(I don't mind! ^^)
Kaden took a deep breath in and then out before he unlatched the gate and jogged up the steps that lead to the porch. The lights appeared to be off inside and there was a package off to the side that had obviously been delivered, but not retrieved. Not a good sign, but he supposed if he couldn't smell an awful rotting scent from outside she was likely alive in there.
He raised a closed fist to the door and knocked loudly. "Mom! It's K, are you in there?" He called loudly. After a few minutes of no reply he knocked louder "Mom!! Come get there door geez." He yelled, but out of fear of making too much noise to draw outside attention he decided just to pick the locks. He huddled in front of the door and only took a second for it to click open. He slipped inside and closed the door gently.
The house was messy, blankets all over the couch, remainders of an old fire in the fireplace and plenty of dishes stacked in the sink. At least she was eating. Kaden looked around for any evidence of her drugs, he opened trashcans and cookie jars, but found nothing which wasn't enough to comfort him yet. He glanced around the bottom floor one more time then headed upstairs to her bedroom. The door was closed so he knocked the back of his knuckles against it lightly. "Mom it's Kaden. You there?" He called hopefully and after a minute a soft, reply could be heard, but he wasn't sure what she had said. It was enough for him that she spoke so he opened the door and entered.
Helena was a frail woman, she was petite and stood close to 5'3" with pale skin so thin sometimes it felt like you could see her bones through them. Her hair was a light brown and slightly curly with the same sharp cheekbones and stormy grey eyes as Kaden. She was a pretty woman, but she had lost a lot of her beauty from her habits in addition to a good deal of weight. She sat in her bed now, a small light on with a water glass and a book at her side, she seemed incredibly spacey and it only took Kaden a moment to notice the prescription bottle at her side in the bed. Nevertheless her face lit up when she recognized her son and she held her arms out warmly. "Kaden my darling I've missed you." She breathed happily and waited for him to come hug her.
He felt his heart sink, he had been hoping she was clean, but he was happy not to see any needles lying around. He crossed the room and gave her a tight hug, he had expected this, but it was still hard to watch her chip away at her health. "Hey mom." He murmured into her hair then sat down beside her and began to catch her up on everything that had happened in the past month as she held his hand and listened patiently.
It wasn't until two in the morning when Kaden walked home. His mother had fallen asleep at 11 and he has stayed by her side and help her hand a little longer, he just wanted to be in her presence. Then he went to work helping her clean up and doing little things around the house she couldn't do. He thought about taking her pills away, but if he took those she would just find something worse and he had no time to watch her currently. He finally decided to walk home and arrive back at the apartment around three. He kicked his shoes off and promptly passed out on the couch, only to wake up hazily at Niko's return.
He sat up and leaned over the couch. "Hey." He murmured tiredly, but felt his heart skip a beat when he saw the blood. He quickly stood, concern evident on his face. "You're hurt?" He asked and stepped forward incase he needed help.

Noting that he appeared to have woken Kaden, Niko only spared a moment to feel guilty before he looked down. He shifted his weight so that he wasn't pulling his stitches, and half-limped over, sitting down gingerly on the edge of the couch and, momentarily, was glad that the blood was dry.
"Mmm," he replied, "only a little. I went to the hospital and they stitched me up, so I'll be as good as new, soon. Just...have to rest."
He dug around in his pocket and dialled Maria's number, holding the phone to his ear and frowning as it rang. Usually, she picked up immediately. It rang through until it went to voicemail, but he ended the call without sending a message and sighed softly, slowly taking off his jacket and hissing out a breath as he did so.
"I'll be fine," he said, because it was the truth. "How was your mother?"

Kaden stood there with his hips rested slightly against the couch, a concern frown on his face as he watched Niko. He knew it would go south, which meant whoever was doing this was aware of Niko's contacts something he had said was very well hidden.
"You got shot." He breathed out in frustration. If Kaden had been there could he had helped more? Maybe. It was hard to tell, but it didn't keep him from feeling guilty about Nik's wound and concerned. He was lucky he wasn't dead even if he would recover just fine.
"Tell me if you need anything alright?" Kaden said earnestly and watched the other man. He was in obvious pain, but considering he had just been shot he was doing much better than a lot of people would. He must have a good tolerance for pain.
"She was safe, for now. I'm worried about her being in the city still and alone, plus she's using again so there's that." Kaden explained, his frown still evident since he was obviously worried about several things currently. "She was okay though, it was really good to see her." He admitted then glanced at Niko's phone. "Who are you trying to cal?" He asked. It was six in the morning which meant that person was an early riser or was hurt.

He supposed it was fairly obvious, but he flicked his gaze to Kaden and exhaled slowly through his nose, leaning to his injured side slightly. With stitches to the front and the back, he was more concerned in how he'd sleep - though now that he thought about it, the answer was 'not well'.
"I did," Nik shrugged the shoulder of his uninjured side, but still paused at the jolt of pain. Hell, this was going to be something he had to deal with. He wasn't sure how long it would take him to recover, not with how active he was going to be. Investigating Maria's sudden silence would definitely be one thing he had to do.
A small, tired smile passed his lips, and he brought his legs up so he was half-laying on the couch, shifting back so that he was taking as little room as possible so that he wasn't completely invading where Kaden slept. His energy, he noted, was depleting; the adrenaline was wearing off and he was tired and in a lot of pain. With only slightly shaky fingers, he took out the pain medication from his pocket and took a couple of pills, before closing the lid and setting them beside him so that he could take them when he needed to.
"I'm glad that she's safe," he murmured, "I'm trying to call Maria. She didn't turn up. Either she's been compromised or she's betrayed me and I don't know which one is better. Her son did not appear either, which makes me feel like she's probably been taken down. I don't know."
He dialled the number again and listened to the ringtone, only hanging up when the voicemail started up again. Damn it. Nik gritted his teeth and looked back to Kaden, studying him momentarily before half-closing his eyes and resting his head on the back of the couch. It hurt, but he could feel the start of the medication kicking in already. "I need to be woken up every two hours. I hit my head when I fell."

Kaden watched him quietly a moment as he processed what he had been told and the fact that Niko had almost died and he would have just been sitting around on his arse rather than being there to help. The wound would need time to heal before Niko tried to do anything and judging by the pain medication he was in a great deal of pain. He was thoughtful a moment as he chewed the inside of his lip and thought to himself. Niko had nearly died and the thought sent unwelcome chills down his spine.
"She and her son didn't show?" Kaden repeated with a frown and he ran a hand over his mouth. That couldn't be anything good. "How far away does she live?" He asked with the intent of checking her house out and hoping to at least give Niko closure about her condition.
"Okay." He replied with a short nod and pulled out his phone to set several alarms until morning. He was still worried about Niko, but the guy was tough as h*ll and had been through worse. He just didn't want him to have to lose Maria.

Nik flicked his gaze over Kaden again and exhaled sharply, turning his gaze away and looking at the small window. He could already see the sun beginning to rise, which was irritating. He'd left when it was dark and had only just come back...in some sort of way, he felt awful for it. It was like the world was just trying to drag him through hell and back just to be happy, and that was irritating. Staying out all night had not been his intention, and he hadn't even brought food - honestly, he felt like he was a mess.
"Mmm," he replied softly, "I'm giving her until the afternoon to respond to me. If she doesn't, I'll send someone to her house. She only lives twenty minutes or so away, but if she had a family emergency, I guess I could understand. That said, she would've told me..."
He grimaced as he trailed off, shaking his head and hissing softly as he did so. Already, he'd lost Cas and Finn - he wasn't sure what he would do if he lost Maria. Oh! He pulled out his phone again and dialled a number quickly, holding the phone to his ear. He'd completely forgotten that Maria's house phone was something he could dial.
The voice, however, was not Maria's, but her youngest son's.
"Hey, mijo," he sighed softly, "is mama around?"
"No," replied the kid, "she went out last night with Gabe and didn't come back."
"Hm," Nik flicked his gaze to Kaden and gestured for him to come closer, just to have some sort of human contact. He wasn't sure why he wanted it, but he'd had a long, hard night and it was nice to not be alone. "Who's looking after you, then?"
"Dominic is," something about the tone of the child caused Nik to narrow his eyes, "she's bein' all weird and I gotta go."
Before Nik could reply, the kid hung up and he groaned. "Okay," he said quietly, "Maria isn't home and neither is her son and I'll still leave it until the afternoon. I need sleep and stuff and her kids are being taken care of," he didn't seem so sure about that.

Kaden tried to listen to the conversation, it was harder to pick up on Niko's uncertainty when he didn't know who Dominic was and why she was being strange, but he was worried about Maria. He had only briefly gotten the chance to know her, but he liked her a lot and she had children.
At Niko's gesture he pushed off from where he had been leaning and joined him on the couch, he sat close enough for their legs to touch and watched him as he finished up the phone call. "You think maybe someone's got them hostage, not dead?" He asked hopefully. It wasn't unusual for something like that to occur, but it seemed that whoever was running the show right now didn't care much for the gang's cooperation, they just wanted them gone.
"I could go if you'd like?" Kaden offered softly his grey eyes fixed on Niko. He had gotten more sleep than Niko and he could tell his mind hadn't been eased much by the phone call. He didn't want him to have to sit and wonder, plus his own health needed to be taken care of and Kaden was pretty sure he needed more sleep than a few hours worth.

In an absent movement, Nik hooked one of his legs around Kaden and smiled faintly, though it was not a kind one. It was bitter, one of someone who was tired of all of this. He closed his eyes and pressed his nose to the back of the couch, inhaling as deeply as he could before giving a quiet whine and trying his best to relax.
"I don't know. I'll be contacted in the event of a hostage situation," he commented idly, "same with if they're dead. I haven't been contacted, so I can only assume that they're in hiding. Dominic has the kids but apparently she's being weird, so I'll just send someone over to take over for Dom later."
He reached out absently to try to tug Kaden closer, still craving...whatever it was. He didn't know if he liked it, but he knew that he enjoyed the attention. He always had enjoyed being paid attention to. "It's okay," he mused softly, "you need to be kept safe, and besides," he gestured vaguely to himself, "I'm useless on my own at the moment."

Kaden wasn't sure if he agreed that he needed to be kept safe. If anything Niko did. His gang was gone and the remaining members in jail,mHis territory seized and there wasn't much left that made him useful other than his own personal skills but even than he didn't know if he was significant enough to need to stay alive by Niko's crew. He wasn't sure if he would be killed on sight anyway by whoever was doing this, injured sure, but if it was Gina she would leave him alive just to mess with him like the sadist she was. Either way, he was pretty sure Niko's life was much more important these days.
"Is there any way Maria can contact you if she is in hiding?" Kaden asked and allows himself to be pulled closer. He stretched an arm behind Niko's body to rest above the couch. Proximity and touch was still something Kaden had a little bit of trouble getting used to, but it came easier with Nik and he was much less reluctant.
He wasn't sure if Niko's wound needed to be looked after or changed frequently, he wasn't great with medical situations, but he knew the basics of taking care of a wound so he would help him how he could. Right now he needed sleep and recovery if he wanted to be back on his feet quickly.

Niko hummed lightly as he considered it, settling down until he was vaguely comfortable and keeping his eyes closed. He tilted his head back and listened to the sounds of the city awakening beyond his apartment, the thin window doing little to keep out any of the sound. After a moment, he opened one eye to look up at the other man.
"She won't contact my personal phone," he mused softly, absently toying with the hem of his own shirt. It, too, was bloodied and had a hole in it where the bullet had torn through. Honestly, though? He was too lazy to change and the pain was too much, though quickly being numbed. "She might email me, but that's risky. It's more likely that she'll use a payphone to contact my work phone, which is..."
He blinked open both eyes and lifted his head sleepily, looking around.
"It's somewhere here. I know it's in its stand, so it's definitely connected," he huffed. "She'll be okay."

I'm exhausted ugh)
"Okay." Kaden replied, he was still uncertain, but he figured Niko knew what she would do and if he heard the shrill ring of a work phone then he would be able to find it even if Niko wasn't sure where it was at that exact moment.
"Well then you need to rest." Kaden sighed a bit and pulled him closer gently. He didn't like the thought that if the bullet had been slightly to the side he could have died and where would Kaden have been? Here on this d*mn couch not doing a thing to prevent it. He wasn't going to let that happen again. They needed to figure this out and soon or Niko's gang would go just as quickly as Kaden's had.

( same honestly )
Niko hesitated for a moment with his eyebrows pulled down, before he sighed softly and settled down. He looked down briefly to his shirt and scowled thoughtfully, shaking his head as he tried to relax to the best of his abilities. Absently, one hand caught Kaden's arm and he curled his fingers gently over it.
"Okay," he said quietly, "I'm sorry I didn't find anything out."
His eyes, however, were already closed, and he was dozing within a few moments.

(I'm glad we are both dead inside lol)
Kaden shook his head slightly, a small frown touched his lips. "Don't be." He replied softly since Niko seems to be drifting away already. He didn't want him feeling guilty for something like that, it wasn't his fault his contacts were compromised. In a way he had found something out, whoever had done this was a friend of his old boss since he had said she kept her contacts very secretive. It wouldn't be Gina, she wasn't friends with Alvarez.
He glanced down at Niko once his breathe changed to shallower and slower, signifying that he was asleep. Kaden was going to protect this narcissistic jerk no matter what since he obviously wasn't working hard enough to take care of himself.
After two hours he knew he needed to wake Niko. He felt bad, but concussions weren't an injury to ignore. He nudged him gently. "Niko." He murmured. "It's been two hours man."

( dead inside 4 lyf )
His dreams were all blurry, vague shapes and voices and when he was woken up, Niko was almost relieved. He blinked sleepily at Kaden and reached out absently, brushed one hand through the other man's hair before dropping his arm and hissing in pain, shifting his weight slightly.
"Mm," he said, "I'm awake. And alive."
Niko rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and frowned thoughtfully, tilting his head back and sighed slowly and softly, head tilted back and eyes narrowed. "What time is it?"

Kaden smiled very slightly when Niko reached up to run his fingers through the portion of his hair that was longer on his forehead. He wondered if he needed something more for the pain or if he could manage. Personally he often tried to tough it out, he feared becoming reliant on any drug the way his mother was so when he was shot or stabbed he refused any form of pain relief.
"Those are both good things." Kaden hummed and glanced at his watched a moment. "Around noon."

( yo its okay )
Niko gave a low hum and glanced over at the clock before he pushed himself into a sitting position. It hurt a lot and he tried not to show it, but he did breathe a little heavier once he was sitting upright (though he had to admit, the heavy breathing wasn't doing him many favours). He took a moment to adjust to the new pain and half-closed his eyes.
"Okay," he breathed out once he could, "thank you. Do you want me to order some food or something?"

(Hi I'm sorry I have been awful about being around, a lots been going on, but how are you doing?)
Kaden watched Niko sit up slowly. It was a guarded movement, and one that told Kaden he was in a good deal of pain that he was attempting to conceal. He kept his gaze trained on Niko as his heavy breathing slowed slightly, but he was still aware that the other man was hiding how hurt he really was, the bullet did some damage and Nik was feeling it. Kaden wasn't sure how to help ease his pain, his solution was whiskey which wasn't always beneficial, but he didn't know Niko's way of coping.
"No, that's alright, thanks though." He hesitated before inching closer. "Is there anything I can do to help? Do you have an idea of who did this?" He asked. Personally he had his guess. Diablo, the bastard seemed to find every way he could hurt Niko. But he had been confident none of his contacts were known, and Gina also seemed suspicious. Currently, it felt like everyone was after them and they were just grasping at shadows, the answers were still in the dark.
