He definitely is (more so even than Seth, and that's saying something). xD Silas considered her answer for a moment. It wasn't unusual for new Riders to have difficulties accessing and using their magic, but Anya wasn't exactly "new." She may not have been at the House long, but she had been bonded with Corrik for, what, three years now? Most Riders were masters of simple magic by that point. (This is one of those stubborn moments of his, where he's too dense to realize him and his group of new Riders were exceptions to the rule. ;P) He was starting to believe Anya's "outburst" the other day truly was just a fluke. "Well that's disappointing," he said at last. "Magic in itself doesn't fit to one thing. Some Riders may be better at performing certain types of magic over others, but magic itself isn't picky. With the right amount of will, any Rider can make it do whatever they want. You should have no problems with this simple exercise. Perhaps it is your concentration, or lack thereof. Practice lifting that pebble until it is second nature to you. Do that for an hour, and then come find me in the library." (Did I also mention he's not a very good teacher? xD)

(Wow, I didn't think that was even possible. xD
Should she tell him about her magic type, or should it be demonstrated again? Which one would evoke a better reaction out of him? Because now that she knows this is a thing, it's bound to pop up whenever there's anyone angry near her.)
Anya debated on mentioning that she had discovered the form that seemed to be better at, but she held her tongue. Why? Who knows. He would find out about it sooner or later. Alia would no doubt ask how progress was going at some point, or Silas would eventually move on to exercises to figure out which style of magic she would prefer to use. At that point, he would need to know how her powers had manifested and work from there. Yet it still felt wrong to her to acknowledge she had been able to drain someone else's anger and use it to fuel her own emotions and words.
When he told her her task, the young woman blinked back surprise. So he was just going to leave her here until she was done? It was exactly what Alia had been doing, and she was a little taken aback that this was how their first lesson was going to go. But, she accepted it silently and nodded. "I will," she promised, trusting that he knew what he was doing.

As he spoke she listened intently, for a while she'd thought about dropping to their level and bringing her army to their castle and claiming it for Calea, but she'd chosen to take the higher road. Boy was it worth groveling that was happening now. If only it was the king himself.
The whole, whatever is needed thing definitely caught her attention. "I agree, sending my army to the steps of Peram would be, low of me and would fix nothing for anyone," Anaris said nodding in agreement. "I will give your king the money he needs, and allow full access to the Calean market where goods can be traded and profit can return to your lands. I am also willing to provide any men that you may need to protect yourselves for the time being as Calea is not the only kingdom who knows of Peram's struggles." The woman paused to adjust herself, "In return, your king will give us safe passage in your waters, and that you bring crops to the market as we are lacking fresh food in our market. My merchants will also be allowed safe passage for trading routes through your country. Untaxed in exchange for not making this agreement a loan. Any money given will belong to your kingdom as soon as it leaves my hands. Tell your king this is my deal." She smiled before standing from her chair, "Let him know, if he refuses, I'd be happy to send my men in another way." The queen turned reading to leave, "Thank you for your time, send a raven with the answer and I will gladly send everything." Anaris turned to Thayer and nodded for her to follow her. "I'll have some men show you the way out." She said was the doors opened and she made her way out of the room. Thank the gods that were over. The queen had left no time for argument or persuasion, it was her way or not at all.

"O-of course, Your Highness," Carvat had just enough time to reply before the Queen stood to leave. He rose to his feet and bowed deeply at the waste, watching as the two women made their way from the room. There was little time to promise that her requests would be discussed and an answer soon given, which left him a little surprised. Few times have meetings ended in such a way, and a part of him wondered if it was something he had done or just the situation in general that had made things so brief. Oh well, no time to ponder about that now. He had other things to attend to.
"Charming fellow," Thayer commented as soon as they were out in the hall and out of earshot of the visiting diplomat. She smirked slightly, following one step behind and to the right of Anaris. She only chose to speak of the meeting after ordering the guards who had been standing by the door to escort Carvat back to his rooms.

Thayer smiled in amusement at her statement. It could have been true for just about anyone, not just for men. "Still, I can't help but find it a little odd that the King of Peram was giving you so much freedom in your price for aid. For all he knew, he could have been practically giving his kingdom away if you wanted it. You could have told him to surrender the country to you. It might be a good way to gain attention, but it isn't really a good bargaining chip. Especially since the offer reeked of desperation and last ditch effort."
And then the serious topics were dropped as her shoulders had an arm thrown about them. The woman laughed as Quill was disrupted from his perch. He didn't fly off, however, so he had to tolerate it. "Of course, I did," Thayer boasted. "Four out of five times, at least. There is only so much of an advantage I have over the male soldiers in a wrestling match, but I made sure they didn't get too egotistical about it. I am sorry that I was late. I didn't mean to sleep in so long."

Her guard wasn't wrong, it was true the whole thing was a bit odd, but she'd heard plenty about how the kingdoms was struggling. It didn't mean she trusted them though. In all honesty, Anaris hadn't even thought about asking for the kingdom as a whole, she had thought about taking some land but not the whole kingdom. Would have been too much to manage she though, Calea was pretty large as it was. "Good, got to keep the men on their toes." She laughed a bit giving Thayer's arm a soft squeeze, "I understand, just include me next time." She let go of her friend's arms so that Quill wasn't so annoyed. "I'll make sure to personally wake you up next time." The queen yawned a bit, "Those meetings are so boring, what else do we have planned today? Anything fun?"

I say demonstration. Her saying it is one thing, and since it's a rare power, he'd be skeptical of her story. But actually seeing it... that's another matter. ;D I've actually been thinking about how to play that, and I think it should be a culmination of her getting irritated and angry, and him becoming impatient and angry, over a couple weeks of Silas leaving her alone to practice concentrating. One day he finally snaps and yells at her, she gets angry right back, and siphons his anger by accident while she's at it. And then it can go one of two ways: either she can gain control again by herself... or Seth can be happening by and he steps in to calm her down like he did the first time. They can have a brief moment where she forgets why she was mad at him, and then it all comes back creating awkwardness - and immense amusement for us. ;D What do you think? Silas nodded in return. "Good. Then I'll see you in an hour, and tomorrow at the start of our lesson we'll see if you've made progress." And with that, he turned and headed back toward the House. Gael pinned Anya and Corrik with his ebony stare for a long moment, then spread his wings and took to the sky with a mighty whoosh of air, leaving the pair alone to practice. ( This is where we can skip a couple weeks. c; )

(Trust me when I say I understand. Don't worry about it. ^^
Oh, you know Seth needs to be there to stop her. XD It'll just show Silas how much he's invested in her, and we need some awkward interactions for amusement XD
And okay!)
It had been two week since her instruction with Silas began, and Anya was feeling worse about her magic abilities everyday. It was a slow progress, slower than Silas apparently thought she should be taking to learn these spells. Wariness played a huge part in her lack of progress, yet she couldn't be the sole person faulted. Every day, Silas gave her a spell to practice before disappearing. There was no feedback on her efforts, no advice or corrections on her methods. There was no push needed to get over the fear of misusing the magic. It was the struggle with Alia all over again, only this time, she was getting it from both mentors. Despite herself, she couldn't help but feel a little frustrated. After all, she had been told Silas was one of the top Riders, so she had assumed he would be able to know a lot about magic and how to help her. However, he showed her just as much knowledge of it as Alia had done.
Sitting in one of the training fields, she was trying to focus on lifting a medium sized stone from the ground. She had at least graduated from pebbles to larger rocks, but even then, the quality of her spells were still the same. It lifted, but no higher than her chest from where she sat on the ground. No matter how hard she willed the stone to rise, it wouldn't listen to her silent commands.

Goodie. xD And you know what else this is good for? When Anya goes home, Seth should eventually be able to convince her to continue practicing magic, and he can prove his awesomeness once again by being a good magic teacher. xD Two whole weeks and nothing. No awesome display of magic, very little improvement in concentration, and not a whole lot of anything interesting. Despite making more progress than he would on his own with magic research, Silas was beginning to think getting involved with Anya was a waste of time.
Halfway through Anya's latest lesson, Silas decided to change things up. Instead of getting a head start on research, he returned to the field to watch Anya unobserved for several minutes. The rock she was lifting rose into the air with apparent ease, but the tension in her shoulders spoke of more concentration than what he considered necessary. With a great sigh, he strode forward with a shake of his head. "Alright, stop." He came to stand in front of her and put his hands on his hips. "Scale of one to ten: how much concentration did that take?" he demanded.

(And she'll be slightly irritated by it because she had wanted him to teach her to begin with, but instead she had to go through all this crap before he would. XD)
Startled by his sudden voice, Anya's attention snapped away from the stone and shifted to Silas. As she did so, the stone fell back to the earth as if it had never left it to begin with. He wasn't pleased, that much he could tell by his tone and stance. The woman swallowed slightly. "To lift it? Five. Trying to lift it higher? Maybe an eight," she admitted. There was no point in lying to him. He was her teacher, he should have known how she was struggling and tried to help her fix them. Yet he would rather return to his "office" and work on the research. That, at the very least, she had made more noticeable improvement in. While still not able to read at a fast pace, she was able to read and understand serval pages worth of information before her brain overloaded.

(Hehe, I'd expect nothing less from these two. XD And by then, she'll have learned that she can be a little irritated from time to time dealing with Seth.)
Anya flinched a bit at his outburst, but whatever guilt or embarrassment she might have been feeling was soon vanished by a spark of irritation. It settled in the pit of her stomach like a cold stone and she did her best to keep her voice mild. "I am trying as hard as I can," she responded, rising to her feet so she wasn't having to stare up at him as much as she had been. Suddenly, having Silas tower over her just wasn't something she wanted. He was still taller, but it was more tolerable. "I'm working with limited knowledge here, so you can't expect me to know how to control it all at once."

. "Clearly you're not, otherwise that -" Silas waved angrily at the rock "- would be easy by now." He paced several steps again before returning to add, "You're supposed to be interesting! Alia said you had this remarkable and rare power, but so far all I see is a wannabe Rider who can't get her head in the game!"
/ / /
Much as he would have liked to stay away forever, Seth could only avoid the House for so long. Luckily, he had been able to stay out of Anya's way during the two weeks he'd been returning regularly. The missions he'd started doing again helped too, though Genevieve was starting to get irritated because he kept finding excuses not to do her "challenging" missions. As far as Seth was concerned, Genevieve could go die in a hole.
He was sitting in a tree out by the training grounds, hoping to avoid the other Riders of the Order. Genevieve was too "busy" to figure out why he was refusing her missions, so she kept sending other members of the Order to do it for her. It seemed to Seth he was avoiding everyone these days, and it was starting to wear on him. Especially Anya. He wished he knew what her reception would be like if he approached her. Maybe then he -
Raised voices jolted him from his thoughts. At first he dismissed them as some unlucky couple having a lovers quarrel, but then he realized he recognized the voices. With a start, he sat up straight on his branch and turned in the direction the voices were coming from. He couldn't see anything through the trees. He hesitated a moment, then swung his legs over the side of the branch and dropped the twenty feet to the ground. He rolled to absorb the impact, then flowed seamlessly into a brisk walk.
Looked like his days of avoidance were over.

That did it for her. The cold pebble of irritation turned into anger. How dare he insult her like that when he wasn't even doing his own job! "Well maybe if you were here to actually teach me something, I might be making more progress!" she shouted at him, her hands forming into fists. "So far, all you've done is give me stupid drills, and then leave. What am I supposed to do? I hardly know how to control magic. It's a wonder I can even do this," she mimicked his gesture to the stone she had been lifting, "in the first place! No thanks to you, might I add. If I wanted to learn this way, I would have stayed with Alia. At least she muttered criticism every now and then! At least I'm trying, which is more than you're doing. High ranking Rider my a--! From what I've seen, you're not better than a barely graduated trainee."

Aye. xD
No, no. My first thought was that she had siphoned his anger, but at the same time, Silas is being such a jerk her anger is understandable, with or without extra anger. xD And I think it's a pretty good display of anger; I would have done/said almost the same thing in her situation. xD Silas was so startled by her outburst, his anger vanished. At least, he thought it was his surprise that made his irritation fade, but after he failed to get it back, he realized something else was afoot here. Perhaps Alia hadn't been exaggerating when she claimed Anya had a powerful and rare ability. There was only one way to know for sure. Silas laughed mockingly. "Oh that's rich. The cute little farm girl, calling me a - how did you put it? - a "barely graduated trainee"? That's adorable. Why don't you try coming up with an insult that's actually insulting?"
/ / /
It didn't take Seth long to cross the small patch of forest between him and the training area where the voices where coming from. He stopped when they came into view, still hidden beneath the trees. As he'd known, it was Silas and Anya. While coming closer, Seth had heard the last bit of their argument, and he couldn't help feeling his own spark of irritation as he heard how little she'd learned in the last several weeks because her mentors were idiots. Anya had immense power and potential, but with these dumbasses training her, she was unlikely to ever realize it.
Anya didn't seem to need his help right now, so Seth stayed hidden under the trees, watching and listening. It was kind of entertaining hearing her put Silas in his place, and he wondered if she would ever be confident enough in herself to do so with others, and without siphoning their anger first.

That's a good idea. ;D
OH MY GOSH, YES! GO ANYA!!!! BRING OUT THE FIRE NEXT! xD Astonished, Silas barely had the presence of mind to dive out of the way of the flying rock. He hit the ground on his stomach, his wide eyes on Anya. If he'd wanted to piss her off, he'd succeeded - brilliantly. And this just proved Anya did have powerful magic hidden within in. Question now was: How to get it out without getting killed in the process?
He got slowly to his feet. "Now that," he said, "is how easy it should always be to lift that rock. How much concentration would you say you used to do that?"
/ / /
Seth was pretty stunned too. Unlike Silas and Alia, Seth had never doubted Anya's potential; he had not, however, expected her to throw a rock at someone's head... even if that someone was Silas. Much as Seth would have loved to see that rock his him in the face, Seth knew Anya would regret such an action later. If she'd been upset before for siphoning his and Alia's anger and saying all those mean (yet true) things, her hurting Silas because of that anger would be so much worse. (Should we get the dragons involved???)

(She gonna be the Avatar before this is done. XD
It's high time we see a dragon fight. I know we've had some smaller cases in the past, but Corrik needs to prove himself too. XD And I'm not sure. If she can, then it should be highly dangerous considering that the sheer strength of a dragon's emotions might be far stronger than humans. Seth might tell by her anger increasing that she was siphoning Gael's anger, and that could be when he steps in, afraid of what might happen if she stretched her magic too far too quick.)
"Why should I?" Anya asked. "You've been doing a poor job teaching me anything these few weeks. You couldn't have cared less about what I was doing, or how my attempts were going. I don't see why now you get the right to assume authority over me when you were more than happy to ignore me before."
Even as she said this, there were new thoughts forming in her mind. They were Corrik's. Her dragon had left her not long after her lesson began, going to take the opportunity to hunt nearby. However, to reach a good spot to find food, he had to travel farther than their bond reached. Now, as he flew back towards the House, his mind was reaching out to hers once more. There was no hiding her current state from him, and the wave of concern, panic, and anger of his own infiltrated her mind. It was all she could do to push them aside. She didn't have time to explain everything to him.

YESSSSSS! xD
Oh, yes. I like that idea. ;D Now to implement it... Silas stood straighter, squared his shoulders, and forced his clenched hands to relax. He kept feeling like he should be angry, but every time he felt the emotion rise within him, it seemed to seep away again. He could feel it, but he could not stop it, and that just made him angrier. Yet he could not feel the emotion. It was an endless loop. "Damnit! What the hell are you doing to me, you worthless peasant? Whatever it is, cut it out. Before I make you."
Silas may have been unable to truly feel any anger, but that was not the case with Gael. He had been off doing his own thing until he sensed the danger to his Rider when Anya threw the rock at him, and had started the race to return to Silas's side. Now he arrived with a furious roar, and landed with a CRASH in the space between Anya and Silas. He lashed his tail and hissed. You're going to regret this day, little girl, he snarled into her thoughts.
/ / /
Gael's appearance had Seth shooting upright from his lounged position against a tree. His hands dropped to his sides, loose and ready, and he connected his mind to Stel's - just in case. Seth was fairly sure Gael wouldn't actually do anything to Anya, but he wasn't taking any chances. Gael was a ferocious beast, and a bully. Stel liked to fight because she always felt immense satisfaction when she came out on top, the underdog of every fight. Gael liked to fight because he enjoyed inflicting pain and fear.

(Her anger siphoning is the Avatar State. XD We accidentally created this, and I'm loving it. XD
Gladly. )
A spark of her own anger surged and melded with the magic at his insult. Before she knew it, fire had consumed her hands. She had taken a step towards Silas, about to dare him to try, despite not having much training in fighting still, when Gael landed. She turned her gaze to meet the dragon's and a rush of emotions flooded her. The woman sensed the anger from him, but it was different than Silas's. She hadn't been able to tell the difference between what was her feelings and what she was stealing. However, she knew exactly the moment she began drawing from Gael. She felt her lips draw up into a snarl of her own, as if she had any chance of intimidating him. "And what are you going to do?" she challenged, the fire in her hands growing stronger and body shaking. Simple anger morphing into rage.
It was this time when Corrik, who had been flying as fast as he could, landed on the field behind his Rider. Instantly, he was pushing himself between Anya and Gael, growling and ready to attack if the larger dragon made any move towards her. He didn't seem to care that there was little chance he would win. If it kept him away from his Rider, then he would do what he could until she snapped out of whatever held her.

Ditto. Especially since I just rewatched the whole Avatar series last week. xD
WOO HOO! GO ANYA! GO ANYA! xD I almost don't want to send Seth in there; I think we'd both rather watch Anya kick butt. xD Silas's eyes went wide at the sight of the fire engulfing her hands. Now that was not a beginners trick. Most Riders who tried got burned the first time, yet Anya was clearly unhurt and unafraid of the flames.
Unfortunately, Gael wasn't afraid of the flames either, nor Anya's runt of a dragon. When Corrik got between Anya and Gael, he lashed out, sudden and swift, and closed his jaws around Corrik's neck, right behind his head. He didn't bite down hard - yet - but he held on tightly enough to leave Corrik almost immobile while he swung around to press one clawed foot against Corrik's shoulder. Then, with a bit of effort, he shoved the smaller dragon to the ground and held him there with his bulk.
The second before Gael lashed out at Corrik, Seth moved. He knew what move Gael liked to employ, for he'd seen it in action a dozen times over the years, as Gael used it to bully other dragons into submission. Not only was seeing her dragon so easily pinned going to make Anya mad, he knew she was siphoning Gael's anger, and that could be dangerous. Unlike the humans she siphoned, dragons wouldn't just stop feeling the emotion. They may have been ancient creatures and incredibly intelligent, but a part of them was still an animal, and instinct fueled them as much as emotion. And one of the strongest instincts in a dragon was to protect their Rider.
When Gael bit Corrik, it brought him close to stepping on Anya. But when he swung around to pin the smaller dragon, he swept over where she was standing. At least, it was where she would have been standing if Seth hadn't reached her in time and shoved her into a portal dimension. It was an in and out trip, but somehow they ended up across the clearing when they emerged. "Are you alright?" he asked. He knew it was probably a moot point - she was probably still pissed off and would just yell at him - but he had to ask.

Corrik let out a roar of anger as he was twisted to the ground. It wasn't a good spot to be in, and he struggled to claw the bigger dragon. He was close enough to do so, and he tried with all his might to throw Gael off of him.
Furious, Anya sent the fire from her hands towards Gael, hoping to hit him in the face. The likely-hood of actually hurting him was slim, but if it distracted him enough to loosen his grip on Corrik, she'd take it. However, she didn't get a chance to see the results. As Gael stepped over her, she suddenly found herself away from the fray with Seth standing in front of her. When they stepped through his dimensional pocket, her bond with Corrik was broken momentarily, as well as her direct connect to the anger she was channeling. So there was a moment of pause as she was trying to figure out what was happening. Of course, she had plenty of anger in reserves, so she was still in an irrational state of mind. "Of course, I'm fine!" she spat/growled at him. "Get out of my way! I have to help Corrik."
