Zinna Heartbrook
Zinna knew that Amalareiks was reaching out with his aura to comfort her, and it somewhat worked - at least she had stopped crying now. But her cheeks were tear-stained, and her eyes were red and puffy.
"I'll probably just wander around for a little bit, maybe find someone to spar with" Zinna said, "But thank you" Zinna had always found Rex a little, well annoying and a little too calm in the face of danger, but now she could see the other side of him, the side that cared- more than she thought he had before anyways.
Zinna turned to exit the spire, but then she realized something. "Will there be anything that could have been left behind? You- you said it was a bloodbath. If you didn't find their bodies I'm guessing you won't find any trinkets either"[feel free to not answer that btw, we should probably get on with the entrance speech instead anyways]

|| Amalareiks Arlind || Eastern Spire / Dew -- Amalareiks could ease up a little now that Zinna's mood had stabilized some, straightening- not that he'd ever allow himself to slouch- and slipping his hands into the pockets of his dark jeans with casual grace. No classes were held the day after the entrance exam so students were free to wear their own clothes. He, like many, had donned the mourning blacks and grays that have quickly become common in many a Felblanc wardrobe. He'll never get accustomed to the occasion for them, however- it's why he injects a brighter quality into his next words. "I'll accompany you until you find someone to spar with. School policy~" It's not usually the kind of thing someone says with a smile, but his is muted at least.
No one is allowed to be alone directly after hearing devastating news. There were too many...incidents of students and staff alike acting rashly. Cora Scarton attacked a pair of cambions in a blind rage after losing her cicerone to one and similar stories aren't uncommon.
So Rex takes a few steps with Zinna, pausing when she does to couch his words. "We did, actually...They're about the only clues we have. Walk with me and I'll tell you what we found."

( No problem Raven! ^^
Actually, I am no longer in quite so much of a rush because I need to have my new characters done by the entrance ceremony and I've been busy lately ^^"
But this post can be where we end so that the timeskip can start. And Zinna's response can be summarized in a later post, if you'd like. If you guys would just give me a few moments of downtime-! I have an interview and work tomorrow but I'll try to get started on my characters maybe that night. I have quite a few to work on~ )

( snowheart1 One Cell will be Theron-Atlas-Clarissa, that way Clarissa and Theron could already be cellmates with Atlas being a new addition due to the dissolution of his team. We can say they dropped out because we're already going the death route for Zinna- Dew So Cell 50 would be Stella-Lilia-Kirin. I still need to make the Kirin for them but I know who their cicerone will be. Since Lilia is an Amber we can say her cell either died or partly dropped out too. Honestly having your cell die and being moved to a new one is something that would be really common but I understand if you don't want all of your characters in mourning lol We can say that they died a while ago so that it's not fresh! Also there's a new kiddo on the joining page! My calling card is that all of my boys have something wrong with them~ Except my new cicerone who is literally based on a Disney princess.... And dear Rex. He would be offended if I called him 'normal' but he's just a lad doing his best~ )

|| Sorachi Kišo || The Infirmary / Ravenshadow snowheart1 Dew -- The next day Sorachi woke bright and early as he usually did, but this time it wasn't due to his 'early bird' nature. There was some sort of commotion in the Infirmary as students and their visitors prepared for the day. He observed that there was an anticipatory charge in the air as the murmur of voices would swell and ebb like the tide. Healers in snowy robes rushed to and fro, seeing to the countless injured and hastily clearing those who could walk so that they could empty more beds.
Sitting on his own bundled in blankets that protected him from the morning chill, Sorachi noted that some familiar faces from the entrance exam were escorted out while others were told to stay. The fact that he only received a cursory checkup before being asked to remain in the room lent credence to Ryuzaki's words. He smiled into his raised knee so as to hide it from the forlorn would-be students who were ushered out. Presumably to be sent home.
The Oni was only just struggling to wake when a petite woman with soft golden eyes approached their beds with two floating trays. "Good morning! I've brought a snack~" Sorachi returned her bright smile with one of his own and expressed his gratitude when he accepted the trays. They were each laden with a bowl of fresh fruit, thin green porridge that smelled strongly of herbs, and a tall glass of water. Ryuzaki was lying on his back and glaring at the ceiling, so Sorachi placed his tray on the bedside table between them.
Although she gave the Oni a worried glance, the woman's gaze remained clear when she returned her attention to the onmyōji. She produced a stack of clothes from under one arm and placed them on the foot of his bed. "Here! Something to replace your tattered clothing for now. At 7am everyone will be summoned to the Great Hall, you need only follow the crowd, alright? Good luck!"
With a final smile and wave, she closes the curtains around their beds and flits away with light, nearly soundless steps. "Thank you!" Sora calls after her, bandaged arm dropping from when he returned her wave.
"Did you hear that Ryu?" He fairly beams, struggling to turn fully to face his friend while still sequestered in his blanket cocoon. "We'll be official students of Felblanc in just a few short hours!"
This succeeds in finally breaking the Oni from his early morning fugue. He practically shoots upright, wide auric gaze meeting Sora's as he matches his toothy grin. "Oh- you're right!" He leans over to extend his hand and Sorachi gives him an enthusiatic highfive, lacing their fingers together and giving a brief squeeze. "Today is the next step toward making our dream come true!" Sorachi cheers, sitting back and picking up his tray. "Hurry and eat so- hey, not that fast!"
Ryuzaki chokes on a hasty fourth spoonful of still steaming porridge, nearly dropping his tray with his violent coughs. The onmyōji sighs at the sudden realization that he'll have to mitigate the Oni's enthusiasm for the rest of the day.
[ The Great Hall ]
Like many of his negative predictions, the realization of that morning remains true. Ryuzaki is practically buzzing with excitement as they stream out of the Infirmary with a host of other students and hopefuls. The button-up he's borrowing is a little tight around his chest and shoulders, and all of the sharp, energetic movements he's making aren't helping. Two buttons had already popped off when Ryuzaki briefly blocked the file of disgruntled students to wave Miss Ada and Miss Onyx over. Sorachi digs the fingers of his uninjured hand into the Oni's sleeve as a way to keep him from pushing his way to the front, forcing the taller boy to match Sorachi's shorter stride.
Golden sparks crackle amongst loose aubergine hair when they enter the Great Hall for the first time, Sorachi pulling the Oni to the side when he halts to take it in. It's huge and looks almost exactly like the pictures of similar spaces he'd seen in history books featuring ancient western castles. Comprised mainly of the dark stones that make up the majority of Felblanc, the Great Hall extends deep into the mountain proper but is nonetheless illuminated in the first half by sunlight beaming in through rows of stained glass windows depicting sorcerers sealing, killing, and even befriending demons. The light comes only from one side of the hall however, the left side shrouded in shadow and illuminated by cheerful blue flames dancing within regularly spaced sconces. It appears that many cambions prefer to enter from the left side of the Hall, avoiding the natural light.
When he turns his gaze upward, it's to marvel at various frescoes decorating the ceiling and upper walls. These seem to tell a cohesive story however, the founding of Felblanc, perhaps? Gothic chandeliers are suspended along the center of the ceiling, providing further illumination with glowing white crystals rather than candles.
The school's crest is hung on an ancient tapestry on the farthest wall. Its base color is black and it's emblazoned with a fiery heart-shaped flame with a skeletal hand closing around it. A leathery wing and ornate silver sword are crossed behind, and on a white scrolling banner underneath, words in spiky script are written in Gaelic.
Sorachi is so preoccupied with examining this peculiar image that he almost doesn't notice when a tall figure moves to block his view. The Great Hall is still filling with people, and he and the students-to-be are pushed to the front while those already wearing uniforms form neat rows in the back. As he stumbles forward, Sorachi glances behind him to see that they're lining up according to tie color. Older sorcerers who must be staff and teachers stand before students with scarlet ties. He glimpses Miss Zinna towards the back, almost by the great double doors before someone else blocks her and gives him another nudge.
The dull murmur of excited student hopefuls and older students reconnecting slowly dies out as the familiar figure of Felblanc's Deputy Headmistress comes to join the unfamiliar figure in front of the tapestry. Ryuzaki's excitement hasn't subsided in the least, but even he goes still as all eyes turn to the pair quietly commanding their attention.

Stella|The Infirmary|endingfairy Ravenshadow dewbranch Stella wakes up to Clarissa shaking her. "Come on! We have to go to the Great Hall!" "Wha-? Why?" Stella sits up, rubbing her eyes. "To become an official student! Why else?" Clarissa nudges Stella out of bed. "Come on!" The infirmary was already empty. Stella grabs Clarissa and starts running out of the room. "Woah! What's the sudden rush?" Clarissa says, easily keeping pace with Stella's frantic run. "I mean, I'm glad you're so eager, but-" "We are going to apologize to those first years you tormented yesterday," Stella interrupts. "Uh, why?" Clarissa stops, staring at Stella. Stella clenches her fists. She loves her sister, but sometimes Clarissa can be oblivious to the effect of her thoughtless actions. "Because that's what's right!" Stella tugs on Clarissa's sleeve, forcing her to keep moving. "I didn't come here to make friends," Clarissa starts. "Making enemies certainly won't help!" Stella insists. She bursts into the Great Hall, scanning the room for the kids. "There!" She pushes through the thick crowd, stepping on everyone's feet or bumping into them. She stops in front of them, Clarissa trailing reluctantly behind. "Hi," she pants. "We wanted to apologize about yesterday. We got off on the wrong foot, and I promise my sister is usually less grumpy." She smiles awkwardly, shutting her mouth before she starts rambling. She reaches out with her foot to nudge Clarissa. Clarissa mumbles an apology, at least having the decency to look ashamed. Stella opens her mouth to introduce herself, but she falls quiet when she realizes Clarissa was leaving. She notices for the first time that they were supposed to be lined up by tie color. She blushes, and falls in line, silent.

Onyx | snowheart1After finishing her breakfast, Onyx followed the crowd of people out to the giant hall. It took her breath away with all the art and the tall ceiling. But the moment was broken however by the voice of the two yelling girls from yesterday. Onyx raised an eyebrow at them, not super impressed with their apologies. After the eventual relent of the smaller one she rolled her eyes, though her expression is slightly softer. "Whatever. Just try not to yell in infirmaries next time. I'm Onyx, by the way." As the hall silenced she immediately stopped talking, her deep green eyes turning their attention to the front of the hall. Her hooves clicked slightly as she turned and she felt warmth rush into her cheeks. Please dear god no one turn to see what that noise was... But no one appeared to care and instead she started fiddling with the pendant around her neck, something she always did when she was nervous.

Ada Hendrix
Her time in the infirmary had been much of a blur, the potions rolling in her stomach and the rush of other people - it was all a little to much. And the fact that they had been accepted, well, she still couldn't believe it. Breakfast had been a blur, she had put something in her stomach, hadn't she? Or had she left her things untouched? It seemed whenever she was here, in the infirmary that she didn't know what was going on, or what she was doing. She changed into the clothes she was given and followed the rest of the crowd.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw Sorachi waving over to her, and she camp up to their pair of boys who she had grown to like. Onyx joined them shortly after and they followed the crowd into the great hall. It seemed everything started to clear up, she could put pieces of what was going on together anyways. She noticed that the former students were standing closer to the back, where Zinna must be. She hadn't seen the Amber Student since she was taken away yesterday, and she couldn't see her now.
Nothing was more awkward than this. They were standing at the front of the hall, for everyone to see them. At least they knew that they had been accepted, and they weren't going to be sent away from everyone. Suddenly, the student that had yelled at them yesterday was being pulled along by another (sister? Friend?) and she apologized. "Oh it's fine, but thanks anyways" She said, at the same time Onyx said, "Whatever. Just try not to yell in infirmaries next time. I'm Onyx, by the way." "Oh! And I'm Ada, Ada Hendrix" She extended her right hand out for a shake.
[ I'll get Zinna up later! ]

Onyx | DewOnyx looked over at the girl who introduced herself as Ada. “Pleased to meet you.” She took the girl’s hand and deftly touched it to her lips with a dip of her head, as was her usual greeting. As she let it fall again she peered into Ada’s face. She was pretty, at least more pretty than Onyx had expected. Onyx felt warmth in her cheeks. God. Why did I introduce myself like that? Literally anything else would’ve been more classy. She took a step back, her eyes staring at the floor as a pinkish color appeared on her cheeks and bridge of her nose. "Uhm- yeah I’m Onyx as you know,” she muttered. “It’s nice to meet- I already said that.” An awkward laugh escaped her throat as she rocked back and forth on her hooves, wanting to sink into the pits of hell and never return. She took a deep breath and composed herself. “I’m not the greatest with introducing myself, forgive my awkwardness.”

Ada Hendrix
Ada almost stepped back when Onyx kissed her hand, staring at the cambion with a look of rather dismay. No one had really - done that before to her, and even if this was something that Onyx always did, it still warmed her slightly. Did she know why? Of course not!
"Yes, we met in the caverns I believe, when we were fighting the cerb ucigaș, and then in the infirmary" Ada said, although had they really met? She picked up the girls name from Zinna, but they hadn't really met, or talked really. Ada remembered that the cambion had fallen asleep shortly after they were introduced, but that was about it. "I was in the cave when you entered, with Sorachi and Ryuzuki" Ada couldn't blame Onyx for forgetting, she forgot things all the time! And really, this was a much better way to meet the other, wasn't it?

Octavian | DewWith a few curses, Octavian finally managed to find the great hall. It had taken him a bit to get there because for some reason when he asked nobody had any idea where it was, but after a few minutes of panicking and wandering around the halls he found it. As per usual, Slit (main phantom) was following him with his whispers. "Would you shut up,” Octavian hissed under his breath. “I need to find where I’m supposed to be and you taking all the time isn’t helping.” He spun around to glare at the apparition, but by the time he had turned to look at him Slit had evaporated with a hoarse laugh. “Just leave me alone for today, alright?” The phantom whispered in Octavian’s ear in his voice that sounded like nails on a chalkboard, causing a shiver to run down his spine. “Don’t tell me what to do, little ghost conjurer. You know as well as I do that I’m stuck with you, as much as I’d like to cut you open and go back to my home. But yet I’m here,” the spirit appeared again and gripped Octavian’s chin, forcing him to look on into Slit’s blood red eyes, “and I’m your only friend. Remember that.” With a grunt, he pulled himself away from the nightmarish figure. “Fine. But I need you to go away at least until I get to my dorm or whatever. Just… just until I can talk to you without looking crazy.” Slit smirked. “I’ll hold you to that, Octavian.” Then he disappeared in a puff of black smoke that smelled like decay, and Octavian breathed a sigh of relief. He straightened himself and quietly entered the archway of the hall before slipping into a line of students who weren’t in uniforms. There were a few girls chatting, and he decided that the one with red hair looked nicer than the draconic cambion. “Hello, I’m wondering if I can just stand here with you until the ceremony is over. I won’t be a pain, I promise.” His tone was gentle for the scarred face and dark aura, although his voice was naturally deep. He seemed hopeful that they’d let him stay. Onyx | She nodded. “Yes, I came in when you and the boys were fighting. You were really good I might add-“ she was cut off by a taller and hooded boy who walked over. Automatically her hand when down to Hope’s End, but at his tone she softened slightly. “Well- I don’t mind. But I want to know if Ada minds.” She looked at the redhaired girl, waiting expectantly for the command to either let the raven haired boy stay or tell him to find a different place to stand. Onyx didn’t really care either way, but there was something about this boy that intrigued her. He seemed dark and dangerous but… something in his face told her that wasn’t the entire story.

Zinna Heartbrook
Great Hall - Open
Zinna hadn't gone back to the infirmary again. Those hopeful's didn't need her, and she didn't need them. This is what she told herself, but the real reason was that she didn't want anyone to see her crying. Well, other than Rex, and Lilia, who she had sparred with yesterday. She had found the Amber also roaming the halls, and Zinna remembered that she had also lost her cell the year before. They had talked about while they spared, and Zinna was thankful for the other Amarok's company.
Now all the students were gathering in the great hall, and Zinna walked beside Lilia, both feeling a little sad. Well, at least that was how Zinna felt. From what Lilia had told her, she wasn't really sad anymore, just mad, and she wanted revenge. Understandable. I guess I do too, but now I just want to cry. Zinna closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them, standing with the other Amber students. It wasn't common for students cells to drop out or get killed, but that didn't mean it wasn't a punch in the gut. "Thanks for walking with me" She whispered to Lilia, folding her hands in front of her. She knew she looked stiff, but that was how she felt. "No big deal, wasn't doing anything anyways" Lilia whispered back, before a silence feel over the two girls again.

Ada Hendrix
Ada turned to see the boy that had joined them, and she met his gaze, not saying anything for a moment. Onyx's voice brought Ada from her thoughts, and she blinked again before saying anything. "Oh yeah, that's fine. As Onyx said, I'm Ada Hendrix" She said. New people in general didn't really scare her, or so she had thought before now. Maybe being from a small town and knowing just about everyone made her seem a little jittery around others, but some people were a little frightening! There was Ryuzuki, who was nice really, but still scary, Onyx of course was a little scary and... and this guy scared her a little. She could tell he was trying to be friendly, and he even seemed a little- well she didn't have a word for it. But the way he said 'I won't be a pain I promise' seemed like he was a little desperate. For friends? Company? Stop! She commanded herself. She did things like this a lot, stare off into space in a never-ending spiral of thoughts that she had to bring herself out of. He was way taller than her, but slim, with pale skin that contrasted his dark hair. His hair slightly covered his face, and she could see some small scars under it.

Octavian | DewHe gave an awkward smile and dipped his head graciously at her words. “Thank you. It’s very nice to meet you, Ada. My name is Octavian.” As he spoke a lesser phantom appeared behind Ada, a sharp blade gripped in its scaly hand. It gestured to Ada with a wicked grin, miming stabbing her in the neck. His eyes became wide and he tried in vain to be discreet as he evaporated the apparition with a flick of his fingers. Majority of his demons happened from those tiny thoughts that entered his mind, the ones that you would never dare telling even your closest companion. Or they were just jerks who wanted him to have a panic attack in front of other people. His expression remained tense as he glanced around, seeing other figures in the corners of the room. A tight sensation appeared around his throat. Stay calm. Don’t cause a scene. Just… breathe. “Go away,” he murmured in an inaudible tone. They stayed for a few seconds, but his resolve was true and eventually they disappeared. He blinked. Usually they didn’t listen to a damn word he said, but maybe because of all the light magic in the school it was hard to torment him. His expression changed as one of his favorite phantoms appeared, the small form of a gecko which curled up on his shoulder with a tiny croak. He reached up a hand and petted it absentmindedly, careful to not touch it too much or it would disappear. Then he turned to the cambion, a curious expression on his face. “And you are… ?” As he usually did when nervous, he pulled out his little bag of dried plums and popped one in his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. Food always tasted better when you were either nervous or starving. Because the girls didn’t look interested in talking to him, he turned away so he could see the front of the hall. ( He’s like a mix of magic and schizophrenic :] ) Onyx | Her eyes narrowed as his expression stared tensely at something just behind Ada, but when she turned there was nothing there. Onyx turned back in time to see him mutter something under his breath, and see a small lizard appear on his shoulder. “Oh- I’m Onyx.” She had to practically tear her hand away from her dagger, forcing herself to relax. He was strange. Her mind told her that he was dangerous and dark, but her heart said that there was something else to it. She turned away from him towards Ada and gave a halfhearted chuckle. “Well that was… interesting. He seemed lonely or perhaps lack thereof. I wonder what he was staring at.”

Ada Hendrix
Octavian was the boy's name, as he had said. "Nice to meet you" Ada said, smiling. He seemed fine, if not a little strange, but everyone and everything was strange here. Heck, I bet that he's thinking the same thing about me! She met his gaze again only to find it staring intently at her, or something behind her, and she couldn't help but inhale slightly with fear. The look looked kind of panicked, but she wasn't sure why. Ada took a look to see if anything was behind her, but when she turned she didn't see anything. Strange. Sometimes it seemed that she could read people better than anything else, or more like focus on their every detail unlike anything else. Ada suspected that it had something to do with being a medic, but then again why would it? Maybe it was just a strange thing about her. Or maybe it was something that everyone did, and she wasn't doing anything strange at all.
Once she came out of her thoughts it seemed that Octavian was done with talking to them, or thought that they didn't want to talk to him, because he turned away and it seemed like their conversation was over. It was a shame really, she wanted to learn more about him, but maybe she would see him again. "Me too, made me feel a little uneasy to be honest" Maybe she was a little too sure that she could trust Onyx, but that was just in her nature, it was how she worked. It already seemed she was so different than how she was in the cave, and Ada just suspected that was because the adrenaline had worn off. Even so, would Sorachi or Ryuzuki even recognize her behavior? The pair of boys were standing only a little ways away, just out of earshot. "I wish he stayed a little though. He seems interesting"

Octavian | endingfairyHe glanced around at the people around him, still munching on the plums. Octavian usually wasn’t around people so being crowded between them was a new experience for him. Eventually he stopped jumping at every slight touch and instead stood there, rigid as a board. As someone stepped on his foot he yelped and jumped back, bumping into two boys. “S-sorry,” he said quickly. “I didn’t mean to run into you.” His small gecko apparition disappeared with a displeased croak, and Octavian sighed in disappointment to see it go. He could just conjure another one, but phantoms created intentionally were never as exciting as natural occurring ones. But not all of the naturally occurring ones were nice. Especially if they were like Slit. Those ones were the worst. Onyx | Dew“Yeah, me too. Maybe we’ll see him around the halls sometime.” She looked at him with a small snort, seeing him bump into the two boys from the infirmary. ‘Ryuzkai and Sorachi,’ she reminded herself silently. “Poor guy. He seems just as confused as any of us.” She let out a small laugh before going back to her usual sarcastic manner. “Although I’m guessing most of the time we’re going to be out of the school; you know, banishing demons.”

The redhead who had scolded them the previous day was abruptly dragged over to apologize for said scolding, and Sorachi tucked a wry smile into his cheek at the familiar sight. He doesn't actually know these girls, but he can sympathise with the taller one's position. It's like seeing himself and Ryu, on the outside looking in. Except this girl is markedly more singleminded, she seemed deaf and blind to the protests and irritated grumbles as she elbowed her way through the assembling crowd and stepped on a number of feet that were fortunately covered in thick combat boots.
"No worries, I understand!" He waved away her concerns in a hushed voice. "We must have been rather disruptive if you could hear us from where you lay. My apologies again." When the girl offered a tentative smile, he readily returned it.
Ryuzaki did not share this sentiment, as he huffed and eyed the redhead with a wrinkle to his aquiline nose. He opened his mouth to make another pithy remark, but the redhead simply walked away before he could and Sorachi discreetly elbowed him to keep him from calling after her. Instead he grumbled under his breath and returned to facing forward with arms crossed, Sora sighing with relief.
The girls to their right were talking quietly amongst themselves, prompting Sorachi to smile at what would hopefully be the beginning of a meaningful friendship (he just...needs to disregard the circumstances that brought them into each others' orbit) and he was trying not to listen in when a tall prospective student- going by the lack of uniform- almost backed into him. Ryuzaki responded immediately, throwing out an arm to prevent him from knocking Sorachi over and hissing out a, "Watch yourself!"
The onmyōji's response is equally instinctive, one hand on the cambion's arm to both steady himself and keep him away from the dark-haired boy, and his bandaged arm raised to placate them both. "It's alright! Just an accident, and it is bound to happen with everyone packed so close together." He slants a look beyond them, where the actual students are in neat, militaristic rows. The majority of them don't even so much as fidget, only moving to allow others to pass by. "I suppose we are a long way from that kind of discipline." He laughs softly, straightening with his head still turned toward the newcomer. He really has to crane his neck but he's unfortunately rather used to it at this point.
"Please don't mind Ryu-"
"I don't like his scent." The cambion scowls, placing a hand on one small shoulder and dragging the onmyōji closer to him.
"Please ignore Ryu." Sorachi sighs.
"Oi! Quiet up there!" A deep voice snaps from behind them and Sorachi colors, immediately going stiff but for a raised hand that partially hides his embarassaed face. "Sorry!" He squeaks, just as movement from the front draws his gaze forward.

[ THE GREAT HALL ]
--
A respectful hush falls over those gathered as a tall, stately figure dressed solely in darkest black walks up to the front of the large room. There is no podium or stage with which to raise her above anyone else or project her voice, yet she commands attention all the same. Her face is covered by a lace veil, yet she still gives the impression of silently looking out over those gathered. Weighing and measuring each individual as if her face covering gives her the power to see through them. Logestilla Waters comes to stand at her right, contrasting sharply in a knee-length black dress with pink lace that looks as if it were poured on, her pastel blue coiled hair in a braid that cascades over her shoulder. She isn't wearing accessories today, but her dainty features are as serene as ever.
"You now stand before Her Grace Viscountess Irkalla, Headmistress of Felblanc Academy and Thirteenth Commandant of The United Kingdom's Reserve Purgatory." Logestilla flicks a small glass ball to float in the air in front of the Headmistress before standing back and neatly folding black gloved hands in front of her.
The rows of staff and students alike silently salute by bringing their right fists to their hearts in response, left arm folded behind their backs.
"I would like to first thank the dauntless Exorcists who gave their lives during this year's entrance exam." Her voice is soft and melodic, yet strong enough with support of the magic item that it carries even to the last of the neat rows assembled. "They offered up their own so that many of you could be here today. We will mourn but we do not lament. Every person who cannot stand with us today has died in service of something greater, fulfilling their duties to the utmost. You may not know their names or even their faces...I implore you to visit the memorial in the Eastern Courtyard and commit them to memory. For every difficult training bout you face, trial or test, remember that you are here due to their deliverance. Strive to achieve greater heights for more than your own sake, for we are Felblanc of Radiant Paths, and we dedicate our hearts in service of humanity."
"We dedicate our hearts!" Comes a uniform shout from those gathered behind the new students, all of them once again saluting with their fists over their chests at once.
The Headmistress and her Deputy do so as well, straightening their backs and lifting their chins.
"We mourn too, for the tragic loss of life suffered by our examinees. May they find peace, and their families patience to withstand their absence. They were no less brave, and fought for a life they could be proud of." She goes silent for a moment, lowering her head and pressing a gloved hand to her heart.
"I now welcome you to Felblanc Academy, Azures and dear returning students alike." Irkalla pauses to look out over them again. "This year's entrance exam was a trial the likes of which has not been seen by our Academy for many decades. It was terrible and brutal. It was necessary."
There's a ripple of unease but no voice can be heard above hers. "You may have heard that the number of Tears in the Veil has increased drastically in the past three years. The quality of demons that come through have also risen in scale. No longer are we maintaining the balance. We are battling to defend it. I will not lie to you, humanity's grip on the scale is slipping. Even now, demons are tearing into the populations of mundane humans. Magic may hide the true nature of this invasion for them, but not the scale. Thousands are dying now, without ever knowing why..."
Her voice goes softer, wispy. She lifts her chin and appears to stare into the middle distance, fixated on something only she can see. The staff and higher ranking students wait patiently for her to come back to herself, turning her invisible but tangible gaze to them once more.
"Those who remain before me are the valiant applicants who faced the hellish conditions of Pheltronan and snarled in the face of death. The face of fear and agony. Even now you may be bloodied and bruised yet here you stand tall in preparation to face many more like it. And you will, face many more...again and again until you finally succumb. Death comes for us all, but we will choose how we die! We will choose why we die! Every mission is one in which we snatch victory from the iron jaws of defeat! That skeletal hand of despair!"
Her voice rises, still monotone but tinged with something a bit fiercer. Irkalla's gaze cuts. She stares into the eyes of the new students and dares them to do the same.
"You are now proud students of Felblanc Academy for Radiant Paths! May you shine brilliantly until the very end, and may your fleeting lives illuminate the paths for others to follow in your wake! Dedicate your hearts!"
"We dedicate our hearts!"
Again, a proud chorus follows after her words loud enough to shake the stained glass windows lining the Great Hall. It reverbrates with the synchronized 'thump' of fists on chests, over pounding hearts that for a single moment, appear to beat as one.
They hold it for a moment before dropping their fists, and Irkalla folds her hands before her, entire demeanor changing to become demure once again.
"We will now begin assigning Houses and Cells. Please come forward when your name is called."
