"Lemonade sounds great." Patience smiled, setting her racket down by the others and going to the other girls. Her sandals were scuffed due to the minimal running that the game had required, and the heat and humidity was making her hair stick to her neck, which she thought was gross and ran her hands through the bottom a bit to fluff it out again. The Selected girl waited for her glass then took it gratefully, enjoying the cool feel against her warm skin, and it tasted amazing; refreshing and sweet.
Andrew watched the maid work, flicking his ever-persistent hair out of his eyes. Once she returned from the bathroom, he pushed himself to an upright position. "We can see the gardens from here... Wanna spy on the Prince?" He asked, eyebrow raised mischievously. The guard doubted that the maid would agree; she seemed to be all work at the moment, yet it would be fun to suggest what he guessed would be an outrageous thing in her mind.

Augustus smiled and picked up two glasses of lemonade. "I wish I had more hands," he told the girls. He handed one glass to Kryslyn, since she has spoken first after all, and the other to Sierra. He turned back and grabbed two more for Lily and Cordelia as well. He pretended not to notice Cordelia fanning herself. "I did as well," he told Lily. "Had you ever played before?"

Loretta frowned at him, pursing her lips. "Do you often spy on your prince, Officer Scott? I doubt he would appreciate that. No, I don't want to spy on him," she finished, huffing in exasperation. She made her way into the closet next, and reappeared a moment later hauling a sack of laundry. Lucky me, getting to be the one to lug around the royal, dirty underwear, she thought, wrinkling her nose.

"Well, it is a matter of safety, of course." Andrew couldn't help but smirk at her expected reaction. "Come now, Loretta, it would be a tragedy if something were to happen and I couldn't witness because I wasn't spy- I mean, observing." The guard rolled his shoulders, glancing around. "Can I help with anything?" He asked.

Lily smiled as she took the glass of lemonade. "Yes I have. My mother and I used to play sometimes before I was selected." She blushed a bit, realizing that she was quite close to Augustus, and while around all the other girls as well. She took a flustered step backwards, her foot slipping out of her loose sandal and causing her to trip, unable to catch herself and falling back.

haha Andy and Loretta's conversation is adorable ~
Cordelia laughed politely at the prince’s joke--pseudo joke? She took her glass with a gracious “thank you” and took a tentative sip from the glass. As expected of the palace, it tasted delicious, not at all watery, but perhaps her perception was skewed by her thirst. Everything tastes better when you’re thirsty.
She glanced over at the other girls, wondering if should should try and make small talk. At this point, she was ready to call it a day and retire to her room, but of course that wasn’t up to her.
When Lily slipped back--COrdelia stood next to her--she blinked in surprise and gripped her glass tighter. She made a movement to help the other girl, but wasn’t exactly sure how to help. Not in the proper position to catch her, she ended up just exclaiming “Lily!”

Loretta rolled her eyes as Andrew continued to drone on. “I hope you know I’m going to remember this conversation the next time the tabloids print a suspiciously private story about Prince Andrew’s life,” she told him. She knelt and started rolling the laundry and towels all up into the sheets. She sighed again and fixed him with her best Do You Earn A Commission On Being Annoying? stare. “I don’t know, Andrew, can you help?” She stood again, hauling the oversized lump of fabric with her. “So far, it seems you mostly spy and crack ‘jokes.’” She would have done air quotes if her hands hadn’t been full. “You can open the door for me,” she instructed.
~~~~~~~~
Everything except, perhaps, hot chili peppers, Cordelia dearest. Haha!
(Hmm. Normally I'd say it's unrealistic for somebody to think and act fast enough to catch her, but since this is fiction, why not? Ha ha.)
Augustus nodded and was forming an answer when Lily moved back...and back...and down? "Whoa!" Augustus lurched to catch the falling girl. To his eternal amazement and pride, he did, managing to sling one arm around her back before she could hit the ground or the table behind her. Unfortunately, the quick movement also prompted him to spill the entire contents of his glass of lemonade all down her front. He only had a second to gloat inwardly over his quick reflexes before he noticed the stain. "Oh, Lily, I'm sorry," he said, hauling her back to her feet. "Are you all right?" He hoped he hadn't embarrassed her too badly. Nobody wanted to wear lemonade, even if the Prince himself had been drinking it only a moment before. He glanced at Cordelia and Patience, who wwere still nearby and witness to the whole thing. What would they think of his spilling incident? Oh, or would they be impressed with how quickly he had come to the aid of a damsel in distress. Not now, Augustus, the poor girl is soaked.
Lily looked at him with a grateful expression, "a little spilled lemonade is better than an injury from falling." She smiled lightly, trying to ignore the cold feeling of the lemonade soaking the front of her dress. "Thank you for catching me Augustus." She blushed, realizing that she'd spoken in an informal manner when addressing him only by his first name.
Augustus raised an eyebrow slightly. "You're welcome, Lady Lily. Why don't you get cleaned up?" he suggested, letting her go. Lowering his voice, he added, "In return for spilling lemonade on your dress, why don't I stop by your room later this evening? For a date?"
Lily blushed lightly, "I would enjoy that." She smiled, glancing up at him through her eyelashes. She quickly curtsied and then turned to go change quickly and clean herself up. She hurried back to her room and looked around before changing out of her lavender dress and into a pale blue colored dress instead. She wiped the sticky lemonade off of her chest and shoulders with a damp towel and dried it before slipping into the pale blue dress and fixing her makeup. She then returned to the rest of the group, looking better than she had earlier.
Patience watched the incident with a raised eyebrow, huffing quietly to herself as she hear Augustus offer Lily a date. The Selected girl simply set her lemonade down that she had halfway finished off. She didn't mean any bad feeling towards Lily; she just had a, what someone could only call, competitive nature. And that's what this whole ordeal was her to more than anything else, a competition for her to win for her family. Tucking her hair behind her ear Patience glanced around, wondering if she should approach the Prince.
"Well excuse me," Andrew pushed open the door for the maid anyway, he was actually quite enjoying this. "But I'll have you know that I've been the highlight of your afternoon, and I think you actually enjoy having me around." The guard gently closed it after Loretta had walked out and then trailed behind her, almost like a puppy annoying an older dog. "Plus, I think I'm quite good and spying and joking. One of those is my job after all."
Hmm. Kryslyn watched the ordeal, drinking her lemonade, arms crossed. She did feel bad for Lily--falling over and having things spilled on you wasn't fun--but she could have felt worse, especially since the dress was the castle's and they had a whole rainbow of them to use. Hmm, she thought again as Augustus asked Lily for a date. It seemed the girl had really gotten her hooks in with the prince.
"Must have made a good first impression," Kryslyn mused to herself, downing the last of her glass.
we can file lightning-fast reflexes under 'roleplay logic' along with kitten genetics haha
Cordelia had winced in anticipation of the loud ‘clash/bang’ that would have been Lily colliding with the table. Luckily, no such noise sounded as the other girl was caught just before she could hit the table. Astounded by the prince’s quick action, she wanted to clap, but alas, the glass in her hand prevented her from doing so. She felt bad for the other girl, sure. Her dress had been ruined, but perhaps being caught by the crown prince made up for it? Sipping from her glass again, Cordelia angled herself away from the two, not wanting to intrude on their moment. She glanced around the scene, looking for something to turn her attention to if anyone asked. Maybe those kittens were still around?
Sierra covered her mouth and turned slightly away- tripping! That was smart of Lily, tripping to get a date with the prince. Sierra wouldn't have thought of it, at least not so soon. Recovering quickly, she turned back and took sip from her lemonade. "Delicious," She agreed, though it was slightly too sugary for her tastes- needed more lemon. "I'd trip over myself for this lemonade too," She joked, though immediately thought that it might be considered insensitive.
Patience giggled, turning to Sierra with a smile. "Me too." She agreed, then glanced over to the Prince. "And a date with the Prince... You can pour a whole bucket of lemonade over me!" The Selected girl joked, taking a sip of her own glass. She had always been a sweet tooth, and this was perfect. "Mmm... So... what do you think of the castle?" Patience asked, flicking her slowly poofing hair away from her eyes.
(Poor Lily. Wasn't trying to trip, just flustered around the Prince with every other girl there. Now they're going to think badly of her just cause she got a date with the Prince.)
Augustus straightened his shirt while Lily ran off, exchanging his now-empty glass for a new one. He chuckled quietly at Sierra's joke. His cheeks reddened slightly as he listened to her exchange with Patience, though. Kryslyn didn't look too happy either, he noted after glancing at her. Great, that's really great, Augustus. You aren't even through day one and you've already started your own personal lynch mob. "I only thought a date might...compensate for spilling the entire contents of my glass all over her," he felt compelled to explain himself. Though he felt uncertain, his voice was still sure and unwavering, as always. Perhaps he had overcompensated? He decided it wouldn't be wise to ask them. He needed to appear confident in his decisions, suave, smooth. ...I hate it when I can hear Andy laughing at me from a distance, he thought sourly. Still, perhaps he should ask another girl on a date tonight as well? Then again, maybe that would only make her feel like a second choice, a rebound. No, he'd better wait awhile. He shifted on his feet uneasily. "But if any of you ever feel like falling, especially for me," he tried for a joke, "a little advance warning might be nice, so we can avoid any future spill incidents."
Lily returned when he was joking and blushed brightly, knowing he joked about her incident. She shuffled away towards the back of the crowd, not wanting to be seen blushing so much now.
Patience chuckled. "You don't need to explain yourself to us, Your Highness." She nodded in his direction, face friendly, although all she could think of was, Why would a Prince be apologizing to a bunch of commoners?. She glanced around and flicked her hair out of her face... again. I really need to tell my maids that I'm fine with my french braid. She thought before turning back to Sierra to hear her answer.
(Ahh I want to hug Lily x3 HUGS FOR LILY!)
"You should really let people tell you whether or not they enjoy your company, before you put words in their mouths," Loretta told Andrew. She held her head Hugh as she shouldered her way through the door to the servants' staircase. Maybe that would shake him off. She smirked at his last comment. "Oh, I heard a rumor that they had hired a clown! Congratulations, your parents must be so proud."
Sierra laughed at Patience's lemonade comment. She turned around to look at the palace, humming thoughtfully. "Well, its definitely a lot more extravagant than where I grew up," She said appreciatively. It was like a castle out of a fairy tale, really, and Sierra still felt like Cinderella- but its not as if where she came from was bad. In fact, the mountains were more beautiful than the palace, and her own home was just good in its own way.
Cordelia turned her attention back to the group, but missed what the prince had said as she saw Lily scuttling to the back of the crowd, next to her. “Welcome back,” she greeted the other girl with a smile. She was going to ask her how she felt, but based on her blushing face she guessed she probably didn’t want to talk about it. “Oh, I love your dress,” was what she said instead.
Kryslyn cocked her head as Augustus apologized. He must think we're angry, she thought to herself, one finger tracing the rim of the glass. Contrary to whatever message her face must have--she supposed she could've looked friendlier--she was less jealous or angry and more . . . perplexed. She would've expected something more than a simple trip to merit a date.
She drifted off back toward where the kittens were, regretting not putting her glass down back where the tray was. It would be hard playing with a kitten while holding a glass in one hand. She set it on the picnic blanket and plucked Eve up from where she was tussling with Fable.
"You know better than that, Eve," she admonished, running her fingers through the little cat's fur. Eve snuffled and relaxed, letting herself be pet. Kryslyn giggled and buried her nose in the kitten's fluff.
(Kryslyn is so me at any social event . . . totally ditch everyone else to go off on your own)
(Well, sure, especially if there are kittens! Ha ha! I'd be with Kryslyn too! ) (Anyway, hi, guys! I'm thinking about starting all the actual dates this weekend. I'll just multiply Augustus so we can do more than one at once. What do you all think?) Clearly, he was only making a bigger mess of things here. Maybe he really didn't know how to interact with women... No, don't even start. I am the Prince of Illea. I am more than perfectly capable of handling a dozen young ladies. But since the perfectly capable Prince of Illea didn't feel like digging an even deeper hole for himself, he decided to maybe move on, look for someone else to talk to, someone who wasn't fixated on the whole Lily-Lemonade-Slip-Up. He glanced around desperately, trying to ignore the uncomfortable feeling in his stomach.
That sounds great Holly ~
Glad the other girl seemed more at ease, Cordelia smiled at the compliment and sipped the last of her lemonade out of her glass. “Thank you. The maids have done a wonderful job with everyone’s dresses,” she commented, placing her glass down on a nearby table. “Though truthfully… I’m not used to such fancy dresses,” she admitted with a rueful smile.
