I'm cool with starting the dates now ~ Should we make starter posts of the girls waiting in their rooms?

(Dates sound cool, although if we're all doing them at the same time it might take away from the impact of Augustus offering one to Lily first if we wanted to head for drama and such down that road.)

(Starters actually would be helpful, Torr, thank you for the idea. They don't have to be long! Just something so I know who's available and wanting to rp.)
(Hmm, that's a good point, Miss Chocolate my friend. Well, we can continue the picnic while we do the dates, or the girls can grumble about it amongst themselves or even to Augustus later? Haha, poor guy, he was only trying to be nice! But I do love it when the drama is unplanned!)

Kryslyn stood staring at the array of accessories that had been provided for her, feeling rather annoyed that she had to change outfits yet again. So much for feminism and not objectifying if this whole ordeal was to be treated like one very long fashion show. Already her hair had been redone into a braid and she'd been instructed to pick a new outfit. Yes, dates were important--even if they didn't have as much of an impact as the very first--but she couldn't understand why the clothing from the picnic couldn't carry over into the evening.
She twisted her bracelet and studied the necklaces, all of which looked too elaborate for a simple evening. The simplest one she could find was a small blue pendant surrounded by silver on a silver chain, so she put it on grudgingly.
"I feel like a doll," she said out loud to the jewelry, before deciding that was enough finery and making her way out to where she would wait.
(I have no idea how I managed to spout out this much about jewelry
Anyway I kind of implied Lily's date had happened before this one, not sure how that matches up with continuity but it works out individually and so that whole thing has some impact
And what should I do with Aera? Haven't had a chance to use her yet, should she interact with another maid or something?)

(Yes, Tiger, if I could have starters from everyone, that would be great! Besides, it gives you all a chance to basically play dress up with your girls! Lol.)
Essie:
(Oh, sorry, I forgot about Aera! Yeah, why don't she and Loretta do something together? Hmm...they could be tailoring some clothes, or folding laundry, or polishing silver? Haha, I don't know.)
After the general dissatisfaction with the idea of Lily's getting a date "merely for tripping," Augustus had tried to soothe at least one girl's nerves by asking her for a date as well. He'd planned a private dinner with Lily, and had asked Kryslyn if she would like to meet him later in the evening. He found her near the stairs and smiled. "Good evening," he greeted. "I thought you might like to see our library," he offered, having remembered that her parents both worked in libraries. He had finally gotten around to reading the files...or at least the highlighted portions.

hey everyone ~
I have lil Max too if anyone would like to roleplay with him c:
Breathe in… breathe out… In an attempt to soothe her nerves, Cordelia practiced controlled breathing techniques while pacing around her room. Her maid had just finished twisting her hair into an elegant updo, and had left to allow the selected girl some privacy while she waited nervously for her impending doom. Passing by a mirror, the girl paused to briefly admire the dress her maid had put her in--the girl had told the maid she had complete faith in her judgement, and thus gave no input as to how she would be presented. Thankfully, her trust in the maid was rewarded as the maroon coloured dress fit like a glove, accentuating her figure like she had never seen before. Baffled by her reflection--it was like looking at a better version of yourself, and it was a bit unnerving--Cordelia turned away from the mirror in a huff, momentarily allowing her nerves to subside.

Torr:
(Of course! Poor little Max, I keep forgetting about him! Ha ha, sorry!)
Augustus was doing his best not to be nervous. He had done so many things in his life that might have made him nervous but that he had flown through without any trouble -- speeches, ceremonies, drafting laws, new languages. Unfortunately, this whole idea of dating somehow felt more foreign and intimidating to him than any of those other things, perhaps because he knew his pre-destined method of dating was unorthodox, perhaps because he knew the world was watching, waiting, laughing...
But in the end, he supposed it didn't matter. He would be happy. He would.
He knocked on Cordelia's door, dressed in a dark gray suit with a simple black tie. He'd been on a couple dates by now. Surely he could get through at least one calmly.

lol no worries! I imagine he's just baking cookies in the kitchen as everything plays out haha
A knock at the door sent another wave of nerves crashing down on the girl. Cordelia quickly clenched her fists and drew in a deep breath. Besides the obvious, how was the Prince any different from a regular person? Perhaps he felt nervous as well? Unlikely, but possible, she supposed. Banishing her nervousness within, she approached and drew the door open slowly. A mask of calm settled on the girl’s face as she fell into her much-rehearsed curtsy.
“Prince Augustus,” she greeted once she stood tall again. “It’s nice to see you.”

Lily stood in her mirror, she had to dress much nicer than she'd expected since she had a private dinner with Augustus. She smiled lightly, opting out of the jewelry provided by the castle and sticking with a gold locket she'd received from her dad and a pair a dangling gold earrings that her mother had given her. She smiled at her reflection, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. The young lady looked at her dress and smoothed it down lightly. She was dressed in an elegant black dress that had a pale silver sash over her shoulder and white detailing in the skirt of the dress. It had been the dress her maids had picked out for her. She moved gracefully to her closet and picked up a pair of short heeled silver sandals. When she finished, she sat at her desk and began writing a letter home while she waited for the Prince to retrieve her for their date.

(Not really, Skyshadow--they played badminton and everyone was pretty bad and met kittens. Augustus offered the first date to Lily after she tripped, but we're all doing individual dates now)
Kryslyn's eyes widened slightly, and she went to twist her bracelet out of habit.
"I would love to see your library," she replied, mind already spinning. She'd been in plenty of grand libraries--her parents encouraged the visitation of many--but she'd never been in the palace library, of course, and she was fairly sure it would be just as good as any other she'd seen, if not better. "That's--lovely. However did you know?"
(Ahhhh serious Beauty and the Beast vibes, all we need is a talking teapot) -- (I just jumped right in with Aera and Loretta, so here we go!)
Aera folded one of the shirts in the pile and set it aside.
"You met any of the girls?" She asked Loretta, reaching for another shirt. "They look nice, but you know how it is--looks can be deceiving, don't judge a book by its cover, all those things."

Cordelia had come off as quiet and shy to him, but the dress she wore tonight... Is very pretty. That's all, he thought. He smiled, impressed with the curtsy. "Nice to see you too, Cordelia. May I escort you?" he offered, holding out his arm for her to take.

No, it is a big deal, but it's Lily. Lily isn't scary at all, you shouldn't be nervous. You can do this. Be cool, be smooth. And smile, for heaven's sake. So Augustus smiled and knocked on the door.

Patience was sat in front of her mirror, staring at her reflection and took a deep breath. I can do this. It's just the Prince... hah! The Selected girl hardly recognized herself; she wore a deep red, almost maroon, in a dress that went to her feet. The skirt was flowy, but the torso hugged her sides with small jewels tracing delicate designs all over, up and tracking down the mesh-like sleeves that went right to her wrist. Her hair was twisted up into a bun, with a clip holding a few more jewels helping hold it in place, and hide the many bobby pins that were doing all the work. Her make up was more than she was used to, but she had to admit she liked how it made her look; powerful. With a sharp cat-eye and lipstick to match the dress, she felt powerful. Patience jumped at the knock at her door and stood quickly, slipping on her black heels and making her way to the door, opening it for the Prince.

I think the palace is fresh out of animate teapots, but I like the way you think! )
Augustus couldn't help a proud smile that tugged at the corners of his lips. "I remembered that you parents were both librarians. I figured it was a safe guess you enjoyed reading. I am relieved I was correct," he admitted, his eyes flicking to her face for a moment. "Otherwise this might have been a very slow evening for you. Tell me, what sort of books do you most enjoy?" He lifted a hand to her elbow to guide her around a corner, then quickly drew it back and put extra focus into walking with confidence. This overthinking nonsense would be the death of him.

Loretta shrugged, glancing up from the pile of socks she was slowly sorting into pairs. "I haven't really met them, no. You could probably give them the benefit of the doubt, though, Miss Debby Downer," she teased, tossing a rolled-up sock at Aera's head. She liked Aera. She was easy to get along with and didn't play games--and didn't intentionally get on her nerves like some particular tall and handsome palace workers....Wait, what? [ Had to. Excuse me. Ha ha.] She shook her head. "Why, is there somebody you think looks suspicious?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Lily jumped slightly when she heard the knock on the door. She bit her lip for a second as she walked over to the door. She tried to relax as she opened the door, "Good Evening Prince Augustus." She curtsied but the slight nervous stutter in her voice was evident. Augustus inclined his head, and smiled in an attempt to put her mind at ease. "Good evening, Lily. Are you ready?" he asked. It must be exhausting to be a woman, he thought, glancing at her gown and jewelry. All those dresses to wear in one day. I wonder how much time they spend just changing from one to the next. Maybe he ought to ask the queen someday. He'd always been more concerned with what she said and did than how she looked, though. Did it make him shallow for caring how the girls looked? No, everybody wanted a significant other who was attractive to them, right? Hm. He'd have to puzzle it out later.

Lily smiled, calming as he spoke to her as if they were both just two regular people and not like he was a Prince and she was some commoner who got the chance to get to know him and possibly marry him. The thought also occurred to her that she wasn't in this for the crown. I want to find love, and maybe Prince Augustus could be just that, love. She shook her head from her distracted thoughts. "Sorry Prince Augustus. Yes, I am ready." She smoothed down her dress with her hands gently and reached for the handle of her door to close it as she stepped out into the palace hallway. She couldn't help but notice how Augustus looked, He's so handsome this evening. Did he do this just for our date? No! Don't be absurd. He's going on date's with other girls tonight as well, not just you. She almost sighed out loud at the thought. Why does that bother me? Do I like him already? I mean he's nice and a little awkward but in a cute way. That thought made her smile. I guess I am falling for him already....
(I just realized the reference to her falling when he spilled the lemonade on her lol)

“You may,” Cordelia answered, trying her hardest to sound confident and sure of herself. If it was actually working… well, that remained a mystery.
As she gingerly took the arm of the prince, the nerves she had tried to tuck away fluttered persistently in the pit of her stomach. I mean, here she was, on the arm of the very handsome Prince of Illea. Wouldn’t that be any girl’s dream? Heaven knows it had been hers when she was young. Like many young girls, she had harboured a crush on the male for many years. More of an infatuation really--like on a celebrity. Completely unattainable yet you just couldn’t help yourself from being enamoured. She had eventually grown out of it--for the most part.
Once her inner monologue had quieted, she drew her gaze up from the ground and over to the prince, though she didn’t look directly at him--was that considered rude? She wasn’t completely sure, but she was too shy to attempt to make eye contact.

Kryslyn started slightly as she felt the prince took her elbow, but she focused on answering the question. "I enjoy fantasy," she started, tilting her head as she thought. It was a common thing she did--almost like she hoped the information she sought would fall out of her ear if she did so. "I find fiction more . . . captivating, I guess you could say, than nonfiction. Facts are well and interesting until they start being listed out, although some history is always interesting. Those are stories all on their own, you know what they say: truth is always stranger than fiction." She paused to smile and realized she'd been rambling. "What do you prefer?"-- "No one in particular," Aera replied, sticking her tongue out at the other girl. "The blond-haired one looks nice. And the brown-haired one. And the other brown-haired one." She winced. "I'm in it to watch them fall in love, not learn their names."
