happened in the parking lot. She seemed to tense up for awhile after he arrived.
---
Erin stood glaring at Elliot for a moment before beginning to walk, he wanted an opportunity to use his powers but that meant getting Elliot somewhere darker, which might prove a struggle. "Can't we just leave her out of this?" He pried at it again, he thought he might have had a friend in Vanessa but after this he felt like she might not care to be around him much.

"Logan, yeah," Maria sighed. "We go back a long time. He was always so open about his hatred for the system, but then, a lot of us were back then. It was still fresh. I didn't think he'd hold onto it this long. I guess I was wrong." She wasn't as surprised as she thought she'd be. Maybe if Kara had survived, he'd be in a better place. "We met during my second partnership, he was my partner's brother. The arrangement didn't end well and he blames the system. I guess you're a part of it." She shrugged noncommittally as if she wasn't sure, but she was. He'd been clear about his intentions.
--
Elliot ignored him, much to Vanessa's dismay, and started to follow him instead. Usually, Vanessa would cut herself out of this situation. She'd pretend she was flying, or maybe swimming. Maybe she'd just be glowing. But she couldn't pretend, not when all of this was happening. Her inability to escape, both physically and mentally, made her tired. Maybe she shouldn't have relaxed quite so soon.

Astral nodded "I can understand him not liking this, but why me? Is it because of my parents?" He questioned curiously, he figured Maria would have a good understanding if they did go back a long time. "Or does he just want to murder us all in cold blood?" As much as he wanted to know he figured the only real way he'd end up getting them was from Logan, but that wasn't happening any time soon.
---
Erin after a minute or so of walking turned down another alleyway, although he hated them it was the easiest place for him to find the darkness he would need "shortcut" he stated simply as he began to walk into the alleyway, after they were in the darkest spot Erin seemed to have vanished into thin air, his favourite trick. Although they couldn't see them he was still there, you could hear him moving, but he learned to walk quietly with a good pace while like this. Using his powers was always fun but it drained him quite rapidly, so as quickly as he could he manipulated the shadows as well as he could making everything around them pitch black

"Probably both, if I'm being honest," Maria said. "He wants vengeance. An eye for an eye. He thinks the system took his sister, his family, from him, so now he wants to take family from the system. In this case, your parents symbolise it. But I don't think he's too caught up in preventing collateral, either." She was less sure about this, but what he'd said about Kara earlier seemed to hint at it. And he'd always had a black and white view of justice. "He'll get himself killed if he continues like this," she added, almost sadly.
-- Oh. Oh. Behind her, Elliot swore. He released his grip and Vanessa took the opportunity to stumble back. There was no light here, nothing for her to work with. She couldn't see her own hand through the darkness, but she'd have preferred to make herself invisible rather than depending on it. But without light, there was nothing to bend away from her, and creating it was out of the question. Elliot swore again, and though she couldn't see him she heard him move forward towards where he had last seen Erin standing. Fumbling around blind didn't seem to be working for him because at regular intervals he let another angry slew of words out announcing his failure. Vanessa simply hugged the wall, doing everything she could to stay out of anyone's reach.

"That's odd, I can understand why he would feel that way but he surely he should realize I have done nothing, right?" Astral asked her, almost worried for his own safety but not really too scared because of the situation.
---
Erin, being the one who controlled the darkness that had now engulfed them, could see clearly. One perk of being able to control darkness was that he could still see perfectly fine through it all. It was one of his main strategies during the war, the only time he could really fight was when it was night. He quietly made his way over to Vanessa and grabbed her arm, shushing her as he did "it's me, Erin. Trust me okay?" He said before pulling her towards the exit of the alleyway

Maria nodded. "He knows. It's about what your family has done, the role they played in the war, and not about you. He could just as easily have picked your brother." She would have backed him up if he'd gone after Chris or even Alice. Unlike Logan, however, she'd learned to separate children from the actions of their parents. "He's not working alone," she said after a moment's hesitation. "He said something about others who wouldn't hesitate to actually fight me. If I had to guess, it's not a big group. Half a dozen maybe. If there were any more of them we'd know about it by now." Her we did not refer to the two of them but to vampires as a people. Things like that spread between them quick.
--
Vanessa, realising she had no choice, nodded and followed. Knowing that he was like her, more like her than most elementals even, certainly helped. Sticking close to Erin instead of the wall, she headed towards the exit of the alleyway, leaving Elliot still fumbling around loudly inside.

"I'm assuming there's not much I can do about this, I know you wouldn't help me try to stop them. You seem to have a bond with him." Astral commented with a smile "not in a bad way of course, I'd be the same in that sort of situation." He then added more to make sure he didn't anger or annoy Maria
---
After a few seconds they emerged out of the dark alleyway, Erin didn't say anything but kept walking, not pulling her along anymore. After something like that he knew he'd not want to be near her. If by chance she was one of a different element it was most likely she'd not want to see him and that was a fact, it was also a fact he was used to at this point.

( this took forever, sorry )
Maria would have been a little affronted, but she was already full of other emotions. So, she simply picked at a loose thread on her shirt to release her frustration. "No, you're probably right. The best you can do is wait as see if they come after you again. I'll do what you tell me to when it comes to whoever he's in this with, but Logan is different. I won't do anything that harms him. That includes tracking him down." The worst part about this whole thing, she thought, was that Logan was supposed to live. She wasn't sure if that could still happen. "I'm sorry."
-- Vanessa stood still, stunned, for a few seconds. By the time she realised her was already moving, she had to run to catch up. It took her a while to realise why he wasn't looking back. Most people wouldn't want anything to do with him now. For her, the opposite was true. "Hey!" she called, running to stand in front of him. "You, um, should probably know something." She glanced both ways then opened her palm, letting light stream out towards the ground. "Fair's fair."
