(Ahhh I'm so sorry! I didn't know everyone was depending on me, I'm glad you could go on! Again, sorry)
Kryslyn squeaked as the--what was it? Cuttleshock? That sounded right. She'd just call it a cuttle--flew toward her team. The Prince Crushers, they'd been named. Personally, it seemed kind of mean to exclude the other girls--why not the Sierra-Patience-Augustus Crushers?--but now was definitely not the time to be thinking about that.
Thankfully, the cuttle didn't head for her, and she was free to just bounce on her toes and hope Cordelia or Ellie got it, as they were in much better positions.

(Sorry I disappeared!)
Patience was waiting at the edge of the court, watching the cuttleshock fly towards another girl. "We're gonna win!" She teased, twirling the racket in her hands before holding it steady, watching the cuttleshock.
Andy chuckled. "Sure, I'll help." He went to reach for one end of the sheets, lifting the mattress up and pulling it under one corner, then held it in place for her to do the other corner. "Did you hear that Augustus was going to try and play badminton with the girls? I feel like it would be entertaining to watch."

cuttleshock? chuttlesock? suttlechock? lol
Cordelia watched helplessly as the shuttlecock flew gracefully yet sinisterly through the air straight towards her. Although she was familiar with the game, she wasn’t necessarily good at it. Typically she stuck to hanging around the back of the court, occasionally hitting a few easy shots as they came her way, not going out of her way to hit the birdie, as they called it at home. Fortunately, with just a few short bounds forward she was able to hit the shuttlecock with an underhand swing that ricocheted the little device nice and high up back to the opposing team’s side. Thanking her quick reflexes, she spun her racket in one hand in triumph. The girl was feeling a little proud of herself. She had managed to hit the birdie, and get it back over the net, and sometimes you had to celebrate the little victories.

Sierra's eyes widened when she realized the thingy- the shuttlecock or whatever, there had to be a better name for it- was coming in her direction. Without really knowing the rules of conduct in badminton, she quickly took a few paces forward and swung her racket high, hitting the shuttlecock forcefully. It spiraled back over the net and she did a little dance in place, grinning at Augustus before resuming her position. Even if that was her only successful hit in the whole game- which it probably would be- she was proud that she'd managed to hit it on her first try in front of the prince.

"Nice hit!" Patience smiled, watching the shuttlecock sail over the net and towards the other girls. She secretly hoped that the thing wouldn't go in her direction... She was athletic, sure, but not for this game. Seeing that she was never good at tennis, she doubted that she would be any good at this game, even if she got the chance to 'prove herself'.

(Lol I know but Kryslyn is hopeless at it, you can't expect her to remember everything)
Kryslyn squeaked as the cuttle flew toward her. She made some kind of involuntary spasming motion with her hand and managed to hit it with her racket generally toward the other side. She wasn't sure if it would go over--if it would, it would be skimming barely over the net--but she was hopeful she wouldn't be the first one to forfeit a point in this game.
(Up to you if it goes over or not)

(Birdie! I knew there was another name for it! Figures that I would only remember the difficult one. Hahaha! Hey, Selectioners!) (Ashrain, we certainly have room for one more, if you'd like to join in!) Augustus was enjoying the game more than he had thought, considering they all looked like absolute fools. What sort of man played badminton on a first date, anyway? The same kind of man who has to take twelve women on a first date at once, that's who, he thought. "I've got this one!" he called, jumping forward to swing his racket squarely at the birdie and send it arching back over the net. The real question here may very well be what kind of man plays badminton at all. But it was the most entertaining game he could ask ladies in dresses and those deceivingly uncomfortable-looking shoes--ballet something or others?--to play, and besides, it was a chance to see how they all acted. Who was competitive and who wasn't, how they handled the mild embarrassment of missing a hit or playing a game they weren't familiar with, how they worked in groups. Everyone seemed to be enjoying herself for the most part at least. Sierra's victory dance had been amusing, as had Kryslyn's squeak--there was simply no other word to describe it--of surprise. And Patience was encouraging the other girls too, which surprised him for some reason.

hello hello! c:
The next couple plays had happened rather slowly, the birdie arching over the net several times during the rally until it was finally headed back her way. Cordelia simply watched her teammates make their plays, silently cheering them on as she didn’t want to interrupt their concentration. She watched the course of the birdie as it was sent in a perfect arch straight towards her side of the court. It would be an easy return, just a few leaps--three, if she calculated correctly--forward to meet the birdie with an overhand swing--if she timed it right, that is. With a plan in place, she took action and hopped forward. One, she counted each step in her head, two, thr-- The first two steps had gone smoothly, but as she took her third her foot slipped on the grass as it landed, breaking her momentum and causing her to throw her hands out to the side to help catch her balance. Thankfully, she managed to steady herself, narrowly avoiding a face full of dirt and a severely wounded pride. Her pride only suffered a mild injury from that embarrassing incident.
With her heart beating nearly out of her chest from the adrenaline, the birdie landed mockingly at her feet. Exhaling sadly, she turned to her teammates and smiled ruefully. “Sorry,” she apologized, feeling the weight of that miss heavily. With her racket, she flicked the birdie up and caught it in her hand before walking up to the net and offering it to the nearest player. “Nice rally,” she congratulated the other team’s player, offering them a disheartened smile.

Prince Augustus caught his breath, and was ready to catch Cordelia, but she had caught herself. He was relieved she hadn't fallen. It probably would have been embarrassing for her, and besides, he wouldn't like knowing one of the girls--his girls--had been hurt, especially during a game he had suggested.
He laughed it off and shook his head. "You were so close!" he encouraged. "Are you all right?" he asked a little more quietly when she stepped back from the net closer to where he was.

"I did not hear that," Loretta answered, focusing on the task in front of her, tugging and tucking the sheets until they were crisp and smooth. "I only knew there was a picnic." She glanced up at the guard trough long lashes as she reached for the blanket. "What, the prince's personal guard wasn't invited to play?"

Andy smirked. "Lil ole' Gussy knows that if I was there, all the ladies would be looking at is my amazing figure and face, and be absolutely head over heels for my charming personality, he would never have a chance!" The guard winked for effect, tucking the last corner under the mattress before stepping back and flexing joking. "I mean I know all the maids are already smitten!" (i low-key want these two to get together after a long haul of painful arguments and her 'hating' him x3)

Against her will, a laugh burst from Loretta's mouth at the ill-fitting nickname. Nobody without a death with would ever call Prince Augustus "Gussy." Except Andrew, it would seem.
She schooled her features back into the disapproving grimace and put a hand on her hip. "Is that so?" she asked after he was finished flexing. "You may want a new informant then, O Mighty One, because your current one seems to be feeding you false information. Straighten that out," she told him, pointing to the corner of the blanket nearest him before dragging the heavy, deep red and gold comforter onto the bed.
(Haha! Sounds like fun.)

"Yes of course, your Highness." Andrew grabbed the corner and flattened it, brushing this hand over it a few times. "However, I think that my sources are very correct." He teased, flicking his sandy-brown hair out of his eyes. "Because, you laughed. You never laugh, and I made you laugh, so there."

Kryslyn wasn't quite sure how to react as the other team lost a point--give them a sad smile? Cry out in excitement? Look grim, and not betray any offensive emotion? She settled for plastering a passive smile on and looking into the middle distance--not quite at anybody, so no one felt singled out. She was pretty sure it was her team's serve, now, but heaven knew she certainly wasn't going to be the one serving it. It definitely wouldn't go over if that was the case--she was pretty sure her body was physically unable to control the right muscles to successfully launch a cuttle over the net--so she tried to look invisible and hope someone else took the duty.
It wasn't so much the embarrassment, she mused as Augustus helped Cordelia up. No, they could all tell she was horrid--it was a fact she wasn't scared to make clear. It was simply the pressure of letting her team down, which absolutely couldn't happen--she didn't do well in important positions. Too many things could go wrong with that. She could fail horribly, resulting in millions of things gone wrong, or bring disgrace upon her family and work, or she could create a reputation that stuck--
Keep it together! She admonished herself silently, readying for the next serve. This was a badminton game, not a game of life and death. She could afford mistakes, but she definitely couldn't afford self-doubt. Confident. Calm. Collected.
Was that her mantra? Sure. Why not?

Ellie hadn't hit the birdie yet, but she wasn't disappointed about that. She was grinning ear to ear. She loved when others appeared to be having the time of their lives. It didn't matter what was going on in hers. She guessed she should step up and try to 'play'. She just didn't want to steal the good 'shot' from one of her teammates. "Oh, my turn!" She saw the birdie come towards her. She whacked that thing and it flew over the net, but she had been so focused on hitting it that it went straight for the prince and one of the girls who had originally hit it over the net. It smacked the prince at the top of the head. Ellie covered her mouth in a surprised and embarrassed laugh. Her cheeks blushed. "Oops! I'm sorry!" She said through her fingers. "Are you alright, Your Highness?" Her eyes were widened in shock, but still could not get the smile off her face. This game was supposed to be fun right? He couldn't possibly be mad at her, could he?

hey guys, what's up? c:
Stepping back from the net, Cordelia took a deep breath and stared blankly across to the other side of the playing field. “I’m okay. Thank you,” she replied quietly, turning her gaze down to her shoes as if they had betrayed her. The girl briefly flashed a ‘thank you’ look at the prince before turning to reposition herself appropriately. Feeling less enthused than she had prior, she took up the position near the back of the field.

"I do too laugh," Loretta argued, shooting a quick scowl his way for good measure. She finished fussing with the comforter and rearranging the pillows. "Maybe not at every little joke, but I laugh. Sometimes." She sounded less certain the longer she talked, so she decided to let it drop. She moved into the bathroom and changed the towels, throwing the old ones in a pile with the sheets. This silly guard might have time to laze about and tease people, but she had work to do.
~~~~~~~~~
Augustus smiled and whispered back a "you're welcome." He stepped back and lifted his eyes just in time to be hit it the head. It didn't hurt, but it did throw him off because he hadn't been expecting it. He jumped and blinked, the looked down at the shuttlecock by his feet and laughed, looking back at Ellie's face. "You're taking this 'prince crushing' idea a little seriously, I think!" he told her. "You might have waited until we were all ready!" Regardless of the rules, he batted the birdie back at Ellie with just gusto, though not so hard as to be aggressive.
The next two games went smoothly. Or at least, nobody else got hit in the head or fell over. None of them were exactly superb players, and the Prince's team did lose in the end. The competitive side of him wanted to be upset, but mostly he was happy that nobody had just let him win.
"Thank you for playing, ladies. Would anyone like some lemonade?" He was definitely warmer now than he had been when they had first come outside. He glanced at the girl's each in turn, eyebrows raised slightly in question.
"Yes, please," Kryslyn answered almost immediately. She flushed--being the first to answer usually wasn't something she did--but moved forward anyway, since she'd already gone ahead and asked for the lemonade. Maybe it was because she liked lemonade, or maybe she was tired from the game, or maybe she was finally getting braver? No. Selectively keeping your words in wasn't cowardly, it was . . . a well-thought-out move.
In the end she just accepted the lemonade as if she hadn't been contemplating her life choices a second before.
"Lemonade sounds heavenly right now," Sierra told the prince, wiping her brow. The game had been competitive, if not a bit funny, and Sierra hoped the nice makeup her maids had done wasn't going to melt right off. "Good game!" She called to the other team, walking up to the net to shake hands with each girl.
Lilianna smiled, "I'd love some lemonade." She was honestly feeling a bit parched and the lemonade sounded absolutely delicious. She found herself pausing as she approached to get lemonade, slightly distracted when she came closer to the prince, "Prince Augustus," She smiled. "Wonderful game. I enjoyed every moment."
Once the matches concluded, Cordelia placed the racket she had been using back in the pile then fell in line with the other girls. Although the game had been fun--a break from the general tension and uncertainty she had felt at the palace since she arrived--the girl was feeling a bit drained from the constant quick thinking and fast decisions.
In response to the question, she nodded once then turned her face away so she could fan it briefly with her hand. A cool glass of lemonade sounded delightful--the perfect beverage for a beautiful, sunny day.
