Also stop giving kids access to R rated movies/shows and M rated games. They have that rating for a reason.

I remember back in grade 10 or something my teacher took us to see Deadpool (I told him it was rated 18+, he didn't listen lol), and we were 16 or 17 or something. We saw a bunch of 5- or 6-year-olds there. I hear this is common though - parent sees superhero movie, assumes it's for kids, and usually rants afterwards that it was not. I'm sure if there was an Invincible movie, the same thing would happen.
To add onto this, I hate people who are so entitled that they expect the world to revolve around them or their kid. (Ex. "How dare this pg-13 movie exist, everything must be made for Little Timmy / Little Sally!".)

I feel like parenting has also gotten worse in general. So many don't seem to understand how damaging so much online time is and when most places are 13+ the amount of like 8-12 year olds i see with unrestrained internet access is alarming. Especially for someone who was groomed online at that exact age. I know the damage it did to me. If I had larger control over parenting, I honestly wouldn't give my kid online chat/multiplayer/etc privileges until moving up to middle school. Only tv and single player or offline co-op games until then. :v I can't wait until we see the studies showing the immense damage iPad screens do to 1-2 year olds who view them excess amounts every day, if they aren't published already.

Big Pharma. Autism Speaks. Scalpers. The color green; this includes all green food. The worst one of all? Peas, or green beans. I first saw them when I was 6-7 years old, and they immediately triggered a gag reflex in me. To this day I cannot stand the sight of them, nor the smell.

very hyperfixation specific rant nobody will get incoming . but i LOATHE people who hate running with scissors. like yeah i get it postal 4 is a super mid game that needed more time in the oven, but calling rws lazy and saying its WORSE THAN POSTAL 3? like thats just objectively incorrect??? postal 3 is genuinely like one of the worst recieved shooting games of the 2010s if not one of the worst recieved EVER and its the most broken mess ive ever played, and rws is very actively improving postal 4, like they rolled out the dismemberment so quickly? like maybe you should step back and think about how complaining about how garbage postal 4 is with no real criticism other than "its bad and not as offensive as postal 2" isnt going to help develop the game and is probably the reason rws is not listening to you ?? like youre not a fan of postal clearly you literally just like postal 2 because its offensive and you can shoot people 😭

last year our geography teacher let us watch pirates of the caribbian during our free period(anything over G wasn't allowed, but we were all 13-14 and some had seen the movie before so it wasn't that bad) on a actually bad note, i remember being five and watching captain america civil war with someone and crying when someone was waterboarded and killed so yeah that was bad(i don't remember if this was in a movie theater or not)

I think it depends on the child and how parents talk to their child about media? My parents didn’t really restrict anything with me and my siblings in regards to media. Sometimes they would even discuss it with us. I don’t feel like me or my siblings were failed because they let us read books, watch movies, play video games with “adult” themes.

my two cents
1. very young kids should not be in spaces where silence is expected. there is no reason to take your baby to a movie theatre, especially if it's a movie for teenagers/adults.
2. idc what you let your kids watch/play but dont get angry that media aimed at older people isn't child-friendly. its not rockstar's fault that your ten year old is playing grand theft auto. it's your fault lol

It isss dependant on the kids maturity but also, like the term adult theme is so vague. Its about how adult and in what way. Like for example, just pulling from my own memory jak and daxter and god of war were both rated for sexual themes, but i was allowed to play jak and was not allowed to play gow. Because jak was just like, innuendos and silly antics, and gow was like an inch away from straight up ****.

Because jak was just like, innuendos and silly antics, and gow was like an inch away from straight up ****. Not to mention that people's morals on violent versus s***** content differs so wildly from one another, that either belong on their own category of what one can consider mature. S***** content is a very controversial subject within of it self. Violent content meanwhile is a different animal altogether in many respects, with its own spectrum to boot. On one hand you have pixel graphics or games like Minecraft, and on the other you have titles such as 7 Days To Die or God of War which display this content in a far more disturb and visceral manner, and of course there's the entire conversation about morality regarding the obstacle or opponent you are facing. (Ex. Is it "better" or "less problematic" to kill a vampire or a zombie in a video game versus a human being.)
In my opinion, the mature rating should stay as a baseline, but we need a universal visual model on the various spectrums that 'mature' describes. Such an act though might be futile, however, as all of this is largely down to personal preference and morals/ethics. What one might consider "suggestive" another would consider outright ****. Killing a zombie in Minecraft might be the bottom of the barrel for some and might not even consider it to be "violent" at all (despite its nature proving otherwise), while others would struggle to separate it from games or movies that feature vivid and convincing graphics.

To add onto my word salad above, and apologies for derailing the purpose behind this thread for a brief moment, but of course there's also the ethical concerns shared by many regarding how you act in a video game might desensitize or outright reflect the nature of the individual human being behind the screen. Picking on Minecraft again here, let's say you cram 20 cows inside a tiny pen (and continue to breed them with wheat) for the sole purpose of efficient meat and leather production. Does this mean you directly support the unethical practices that are mirrored in the real world? Is it possible for the individual to separate fantasy from reality? If they can do so consciously, what is at play with the subconscious? Should we separate fantasy from reality at all?
Edit: I'll provide a personal example. Whenever I (seldom) play Minecraft, I kill as many cows and chickens early on as possible for their resources. However, if they were to display visual signs of pain, like (I hate using this piece of garbage as an example) the Pals in Palworld, I honestly don't think I'd ever be able to bring myself to bring down that sword. It would feel wrong and make me feel horrible.
I've always been curious why the brain separates fantasy from reality in some aspects. Is the fact our brain can separate reality from fantasy, subconsciously, problematic? Should each person make a conscious effort to combat that? Would it be better, for instance, if you just brushed a chicken and it gave you feathers, versus outright killing it?
TL;DR The "mature" rating comes in many different flavors, each with its own spectrum. Behind all of this come moral/ethic concerns from some individuals, while for other cases it's entirely dependent on one's personal limit. (Ex. One person might see killing a zombie in a game as being immoral or unethical, while for another that internal debate would never register, and instead the enjoyment of their experienced is entirely dependent on whether they can stomach it or not.)

Fair enough. I made a separate post regarding the subject above, if you want to check it out. It largely stems from the philosophical question of "is the fact our brain can create a divide between fiction and reality problematic within itself?", as well as some brain picking.

The last thing I'll say about this subject is while fiction isn't reality, fiction absolutely can affect reality (no-one is immune to propaganda, as the saying goes), and the creation of fictitious content can stem from the creator's own experiences and beliefs.
