Pokémon. It glorifies animal a***e.
Add-on: The same goes for games like Monster Hunter, Palworld. Most people who play those games are probably animal a***ers IRL, just putting that out there. It makes me squirm.

Group projects in school. Even when I get paired with my friends it’s just too socially draining to have to work with others on something so huge and I always feel like I have to take lead in the project because no one else will do shit. Then if it’s people I don’t talk to I literally have no clue how to ask them to actually do crap without coming off as bossy or rude. But also I don’t want to make it seem like I only want me to do the work and no one else to and— uh whatever you guys probably get my point group projects just suck.

Pokemon doesn't make sense but i can agree on monster hunter. The fact that they start actually limping and acting like they are suffering and in pain just makes me extremely upset.

i will admit that palworld crosses the line for me in terms of the animal abuse question bc it actively portrays the pals as being exploited and treated terribly. pokemon emphasises the teamwork and friendship elements and the violence is portrayed in a such a cartoony and non-lasting way (the worst that happens is the pokemon faints and they can be immediately brought back to perfect health) that it doesn't bother me. i think that's why a lot of people are fine with pokemon but games like palworld are more controversial.

Pokémon for me since it introduces children to a very light version of c*ck fighting. (Which, if anyone is unaware, is a cruel sport where two betting sides put two roosters inside a cage to fight to the death.) I'm not saying it raised / is raising a generation of sociopaths, but personally I think it could lead to some developmental issues for at least some kids.
Personally, I just don't get the appeal of sending your pet against someone else's to determine the victor. It just seems cruel, even if it's in their "nature", like if you put a praying mantis in an aquarium with a scorpion, forcing them to do battle out of survival. Yes, the Pokémon cartoonishly faint and can be revived, but that's like sending one creature against another IRL and only stopping the battle once one falls unconscious. Just... no.
Pokémon and Palworld are basically today's version of gladiator arenas. I thought we were past that phase of entertainment. (I also recently learned you can enslave or sell human NPC's in Palworld. How TF is that not talked about more?)
But maybe that's just me.

For Monster Hunter and Palworld, totally 100% my opinions. For Pokemon, maybe I took it a bit far, but I still believe that introducing the concept to people so young mayyyyy not be the best thing in the world (ironically it does so in the most cartoonish and friendly way possible). I don't understand the appeal, but if you're a developed mind playing Pokemon, so long as you can recognize that a real-life equivalent would be wrong, I see nothing wrong with it, to each their own.
Still, if I had to choose, I'd rather kids be exposed to Pokemon any day of the month than FPS games or GTA.

I think the main difference people forget is that pokemon aren't animals, even in the pokemon world because there are real normal animals in the pokemon universe. Pokemon actively like fighting each other and getting stronger and finding trainers that will help them reach their full potential.
basically little creature versions of goku.

Perhaps I should have done my homework then. By "reaching their full potential", I assume the Pokemon are happy, and struggle while in the wild or something? So fighting aside, they're basically the equivalent of finding a stray house cat and raising it in a human household? In which case, I pretty much take everything I said back about it, even if the fighting part, again, I don't understand, but it seems mostly harmless?

Note: Palworld I still condemn 100%. I read a couple of reviews online and apparently, aside from enslaving and hurting the Pals, you can sell them, butcher them, sell their organs at a black market, and do the same for humans? Just... no thank you, not my cup of tea. Monster Hunter is, as far as I know, you just going out, hunting creatures for your own gain, and just like the Pals, show visible signs of pain and distress and fear when you attack them. Again, not my thing at all. Pokemon seems fine then.

More or less yeah, though the series has addressed what happens if a pokemon has an abusive trainer too, or what happens when evil people take control of them: most of the classic evil teams (Team Rocket stealing and using pokemon for profit, Magma/Aqua seeking to control the legendary to "remake" the ecosystem, Galactic trying to control the legendaries to remake the entire universe) with the exception of the more recent ones- the recent gens actually seem to be moving away from showing or hinting at abuse for that very reason. (Team Skull were just people struggling to get by as society's rejects, Team Yell was just an obsessive fanbase for your rival, Team Star is a band of bullied kids that got expelled.) Then there is Team Plasma (like Brooksie posted a picture of one of the antagonists above) Which was literally surrounding the concept of whether or not training or keeping pokemon is animal abuse or not. N argues for whether pokemon have free will and whether capturing them takes away that free will. And the story ultimately culminates in that for the most part, most trainers are good to their pokemon and rely on that partnership that is mutually beneficial. A pokemon gets trained, the trainer gets protection from wild mons that might literally kill and eat you if you didn't.

Green beans and peas are in the same waste bin as tomatoes, pickles, cauliflower, and water chestnuts for me. Evil food that must be destroyed.
