Rose led the way through the forest. Just as the moon rose above the horizon, she spoke. “We are going to a place I call StarClan’s Burrow. It’s where we will meet StarClan. But we will be underground.”

Moonblaze thought about this for a moment “We’re going underground to talk to StarClan? Wouldn’t being closer to the stars make more sense?”

“You’ll see.” She replied. “Your questions will be answered.” She stopped at a hole. “It’ll be dark, so keep your nose to my tail and keep moving straight.”

He blushed a little but nodded as he tapped her tail with his nose and followed as straight as he could.

It got darker and darker as they went deeper into the tunnel going underground when Moonblaze felt a light breeze from up ahead. He took a deep breath as his vision slowly faded, but he could still feel the breeze coming and wondered where it could be coming from as they were underground.

Soon they made it to a large cave with moss covering the walls. Above, a large hole expanded up to the surface, lighting up a small watering hole. He gasped as he looked around the cave. “Woah… Woah, what- what is all of this?”

“StarClan’s Burrow. When the moon is in the right place, the moss glows in its light, and that’s when we’re able to speak to StarClan.” Rose replied.

“Oh, Oh my gosh. We’ll wait until the moon comes, then.” He meowed.

“Yes. It may take a while, so we can take a break and rest now.” Rose replied.

“Ahh. Then yeah, we can… we can rest up and I’ll… try to prepare myself.” Moonblaze sighed.

“I should warn you. I don’t know what may happen… even my mother didn’t know. So this will be new for the both of us.” She meowed.

“I’m… I’m sure this will go well for us.” He replied.

Rose nodded, sitting down and waiting.

Moonblaze sat down, waiting for the moon as well.

After a while, the medicine cat stood up. “It’s time.” She meowed as the moon shone down through the hole in the cave. The moss began to glisten with its light.

“Oh!” Moonblaze mewed. “So do I stand where the moon is shining?”

“No. Place your nose against the moss and fall asleep.” Rose replied. “I will be there with you.”

He nodded to her and placed his nose against the glowing moss, hoping to fall asleep as he closed his eyes.

Rose waited until Moonblaze was asleep before laying beside him. When the two woke up, they found themselves in a clearing covered with fresh, sparkling dew.

Moonblaze groaned a bit as he slowly rose to his paws. “What… What in the-? Wh.. Where are we?”

“We are in StarClan.” Rose told him before her own eyes grew wide. “Mother…” A beautiful silver tabby walked into the clearing, stars in her pelt complimenting her eyes, one of which was blue like Snowy’s and the other was green like Rose’s. “Welcome.”

“W-woah, oh my stars! Rose and Snowy’s… mother? It’s… It’s an honour to meet you.” Moonblaze meowed.

“My name is Featherwing.” She replied kindly. “This may hurt, but only for a moment. We will get rid of your old life first… Moonblaze. So please… bear it.” Featherwing stepped forth, placing her nose upon his head.

“M-My old life? Wh-what are you…” He flinched as she placed her nose on his head as he felt a swift pain go through him, disappearing as swiftly as it came.

Featherwing backed up. “Now, we will grant you your nine lives as a leader. These will help you throughout the seasons to come.” She stepped forwards again. “I give you the gift of love. May love guide you to make the right decisions as I did when I gave my life for my kits.” The older molly gently licked his head, whispering in his ear. “Also… a certain she-cat is starting to have a crush on you back~”

“Nine lives… as a leader… okay.” Moonblaze meowed back. “W-wait… A she-cat is… wait- do you mean… Snowy?”

“Perhaps.” Featherwing winked and backed away as the life drained into him.

He blushed slightly, grunting as he felt the life of love draining into him, ensuring that his heart will lead him in the right direction.

Next, a little kit tottered over. “I’m Crystal! I’m the sister of that she-kit that Timber saved… they asked me to give you a life! Please bow your head…”

“Crystal… Okay… Okay, yes, my next life…” He knelt down and lowered his head for her.

“I give you the life of hope. Hope that your clan may thrive in the time to come and to give hope to your clan when they are in doubt. …Take care of my sister for me.” Crystal mewed, licking his head and backing away.

He let out another groan as he could feel the life of hope coursing through him now. “I… I will take care of your sister, no matter what.”

Just then, a large orange tabby with bright green eyes stepped forth. “I am Firestar. I was the leader of ThunderClan.”

“Leader of ThunderClan… It’s an honour to meet you, Firestar!” Moonblaze bowed down respectfully to him.

“I give you the life of Bravery, to stand through whatever trials await you. But be careful. Bravery can have its faults, as well.” Firestar gently licked his head and stepped back.

Moonblaze fell to his knees as he felt the life of bravery take hold in him. He rose slowly, ready for what would come next.

A silver tabby stepped forwards. “My name is Silverstream. I am an ancestor of Rose and Snowy’s. I give you the life of acceptance. May you accept what may happen now, and in the future.” She licked his head and backed away.

A new voice sounded in the clearing. “It’s been a long time, hasn’t it, Moonblaze?”

“Mistwhisper? It… It really is you! Oh, my stars!”

“I’m sure you know what I’m about to give you. I’ve trained you since you were but a little kit, but my final gift shall be this life. The life of strength. May your power and your skills grow as you keep working on not only yourself but your clan as well.” She licked his head gently as he gritted his teeth, accepting this new life.

Next was a brown she-cat with white spots. “I am Doewillow, here to present you with the life of patience. As a leader and as a mentor, you must have the determination and patience to see things through even if they don’t work out the first time.” She licked his head, draining the new life into him.

As Moonblaze recovered, a beautiful blue she-cat with eyes that reminded one of a frozen lake stepped up. “I am Bluestar. I give you the gift of wisdom, so you will know what is the right decision to make in a crisis.” She licked his head and backed up.

He felt the life of wisdom overwhelm his mind as he opened his mind. Even now, he knew this was the right way for him. He would do anything he could to lead his clan right.

Next, a ginger patched she-cat with a scarred face padded into the clearing, smiling softly. “I am Brightheart. I give you a life of kindness to use for all cats. Even those who may look a little different.” She gently kissed his head. Moonblaze lowered his head as he took in this new life of kindness and slowly raised his head back up, his heart feeling warmer as the life filled up his body.

One last cat stepped forwards into the clearing, an older she-cat with silvery fur. “Miststar is what they called me until my time was up… But I present one final gift for you… the most important life of all. A life of humility. Remember that you are not all-powerful, or more important than any other cat in these woods. You are a leader, but you must be humble to maintain support from your clan.” She gave Moonblaze one final lick on the forehead as he took a deep breath, feeling the life overwhelm him as he slowly opened his eyes. Now he had all the lives he needed to ensure he led his new clan well.

“From now on, you will be known as Moonstar, leader of Moonclan. Your medicine cat will be Rose. Roseclaw. Work together along with your deputy to ensure your clan will thrive for generations to come.” Featherwing meowed firmly. “Moonstar! Roseclaw! Moonstar! Roseclaw!” The cats chanted.

Moonstar nodded as he accepted his new name, his new title, his new destiny. “I shall. Roseclaw… you and your sister helped me start the clan to begin with. I will continue to work with you two and work with every other member of our clan. We won’t simply survive, we will flourish! Our MoonClan will be prosperous. No one will ever have to starve, and our supplies will never grow low.”

Featherwing stepped forth again. “Don’t forget to choose a deputy as soon as you return to your clan. We will be watching you.” The StarClan cats in the clearing began to fade before it too, dissolved in a swirl of moonlight.

Moonstar woke up slowly, stretching out with Roseclaw. “That… That really worked. At least I hope it did…”

“I’m sure it did.” Roseclaw replied. “Now let’s head back. Your camp must be waiting.”
