"...Thank you." He hesitated a bit, but spoke once his head was clear enough to do so. He ate a few bites before nudging it over. Her presence was all he needed to not feel completely miserable.

"The clan might not like it when I tell them, but at least I may know who I want to send next." He pawed at the vervain flower. "I found this on the leader's nest. It wasn't there when I left for the tree, and it had no distinguishable scent." He looked over at her. "I think I may pick Vervainfrost... This has to mean something, especially since flowers don't just pop out of nowhere."

[Vervainfrost || clearing || Sunstreak, Mintnight, Mudskip]

Vervainfrost shortly followed suit. She positioned herself not too far from him after getting herself a small bird that she picked some of the feathers off of. Before there was anything for her to say, Mintnight practically exploded through the clan entrance in a seeming hurry. Wherever she was going though, it didn't matter because the next thing she knew she witnessed her clanmate unconscious by her. The alarms began going off in their head. "Mudskip! Mintnight just fainted!" they called out, hoping the other healer would hear them.

[Mudskip || Healer den || Mintnight, open]

"Mudskip! Mintnight just fainted!"

The old cat's nose twitched as he stood up and ran out of the den practically. He listened for a breath or sign of life and noticed the blood on her paws plus the scent of a vole. "I think she possibly did a little too much hunting for today." he stated flatly, going into the den briefly before returning with a wad of cooled moss. He placed it on her forehead and quietly watched, waiting for her to wake up and tell him what exactly was going on.

[Mudskip || den and camp || Mintnight, open]

Mudskip had dragged the warrior into her nest gently, making sure to cause no further injury. As she wheezed her words out, Mudskip's ears twitched. 'Leader? Tree?' He looked confused. He knew that Mistcloud had gone to the Star Tree tonight, and so did everyone else in the clan, so why was she bringing it up?

...unless...

The old tom shook his head, feeling his pelt bristling uneasily. No, no- it couldn't be that. There was no way he'd been rejected, right?

"Easy there, Mint... take it easy. You can tell me about it when you get back up..." Soon she had drifted back into unconsciousness, so he left her be for now to hobble his way out to the middle of the camp. The thought of having no deputy, let alone a leader would cause a panic among the clan. It was still early in the evening, the moon maybe a third of the way into the sky, so he would've had to pick a deputy and climb the tree before sunrise. But if neither happened, then the clan would be without a leader at all, at least for now.

This hadn't been the first time this happened. When Wolfthorn tried to become leader, he hadn't picked a deputy either, but with him it was an easy choice of who the next leader would be. Ryefeather was chosen, and led the clan so well.

The choices were less than ideal this time. Sunstreak may be a good choice, or the only choice. Since Mistcloud was still alive though, he would pick his next cat to go.

'At least the fall didn't kill him.' He thought, trying to be at the least a bit optimistic.

(LillyFur -Near the Ridge- open)
LillyFur walked peacefully through the tall grass. The bird on her back proudly sung a song.
The she-cat flicks her ears as she listens for any noise in the grass.
"Will you hush? It's late. Go to sleep."
The little starling stopped and chirped at her in distain before continuing his song.
"No one is going to reply Archer. They are all asleep as you should be!"

Mintnight
Mintnight had finally gained full consciousness,but both her legs still hurt so Mudskip adviserd her not to walk for some time.That was all fine with Mintnight exsept that she was bored out of her mind.When she woke up,Mudskip was just about to go gather herbs (most likely to calm him self if Mintnight said any thing about Mistcloud while she was asleep) and would talk to her once he came back.
So Mintnight was left alone with her thoghts untill someone came along,and that someone was going to be Morningpaw because she was right out side of the med den trying to get Sunstreak's atention.She was doing this in a bit of a rude way,but when Sunstreak stoped eating and was about to answer Morningpaw questions,Mintnight stoped him"Sunstreak no,I'll talk to Morningpaw and you finish eating with Vervainfrost."Sunstreak passed for a second and the nodded,going back to eating and talking with Vervainfrost.
"So what where you going to ask them."And then waithed for a answer from Morningpaw.

The sudden appearance of Morningpaw in front of them snapped her attention to the apprentice that had stomped over to them. Vervainfrost lifted their tail. "Mistcloud will call a meeting when-"

Before they could even finish their sentence, a yowl echoed through the camp from the top of the leader den.

[Mistcloud and Vervainfrost || Top of den]

He finished eating and took a final breath before getting up and going outside, letting a yowl erupt from his chest. "All cats old enough to venture to the starfall place please gather below the den. I have an extremely important announcement..."

Cats began to crawl out from their dens, some groggy, and others wide awake. The cats filed oug and he looked up to the sky nervously.

When the clan had been gathered beneath him, he hesitated before speaking.

"This wasn't news I wanted to deliver tonight, but you all deserve the truth," He said, and it became quiet enough to drop a feather. "As you all know, I went to the star tree tonight... I wasn't chosen. The branch broke beneath me while I was climbing." He stated and there was instant gasps and quiet chattering. He felt many pairs of eyes burn into his very soul. "I did not have a deputy chosen before I left. This was a mistake but I plan to fix this. I believe The Other Side sent me a sign." He raised the flower he had to the sky. It was illuminated against the moon.

Mudskip squinted his eyes to see what the tom was holding against the moonlight. "Is that...?"

Mutters echoed across the clearing.

"Vervainfrost."

The cats cleared around the jack. They felt themself frozen to the ground, staring up at the cat who was supposed to be leader. This cat was telling them that they were supposed to be the new leader? Why didn't he say something when they went to the tree? This could've been fixed sooner! Plus, she wasnt sure if it was something to take on. She stepped slightly closer to see it. The shock washed through their blood. It was a vervain.

They shakily started walking forward. The eyes of the cats burned into their pelt. The only experience she ever had with being a warrior was her training, and the Battle of the Bobcats at the ridge just after she got her healer name. Cats had perished, but she battled hard as she could to save everyone she could, nearly loosing her own life. She tentatively jumped up besides him and dipped her head.

"Vervainfrost, I found this in the leader nest. I have reason to believe this was sent as a sign... I ask on behalf of the cats of The Other Side- Would you accept the position of leader, to lead your clan for seasons through battle and peace?"

She opened her mouth and the words felt as if they just came out by a force not by their own. "I will."

"Then your next quest will be to climb the Star Tree to claim your lives! Since I wasn't accepted as the leader tonight, I will be stepping down to a warrior. You will have to choose your deputy and claim your lives before moonhigh tomorrow." The stars and moon seemed to sparkle brighter overhead. 

The meeting was soon disbanded and the two climbed down.

Sunstreak let out a shocked gasp as Vervainfrost was declared to become the next leader. His eyes opened wide as Vervainfrost gave a meow of approval.

As the clan disbanded to their dens, Sunstreak quickly made his way to talk to the cats before they walked away. "Vervainfrost, congratulations. And Mistcloud-" he turned to face them. "-well done. That too bravery, and there will always be a spot for you in the warriors den. I'll go out and fetch some nice feathers for you both, you all deserve it."

As the cats began to congratulate Vervainfrost, the two were stopped by Sunstreak. The two dipped their heads, but Mistcloud was a bit suprised by his response. He felt that his rejection was going to be something that the clan cats would judge him harshly for it or criticize him, but Sunstreak at the least was rational about it and didnt seem to respect him any less than before. "Thank you, Sunstreak. That means a lot to me." There was a glint of happiness in his eyes- perhaps the first of today.

The cheers and congrats had echoed around her. It still felt... surreal. It felt like a strange dream. The jack knew it was nothing short of real as their name was chanted. But would they be able to lead the clan efficiently? Not by themselves, no. That's why she needed a deputy that knew how to lead the clan in ways she still needed to learn.

As Sunstreak spoke, she felt flattered but uncertain. What was it that she HAD done to deserve this? Maybe a visit to the Starfall Place was in order after the leader rite of passage.

Mintnight had appeared before them. It seemed she was in better shape than earlier and had asked about the feathers. Though she would've argued as healer that maybe she needed to be in the den a bit longer to make sure she wouldn't pass out again, ultimately she could only keep an eye on the other to make sure she was okay and to put trust into Mudskip. 'He is the healer now, after all. If she was cleared, I won't argue.' She thought "Are you doing better than earlier?" They asked calmly. It seemed like she was, so she purred in satisfaction. "Maybe if you would like? I could tag along? I know Sunstreak was asking about a patrol earlier, I believe."

The results of the meeting were... startling, to say the least. He watched the young cat accept the chatters of 'congratulations' and such. He didn't say much as he didn't want to bother her. He went back yo his den to see if Mintnight was still in his den. Unsurprisingly, the answer was no. Sometimes, Mintleaf could be a bit trickier to work with, but he knew she was still a young and fit cat. She'd be alright, which is why he opted to not pursue her back into the den.

The cat flickered an ear as he noticed Lillyfur and Archer had not been within the crowd or camp. He stood up, deciding to see where they went. A cat asked where he was headed. "Heading out to see where Lillyfur and Archer are." He responded as he hobbled past. It didn't take long before he heard the echoes if Archer's chirps and Lillyfur's voice. He slowly pushes out from the brush so as to not startle either. "Hey, you guys missed the ceremony... you guys alright?" He asked. His voice was typically rough voiced and quiet, but assertive.

Cypressheart found all of this interesting to say the least. He had his doubts regarding Vervainfrost but he wasn't going to say anything. He would silently observe to see what kind of leader he turned out to be. The Other Side chose him for a reason.


Greyfoot just shakes his head. He couldn't see Vervainfrost being the leader that they all needed. He stalks off away from the crowd annoyed by the whole situation.

[Mistcloud || camp || Silverbranch]

His ears perked up as he heard Silverbranch approach. "Hm? Oh! Hi Silverbranch!" He smiled a bit. "Hah- yeah. At least I didn't end up like Wolfthorn, right?" He joked a bit to put himself in an even better mood. "I know The Other Side made the right choice. She may just need a bit of help. Going from healer to leader? That's gotta be a really intense shift. Nevermind that for now though." He shook his head slightly. "Hey, I don't know how patrols are going to be set up for tomorrow, but would you like to go hunting with me tomorrow? Maybe sometime after sunrise. If the sun's out maybe the prey wont be so skittish of the leftover cold."

Mistcloud's goal has been to strengthen his relationship with each of his clanmates. So far, he's gone into good spirits with all of them (maybe besides Mudskip), but he felt his work was far from over. Silverbranch is someone he is on pretty good terms with constantly, and he wanted to keep it that way. What better than a hunting patrol?
