I've been thinking about this a bit lately, since I've been rereading TPB. I think there really is a similarity between the two, and I both of them have amazing character arcs that make their respective books so much better. Frostdawn's struggles with the truth about her mother, her responsibility to RiverClan and her finding her place is very good. I just wish they had shot a little higher. But she pretty much blows most other protagonists out of the water already. I'm looking forward to her dream section in Star, I think that could be one of the best parts of the arc. Fully agree! I authentically started believing in Frostdawn’s leadership just due to the sheer parallels between her rise and Firepaw’s, going from a naive young cat just doing her best to fit in and prove herself to a fully realized force of nature who feels both a tangible spiritual and mental fortitude. Her stand against Splashtail was genuinely moving, even when everyone other than a select few was firmly against her and thought she was foolish. Her entire presentation in Wind was phenomenal, she displayed real CONVICTION which the vast majority of recent POV protagonists lack, or at least lack for the majority of their arcs. I adore how it isn’t a sudden or forced change either, you can see her growth throughout the narrative, including the trials and tribulations she underwent. Of course more could’ve been done, they should’ve broken a few more boundaries imo considering how the arc has such a heavy focus placed on changing tradition and growing into a stronger future. However she is such a breath of fresh air, I really got the first arc magic back with her specifically. If one wish of mine could be granted it’s that she maintains some relevance into the upcoming arcs and they keep her immaculate characterization, she’s the picture-perfect new arc breakout personality they needed after relying on old, nostalgic ones as crutches for so long! Real.
The gradual strengthening of conviction is what was convincing me of Froststar so much because that's literally Firestar in the first arc. She's really one of the few protags who has it.
Also I don't know what I'm going to do if they just put Frostdawn back on the shelf. Like I could do without seeing Shadowsight and Rootspring all the time, but I just want more Frostdawn, thank you story team.

I wish novellas were still around, because a Frostdawn novella about rebuilding RiverClan with guidance from StormClan and visiting the Cats of the Park might really tie everything together nicely, sort of like an extended epilogue. Gonna have to take it into our own hands and begin the WC Forums Fanfiction Novella collection, because this sounds perfect and if I had more motivation, i would write this so fast

It would be incredible if she and Moonpaw have a relationship of some sort even!

Gonna have to take it into our own hands and begin the WC Forums Fanfiction Novella collection, because this sounds perfect and if I had more motivation, i would write this so fast Would honestly be so down for this if we actually do it! I can always create a good Thread on the writing part of the forums for something like that, and archive stuff people post. Like a group writing page! That would be a fun project, even if I might have trouble writing my own stuff due to my writer's block, but I'd be happy to see everyone's writing creativity! People can either post a link to their entire fanfiction Thread, or write oneshots right there on the Collection thread, that would be fun! I'll think about it for sure.

Here are some more specifics of Frostpaw's visions in chapter eighteen: Frostpaw's visions include a brown scrawny tom. Cats stuck in a storm and a mention of Emberstar. They then turn into Tigerstar and Leopardstar talking about how RiverClan and Shadowclan will be one. They fade to Reedwhisker swearing allegiance to the Kin.

It sounds like a decent closure to a decent arc. I have to say I really love Nightheart’s development as a character. He’s really come a long way from the moody apprentice and new warrior that started the series.

They then turn into Tigerstar and Leopardstar talking about how RiverClan and Shadowclan will be one. They fade to Reedwhisker swearing allegiance to the Kin. Can you give more of a detailed account of Frostpaw and Curlfeather interactions while Frostdawn is half dead?? thanks so much pixie Detailed account between Frostpaw and Curlfeather from chapter fifteen: - Frostpaw asks why Curlfeather betrayed her to which Curlfeather says she was trying to help her. As a Clan leader's daughter and as a medicine cat, she would have power. Frostpaw says she doesn't want power, but Curlfeather replies saying that power would have made her safe. Frostpaw retorts that she was safe.
- Frostpaw starts envisioning Splashtail and it causes her to flinch. Curlfeather tells her he cannot hurt her anymore. She tells her mother that he had tried to kill her and Curlfeather replies with that she knows, but he can't hurt her anymore, and tells Frostpaw to come with her.
- Curlfeather shows her what's currently going on at the RiverClan camp. Frostpaw asks her if she's going to die. Curlfeather says she hopes not.
- Frostpaw's visions turn into a burial. She asks Curlfeather who died to which Curlfeather says Berryheart. Frostpaw asks how and Curlfeather explains Splashtail ordered Owlnose to kill her. She then goes on to ask her mother if she was brought here for a purpose. She wants to know if there was something Curlfeather wanted to let her know. Curlfeather tells her that this is Frostpaw's world, not hers, and that she's only there because Frostpaw wanted her to be.
- She asks Curlfeather why she wanted to be leader. Curlfeather says she wanted RiverClan to be safe. "So you murdered Reedwhisker?" (pg. 228) Frostpaw retorts. Curlfeather says Splashtail murdered him, but Frostpaw points out it was her idea. Curlfeather goes onto say that nothing would've changed had Reedwhisker become leader. Frostpaw questions why anything had to change anyways. She says that RiverClan was great as it is and that Curlfeather is selfish, greedy, and power-hungry.
- Curlfeather claims that's not true. She says Mistystar for far too long let the Clans tell RiverClan what to do. Reedwhisker is the same. She says that if she lead RiverClan, it would've been stronger. Saying they could've led the Clans instead of following them. She continues on about how her plan would've worked had Splashtail not kill her and that he's the one to blame for the current mess.
- Frostpaw asks if killing Reedwhisker and tricking her into giving her clanmates false messages was okay. Curlfeather says it was the only way to make RiverClan strong. Frostpaw starts wailing, asking why RiverClan had to be strong. It was fine the way it was. She goes on saying that Curlfeather lied to her, that she's her mother and that she should've been able to trust her and that she believed her when Curlfeather told her she could share with StarClan.
- Curlfeather is confused because Frostpaw is a medicine cat and can in fact share with StarClan. Frostpaw says she can now, but it's too late, that the Clan was tricked into lies. Frostpaw keeps on with her earlier point on how Curlfeather deceived her into thinking she was special and that she was used. Curlfeather says she did it for her.
- Curlfeather reaffirms her point that if Splashtail hadn't done what he did, she'd be a leader who made the other Clans respect RiverClan. Frostpaw asks if she thinks StarClan would've given her the blessing of nine lives to which her mother says she woudn't have needed it. Frostpaw says StarClan is what makes warriors warriors and Curlfeather argues that it's the warrior code which leads Frostpaw into asking where in the code does it allow you to be able to kill your deputy and trick a clanmate into being a false medicine cat. Curlfeather states that she is connected to StarClan.
- Frostpaw asks her if she even understood what she had done. Curlfeather says she tried to make her Clan strong. Frostpaw is back onto saying that Curlfeather turned her into a liar and Splashtail into a murderer. She asks if she's even sorry because Splashtail had nearly murdered her. Curlfeather says she's not responsible for him which leads Frostpaw to ask if she feels any responsibility. Curlfeather replies with she's only responsible for wanting RiverClan stronger. And then she apologizes for things ending the way that they did and that she's sorry for trusting Splashtail and hurting Frostpaw. Frostpaw questions if she's sorry for murdering the deputy. Curlfeather goes on about how Splashtail was the one who did that, but that it doesn't matter, because Reedwhisker had to go for a better RiverClan.
- Frostpaw realizes her mother is fading back into the Dark Forest and is distraught, knowing that she's going to have to fix everything that had been destroyed.

Poor Sunbeam. I still don't care that Berryheart is dead. Good riddance. But it's sad seeing how sad Sunbeam is at her mothers death. I also feel really bad for Duskfur, given the fact that Curlfeather and Podlight are her kits. Yeah, Fognose is a big supporter of her brother it seems.
And... Splashtail's dead. Also, lol! You are certainly not going to StarClan. You will not be free from Curlfeather, sorry not sorry. Have fun in the DF. Poor Frostpaw, but at least she got to strike the killing blow.
Splashtail being killed and Fognose being exiled does make me wonder if the reason Havenpelt was given a second litter was to replace her first. Also, Breezeheart was exiled. Nightsky is officially the last of Icewing's kits in the Clan. I'm surprised Brackenpelt and Podlight are still there since they were also huge Splashtail supporters.
Again, poor Sunbeam. But at least Sparrowtail and Hollowspring got to go home. I don't think they ever wanted to be in RC in the first place.

That’s my Curlfeather! Only taking half of the accountability! I feel so bad for Frostdawn, yelling and begging her mother to believe the right thing, to no avail. Her insistence that it was Splashtail who murdered Reedwhisker and so she doesn’t have any responsibility is really interesting, especially given that Curlfeather had her claws in Splashtail and was whispering in his ear from a young age. It seems Curlfeather is still trying to manipulate Frost, or is maybe desperate for her to forgive her, or maybe has become detached? Curlfeather only apologizing for Frostdawn getting hurt and not her actual actions is a really nice touch. She’s so awful but so endearing. And it sucks that this only gives Frostdawn half closure, and this is likely the last time she’ll see her mother. At least she still has Icestar and Duskfur as grandmothers, and maybe Mothwing as a motherly-figure, given what we saw in chapter 22.

Mothwing makes a couple appearances throughout the chapter. Each one being her taking care of Frostpaw in some manner when Frostpaw stirs a bit in her coma. I like to think of it as a juxtaposition to Curlfeather. The narrative indirectly saying that Mothwing’s her real mother.
And I feel like this is more supported in chapter 22 with Mothwing making sure she’s alright on their way to the Moonpool.

Controversial take but I love Curlfeather and Frostdawn’s relationship. Like yeah Curlfeather is a bad mother but she genuinely loved her daughter, and we’ve never really had a multi-fauceted bond with so many complex layers like that. The mother characters are usually boiled down to ‘kind, supportive, motherly’ or ‘cruel, heartless’ with no in between. Meanwhile Curlfeather is firmly her own character with her own goals separate from yet tying back to her daughter. I love how clearly Curlfeather’s humanity comes through yet it does not change or justify her actions, and the book definitely doesn’t attempt to justify them either. It’s great how Frostdawn still loves her too even if she can never forgive her either, it’s painfully realistic to still harbor feelings for those you care about even if they deeply wronged you. Everything about it squishes my brain just right, these two can fit so much angst in em and I can’t wait to read the interaction for myself.

I hope They give Cherith the torch to write the conclusion of the next arc. Because Kate is practically penny-pinching deaths out here. Only 2? And both being antagonists?. Call me a sadist, but I’ thoroughly underwhelmed. Also think was missed opportunity that Splashtail didn’t kidnap Dovewing and Tigerstar’s kits to gain more leverage to make Shadowclan submit and fight more vigorously on his behalf, perhaps just me though.
Still looking forward to read it myself. Protagonists at least seen to still be going strong though. I don’t think Kate Cary or Cherith Baldry actually get to decide who lives or dies, though. Hmmm. Not when it comes to major characters, the protagonist’s etc. they are giving a general framework of how the story/plot is supposed to play out, and unless things have changed with the writing team, They still do have some discretion when it comes to their writing. And pretty sure killing off some the side characters in the process would be permitted. And Kate has always shied away from gorier scenes and bloodshed as opposed to Cherith’s he doesn’t have a personal problem with writing it. Who knows though.

Yeah, Curlfeather still thinks she did the right thing. Uh... at least Frostpaw gets to see her one more time... I guess.
Ooh, a quarter moon already? Frostpaw is still in her coma. At least the Firestar comments aren't bothering Nightheart anymore. And Lizardtail and Gorseclaw thinking about joining TC, with Poppyfrost mentioning how TC is currently overcrowded. Yes, yes it is. TC has 47 cats.
Mistpaw and Graypaw are back with apprentice names and are currently in SkC. Nightsky is in WC atm.
Riverstar! Also, Frostpaw doesn't even want to wake up.
TC really does not want Lizardtail and Gorseclaw. And now they are going home, back to RC.
Jayclaw! Also, Icewing is back! And the loudest singer, apparently. She is now going to become leader. Also, I still love the name Frostdawn. She's honored for her integrity, courage and determination. Yay, Frostdawn! Also, yay Whistlebreeze! This was her name in the back of my mind because it for some reason fit with the whistle prefix in the my personal opinion. She's also honored for her courage, but her other traits are honesty and kindness. And, on another note, are Icestar and Frostdawn going to bring meditation back to RC?
Icestar's nine lives are from Jayclaw, Reedwhisker, Harelight, Leopardstar, Mudfur, Willowshine, Riverstar, Crookedstar and Mistystar. I'm surprised that her kits and mate weren't here. Also, Stonefur! Yep, Owlnose is now deputy. Mistpool and Graysky are much better names than the one Splashtail gave them.
Sunbeam is expecting!

Emberstar? Code of the Clans Emberstar? That's the only one we know of.

Oh, just one last thing Pixie, is there any more mentions of Lightleap after she and Frostdawn tag team Splashtail? Or Blazefire?
