@ skittles: yep, just need the name, age & gender of your character )
The thanking didn't feel genuine, but if he was being completely honest, Niko couldn't care less. He shrugged a single shoulder as he walked, gaze set firmly ahead and mouth in a thin line as he considered the circumstances. If the leader of a taken-down gang was here, did that mean cowardice or something else? He had mentioned needing protection, but...from what? Other gangs? Once you lost your gang, you weren't that big of a threat. Maybe that was why Niko had taken him in; to gauge the threat level.
"Fine is a state of contentment," he snorted, "you don't seem very content. You might want to rethink the meaning if you think that you're fine."
Nonetheless, he focused on walking and it wasn't long until he spotted the apartment building ahead. It wasn't anything fancy - tiny, if anything, and it looked to only be three floors. He entered a numeric code into a keypad and only held the door long enough for them both to get in - if Kaden missed going through, then Niko decided it wasn't his fault (but it would be easy enough to let him in).
It was a quick walk up two flights of stairs before he stood in front of a plain white door, with a similar one opposite. He took a moment to open the door before he entered, taking off his shoes and kicking them to one side. The apartment, itself, was small. A tiny hallway had a single door that led to a bathroom, and then a door straight ahead lead into a small living area. Another door led to a tiny kitchen, but it was hard to tell where Niko, himself, slept. He simply focused on entering the living area and turning on the television for some background noise.
"I have a spare key somewhere," he hummed.

(It's so good! You gotta read it! Aftg is everything <3 it's got a good amount of action, character development, really well written and a great romance that doesn't focus too much on it being a 'romance' and take away from plot Wow that's late! Are you in the UK?)
Kaden folllowed behind the man, his hands still in his pockets and mouth set in a line as they walked. He had a million thoughts and questions in his head. Why was Niko doing this for him, someone who had likely only caused him irritation in the past and despite skills he could provide he was still an enemy. He didn't want to be at anyone's mercy again and every time he thought about it he threatened to boil over in anger at himself, the situation, and even Niko despite the fact that the man had more or less saved him.
He also thought about his next course of action. He would obviously do whatever tasks the new leader required of him, make nice with the rest of the gang if that was even possible, and work out his next move. He needed some sort of proof he wasn't the murderer, but to do that he needed to find out who had framed him without having anyone else catch on or be involved. It was going to be difficult and for the first time in his life Kaden really didn't know where to start, he felt lost.
His eyes flickered from the ground back up to Niko as he spoke and he glared daggers into the man's back. "Okay then. Not fine. Just not in need of pity." He shot back. He loathed pity, people looking sadly at him like he was the near dead rat the cat was toying with before it would kill him eventually. He had been the poster boy for pity when he was a kid, but by the time he joined the gang he hadn't felt those gazes anymore, people saw him for his capabilities and didn't care about his past which had been immensely refreshing.
When they approached the apartment he watched Niko punch in the code then slipped in behind him and let the door rattle closed. Kaden took his shoes off at the door and left them beside Niko's then looked around the place. It was nice, small enough to be homey and an escape from everyday life. He didn't ask where he'd sleep, he would take the floor at this point, but he wondered where Niko slept since he wasn't sure where the bedroom was. "Where's your room?" He asked, fairly sure it would be off limits. It was one thing to let a rival into your home, another to be dumb enough to let them into your room.

( i'll definitely check it out when i can ! tbh i find it hilarious that andrew refuses to acknowledge that its romance. his entire mood is "no romo" ja !! )
"I don't pity people."
Niko's words weren't unkind, but they were the truth. He took off his hoodie and threw it over the back of his couch, picking at the sleeves of his long-sleeved shirt momentarily before he backtracked to the bathroom. From the cupboards there he pulled out some bedding, and threw them on the floor of the living room, before entering the kitchen.
It took him a good few minutes to come back with a small futon. He used his hip to push the couch aside slightly before setting up the futon, throwing the bedding over it and making a vague gesture.
"There's your bed," he said, "you're lucky I still have that futon. My room is behind that door," he gestured to the wall, which was covered with various posters - most of them from games or books. However, upon closer inspection, there was a door behind posters. It was a clever hiding system, but it hadn't been done for him to hide. Just because he felt the room looked better without a door. "I wouldn't have told you, but since you're crashing in my living room, you'd probably see me go in and out of it."
The television was flicked to the news, which had been dithering between various natural disasters, problems in other countries, and the gang being disbanded. He snorted softly at it as he sat on the couch, leaning back and crossing his legs.
"What do you want for dinner? I'll get takeout. Don't say that you don't mind, because I might not offer to let you choose again," then, he motioned his hand around, "sit down. You live here now, and I'd rather you acted like you lived here rather than like you were a guest."

(It's so good I feel like you'd really like it! Haha yeah Andrew doesn't want to acknowledge it at all)
Kaden was actually relieved to hear those words. He hadn't gone to Niko hoping the guy would feel bad for him and help him out, he had just needed someone to see the value in having him on their team and give him that opportunity to get back on his feet. Pity was the last thing he water or needed and he was relieved to have somebody, even if it was Niko, understand that,
His eyes followed him as he moved space around in the small apartment to make room for his new guest. The living room wasn't an ideal sleeping place as afar as safety was concerned, but his other sleeping choices currently was an alley behind a restaurant so he was grateful for the stub up. He glanced at Niko's room and was curious if the posters actually represented his interests, or were just meant to hide the room. It was weird to see a little slice of life from a man he would of considered an enemy 48 hours ago.
Kaden's attention was now on the tv. He had seen a few mugshots of his crew out of the corner of his eye and now couldn't look away. Thankfully the volume was turned low so Niko couldn't hear the details and Kaden was fairly sure they were being kept under wraps anyway. He winced inwardly at a flash of the crime scene, blood and bodies in black bags, the bodies of his friendsl it took him a moment to realize Niko had spoke to him and a second to catch up on what he had said.
"Uh, Mexican. Haven't had that in forever." He replied, mind still elsewhere. He hadn't been able to sleep for a day or two and eating had been out of the question unless he could steal something off the carts selling food on the street, so he was fairly famished, but wouldn't admit it to anyone.

( i have 0 money right now bc of impulse buying my own xmas presents but i'll definitely look into reading when i have money !! andrew refuses to acknowledge his feelings. they r too mushy )
"Mhm," Niko focused, now, on flicking through paper menus in an attempt to find something--there, Mexican. He walked away to the little hallway to place the order over phone, before returning to the living room and studying Kaden with something akin to curiosity.
With him, it was hard to tell what was going on. Easy to tell when he was thinking or considering, but most other emotions were quieter. A small smile here, a disapproving frown there. Always with his family, but he really didn't know what to consider this man. Even as he crouched down to rummage through his games to find something he felt like playing, he kept his mind on the ex-gang leader he'd taken in.
"Mexican's on its way. Now that we have you settled and food is coming, I have to know if you have any clothes besides what you're wearing. If not, I'll call someone and we'll get you some," he found a game he wanted to play and turned on his playstation, thus cutting the news off. He did glimpse the crime scene, but paid no heed to it. It wasn't his business unless it became dangerous for his own gang. "My clothes probably won't fit you."
A controller in his hand, Niko returned to the couch and curled his legs underneath him, gaze focusing on Kaden again. He wondered how the man felt - to have lost everything and to have had to stoop so low as to ask another gang leader for help. It had to be annoying to have to live with his new leader, too. It amused Niko, to a degree, but he didn't say anything that would annoy the guy. Yeah, he didn't pity him, but he did know how he'd feel in that situation. He was surprised that Kaden was as controlled as this.
"If you need anything, you can come to me," he added, despite his gaze now being on the television and thus his focus in his game. "I won't kill you for basic human needs, and I'm not heartless. You're one of mine now, and that means you're part of a family. As long as you're respectful, we should be fine."

(Ugh I feel that I spent way too much on friends Andrew runs from his feelings which is Lowkey relatable
Replying but I have to restart my iPad it's going way too slow)
"I've got like one other shirt, clothes would be good but I can wait until morning." Kaden replied, now that it was on play station it was easier for him to focus and block out the news that had been broadcasted. What got him the most were the way his friends were treated on the news. Yes, they were criminals, but his crew were still people and a lot of them were dead. He looked Niko over a moment and shook his head. No, he supposed the other man's clothes wouldn't fit, he was shorter than Kaden by a few inches, but Kaden was lankier. He watched the other man a moment then sat back, trying to relax himself at least a little.
He clenched and unclenched his fist opposite to Niko and tried to get his mind off of things if he ever wanted a chance to sleep that night. What he could really use was a drink, but he wasn't sure how Niko would feel about that so he avoided asking. It probably want the best idea anyway, temporary fixes weren't useful, neither was feeling bad for himself and waking up in the morning with a hang over. He kicked his legs up on the coffee table since the man had said make himself at home, and watched him play.
He was surprised by Niko's next words and wasn't quite sure how to take them. Was he really willing to accept him so quickly? He realized up until that point he had still thought of the situation as having potential to be a cruel joke waiting to be played. But Niko was genuine and straight up with him, which Kaden could appreciate. "Thanks." He muttered, although unlike last time it was evident he meant the word sincerely. It felt good to have someone having his back again.
"You got a shower? I could use one." He admitted, he knew he had blood on him, his own and others, in addition to dirt and grime from having been on the run for the last week.

( i spent a scary amount on my mother + one of my friends & then a Way Scarier amount on myself bc a) i had a lot of stuff i needed and books andrew being lowkey the most relatable character in aftg @ skittles: ja ja i'll do it in a moment ) Nodding along to Kaden's words, a ghost of a smile passed Niko's lips. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad, once the other man felt a little better. He reminded himself to send a text to someone to get some clothes for him, though, which meant he'd probably have to ask about sizing soon. Oh well, problems that could be helped later. "Welcome. Yeah, I have a shower," he paused his game and gestured to the small entry hallway, "the door in that hallway is to the bathroom. There should be everything you need, feel free to use whatever. Meds cabinet is off-limits, though, if you mess with it I will end you." It was hard to tell whether or not he was serious, since he went back to playing his game. He seemed to be completely content - relaxed enough to not really pay much attention to what Kaden was doing. This was his home, his safeplace away from his gang, when he needed things to be quiet. It was filled with things he loved, and it was comfortable. Admittedly, he'd have to get used to another person living here, but he'd figure it out eventually.

Mornings in the Moulin household were, if anything, hectic. Living with their mother and three siblings in an apartment meant for two people meant that it was cramped, there were arguments over the bathroom, and loud, rapid Spanish was spoken as their mother tried to usher the two youngest to the car, while the two older tried to dodge past everyone.
When that was all said and done, though, Felix didn't mind. As they ushered their slightly-younger brother out of the door and waved goodbye to their mother, they thought over the plans for their day. Nothing in school really interested them, and though it was their last year, they didn't really know where they wanted to go in life. Art School, maybe, but they weren't really sure if they could afford it, even with their part-time jobs.
"Hey, Fe," said their younger brother, Raphael. "Can you help me with my homework? I completely forgot to do it, and it's gotta be handed in today."
"What homework? If it's Spanish, then you're on your own," they frowned thoughtfully, keeping their pace brisk as they walked towards the school. Their hands were shoved into the pockets of their black bomber jacket, head turned slightly against the light rain. "You should be fluent."
"Not my fault," Raphael shot back, a firm tone with kind eyes, "it's just math."
Felix gave a quiet 'eh' sound and pulled a hand out of their pocket to make a vague gesture, giving a wicked grin as they passed the school gates. Raphael stayed closed to them until they reached their lockers.
"I need it after lunch, so I'll come find you at lunch," their brother said, before shoving Felix away. With a quiet laugh, Felix went to their locker and opened it, rummaging through to find the books they needed, frowning at the mess they'd made over the year. Did they have gym today? Probably. Not like they brought their kit very often, though. They rummaged a little further until they found what they needed and shoved it into their messenger bag. Then, they slammed the door of their locker somewhat roughly, causing a few people nearby to flinch.
"Sorry, sorry," they gave something of a dramatic bow, "you know how these things are. Cheap and won't shut."
A few people who knew Felix rolled their eyes at their dramatics, but decided to go back to ignoring them. They grinned, another wicked-sharp movement, and leaned back against their locker to consider the people around them. Today was definitely a good day to skip some classes, maybe go behind the school for a smoke. They didn't know. The day was full of endless possibilities, most of them repeating what they'd done before.

Startling that Andrew is relatable lol he's wild but it's true)
Kaden nodded and grabbed a towel from the closet. He found the bathroom closed the door and turned on the shower to let it heat up. Pulling off his shirt he assessed his bruises, nothing too bad or worth complaining about besides a particular nasty purple spot over where his kidneys were. It was healing though and if he was going to have kidney damage it would have already been prevalent. He finished stripping and stepped into the shower, rinsing his hair, washing his face and allowing himself to close his eyes for a moment and breathe. He had just lost so much and the weight was crushing on his shoulders, but he had to bear it longer.
Stepping out and drying his hair so the semi curly locks were ruffled and darker than usual he pulled his pants back on, but didn't bother with his shirt since he had a spare and it was too dirty. He took a breath then glanced at the medicine cabinet. It was tempting, he was fairly sure a quick peak with the door locked out be okay, he just wasn't supposed to 'mess with anything' which meant taking stuff out in his definition. He was too curious not too and he was fairly sure Niko would do the same if roles were reversed. Or Kaden was a suspicious and nosey person who couldn't mind his own business. He left the water running and quietly opened the medicine cabinet, he didn't plan on touching or moving anything.

The medicine cabinet was, at first glance, a fairly bare place - but he kept prescribed medicines in there, as the title of the cabinet would suggest, and there were a fair few of them. Honestly, it seemed normal - prescribed pain medication (not surprising considering what his job was), anti-depressants (again; unsurprising), and a few others. Abilify was at the front, a med he used more often than the rest.
Meanwhile, Niko was quite content to simply play his game. He was relaxed, nothing too big. He glanced up as the intercom buzzed and allowed the delivery guy in, before going to meet him at his door. It was with quiet gratitude that he paid for the food and took it into the living room, setting the bags on the table before moving to the kitchen to get a couple of plates and glasses for drinks.

I'm back! ^^)
Kaden looked each medication over, he went over each in his head and their possible uses. He wasn't judging Niko at all, or necessarily planning to use the information in any way, but it was better to know as much as he could when he was in an unfamiliar situation. He would keep them in mind, but for now all he had was curiosity with no intent to use it against him. His attention was on the Abilify which he knew could be used for treating bipolar disorder, but more commonly depression. He didn't know how he felt about that, certainly not judgement, but the man seemed fairly put together, but Kaden knew better than most what you put out to the world doesn't always reflect the truth. Kaden reminded himself that despite his distrust in others, Niko had done much more than he had expected. He quietly closed the cabinet, ruffled his hair once more with the towel so it was only damp and not dripping then he left the bathroom.
He smelled the food the second he came back and it was everything he could do to keep himself from running over and scarfing it down. He shuffled through his backpack until he found the cleaner shirt, a dark grey Henley that he pulled on quickly and the focused his attention on getting his food. "Got any beers?" Kaden asked when he saw Niko in the fridge grabbing drinks.

( sorry ink ahh i forgot to check back
WELCOME home win )
If Niko was surprised when Kaden entered, he didn't show it - which was intelligent. It was more likely, however, that he had heard him coming. Either way, he crouched down to grab a beer before setting it on the table for Kaden, before closing the fridge and instead choosing to pour himself some whiskey. Once that was done, he moved away and sat down, setting his glass on the table and getting himself some food before he settled against the couch with his legs crossed.
There were many topics he could bring up, most of them relating to the gang that the ex-leader had lost or as to why he'd ended up coming to him, but he didn't ask them. Instead, he decided that gang-talk could wait until the morning, when they were actually with the gang.
"Are you into any games or sh*t or do you not have a stress relief?" he asked instead, picking at his food in an idle manner.

Thank you friend!! How have you been?)
Kaden was tense despite his shower, he didn't feel comfortable in Niko's house, but it took him quite a while to actually get relaxed around anyone, let alone consider trusting them. He grabbed his food from the kitchen and his beer then say at the table and started eating. He was trying not to go too fast, but he was a lot hungrier than he realized. He took a breath only to open the beer and take a long sip. He was glad to not be interrogated by Niko even though he had every right to ask questions. But this one was easier than he expected.
"My stress relief is that right there." Kaden snorted and motioned to the whiskey. "But I like games if I've got time." He shrugged and sipped his beer. He was down to play, but he was a competitive person. He hadn't been able to sit down and play video games in a while so the offer wasn't one he wanted to pass up.

( @ inky: ok!
@ win: sleep well ! )
"Not particularly healthy," Niko mused absently, continuing to pick at his food. With one hand, he somehow managed to keep his game going - either through sheer determination or skill. One of the two.
In all honesty, he preferred books. He was a book person. His room was jam-packed with books, though that was where they stayed due to the private nature of his bedroom. It was just one of those things where not very many people knew about his interests. Games were an obvious thing; even his younger gang members knew about that. Books, though? Not many expected it from him.
"Okay," he said simply, pausing the game once again and taking a sip of whiskey, "not tonight because I want to sleep soon, but we should game together some time. And as long as you don't save over my save files, you can play whatever I've got laying around."

"Do I look like a picture of good health?" Kaden asked with a roll of his eyes. He had dark circles under them from lack of sleep and a general street look, he had seen plenty of fights and more in his short twenty two years. He watched the other man continue playing his game while casually eating, which made him regret offering to play because he would not have that kind of skill and Kaden hated losing. He hadn't played a video game in a long while, he just didn't have time. His home had been simpler, a shelf for books, a tv for keeping up on the news and possibly watching a show, and plenty of vodka.
Kaden had finished his food and if was all he could do not to lick the plate clean he had been so hungry, now he finished his beer and crushed the can before tossing it into the trash. He got up and cleared his plate, he knew it was late but didn't have any real idea of what time it was since he had destroyed his phone and the watch he used to wear was gone which was a bummer.
"Thanks." He said, another show of slight gratitude, it was beginning to frustrate him. Thank yous made him feel more vulnerable and weak, but he also had to recognize Niko's laid back kindness. If all his gang were this chill Kaden didn't think he would have as much of a problem with them as he had assumed he would when he came up with the plan.

"No. You look like you've probably seen better days," if the other man was expecting Niko to lie on his behalf, then he would learn soon enough. Niko was not a liar. Perhaps he occasionally managed to lie through omission, but anything else was a major 'no' in his books.
He finished his glass of whiskey and set his controller down as he decided to eat his food properly, before turning off the console and switching it back to the television. He put the remote on the table for Kaden before he headed into the kitchen and put his dish and glass in the sink. He could deal with the washing up in the morning. Once that was done, he moved to the bathroom to quickly brush his teeth and then went to the door of his room, pausing by it and tilting his head to look at Kaden.
"Yeah," he said. "Good night. There should be a spare toothbrush underneath the sink. Tomorrow I'll find you a key or get you one for this apartment so that you don't have to wait for me if you get home before me. We'll get you new clothes, too. Is there anything else you need aside from that?"
He, personally, didn't know if his gang would accept Kaden. While they were a fairly accepting group, Kaden was...well, he had once led a rival gang. A rival gang that had suddenly been attacked by the police. If they didn't accept it immediately, then it was their right - what sort of danger could they be in? He didn't like to think about it.

Kaden smirked a little at that comment, a slight smile that tugged at the corner of his mouth. He liked honesty, valued it. Lying was not something he respected in most cases, but sometimes he had to admit it was necessary to keep certain truths hidden, like the extent of his situation. His survival mode had kicked in and with people after him he had to be smart if he wanted to stay alive, because someone else certainly didn't want him to be breathing still.
"Alright." Kaden agreed, it would be good to not have to be the man's shadow, with his own key it was some sort of trust and freedom. Although it was probably more because he knew the man was in no position to kill him if he wanted a new gang so there wasn't much point in being cautious. "I don't know, not that I can think of. Maybe a phone as long as it can't be tracked and a watch?" He suggested.
Kaden ran a hand through his had then sat down on the couch that was to be his bed with a heavy sigh. It was a lot comfier than he had expected and honestly he would have slept on the floor if he had to this was certainly an upgrade. "Night." He murmured, but didn't feel comfortable closing his eyes to sleep until the other man was gone. He had a lot of thoughts running through his head, flashing images of raid that took down his gang. What the police had tried to charge him with, then escaping before he could go to jail. His friends bodies were what haunted him most at night, he had already had insomnia before, but now the only way he could sleep was from being so exhausted his body practically shut down anyway.

For a moment, Niko studied the man. He then dipped his head slightly and opened the door, entering his room before he shut the door once again. He exhaled once he was in his room and made sure that his bedroom door was locked, then moved away to change for bed. A simple routine, nothing major. It was strange having someone in his house, but he'd deal with it.
Unfortunately, sleep would not allow Niko to rest for long. By his phone's time, he woke up at around five in the morning - and the sun was not yet up. He grimaced as he sat up, wiping sleep from his eyes and staring at his window. He must've been sitting there, barely responding, for about ten minutes before he could heave himself out of bed, grabbing a towel and unlocking the door to his room.
As if on autopilot, he headed to the bathroom. If he was aware of the other man in the living room, he didn't show it. He was in the bathroom for another ten minutes, showering, brushing his teeth, taking his medication - it was only when he finished his routine that he took a moment to realise that he was about to walk through the living room in just a towel. Alright. Whatever. There was a chance that Kaden wasn't even awake - so he simply walked through the room with a hand on the towel around his waist to ensure that it wouldn't fall, and entered his own room to get dressed. That done, he walked back from his room and made sure the door was firm before he walked to the kitchen to find himself something to eat.
While he did all of this, his mind wandered through the previous day's events. Alright. He'd had weirder.
