Sorrelvine noticed how uncomfortable Shinedawn was and, remembering the teasing he received in his youth, decided to not pry further into the state of her wings. Lapislake had clearly picked up on his earlier comment about Shinedawn's wings, though, and he silently cursed to himself.
"Well met, Lapislake! Say, did you say there was a beach around here? I'm honestly surprised; where I'm from, my colony resides by a beach, and yet I have not picked up on the sound of waves here. What is it like? Do you have thunderstorms there often?"

She tilts her head curiously, momentarily forgetting about her apprehension. "What's a beach?"

Lapislake, not getting the hint, looked disappointed that Shinecloud hid her wings. Her ears dropped slightly and for a second she wondered if the wings were so fragile a single glare could harm them. "Hello, Sinedawn!" She greeted, still trying to sound cheerful. "Is something the matter? I heard from this tom-" she motioned her tail to Sorrelvine- "that your wings are hurt. Do you need me to fetch someone to look after them for you?" Easier said than done... I'm not even sure if I could find another winged feline in these parts, large as Fourtrees can be...

Sorrelvine turned in Shinedawn's direction. He didn't blame her for not knowing about beaches — she lived in the skies, after all — but how could he explain them?
"You see, a beach is a place where dry land meets the ocean. The special part about the land is that it's often a light brown color, and is made of little grains that get everywhere. When it gets hot, cats on the land enjoy going into the water to cool down." Was that a decent explanation? No doubt my explanation of sand will get lost in translation...

"Oh no, it's fine! It looks a lot worse than it is- and it doesn't even look that bad, ha ha! I can clean them up later, it's not that big of a deal." She insisted nervously, hoping that Lapislake wouldn't insist on finding a healer

No, no... this won't do. This won't do at all. It took every fiber of his being not to lash out at Lapislake. Shinedawn was undoubtedly very apprehensive at the moment; Sorrelvine didn't need two working eyes to see it. Nevertheless, he took a breath. Calm down, Sorrelvine... Lapislake is genuinely concerned about Shinedawn's well-being. You were, too. Loathing begets loathing; do not forget that, Sorrelvine.
"Actually, it will be all right, Lapislake. I must have been mistaken earlier about the wings. Right, Shinedawn?"

"Also, Shinedawn, picture a lake, and then the land surrounding the lake. Now, switch the sizes of the lake and the land so there is significantly more water than land. The land touching the water makes up the beach." I was never good at explaining things... what have I done?

"Oh- yeah! It really doesn't hurt at all." She went to spread a wing to prove it, but then stopped herself, reminding herself that her wings most likely unsettled the other cats at the gathering. She smiled gratefully at Sorrelvine, hoping that he'd meant to help her and it didn't look like she was smiling at him for no reason like a weirdo.

"Oh, that makes sense, thank you for explaining."

Sorrelvine dipped his head towards Shinedawn. Even if his explanation of beaches was mediocre at best, he was fortunate that he was able to help her somehow.
He turned towards Lapislake. "Stars, I almost forgot to ask! You said you lived close to this clearing. Are there other cats with you? Do you belong to a group of sorts?"

Lapislake tilted her head in confusion at Shinedawn's question about beaches. It was so simple to explain , or should be. She lives near one her whole life, and yet She was at a loss for words. After hearing Sorrelvine's explaination, she butted in with her own two-cents. "Oh, yes! The sand feels lovely between the crevices of your paws, and there are plenty of critters to meet! There are crabs, which scuttle about on shells too large for them, and sea birds that soar and chatter above your head! Sneaky little things those birds! Tried to catch them on several occasions! Talk about ruffling my feathers!" She bristled faintly, unsure if that choice of words would offend Shinedawn.

"Oh, you hunt birds?" She asked, her voice still nervous thanks to this whole situation. It must be hard to catch birds if you can't fly. Her wings fluffed up slightly, and she shivered. It was pretty cold here.

Mildly overwhelmed by Sorrelvine's stack of inquiries, Lapislake answered them hastily. "Oh, the beach out here doesn't storm as often as you'd think! The climate there is mostly humid, and we do get a couple of foggy days here and there!" Straining to pick up the sound of the ocean through all the conversations, the Molly felt stunned and a bit uncomfortable that the sound of comforting waves hitting the shore never replied. An uneasy pricked worked it's way into her fur and for the first time she wondered if she might be dreaming. Regaining herself, she answered her company's next question. "A clan? Didn 't you mention you were part of a tempest, like a storm? Would that be considered a clan? Cats hardly visit the beach, but I do see a few regulars! Mostly people stop by to sun themselves or relax near the sea! " she said the term people as if these cats ,would instantly know what she was talking about.

It was pretty cold here. "Well, techinically... Though I've never personally caught a seagulls before." She muttered, " Those gulls are always so cheeky, I much prefer to give them a scratch to remember rather than make them my dinner. Curious on the taste though. .. " Lapislake swiped her tongue over her jaws to further this point. "Oh! The clams by the shore aren't so bad either, though it's more of an acquired taste. They're hard to get out of their tough shell, and the sling meat inside isn't for every cat! I don't mind though, but I have to be half starved to work for a meal! Leftovers are much tastier! " with a purr she thought of all the abandoned picnic baskets and tuna sandwiches found during her years...

Shinedawn looks around a bit more as Lapislake answers the questions, wanting to explore but far too nervous to wander off or talk to anyone that didn’t approach her first. She half wishes that she could crawl back into the shadows and hide… but Sorrelvine seemed like a good cat, and maybe Lapislake was too? Besides, she was a Dusk Sky cat, not a night cat, which was clear from how quickly she’d been seen before. *if I go back now, someone else will find me, and they might not be so nice*

Sorrelvine noticed that Shinedawn was beginning to shiver. He slowly moved over to her, willing to let her rest against him if she wished, although he wished he had a large enough pelt for the task.
Sorrelvine found Lapislake's description of her beach interesting. There was admittedly something ominous about a beach covered in fog; it sounded like the perfect opportunity for the souls of the Depths Dark to come onto the land. But he was more surprised at the mention of humans. The only thing he ever knew of humans was tales of a group of them perishing upon crashing their boat onto the island, with the surviving cats being the very founders of Colony Tempest. I wonder how these cats would react if they could read my thoughts. Would they think me crazy?

Sorrelvine picked up on Lapislake's conversation about prey on the beach and thought back to the sparrow he had earlier that day. He had originally thought the current events were brought about by hallucinations from eating the bird, but in all honesty, he preferred this reality.
"I maybe not be able to speak for Lapislake, but her lands sound surprisingly similar to my own, save for the humans. We have both a beach and a forest, like the one we're in right now. There are birds that reside in the forest, like sparrows and magpies, and sometimes creatures like squirrels and voles can be found. I'm curious, though; what prey do you have in the skies?"

Shinedawn opened her mouth to respond to Sorrelvine's question when something caught her eye a few fox lengths away. She didn't want to leave, but curiosity was overcoming her, so she excused herself quietly and trotted away before anyone could protest. It was only when crowds of cats had blocked her line of sight from the only cats she knew in this unfamiliar place that she realised just how badly she'd messed up. A few groups of cats noticed her, whispering about her wings and pointing to her with their tails. Her breathing was getting faster, she needed to get out of here. She ran, only to crash into someone...

(characters on the front page, I figured I needed to bring in my queen of cringe after hyping her up for so long so you can witness her in the flesh.)
Bloodyrose's eyes narrowed as she padded into fourtrees. What was this? The clearing was completely full of cats on the full moon. "This shouldn't be possible," she meowed in disbelief, "Me and my sons killed everyone!"

Leapkit's orange eyes seemed to glow from the shadows of a bush, watching the other cats interact and trying to figure what was going on himself.

(Lmao this is great)
Shinedawn crouched on the ground in fear as she saw an evil-looking she-cat stalk into the clearing. She was definitely someone to be afraid of, and Shinedawn jumped up and flapped her wings to try and fly away, only to discover her wings were too badly injured. Hissing in pain and fear, Shinedawn ran back to the shadowy undergrowth, letting out another cry of fear when she saw orange eyes glowing from within

Leapkit looked down at the cat who had just scrambled and fallen in front of him. "Well that was interesting. You drink too much fermented berry juice?" He snickered.
--
Bloodyrose stared down the cat who had scrambled away so quickly. At least they had some sense to start running but she wasn't going to do anything until she got to the bottom of this. Her curiosity overruled her bloodlust... for now.
