I think we should just try to move things along a little bit, I mean, Shane could find her and question here. Strange, not sure what else to call them, hasn't been on in a while) Shane glanced around but saw nothing move and nothing move. He thought a moment. Even if it was glowing, it may still, somehow, have been an actual girl. He knew that didn't really make any sense, but he had no idea what else to go on besides it being some creature that wanted to kill him; if it was, it probably would have killed him by now, though. His voice softened a bit. "Please come out. I don't want to hurt you, but if you scare me because I found you first, then I don't know I'll do something on reflex. Just come out slowly, and you'll be okay." His eyes scanned the trees again, and he took a few more careful steps forward. Ghostling's glow dulled as she grew more frightened. Poking her head out from behind the tree, she looked for the person calling out to her. The small girl fixed her eyes on the boy searching and created a small speck of light near him and then another and another until she had a small, bright trail leading him to her. She ran a hand through her dirty, black hair and let it rest at the curve of her neck. Willing her glow to grow brighter, she pushed the boundaries of what she was comfortable with and alerted him to her presence.

Shane stiffened instantly, his muscles tensing, at the sight of the first light. Slowly, the trail started to appear before him, and he forced himself to relax, as they were dangers, yet. It definitely looked like a path more than anything. Clutching the knife still, he followed it slowly. Soon, his eyes met with the little glowing girl. They widened and his grip on the knife loosened. A glowing girl?? Very impossible, but, hey, at least it wasn't some kind of monster or something stupid like that, right? He let his body relax and then crouched a few feet from her, putting the knife away for now. "Hey," he said with a much softer tone than before, like he was actually talking to a normal girl. "Was that you I've been hearing?" He looked back at the lights a moment. "Did you do that?"
"Good thing he did," Kayla said, still panting a little. "What was that, though, seriously?" She looked back into the darkened forest, no movement about it other than leaves blowing gently in the nightly wind, eerily. The place she loved so much was no the playground for the unknown... She wanted to go back and see what that thing really was. Maybe kill it. Not now, though. Later, she'd go back by herself.

Ruby frowned. "I have no idea... it grabbed my arm and then the back of my hair. It was most certainly not a ghost. I could feel it." She reached up to touch her hair and almsot gagged. Too. Tons of goo. All in her hair.

"Better hope that washes out," Kayla said with a slightly disgusted frown as well. "And that's it's not toxic to touch..." She herself hadn't touched it, using the bag and scalpel. Well, if anything happened to Ruby, she'd know if it was toxic at least, though, she hoped nothing happened. "I'm gonna have to sneak into the school to get a microscope tomorrow night. Wanna come with? I could probably use the help, and we've got to find out what this stuff is." She really was eager to analyze the sample she had collected.

She was a timid girl and was frightened easily and when she got frightened she tended to turn invisible. Ghostling vanished from sight along with her glow and she looked at him as he talked. It was hesitant but she became visible again and said nothing. She slowly nodded once and then remained still.

Ruby hesitated. "How will we sneak into school? And what if that...that THING comes after us ahain? We might not get so lucky next time!" If getting a head full of crazy goop was really lucky. Opposed to the alternative...it would be.

Shane just barely contained how shocked, and even scared, he was from watching a girl vanish right before his eyes and then reappear. "Um, what's your name?" he asked softly. "I'm Shane, Shane Wolf." What was this girl really, though? Was she really a ghost? She just turned invisible! No way she was real...but even so, spirit or not, he was curious, and the curiosity was getting the better of him in this situation.
"Well, pack a gun, I guess. We will just have to hope that it doesn't come after us again, but if it does, bullets should hurt it since a branch to the face did. Well, if you could call what it had a face... We will simply have to ope. Besides, breaking into school isn't hard. I've done it a couple times. it's just easier with a partner to be on lookout," Kayla said, saying the last bit so nonchalantly, like it was no big deal at all.

Ruby blinked. "You've broken in before?" Then she paused. "I don't have access to a gun. It's locked up in our house and I don't know where the key is." She racked her brain. "The most I have is this knife." She pulled it out of the bag.

"Close combat isn't the best idea in this case, but better than nothing, I guess. I could probably get you a gun, but I need to know if you can shoot a hand gun first," Kayla said and glanced back into the forest. "And if you can aim." She didn't want to gives this girl a weapon and have her completely screw everything up because she didn't know what she was doing. Ruby didn't seem like the type of person to know how to shoot from first glance either, in kayla's opinion anyway.
autocorrect is still bad either way. I use ipad a lot)

(My problem is chubby fingers and small keypad for my phone haha)
Ruby hesitated. Shooting a gun. She hadn't done that in awhile. "Er...okay. do you think that thing had something to do with Charlie's and your dads disappearances?''

My fingers are skinny as heck, but I still have trouble with my phone, too. The keypads really are so dang tiny...)
"I don't know," Kayla answered simply with an added shrug. "Maybe. Either way, I'm going to go to the school to get a microscope and take a look at this goop stuff. I'll run home and grab you a gun first, and you should try and get that gunk out of your hair. meet up at the school then?"

Ruby glanced at her watch. "Sure. What else should I bring?'' The moon was rising high in the sky. The crisp fall air nipped at her fingers as she fumbled with her bracelet nervously.

"Flashlight, just in case, your knife, and a hammer," Kayla told her with a slight smile. She found it a tad humorous how Ruby seemed to be about breaking into their school. "Just be careful on the way home and to school, okay?" Even though they had only met today, going through what they had together, she kind of cared about this girl, like they were already friends. Plus, no one should have to come face to face with that...thing.

Ruby gave a soft smile. "You too." She waved and began trekking back in the direction of her house. She tried to make her feet as quiet as possible. With each blink came the image of the...thing. monster... she decided. It certainly wasn't human. She swallowed, breaking into a cold sweat. Finally after what seemed like hours (but really was only minutes) she reached her house.

Kayla watched her new friend go for a moment before going down the road and then, reluctantly, back into the woods. it was the only way top her house, that, or a small driveway which was surrounded by trees anyway. She used to love the forest so much, especially at night when nothing tainted the natural sounds and beauty of it all, no people or sounds of cars on the near by roads, nothing. Now, the eerie silence was almost dreadful. If it weren't for the sound of chirping crickets and distant peeper frogs, the gir may have lost her mind. Relief washed over her once she reached her house and she unlocked the door, but worry took hold when she found her brother still not home. Did the thing get him? Nah, probably not. I'm just being paranoid...more than usual, she decided and went to her father's bedroom, her parents' room. The door stood before her, a wooden barrier which had not been opened for a month since her father passed. She knew that only sadness and memories which brought such feelings lingered beyond, but so did what she needed. Gathering the courage and quickly building a mental dam to contain her inevitable emotions, she placed her hand on the cold, golden knob then turned it. With a slow creak, the door gradually swung open. darkness enveloped the room, which sent a small shiver up Kayla's spine. What lie within it, waiting for her? She swallowed, her eyes growing huge to adjust, straining to penetrate the black void until her finger flicked on the lights, and she recoiled slightly at the sudden, blinding light. All seemed normal. The bed was still unmade, papers of her father's work -studying government activity mostly - lie scattered across the desk, and some clothes littered the floor still. She pelt a pang in her heart, missing her dad, however crazy he may have been. With a small sigh and shake of her head, she stepped into the room and went to the bedside nightstand and opened the drawer to reveal a small handgun, a simple pistol like she had. This would be good for Ruby to borrow.

No way she was real...but even so, spirit or not, he was curious, and the curiosity was getting the better of him in this situation. Ghostling glanced around and she wanted to speak but she was too frightened. It was taking all of her willpower not to disappear again. She created more specks of light and arranged them to spell 'Ghostling'. She looked at the lights, the brightness illuminating her blue eyes. She glanced at the boy every so often to make sure he didn't try to come near her or anything and she stayed still and unmoving at the base of the tree.

"Ghostling? That's an...interesting name there. How about I just call you Ghost?" It felt for him to call a girl 'Ghostling.' For all he knew, she might have even been a ghost anyway, so 'Ghost' just seemed to fit a bit better for him. "You can just call me Shane. Where are your parents at?" Did she even have parents, if she was even alive? He wanted to touch her so badly, just poke her shoulder or something to see if she was actually real, but he was sure by her expression that if he moved towards her at all she would flee or maybe even attack. he had no idea what she was capable of. Instead, he slowly switched from a crouch to sit down on the forest floor, the dried leaves crunching underneath. They may be there a while, he thought.

Ghost just looked at him as the specks vanished, slowly growing dim before vanishing entirely. She made another speck appear by her and it blinked once for yes. She had done this before after she suddenly just stopped talking. She just didn't feel like opening her mouth and using the effort to make the sounds. She could only do yes or no so after a moment she blinked the light twice for no in answer to the parent question. She looked up at the sky and slowly stood up, placing a hand on the tree to steady herself.

It took Shane a minute to understand, but it finally clicked in his mind. Okay, so no parents... Where did you come from?" he asked next, hoping the girl could answer that as well. He stayed sitting when she stood, but he was ready to get up and give chase if she bolted. No way was he leaving a young girl out here alone and scared, so long as there was a chance she was actually alive and not a wandering spirit. She did look like one, though...
No probs, Elle ^^)

Ruby bolted home as quickly as she could, her bag thumping against her leg. She sloved down as she approached her house. The TV light flickered through the broken blinds in the windows. She didn't hear any yelling...parents must still be asleep. She crept back in the back door.
