He had to tell himself that Thorneyes probably wasn't going after his loyalty in that moment, that he wasn't his sister regardless of blood. Although his posture grew more rigid, he took a deep breath before formulating a proper answer. "I've had no notable contact with Mossclan for over ten moons." he stated directly, alluding to when he had left the clan all together, "So, I can't say I have any idea why they'd attack so aggressively all of a sudden, supposing it was them." Although it wasn't the answer he thought the younger tom would like, it was what the black tom had to offer.
Despite the difficulty many had that he could cut away from his birth clan as he had, he didn't feel he had much there to leave behind anyway. A cold mother and and equally cold story to tell but that was all. Even so, he doubted for many that it was the difficulty to believe he would leave, and rather anger that he had proved he could. "With Starclan's blessing, we may find out the answer during the gathering." he added as they continued through the territory. Perhaps another part of him simply didn't want to bring a bias into the situation, one born of tragedy that was not necessarily Mossclan's fault as a whole. |

 Thorneyes felt a sense of discomfort roll off of Shadowstep with his question, and he cursed himself slightly for being insensitive. Of course the tom wouldn't appreciate him bringing up his past- he was a loyal Galeclan warrior. Thorneyes was sure it already difficult enough to integrate himself into Galeclan life, what with the many tragedies he had faced. He didn't need other cats constantly bringing up his past. Still, Thorneyes knew that he was the most reliable resource on what Mossclan might be thinking, and with the past few days being as tumultuous as they had been, he didn't think the question was all that unwarranted. "I didn't think you had contact with them." Thorneyes protested, backpedaling on his words slightly and hoping Shadowstep could see he wasn't accusing him of treason. "I was just thinking you of all cats might know if that's in their nature. I never thought so until now, but I don't know what other answer there could be." Thorneyes flattened his ears on his head, feeling a bit silly. "Sorry, I know that was a rude question., and I shouldn't have asked it I just.... I wish this was all over with. I wish Robinflame and the rest were still alive. I wish we had answers." He sighed, the deep ache from the tragedies returning to his chest once more.

Sandstrike slowly rises to her paws and begins to groom her fur. She might as well make herself look a little more presentable.
Greystar begins to walk around the camp mostly to keep his paws moving and to see what his clanmates were up too. He hoped to overhear snippets of conversations to see what his clanmates were talking about.

Even so he couldn't stiffle a lash of his tail behind him, as he heard out the younger tom's inquiries. It was a line of thought many cats were likely to have given recent tragedies, Shadowstep being the closest to a Mossclan cat that Galeclan had ever spent extended time with, if one could call Shadowstep's distance any kind of reoccurring kinship. "I've no more intrinsic knowledge of Mossclan's current thought patterns than anyone else. The mossclan from my memories would not needlessly kill, this much I know." he paused with an indignant snort before calming himself once more, "But things change in sudden, unexplained ways... Liontail's death alone is proof of how little we understand what happens during border disputes." Even so, a mistake during a border dispute was far different from what had happened this time... but the black warrior was in no position to debate the what ifs and nuances of differing murder cases.
"My answers may bring you no peace of mind, but for now we can only be patient. Trying to theorize or guess will only breed more animosity and uncertainty before the gathering..." The tom added with a noteable sigh. It had certainly brought him no peace to know Galeclan had lost three skilled warriors in but a day, but he could only imagine the tragedy for cats like Thorneyes who were born Galeclan. |
