“Eh it has been kinda quiet.” Carter spoke. “Not a lot of new trainers recently.” He spoke, pulling his notebook back out to look at his list. “And research is ok. I’ve hit a wall.” He admitted. “Trying to upgrade the Pokédex is difficult.” He shook his head. “I’m going to go see Jacob in sunyshore for help.”

“What are you trying to do?” Echo asked, curious to know what Carter had been up to lately. She was glad to have this time with a couple of her old friends, being able to talk to them like this. At least it was distracting her from her recent worries, the rumors that she had heard and what had caused her to slip away from the Pokémon League briefly. “And how can Jace help with your research?”

Carter looked at Echo. “There are over 1000 discovered pokemon and more are discovered all the time.” He spoke. “I’m trying to update the Pokédex to be able to handle that amount of data and still be small and portable.” He spoke before looking at Valentino. “I’m always looking for stuff to fill the Pokédex.” He added. “And Jace is a technical wizard, he’s automated most of the city. I’m hoping he might have some insight I don’t.”

“Jace can help me fill my Pokedex anytime.” Valentino swooned with a smirk, before he glanced up as the elevator dinged to the top floor. They could work their way down from there. “Destination arrived! If you lose sight of me, it’s because I’m flirting with the sales associate, she called me pretty once and I haven’t gotten over it.” He purred, strolling off the elevator.

Carter gave Valentino a mildly confused look. “How is Jace going to help you with your Pokédex?” He asked, mostly to himself. He moved off the elevator. He moved to head to the left, hopefully he could find what he needed.

Echo gave a small laugh at Valentino’s comment and followed him off the elevator, “I’m sure between the two of you geniuses, you’ll figure it out pretty quick.” She said to Carter, glancing around the department store. She figured that while she was her, she might as well pick up some supplies for the path that laid ahead of her. Carter might have been joking around before, but the idea of wearing a mask was actually pretty sensible. Perhaps the Department Store had one that would suit her.

Valentino gave a grin as sharp as a Sharpdo. “There are many ways to fill my Pokedex, Carter. You can assist as much as you like. Ha!” He immediately brightened when he saw a new Luvdisc plush on the wall. “Oh! Yes, yes, mine mine!” He gasped, rushing over to it.

Carter was in his own world now, moving down the aisles to get the things he needed. Some were more basic and some were things he could use for projects. He checked a few things off his list.

Echo wandered off on her own, leaving Carter and Valentino to their own devices. As she walked along the aisles, Echo started gathering the needed supplies she was going to need. She wanted to make sure that she was stocked up on potions, revives, and other necessities for her travels.

After a few moments, Valentino was already engrossed in a deep conversation with one of the clerks, aiming to make her blush as he swooned at her. Luckily, she seemed receptive, her laughter like music to the young man. Bidding her a kiss blown to her with his hand, he picked up his Luvdisc plush and small basket of items and looked around to see if Echo and Carter had found anything they wanted.

Finished gathering her supplies, Echo started making her way towards the store clerk to pay for her stuff. She gave the store clerk a friendly smile as she was ringing her up. While she waited, Echo considered what her next move was going to be. If the rumors were to be believed, the so called Pokémon Black Market had mostly been active in the bigger cities of Sinnoh, so that eliminated the smaller towns but it probably still wouldn’t hurt to check them out just to be safe.

“Is she trying to pay for that? Oh, stubborn thing! Use my card!” Valentino tried to push his way up to pay for Echo’s thing, but he squawked as he was pulled back by his Froslass, who shook her head with a knowing glance. Valentino pouted, but relented with hands on his hips. “Well. Let me owe you next time then.”

Bankrupt is a word that does not exist in my vocabulary, darling.” Valentino scoffed with a boyish grin, before he tapped his nails on the counter. “Though, I may pinch my coins when the Grand Festival comes. Ohhh, I can feel it now, the lights, the energy, the passion!” He swooned. |

“Oh, I wouldn’t expect you to spare no expense for the Grand Festival. If you didn’t go all out, I would have to take you to the hospital, because there’s definitely something wrong with you then.” Echo teased lightly, rearranging her bag to fit everything she had bought. She glanced around for Carter, wondering where the young Professor had wandered off to. “Should we go get Carter before he gets lost?”

This one, I am paying for. Charlotte, do not let him pay.” Valentino perked up when he saw Carter again. As soon as the Professor approached, the store clerk widened her eyes with a gasp of realization. “Val!! You have the Champion and Professor with you?!” “Shh!! Hush, love, shh! Secret! No crowds, they’ll get anxious.” Valentino whispered with a playful grin to the young woman. |

“Yes, please keep my visit quiet. I’m traveling incognito, don’t want the Elite Four to know where I’m at currently.” Echo said to the store clerk with a friendly smile. The idea of wearing a mask everywhere she went was starting to appeal to Echo more and more now. Of course it was only a matter of time until the Elite Four caught on to the fact that she was no longer at the Pokémon League and Shard was sent her way to bring her back, but it would be nice to keep things under wraps until then.

“Ah. I see.” The clerk moved her hand to zip her lips tightly as she promised. “I won’t make a scene then. If you like, there’s costume items sold on the 2nd floor of the store, we may have some concealing items if that helps.” She offered, ever the saleswoman.
“Ooh. Like a masquerade ball! That was the contest theme for the Canalave City library contest last year.” Valentino smiled, recalling the night with fondness and a hint of passion. “Oh, to be danced with like that again.” He purred, more than happily shared amongst many dance partners that evening.

“I suppose I’ll check it out then. Thank you.” Echo said with a grateful nod to the clerk. She looked over at Carter and Valentino, “I’m going to head to the second floor then. Meet you guys once I’m done?” She asked.

Carter let Valentino pay without any fuss, knowing better than to complain at this point. He nodded his thanks to the clerk before looking at his friends. “I remember the days where we didn’t have to hide when we went to the store.” He said with a small chuckle.

“We’ll meet you down there, love.” Valentino promised Echo as he pristinely organized Carter’s item into one of the cute tote bags he liked to get for purchases. He paid for the items with a wink to Charlotte, before he handed the bag to Carter and offered a content hum. “I remember the days when I did nothing but hide. Ugh. Makes me cringe to think about it. Needless to say, when you two are the most influential people in the region, you tend to get some attention. But, I suppose it’s not so delicious when you cannot market off of it as easily as I can.”
He ran a hand through his hair with a long breath. “It’s expected of me to be right in the spotlight. For you two, I suppose it’s far more taxing, yes?”

Echo quickly made her way down to the second floor and searched out where they kept the masks, wanting to make this as quick as possible. Visiting with Valentino and Carter had already delayed her quite a bit, and she didn’t want to put her search on hold for too long. She eyed the masks, looking for one that wasn’t too cumbersome or clunky. She certainly didn’t want one that would draw even more attention to herself either, so any that Valentino would pick out was definitely off the table. “Hmm…” Echo hummed to herself thoughtfully, her eyes finally landing on one that seemed perfect for her. Grinning, she picked it out and made her way to the store clerk to ring her up. “This will have to do for now.” She mused to herself.

“Alright, Riolu! Use tackle!” Nova said to the fighting type pokemon, pointing towards the Shinx she had encountered along Route 202, just outside of Sandgem Town. Riolu let out a cry and charged towards the Shinx, tackling it with full force. The Shinx struggled to get back to its paws, weakened significantly from the battle already. Nova pulled a pokeball out of her pocket, feeling a bit nervous about catching her first Pokémon. “Okay, here goes nothing!” She said to herself, launching the pokeball at the Shinx. She held her breath as the ball opened and pulled the Shinx in, watching nervously as the ball shook a few times before it finally stilled, “Yes! We did it, Riolu! We caught a Shinx!” Nova said happily, catching Riolu in her arms when he jumped towards her and hugged him. She ran over to the pokeball and picked it up, “Looks like we’ve got a new friend.”
