Heatherstripe(in camp,open)
Heatherstripe bowed her head as she paid her respects to the fallen warriors along with the rest of her clanmates. 'How could MossClan have done something as terrible as this' Heatherstripe asked herself 'Our warriors did nothing to provoke them'. And even if they had, killing was dishonorable, it was against the code. It would be much more easy to suspect that a band of rouges had done this, but all the evidence pointed to MossClan.

Reedwing (with Greystar, camp) Hawkeyes258The deputy sat quietly for a few moments, turning over Greystar’s words in her mind. Although the gathering was not far off, waiting until then to say anything seemed somehow intolerable to the warrior. And yet, doing anything preemptively seemed wrong as well. Unable to come to a strong decision herself, she nodded in agreement. ‘Until then we should strengthen our patrols along the borders’ she suggested, ‘and only allow warriors and senior apprentices to go.’ She wasn’t about to let Mossclan get off that easy, and her fur bristled at the thought of encountering one of their patrols along the border.

Shadowstep♂ Location; Galeclan Territory With Bristlethorn
lunapaw🐾 Shadowstep nodded quietly at first, "Mossclan's marshy territory can be unforgiving..." he began looking thoughtfully off in the direction of the Marsh. "Tales would have you believe many of Galeclan's own precautions began from the necessities founded in Mossclan, such as having two medicine cats whenever possible." Yes, it was indeed a harsh, unforgiving land, so different from the rolling plains of Galeclan but did he miss it? Only someone truly mad would miss the dangerous swampy territory where even the grass was wet. Yet it was where he was born and raised.
However, her question caused him to stiffen, swinging around to look at Bristlethorn with narrowed eyes, "My loyalty is to Galeclan." he snapped with an irritable snort, his fur bristling as if feeling threatened by the question. Perhaps she'd meant it innocently enough and yet he felt defensive, knowing well there were a fair number of cats early on that believed he'd go crawling back to Mossclan. Was she trying to find confirmation of torn loyalties? Well she would find none here..! BristlethornGaleclan Territory with Shadowstep, Little meow meow The she-cat listened closely with great interest as the tom spoke. She had always wondered what Mossclan was like, and she found it rather fascinating that Shadowstep got to experience it first hand. "That makes sense." She agreed, thinking of their necessities. She looked a bit startled as he snapped back at her all of the sudden, though she shook it off. "I believe you. I never meant to question your loyalty..." She said softly, looking over at him. She appreciated how genuine the tom was, despite his antisocial nature. "I think you're very brave. I probably wouldn't be able to survive in Mossclan." She added thoughtfully.

"I agree." Greystar said with a small nod of his head. He was impressed that Reedwing already had ideas in motion concerning the safety of their clanmates. Should another attack happen, he would go to Mossclan's camp and talk to Stormstar himself. For now, they needed to grieve for their clanmates. Turning away, he watched as more cats began to come out. "Do you have anything else Reedwing?"

Shadowstep♂ Location; Galeclan Territory With Bristlethorn
lunapaw🐾 Shadowstep stared down Bristlethorn for several more moments after her words, as if looking for any cracks to show that she was lying, that she might truly be looking for weakness in him. However, he could find nothing to suggest it and as quickly as his anger had appeared, it seemed to evaporate as his fur lay flat once more. He couldn't begin to understand Bristlethorn's 'angle' so to speak and perhaps that alone was frustrating. Most cats were content to leave him be, the occasional still holding onto pass allegiances to cast suspicion and yet Bristlethorn was claiming she simply sought company. It was difficult for him to wrap his head around.
"Hmph.." The black cat snorted, perhaps almost embarrassed by the praise after his display. Bristlethorn really made no sense to him. "Regardless, Mossclan is far behind behind me. For now, we should probably collect our prey and get back to camp. We may yet be needed and it wouldn't do to be absent in such a case." he explained, though perhaps Shadowstep's true aim was to finally conceed to rest. His muscles were sore and his mind was growing foggy with exhaustion, it didn't help that those strange cats now brought further worry to his mind. Regardless, they'd spent enough time out here. "Would be a shame, and rather ironic, if you missed a hunting patrol due to being out hunting."

( daydreams ok great!) Swiftpaw (in camp with Snaketounge) Swiftpaw was grooming herself at the edge of camp. She was still shocked at what had happened earlier that day, and was restless, wanting to keep her paws busy to distract herself from unwelcome thoughts. She looked around camp for her mentor, Snaketounge, and found her stepping out of the warriors den. 'Snaketounge' she called,' are we going to do anything today?' she asked. By the look in her mentors eyes she could tell that she was still shocked about what had happened earlier as well, maybe she too would welcome the chance to get out of camp.

Kestreltalon (in camp): The ginger tom sat to pay his respects to the fallen cats, nodding respectfully at his deputy as he settled down next to the body of a cat he had been close to. Working to groom the cat's matted, claw-torn fur, Kestreltalon hated to think this would be the last time they would ever share tongues. The sheer volume of the loss seemed unimaginable to him now, staring right into the faces of these brave warriors who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the clan. In a way, he felt upset with himself that he hadn't been there too, ready to defend the clan with these unfortunate souls. "Maybe, just maybe", he thought, "If I had been there things would have been different". He quickly pushed the thought from his mind. There was no use in wondering now, what's done is done. All he could do was stare helplessly at these cats, his friends and comrades, and ask StarClan why. The emotions started to build up: grief, regret, hopelessness, and then just anger, a burning rage deep inside his chest which he had no outlet for. Kestreltalon kneaded the ground, sheathing and unsheathing his claws. The cats who did this will pay, if I can be sure of one thing it's that someone will suffer for the suffering they've caused my clan.

Reedwing (with Birchheart, camp) Little meow meow Padding gently across camp, Reedwing nodded to Kestreltalon as she passed him and then made her way over to join Birchheart where he sat, giving him a soft touch on the cheek as she sat down beside him. The two had been friends since the tom was made a warrior many moons ago, and she always found herself seeking comfort and advice from him during difficult times. She sat in silence for a few moments and gazed sadly at her clanmates. She still couldn't believe that Mossclan would do such a thing, they'd had problems before, but this...? Something didn't seem right. Finally she spoke; 'Starclan will welcome these brave cats into their ranks as noble warriors' she mewed softly to Birchheart, her grief now fully apparent in her voice.

Kestreltalon (camp):
The older warrior looked up from his grief stricken state to see a disheartening site: one of the apprentices seeing the carnage for the first time. Kestreltalon felt a sinking feeling in his heart. Out of anyone, this will effect the young cats the most. He remembered how unsure and impressionable he was in his apprentice days, and felt sure that something as senseless as this would confuse and frighten a cat their age.

Shadowstep♂ Location; Galeclan Territory With Bristlethorn
lunapaw🐾 Despite his previous hostility, perhaps part of Shadowstep had enjoyed the company more than he'd like to admit, and certainly far more than he would think he deserved. Yet, even he was not without weakness and with exhaustion looming over him and the sun high in the sky, he felt a desperate need for some rest. It truly wouldn't do for Bristlethorn to risk missing a hunting patrol on his account either, assuming she was assigned for one. He hardly paid attention to hunting patrol assignments on a good day, but it wasn't as if he imagined Reedwing had prepared further hunting patrols yet anyway.
"Perhaps you'll even get sent out with a cat who actually slept this morning." he snorted, his tone almost bordering on playful but ever subdued by his grumpier disposition. "And I might not be opposed to your company again in the future." with those words, Shadowstep returned the direction they came, heading for the few kills they'd managed that morning. Birchheart♂ Location; Galeclan Camp With Reedwing
blu Birchheart had remained quiet after the leader had left, observing the bodies with a silent vigilance, defeat weighing down his broad shoulders. To see those who grieved for the loss as well made his heart sink further, knowing well enough there was little anyone could do to ease the pain -- least of all the pain of unjustified deaths. The large ginger wasn't exactly a fan of violence as it was, but he certainly couldn't blame his clanmates for their anger and their desire for vengeance, even he was not immune to the desire to see justice done. Especially after being one of those that had brought the bodies back from the scene of the massacre. Perhaps it was with kindness he was pulled from his thoughts by the approach of the clan's deputy, his dear friend Reedwing, pressing against her gently as she sat beside him. Whether it was him offering comfort or seeking it was anyone's guess, but maybe he hoped it came acrossed as both.
The tom nodded softly in response to Reedwing's words, "Indeed, they will.. and let their courage grant us the strength and wisdom to see to it their sacrifices weren't made in vain." Although he couldn't say he'd had a particularly strong bond with any of those that lay before them, Birchheart was no less affected by the deaths of his clanmates. After all, he still had known them, and it was painfully easy to imagine those he was closer to among the bodies of the fallen. His eyes moved from the bodies to his companion, sympathy in his gaze, "How are you holding up, though? I can't imagine this being any easier for you."

Reedwing (with Birchheart, camp) Little meow meowReedwing breathed a sigh of relief as her friend pressed close to her, warmth flooding her body as she thought about how grateful she was that Birchheart wasn't among the cats lying in the clearing. She couldn't imagine her life without the gentle ginger tom, the lovable giant he was. She would have been completely lost without his calm-headed personality, as she often became overwhelmed by her responsibilty as deputy of the clan. At the warrior's words about sacrifice, she bristled slightly with a renewed sense of injustice. It was against the warrior code to kill others without proper reason, and she couldn't imagine a situation wherein the patrol had given the rival clan reason enough to engage in a fight to the death. She was dragged out of her thoughts by Birchheart's concern, and took a few moments to collect herself again. 'I feel like I should be doing more,' she began slowly, trying not to let her voice shake, 'and I feel like I should be stronger for the clan, but I'm just so confused and unsure,' she admitted vulnerably, not used to expressing her thoughts this openly - especially since she'd been made deputy a few moons before. She turned to Birchheart, desperate for some sort of advice.

Birchheart♂ Location; Galeclan Camp With Reedwing
blu Certainly Birchheart couldn't help wishing he'd been there to fight with his clanmates, but there was still a part of him glad that neither he nor those he was closest with lay among the fallen. This thought alone brought on him a wave of shame as if disrespecting his fallen clanmates and shredding his own honor as a warrior with them. Was it truly wrong to be grateful for ones own life when the alternative was a death like this? Only Starclan could answer that question and he'd surely never heard a word from them. There was surely no way he could know how heavily Reedwing felt she depended on him, after all, to him she was as deserving as her position of clan as Greystar was as leader. He couldn't say he envied the responsibilities she'd been saddled with, but he firmly believed she was well suited for it and deserved the honor of the position.
Nevertheless, he listened quietly to the concerns of his dear friend, his expression as calm and gentle as ever as he slowly nodded with attentiveness. He was grateful that Reedwing felt she could trust him with her vulnerabilities, and certainly wasn't about to betray that trust. Surely they all felt similarly, a sense of helplessness without even the most menial comforts of why this happened. "I think we all feel like we should be doing more, like we should have done more... but there was nothing more any of us could have done. Not even you or Greystar himself." he paused, looking somberly upon the fallen once more, "It's no more a crime for you to be rattled by this than it would be for any other warrior. I'm sure the others would say the same and perhaps there is a tragic comfort in that solidarity." Regardless of position in the clan, they were all clanmates, all cats, and the pain they felt was something they could all experience and relate to. He hoped that the knowledge her supposed weakness could be a comforting strength to those also suffering could bring her some peace, though he knew even that was easier said than done.
"We may not understand why this happened now, and may even be equally powerless to change the past, but we do have the power to learn why it happened and see that we are better prepared to prevent it occuring again." The large ginger spoke with a hopeful tone despite the sadness of what lay before them, "And if there is anything I can do to help you, you need only ask." He could only imagine the stress and anxiety sand-colored cat felt, now the only deputy of Galeclan, and he would gladly fight starclan itself if she had asked it of him. He softly pressed his head against her shoulder in a gentle nuzzle of comfort before glancing back at her with soft eyes, "Besides, I imagine Greystar already has some ideas in mind. It can't take away what happened but if Mossclan did had anything to do with it, I'm certain Greystar wont rest until Stormstar pays for it."

Featherpaw♀ Location; Galeclan Camp With kestreltalon
Dawnrise From the hollow of the Medicine Cat's den stood the puffed up form of a very frighten Featherpaw, her eyes wide as she took in the scene of the dead cats in absolute shock. With all the commotion and the absence of her mentor at that time, the young cat had taken it upon herself to see what had happened and had hardly expected the grisly sight, let alone all the mournful cats gathering around. She hardly had the training to know how to approach this situation, although she wasn't sure there was much training to be had for dealing with the inevitability of death. As she slowly seemed to regain some composure, the young apprentice scanned the bodies laid out, as if seeking someone in particular, and though her shoulder's sagged heavily she didn't seem to grow more distressed by what she saw.
However, her gaze did fall upon the grieving form of her uncle, a look of pity in her eyes. She did not particularly grow close to those who associated with her family by default, but she could surely empathize with the loss. Yet it was her own uselessness that clutched coldly at her chest. There was nothing even the greatest Medicine cat could do about those that had already passed on, let alone a simple apprentice who'd barely begun training, nothing more but wish them well on their journey to starclan. However, alarm still sounded in her head as she frantically scanned the camp clearing, her paws moving on their own until she had accidentally bumped into Kestreltalon. "S-Sorry.." she muttered absently, not even able to tear her eyes from her search to see who or what she'd bumped into. Firepaw♂ With neither hide nor hair of an apprentice's training group forming that morning, the deputy in charge of that for the day had been missing along with the dawn patrol, the ginger form of Firepaw had set out of camp to do some practicing on his own. He could have sought out Reedwing to ask her about it, but he hardly felt as if he were in the position to approach the active deputy in camp over something as selfish as his own training. As far as he was aware, Galeclan's territory had been fairly peaceful and he didn't intend to wander TOO far away. The young apprentice just wanted to get some kind of practice in and there was hardly a rule saying apprentices couldn't leave camp alone. Even so, by the time he stopped, he'd found himself among the fragrant plants and herbs of the Heather Beds.
Nevertheless, despite some odd scents and stranger sightings on the way, Firepaw felt it had been a pretty normal day -- absolutely unaware of the tragedy currently being suffered back in camp. He couldn't say his hunting had born any results, but practice was practice. It was frustrating to be unsuccessful, but it was simply the learning curve relative to being an apprentice and he was taking that in stride the best he could. However, being among the sickly-sweet fragrances was throwing him off quite a bit and he knew any attempts at continuing hunting here would likely be for naught, well, that and he had to remember to tell his mother somethign when he returned home. The problem now presenting itself before him was that he'd grown a bit.. uh, disoriented and wasn't able to find the scent leading him out of the thick bunches of flowering plants. He was rather lost.

Kestreltalon turned to the worried apprentice: "It's alright, Featherpaw, it was an accident" he said, catching her gaze stuck on the body of one of the victims. One of her kin in fact, not a brother or sister, but still. Kestreltalon felt sick thinking of how many others in camp would feel the same way tonight. How many would be losing a loved one too soon without explanation, without warning. "I-uh," he stuttered, clearing his throat. He always felt at a loss for words at times like these. Taking a deep breath he started again. "Would you like to sit vigil with me? I know it may seem morbid, but I like to think the fallen appreciate one last send off before..." he suggested, trailing off. "Well, I suppose I shouldn't be making assumptions about things like that anyways. The likes and wants of our ancestors must be more your area of expertise."

Featherpaw♀ Location; Galeclan Camp With Kestreltalon
Dawnrise The familiar voice of Kestreltalon seemed to pull Featherpaw out of her stupor, finally registering she'd run into him specifically. "Ah, Uncle Kestreltalon.." she murmured, her wide eyes turning to the ginger colored tom, "I, well, yes, that's appropriate but..." she seemed to be struggling to get out what she was trying to express without seeming inconsiderate. She was relieved to see her mother, Wisteriaflower, leaping down into the clearing some distance away, at least putting that concern at ease and yet someone was still missing.
"L-Listen.. you haven't seen Firepaw, have you?" she managed to sputter out, her anxiety certainly flustering the young cat more than one might have expected from a Medicine Cat's Apprentice. Although there was no sign of the ginger apprentice among the bodies, his absence was greatly worrying Featherpaw knowing now that a threat out there was powerful enough to take down a whole patrol. A single apprentice would hardly stand a chance against a threat like that if he ran into them, though she was perhaps jumping to conclusions. Toadpaw♂ Toadpaw had spent that morning nestled quietly within a crook to the far side of the camp, the remnants of an earlier meal tucked off to the side behind him. He'd spent the day resting quietly there, his head on his paws and remained fairly unnoticed by his clanmates, which is was not particularly upset by. However, as the dead cats were drug in, The apprentice had awoken with wide startled eyes. By the time everything had settled into the heavy atmosphere of mourning, the long limbed tom had sunken back further, his fur puffed up and his ears flat. He remained silent, unwilling to approach the scene initially, and couldn't help but wish he'd remained in his mossy nest that morning. He remembered seeing his father that morning, and yet he couldn't help but fear seeing the long limbed black body among the bodies. After all, he'd seen a number of bodies crumpled and dead that once belonged to those he cared for.
Perhaps it was this fear that caused the slender tom to slowly and tentatively return to his paws, pushing himself upright. Refusing to look upon the clearing, he inched around the edge of the camp until the opening of the Apprentice's den lay but a few tail lengths ahead of him and then made a dash for it, slipping easily in the den. Within the comforting darkness, he pushed his way to the far back and half buried himself in the moss, hoping he might just wake from this to find he had just had a bad dream.

Crowpaw sat at the entrance of the apprentice's den, taking in the sight of the clan before him. The openness of the sky and the scents of the many unfamiliar cats still overwhelm him, but that's okay, he'll adjust. He always did. It had been only a few sunrises since he join the clan and was given his new name, so he was very much an outsider. Still without a mentor, he was confined to camp and the young tom was restless. After a quick wash of his paws, Crowpaw stood up and padded around the camp. The gray tom paused, seeing an apprentice by himself, Toadpaw if he remember his name correctly. He stared at him, hesitant to approach for conversation, but decided to walk past him and continued to explore his new home.
