Frogblaze »
There was one question running continuously through Frogblaze’s mind - was saving Lilysong and Cloudburr worth it? The pair were fine warriors both, but did Frogblaze and Tumblefawn need to risk their lives for their sake? The Clan didn’t need yet another change in deputy so soon, and there wasn’t another cat out there suited for the position as much as Frogblaze was. But a glance toward Tumblefawn had the molly realize that she couldn’t just abandon Lilysong and Cloudburr. She was sure whatever relationship she would have with Tumblefawn would be ruined if she left two Clanmates to die.
Shaking her fear and resistance away, the young molly quickened her pace until she was running forward. ”Hey!” She called out, voice a growl. Cloudburr and Lilysong wouldn’t be far if they had heard a yelp, and as Frogblaze continued the silhouette of the cabin was coming into view. ”Need help?”

Lilysong
When Cloudburr pounced, Lilysong felt her heart leap into her throat. Eyes wide, she looked back in the direction of camp, but knew she couldn't just leave her companion here by himself. "I'm not leaving you!" She replied, her voice strained and high pitched as she circled the tom and the thrashing rattlesnake.
"I think I can sneak behind its head and bite it if you hold it still..." she eeked out, crouching down to prepare to strike. But then she heard the sound of Frogblaze calling out to them. "Over here!" The brown molly yowled, hoping the deputy and whoever was with her would get here, and fast. But she didn't know how much longer Cloudburr could keep the snake still, so she launched into action and bit the snake just behind the head as hard as she could, praying to StarClan that that would be enough to kill the threat.

"That would be - huhh - ideal," they huffed. Sagevale swiped a paw over their nose, trying to clear their nose, but only accidentally shoving a bit of dust into it instead. "Perhaps someone could drop off the prey we already caught? I'm sure some cats in camp would enjoy that meal." The lilac point winced at their nasal tone. They nodded towards the rock they'd put their prey under, hoping one of the two would agree. Also it would be hard to work with all the prey in the open, with coyotes about and willing to take a bite out of a cat, they thought. Better safe than sorry.

He got up to stand beside Goosepaw, making sure to position himself so that there would be no way any intruder would be able to get to camp without running into either cat. He crouched as well, making sure to keep his eyes on both "attackers" - he hadn't done battle training with any other cat besides his mentor for a bit, it was going to be pretty tough to actually figure out fighting styles. But that's what training's for! he thought, fur prickling in anticipation.

He gave a squeak before scrambling to his paws. Shaking the dust off his fur, he sized up the other cat - he didn't look like he was in for a fight. This Rocky character appeared to be pretty relaxed, at the very least.
"Oh - hello," he called in reply. "Was I on your territory?" He vaguely remembered someone demanding to put that rump down...? "I didn't mean to trespass."

Dustflame »
Just because he was named after dust didn't mean he liked it, and right now, the breeze was kicking up too much of it for his liking.
Dustflame lowered his head to keep his eyes and nose down from the wind. Coyotestorm had a point in his words - if they decided to keep hunting they needed to head somewhere with a bit more cover. They needed to head away from the rocky hills and back toward the foliage-dense valley. He had no qualms in continuing their hunt, but his large ears swiveled in interest toward Sagevale as the warrior brought up a valid suggestion.
He raised his tail to signal toward himself. "I'll bring the prey back to camp. I'm sure Coyotestorm would rather stay out here and keep hunting." He never mentioned that the dust was getting to be too much for him, and he made sure it wasn't even implied in his words. Though what he said wasn't wrong, and it was soon backed up by the younger warrior himself.
Coyotestorm nodded. "I've got a lot more prey to catch. AridClan won't be going hungry tonight!" He exclaimed proudly, standing tall only to soon duck his head down, a sneeze tremoring through his body. The pointed warrior then shook his head, stepping back with a frown at the display.
Looking back to Sagevale, Dustflame asked, "Are you okay with that?" Dustflame respected the lilac point feline. They were sensible, had a good head on their shoulders, and the last thing he wanted to do was put Sagevale into a position that they were uneasy in. Coyotestorm was something of an immature warrior, but perhaps keeping him in a pair with a hard worker such as Sagevale would make for an even more successful hunt. After all, despite his earlier antics, Coyotestorm had still managed to stay on track and bring down a decent sized rock squirrel. Even still he wanted to check in with Sagevale and make sure these arrangements were acceptable.

Prickletooth — camp — with Orangesky — mentions: Spiderfur Prickletooth smirked at Orangesky as he heared her snickers, amused by his friend's reaction. He felt rather cherished by the orange tabby who defended him against the grumpy, pathetic Spiderfur. He didn't mind it one bit as it was Orangesky. Any cat other than her, he would have a good set of words for them. Although Spiderfur managed to get underneath his skin, he wanted to irk the older warrior some more. He loathed when another cat could ruffle his fur. Plus, Spiderfur didn't deserve to get away with this easily. He went after Orangesky too in a rude manner. What he wanted was a small bite of revenge.
Now that the orange she-cat had gathered their prey to share, the cream tabby tom settled down next to her. He was hungry and maybe the quail would convince Orangesky into going with his plans. He brushed his nose across the prey's feathers before glancing up when his friend spoke. "He got underneath our skin and I don't like that," he mewed, his gaze set on Spiderfur briefly. "Why not get some revenge after we finish our meal? Or would you prefer to do something else, Orangesky?"
There was little wiggle room for Orangesky. Prickletooth's green gaze shifted to her, giving a mischievous grin. He wanted to be as convincing as possible. "It's nothing rash or cruel," he added, continuing his speech. "He was wrong to disrespect us and that old lump didn't bother to apologize for it. The least we can do is return the favor." She blinked at Acaciapaw and Goosepaw, a ghost of a smile fluttering across her muzzle at their obvious excitement. While Shypaw's own excitement was more subdued. The other mentor's might not be here but Cowtail was right there and she wanted to please him by showing how much she had learned these past few moons.
Shypaw stifled a giggle at the ear's comment.
Then the light brown molly shifted into a more serious mindset as Cowtail explained the session to the four apprentices. Her amber gaze flickering to the defenders with not-so-fun butterflies fluttering in her stomach. Bluepaw and I got this, she thought.
Shypaw took a deep breath. Crouched, claw flex into the ground for good measure, glancing at Bluepaw before launching herself towards Goosepaw, aiming for the gray apprentice's back since he was larger than her.

Tumblefawn — Abandoned Cabin — with Frogblaze mentions — Lilysong & Cloudburr Tumblefawn realized that Frogblaze was much quicker than they were. Their gangly limbs provided little to no speed as they almost tripped over their paws several times. It was not their best attempt at trying to be fast, but there wasn't much they could do about it. Frogblaze, Cloudburr, and Lilysong needed them now, not later.
The fawn tabby increased their speed as the deputy called out to Lilysong, who responded with a yowl. Things did not sound good which made the cat's yellow-green eyes widen. StarClan, don't let it be a coyote, they thought, noticing that Lilysong wasn't speaking to them anymore. Was she trying to fight off a coyote or a different kind of beast?
"We're coming!" they called out to the warriors, hoping for a response.
They were quite close to their clanmates and Tumblefawn could see Lilysong's reddish-brown coat. It appeared she was trying to... bite something? Confused, the pale cat glanced fretfully at Frogblaze for several moments. They didn't bother to ask a stupid question and chose to let the deputy handle the situation with Tumblefawn in tow. They would do anything asked of them by Frogblaze at this point.

"Exactly," Tawnyface nodded, a mock serious expression on his face and pointedly said, incase any wandering ears were listening, "We are going to be very busy out in the territory, y'know, patrolling." They just had to get there first.
Tawnyface followed Dawnfire out of camp in a calm fashion, his eyes lit up with amusement as his friend darted to the exit. He had to show some decorum; however his amber eyes shone impishly. Once they got out of camp, he let out a loud holler and took after Dawnfire, kicking up sand as the tom pushed himself into a fast sprint towards the ranch. The lean tom expertly ducking and weaving around the scattered bush. "Ha! It isn't going to be me," he panted with laughter, "Beetles are nasty."

A flash of warmth brewed in Silversparrow's chest as he watched Pigeonclaw... should have called her Pigeonfeather, he thought, taking note of the scattered feathers. Most of them were lying around the molly; however a few seem to have lodged themselves in her fur. He reached over absently to swipe them off with a low chuckle.
He let out a hmm, his thoughts drifting back to the den they just left recently. The nursery was spotless, especially the unspoken rule that Pigeonclaw should stay close to camp, with the kits' due day coming closer and closer and the increased coyote sightings.
Silversparrow let out a soft snort as he glanced at his mate's swollen belly. He had seen pregnant mollies before, it was different when it was someone you were close to, "What are you thinking? There has to be at least four," he mused, reaching to place a paw gently on her side of her belly, and laughed gently, "We are going to be so busy." He was always fascinated by the movement that followed, instinctively purring as his kits greeted him. It was a sweet thought that they knew he was near; whether it was true or not didn't seem to dull the tom's mood. "Maybe he could shed some light on we should what to expect to happen in next moon," Silversparrow mused, this was their first litter. They were doing fine so far; but the first moon was easy beyond the increased appetite.

"Oh, yeah, duh. Why would we race on beetles that was, heh, so stupid." Asterthorn idly kicked a pebble that was by her paws, clearly embarrassed when Dawnfire called her out on her misunderstanding. "Obviously we'd race the horses, I knew that." She rolled her eyes, not at anyone in particular, mainly at herself. It was a silly thought to begin with, she should've known that. She was just grateful that no one had made fun of her, yet.
She looked to Tawnyface as he suggested getting a move on, then her head turned to Dawnfire as she voiced her agreement. Her excitement piqued again and she hoped that her grandparents might be around, it'd been some time since she got to see them. Asterthorn was sure they'd flood her with questions about Pigeonclaw and her pregnancy, and then also hound her to get the queen to visit them as well. Though, the likelihood of her sister leaving camp felt slim, but she's sure their mother would happily sneak her out.
Lost in thought, she nearly missed Dawnfire's exclamation until the white and ginger tabby had raced past her. Eat beetles? No way! Not having as much grace as Tawnyface, Asterthorn ran out of camp as well. "C'mon Palesand!" She called out over her shoulder. If there was anyone who was going to win, it had to be her. The molly was confident that she could get to the ranch with her eyes closed. Pushing hard off her back legs, Asterthorn quickly took the lead, but her friends weren't far behind. ————- ☀ ————- Orangesky with Prickletooth; mentions Spiderfur camp @ Sand Prickletooth made a very compelling argument, and her ears perked when he proposed that they get their revenge after breakfast. Now, that she wouldn't mind, even if she thought it might be best to ignore Spiderfur. But, it was hard to deny her oldest friend. He always had her back, so she had to have his. No one could persuade her as easily as Prickletooth could. Her siblings were a close second.
Orangesky watched as he nosed over the quail, wondering if he would take the first bite. With a twitch of her tail-tip, the orange tabby finally gave in with a small nod. "Sure, alright. What did you have in mind?" She asked, reaching out to scoot the quail closer to her. If Prickletooth wasn't going to eat it first, then she would. After picking off most of the feathers, she took a moderately-sized bite out of their meal before passing it back to her friend, already feeling like she was in a better mood.
"If you've got a plan then it wouldn't be smart to keep me in the dark. I have no doubt that it's clever, seeing as it was your mind that came up with it." Even though she was trying to be helpful, and it might've been a better choice not to leave him alone, Cloudburr could still feel some frustrations bubbling up at Lilysong's insistence to stay. The white tom was struggling to keep the rattle snake down, it was starting to slip and twist from under his paws. "What? No! Just-... Just stay back, please." He wouldn't dare keep his eyes off the snake, otherwise he might've stolen a look towards Lilysong. They had to deal with the situation somehow, but his mind and heart were racing too fast to be able to focus.
Then, like a miracle sent from StarClan themselves, the familiar voices of clanmates rang out. Cloudburr couldn't tell who they were just yet, but relief flooded his body knowing that he and Lilysong weren't alone. He briefly looked up when the brown she-cat called out in return, making their presence known. Unfortunately, his previous warning fell on deaf ears as he watched her strike, fangs sinking into the back of the snake's head.
Despite being heavier than the rattler, it's urgent writhing managed to throw the white tom off, unable to keep a hold on its slender scales. His paws scrambled to try and pin its body down again, but it was proving to be difficult. "Woah, woah! Lilysong!" Alarm persisted in his tone, moreso warning the molly to get away if she could. She would probably be fine if she stayed behind the rattlesnake, but it was rightly enraged at this point. If she didn't kill it, it could find a way to strike back. Mistystorm had her tongue stuck halfway out, grooming herself when Cherryfrost burst into camp with a sense of alarm. The blue point molly had narrowly missed her mate before he was off with a gaggle of apprentices following behind him, tempted to chase after him, but he could take care of himself. So, instead she had decided to take care of her bed fur and then go check up on her daughter, Pigeonclaw, before being distracted by Cherryfrost's urgent cry. Alarm made the fur on her back rise and she was on her paws just as the fluffy black-and-white she-cat was racing out of camp.
"Where was he last? Do we need to go and help him?" Mistystorm asked when she finally caught up, glancing back down the camp's entrance to see if anyone else was following her. She wouldn't blame her clanmates if they were still fearful of coyotes, Russetnose's death still felt fresh, but that didn't mean it should keep them from coming to another warrior's aid. "Are you hurt at all?" She added after a moment, quickly sniffing over Cherryfrost for any injuries. Should they go and get Sandyhawk as well? Mistystorm was torn on what needed to be done first.

Maize With Goldenstrike - 𝐸𝓁𝑜𝓆𝓊𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒟𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂𝑒𝓇 mentions: domino, wilder, & the whole clan fam Amusement flashed across Maize's face as Goldenstrike sounded out her name. "It's a name for a type of that plant that twolegs and barn animals eat," she explained with a light shrug. She wasn't too bothered basically being named corn. She had the name that Lisa and her kits had given her since she's been here and it was apart of her now, just like the birth name her mother had given her. "My twolegs gave it to me," Maize went onto explain, then paused at the question and saw the tom starting to shift.
Silently watching as the tom reached out his paw to ding the bell hanging from her collar. Maybe shouldn't she be trusting, Domino wouldn't be pleased if he was here. He always said Maize was too trusting. In her defense, if the tom was threat. She would be dead already. Here she was still breathing. Ha.
Maize wrinkled her nose at the chiming noise. She might be used to it. She gave the tom a incredulous look, "It is called a bell," she explained once again. Poor dear he doesn't get out much. Then she shook her head again so it would make it chime sound once again since it seemed to bring the golden tabby some enjoyment. She truly did like making others happy. "I don't really hunt that much," she admitted with a sheepish smile, "My twolegs get my food for me." It was much easier than following scent trails.. and after that incident a few moons ago, she had to wear a collar outside now. Domino and Wilder had taught her how to hunt of course... but it wasn't something she needed to do for her survival.
"That's a mouthful," Maize decided for the honest route. She always wondered why Aridclan has such weird names. Some of them were pretty she could admit like Mistystorm's name but they were so lengthy. "Hmmm a warrior you say? Is that fun?" she asked, her amber eyes quizzical. It couldn't be that much fun in her opinion, since she didn't see Cowtail and the rest of his family that often. And it's been moons since she had seen Pigeonclaw, she hoped that the gray molly was okay.

Cowtail »
As the four apprentices readied themselves for the training to begin, Cowtail shifted himself further away next to a nearby shrub. He was still visible to the apprentices, but he wanted to give them more room to practice their skills and to play this beneficial game of pretend. He was merely an observer, only there to step in if something went wrong. He also kept himself on alert, not daring to let his guard down. Coyotes had not been spotted this close to camp, but their presence out in the territory was enough to keep the former ranch cat on edge. The last thing he wanted was for any of these apprentices to get hurt. Or worse.
Shaking that thought away he went to observe the apprentices. Even though the mock battle had just started it was already clear to the warrior that they each had their own way of battle; there were some similar moves between the young group, but the differences were noticeable enough to Cowtail that he found it quite interesting. He was curious to see how this session would end and how each of the apprentices would hold their ground.
Pigeonclaw »
So engrossed in the meal Pigeonclaw didn't even notice the feathers that had clung to her pelt only for Silversparrow to gently pull off. She continued taking a few more bites before swallowing her mouthful down, nudging the bird toward her mate so that he could get in a few bites before she ended up eating the entire meal. The last thing she wanted to do was to have Silversparrow go hungry, though even after the amount she had just swallowed down she was sure she could continue eating for a while yet, perhaps even until the quail was gone.
Pigeonclaw settled herself in a more comfortable position, shifting the weight on her paws. Her whiskers twitched with affection as Silversparrow placed a paw gently against her swollen flank. He was the only cat she'd let do that - any other cat would lose their ears if they tried touching her. Sandyhawk was allowed to if the medicine cat needed to check her over, but not even her family was allowed to touch her stomach in her current state. "Four's a lot," she replied with a thoughtful look crossing her features. "But I'd say four. Our paws will be busy, but we'll have help. Mistystorm and Cowtail had to deal with both me and Asterthorn as kits, I'm sure they'd have a lot of advice to give." With the kits' arrival inching closer every day Pigeonclaw realized that asking her parents for tips would be a good idea. She'd have to do that soon. It seemed like every two seconds she thought of yet another thing she needed to do before the kits arrived; it was both exhausting and exciting all at the same time.
Under her mate's paw the molly shifted on her paws yet again, his touch stirring the unborn kits. More often than not she had been feeling their movements, sometimes a welcomed sensation and other times not so much. Pigeonclaw was grateful that they seemed to be healthy, but she found it a nuisance when they wouldn't allow her to sleep, especially when she needed to be getting as much sleep as she could before they arrived. "Let's go see if he's busy after we're done eating, then," the queen decided with a nod. A sly, amused look twinkled in her gaze as she added, "And now if any cat tries to take you for a patrol you can tell them you need to see Sandyhawk. You're stuck with me today."

Frogblaze »
Frogblaze rushed forward, no longer letting her hesitation hold her back. She only stopped when Lilysong and Cloudburr both came into view, the tom clearly struggling with something while Lilysong jumped back into whatever fray was occurring. Frogblaze stood where she stopped, expecting to see a coyote at any moment, yet neither sight nor scent of a canine came to her. All she could see was the two warriors scuffling with something that was much closer to the ground than a coyote ever would be.
Confusion replaced the fear that had gripped her earlier. It took a few moments more before the molly realized what exactly was going on, the sound of a rattle coming to her.
”Rattlesnake,” she whispered breathlessly. One bite from such a reptile could easily kill a cat. Frogblaze had been warned many times over to steer clear from these venomous snakes, and she wasn’t about to start getting close to them now. ”Stay where you are,” she mewed quietly to Tumblefawn, sticking her tail out in front of the warrior as a barrier - not that she was afraid they would actually race in to attempt wrangling the snake. There wasn’t much the two of them could do other than keep their distance.
It wasn’t long before a thought crossed her mind, something she remembered Yuccatail telling her back during her apprenticeship. Rattlesnakes didn’t attack unless they were extremely provoked, and they weren’t the kind of snakes that would chase after an enemy, either. That had to mean that Lilysong and Cloudburr had to have practically stepped on the snake for it to be the threat that it was right now. The molly flattened her ears, eyes narrowing as she snapped her head upward and barked a sharp command, ”Jump away from its head and run! Leave it alone!” If the two could get away from the snake’s head then there shouldn’t be any serious damage done. The snake wouldn’t go after them, and if they were quick enough the reptile wouldn’t have the chance to whip around and get a bite in before they fled from its range.

It took a moment for the white molly's words to sink in. The tom blinked a few times before he pushed his head against his mate's affectionately, a purr too big for his body rumbling from his chest. "That is amazing new, lovely!" Grayfire had always dreamed of a happy life full of kittens and upon meeting Honeymist, the dream only intensified. Now, that dream was becoming a reality. Excitement clouded his mind and the tabby had to get to his feet and pace around his mate in circles, unable to contain such emotion. "We'll have to think of names! How many do you wonder there will be? Who will they look more like?" Words rushed out of the tom's mouth quickly. "I'm getting ahead of myself! I only just found out." The tom stopped in front of his mate, brushing his nose gently against hers. "This really is amazing news." he repeated.

The white feline blinked up at the tabby tom, her vision swimming with dizziness for a moment before her head cleared and she was able to see again. "Fire? No fire," Larkspurbreeze laughed. "But I can't slow down. There is only so much time in a day, and if I slow down for any of it, I won't be able to do everything I want to do today! Before I know it, I'll blink and it's night, and I'll have to wait for tomorrow to come. But then, maybe something will happen tomorrow and I won't get to finish what I started today tomorrow, and...and," The molly was talking faster than her own brain could keep up and she stumbled over her own words. Straightening herself up, Larkspurbreeze gave her chest a few embarrassed licks. "Simply to say, there is no time to slow down!"

Lilysong
Lilysong could feel the writhing snake go limp as she pierced its scales with her sharp teeth, and and she slowly released her clamped jaw, letting the creature's body drop to the ground. She was panting heavily as she looked around at the other warriors. Cloudburr had barely been able to hold the snake down, and she was shaking in fear. "It...it came out of nowhere..." she gasped, glancing over at Frogblaze who had yelled at her, seemingly defending the snake and demanding that they 'leave it alone'. Lilysong felt her fur grow hot with anger and embarrassment, but she couldn't form the words to defend herself. It wasn't as if she had gone looking for a snake to hunt! The cursed thing had appeared before she could even blink. Shaking her head, the brown molly stepped back from the snake towards Cloudburr, lightly brushing against him for support as she awaited the brash deputy's reply.

D U N E W H I S K E R Though Dunewhisker's eyes remained closed, his ear twitched in acknowledgment of Sandyhawk's question about how his work was going. "It's going," he huffed, "despite Frogblaze's best efforts. This week's regular patrols have stayed on schedule, at least, but I can't say how effective they've been. Our esteemed deputy doesn't have a very good grasp of which cats work well together and which don't. Recent tensions haven't helped, either." He spoke without much inflection, as if reporting to Twigstar, but there was a subtle undertone of sarcasm that only the observant or those who knew him as well as Sandyhawk could pick up on.
Dunewhisker had been on most of the patrols this week. He'd experienced for himself the shortened tempers and overall dissatisfaction that had permeated the Clan since the appointment of the new deputy. He himself had gotten in an argument with Orangesky over something trivial only yesterday. Unable to focus, he'd returned from hunting empty-pawed, which only added to his frustration. Was his persistent headache from overworking himself or the stress of getting lumped into patrols with cats he didn't get along with? It was hard to tell.
The golden-brown tom opened his eyes a crack, squinting, as the medicine cat returned from the back of the den with two white flowers clamped in his jaws and set them before his apprentice. He watched the two impassively until Marigoldpaw turned her attention on him. He resisted the urge to lean away as the little molly stretched her neck out and gave him a sniff; being allowed into Dunewhisker's personal space was a privilege granted to very few. "No, I'm not sick," he bristled. "I just need something to get me through the rest of this day so I can get back to work."
Y U C C A T A I L The silver tabby shrugged. "If you say so." The ranch was not the first place they would think to bring an apprentice. Birdshadow seemed a little too nonchalant to not be hiding something, but if she didn't want to tell them why she was really out here, it was none of their business.
Yuccatail stepped back as the other warrior hopped down from the fence and settled neatly on the grass in front of them. Their pale gold eyes brightened in the direction of the -- "four-legs? Is that what they're called? I mean, yes, that is why I am here. Currently, that is." They frowned, trying to recall how they had ended up here in the first place. "I actually came out this way to hunt. Guess I got distracted." Again. It was annoying how often that happened to Yuccatail, how easily they got sidetracked despite their best efforts to stay on task, but they laughed it off. "I suppose I should get back to that. Unless... what's next for you?"
P A L E S A N D "Yes, riding," Palesand snapped at Tawnyface. "Or do you think I have nothing better to do than make up ridiculous stories about Twolegs on horses just to entertain you?" She didn't blame him, though. She wouldn't have believed herself either if she hadn't seen it with her own eyes.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get going already before Frogblaze tells us to!" She rolled her eyes in the deputy's direction. She hated it when she planned to do something but someone else ordered her to do it before she had the chance to act; even if it was something she wanted to do, being told to made her want to not do it, just out of spite. Mimicking the mock-serious expression on her friends' faces, she followed them to the camp exit, trying to look nonchalant, though it was a struggle to keep the impish grin from her muzzle until they were outside. Once her paws hit the desert sand she was off with one adrenaline-fueled goal in mind: beat Tawnyface. She planned to get to the ranch first, but as long as she came in before him she'd be satisfied. "Ha! Me? Eat beetles? Not a chance!" she taunted as she weaved around Dawnfire, hot on Asterthorn's tail.
J U N I P E R P A W Oh, no. Juniperpaw's relief at seeing his sister vanished when he met her gaze and saw a spark of mischief in those yellow-green eyes. What was going on in her head? Was she going to side with Beepaw? His brows drew together, eyes round and mouth set in a flat, defensive line as she approached. Thankfully, she placed herself between him and the other apprentice rather than standing with Beepaw. His amber eyes flicked between the two mollies as they discussed where they should go.
Hazelpaw was right; a quick glance around showed him that, sure enough, their mentors were nowhere to be seen in camp. He was on his own for now. Juniperpaw peered around his sister's shoulder at Beepaw. "An adventure?" Going to the Red Caves by themselves was the last thing he wanted to do, but wandering around aimlessly, hoping to stumble upon something new, as Hazelpaw suggested? Did they want to get eaten by coyotes? But chickening out is exactly what Beepaw expects me to do. If I want her to leave me alone, or at least get her to take me more seriously, then I need to stop being so predictable. He took a breath and forced himself to meet her gaze. "Alright. Where did you guys have in mind, then?"

Tumblefawn — Abandoned Cabin — with Frogblaze, Lilysong & Cloudburr Tumblefawn was perplexed by Lilysong and Cloudburr as they wrangled with what was not a coyote. The pale cat had prepared themself for a dying battle in their mind and they were baffled. They could hear Cloudburr meowing to Lilysong, then Frogblaze's whisper caught their attention. "A rattlesnake?" they mewed, puzzled by Frogblaze's demand for them to stay behind. "Right, okay! I'll look out for coyotes or... rattlesnakes."
The fawn tabby back from the red ticked tabby's tail, respecting the barrier she had created. They wondered how Lilysong had come upon the rattlesnake so easily. Cloudburr didn't have a great grip on the long, slender snake, but Tumblefawn couldn't blame the tom. They were supposed to avoid them and not provoke them. I doubt Lilysong or Cloudburr did it on purpose, they thought before realizing what was going on before them.
Lilysong did not look pleased at all with Frogblaze. Although they had a bias, they felt the deputy acted within her duty. Leaving the rattlesnake alone was best for everyone. However, Tumblefawn felt the need to clear the air. "Lilysong, Cloudburr. Are you two okay?" they asked, glancing at both warriors. [ tags: Feathertalon , Brindlebriar , & 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 ] | credit: unsplash, cc0 licensed, pixel by officialrainleafwcf- Beepaw — camp — with Hazelpaw & Juniperpaw As soon as Hazelpaw announced that their mentors were nowhere to be found in camp, it placed the apprentices in an interesting spot. They didn't have any duties to do with a warrior leading them around. They were free to do whatever they wanted. Even better, she and Hazelpaw had Juniperpaw to tag along. She wondered if he would be pleased to tag along or not. Normally, he chickened out once mischief was involved. Beepaw expected him to refuse and back out of the plans Hazelpaw was concocting.
Shocked, Beepaw's yellow eyes widened at Juniperpaw's response. Surely this wasn't the real Juniperpaw before her. Was he possessed? Blinking rapidly, the apprentice tipped her head to the side. Well, if Juniperpaw is willing to follow us, that's on him, she thought.
There wasn't a place that the black she-cat could choose out of her mind that she had been to before. The Red Caves were overrated as was the Ranch. She was coming up with blanks, so she hoped that Hazelpaw would have better ideas in mind. "I'm surprised you want to tag along, Juniperpaw," she remarked with a smirk, gazing at the tom. Her tone changed quickly when she faced Hazelpaw. "Where are you going to take us, Hazelpaw?" [ tags: 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 & Brindlebriar ] | credit: unsplash, cc0 licensed, pixel by officialrainleafwcf

Goldenstrike
"Interesting. I like it," he purred, before cocking his head to one side. He supposed that there were a few cats in AridClan who were also "named after food", such as Speckledhare or Birdshadow.
Goldenstrike was mildly amused at how the bell rang everytime the white and orange she-cat moved, even slightly, but he knew that if he had to wear a bell like that it would grow old fast. It made sense that she wouldn't mind it too much if she didn't have to hunt though. "How is the food the twolegs feed you?" he asked curiously. "I've heard it can be a bit...dry, but I suppose the convenience makes up for it. Especially out here it the desert. Sometimes it can be difficult to track down prey in the heat of the summer."
When she commented on his lengthy name, Goldenstrike couldn't help but laugh. "Yes, I suppose it is quite the mouthful, especially compared to a short name like Maize. But it's the only name I've ever known. Sort of. Before this I was called Goldenpaw, and before that my name was Goldenkit. Luckily I'm done with name changes for now. It's pretty rare for a warrior to get a name change, so unless I do something drastic, I'll stay Goldenstrike for the rest of my life," he explained with a chuckle, before moving on to her question about warrior life.
"Being a warrior can be fun at times. It can also dangerous, exhilarating, and challenging. Every day I wake up not knowing what adventure awaits me, but I'm surrounded by cats who all have each other's backs no matter what. We can be wild and free, but we aren't alone. It's a life I'm lucky to get to be a part of," the golden tom told her, the humor in his voice faded to wonder as he told her about his experience as a warrior. He wouldn't trade it for the world.

Barkstripe »
Sleeping in was not a common occurrence for the brown tabby warrior, so when he opened his eyes to see sunlight already streaming into camp Barkstripe, surprised, jolted up and onto his paws. He scrambled for a moment, attempting to settle his balance. Fur ruffled and eyes wide with shock. What had he eaten last night that knocked him out for so long?
Barkstripe shook out his pelt in an attempt to rid himself of any stray nesting debris and to snap him fully into reality. The tom jerked his head downward to give his chest a few licks, tail swishing from side to side. It was his attempt at coming off as nonchalant rather than worried and surprised - he didn't want his Clanmates to think badly of him for sleeping in for as long as he had. It wasn’t usual for him as he was typically one of the first to rise despite being the last to sleep. Most other warriors had probably noticed his laziness this morning considering how open most of the AridClan cats slept. Barkstripe let out a sigh. Maybe nothing would come out of this. He hoped at least.
Knowing that he needed to do something the brown tabby looked around camp, noticing how empty it was now that most of the patrols had been sent out. With the sparseness of Clanmates it didn’t take him long to spot a trio of apprentices edging ever closer to the camp’s exit. Curiosity captured him in its claws. A group of apprentices without mentors around always spelled trouble.
Checking one more time to make sure that none of the trio’s mentors were around, Barkstripe decided that he would be the one to intervene before anything transpired between the three. With the coyotes still assuming to be on the territory, the last thing the Clan needed was the demise of some sneaky apprentices.
With one last shake of his pelt, Barkstripe trotted on over, tail flicking in a nervous, fast-paced greeting. ”Morning, Beepaw, Juniperpaw, and Hazelpaw! Have any plans for today? I don’t see any of your mentors anywhere…but, uh, who knows, they might be around. Or they might have already talked with the three of you?” Barkstripe’s head tilted in wonder as his last statement went higher in pitch to indicate an impromptu question. His tail quivered as he continued, ”Are any of you assigned patrols or training sessions? I’d assume not, but who knows? Certainly not me!” The tabby looked between the three apprentices, eyes wide, embarrassment beginning to warm the tip of his ears. He took a step back, lowering his head to give a few licks to the fur along his chest. A lopsided, anxious smile appeared on his maw after. ”I guess none of that is really my business, but uh, ya know…yeah…” He trailed off awkwardly, tapping on the tips of his toes now as he blinked owlishly, eyes darting between apprentice to apprentice to apprentice once he had finally shut himself up for the time being.

(Rainy, I've changed the route Prickletooth was going to originally take with Spiderfur since Brindle will be gone for 2 weeks. let me know if this is okay.) Prickletooth — camp — with Orangesky — mentions Spiderfur The more his idea swirled and sat in Prickletooth's mind, the more he disliked it. Spiderfur was like an ant to them. Small, harmless, and just a menace that could get underneath your paws and into your fur. It would be a waste of time with Orangesky to spend it acting like a troublesome apprentice. His green gaze was aimed toward the camp entrance and no longer focused on their enemy.
He could hear Orangesky picking at the quail and then eating it which meant it was his turn to enjoy the delicacy. He looked down at the quail as it was at his paws. The cream tabby's eyes lit up and he took an average sized bite. "You know, I don't think it matters anymore," he mewed to her in truth. He preferred to spend his day with the orange tabby next to him, his best friend. "Maybe I'll convince Frogblaze to take him on a patrol with her. That would take time since she's... not here. I imagine he dislikes her a lot."
He passed the quail back to her, tail flicking contently. "I would rather spend my day with you, Orangesky. Annoying Spiderfur isn't worth it right now and we can't let him get to us like he did," he added, before changing the subject. "What would you like to do after we finish our meal?" (Tealraven Sorry, I had posted on the discord asking if anyone had an idea for where they should go, or if someone should catch them before they sneak out and Feathertalon offered for Barkstripe to see them. If you'd rather them stil sneak out and had an idea for where to take that plot line we can definitely still make it work!)

(I posted it on discord but I’ll post it here really quick, I’m going to go ahead and release my cats from any RP they were in with someone else. At the moment, I more than likely won’t be on to RP for another whole week while I try to get my life together and I really don’t wanna hold anyone up. So feel free to move on without me or whatever you need.)

(i tried to phase Marigoldpaw out as best as I could, but also feel free to add a response from her when you get the chance/if you want to, brindle!) ————- ☀ ————- Sandyhawk with Dunewhisker; mentions Marigoldpaw, Pigeonclaw, & Silversparrow medicine cat's den @ Tealraven , Brindlebriar Sandyhawk continued to separate the petals and leaves from the flower, leaving a couple in a small pile in front of his brother. The rest could just be stored away Perhaps that was a job he'd give Marigoldpaw for today, taking all of the flowers that didn't need to be eaten whole and picking off the parts that could actually be used. They were pretty well-stocked, just needed their storage to be organized. He listened to Dunewhisker as he recounted life as a warrior as of recent, not surprised by Frogblaze's lack of insight. She'd only been made a warrior just this last dry season, how could she know the social hierarchy in that time. "Hm," he tried not to smirk after picking up the hints of sarcasm. "I do not envy you, or the other warriors, in that case."
Tensions weren't running high for Sandyhawk personally, but he always had to be on alert for any emergencies. The coyote's were still out there, and no matter how careful his clanmates were someone could still get hurt. Not to mention that Pigeonclaw was due soon. New kits were exciting, but the birth of kits could be unpredictable. He would pray to StarClan tonight for a smooth kitting. Before his mind could wander too far, he brought his attention back to both his brother and apprentice.
With green eyes narrowing in confusion, Sandyhawk tried to hide his baffled expression at the completely false answer that Marigoldpaw gave to his question, and then his ears grew hot when she questioned Dunewhisker's condition. "Marigoldpaw," he spoke with a sharp tone, enough to get her attention. "When patients come to see us, questioning the legitimacy of their symptom is the last thing we need to be doing." The tabby tom scolded his apprentice lightly. "Besides, you were thinking of coltsfoot. I thought you'd have most of these memorized by now as feverfew is used to treat fevers. It's in the name." If Sandyhawk sounded harsh, he didn't mean to be, but Marigoldpaw was nearly halfway through her apprenticeship by now. Incorrectly identifying an herb could be life or death.
"The other flower I've brought is chamomile, to help ease the mind. Thought it could help as well." He informed the both of them, picking off some leaves and petals as well and adding them to the pile in front of Dunewhisker. "Just eat both and drink some water, then you should be feeling better by this afternoon. If the headache still persists then come and see me." Even if he didn't hear from the golden-brown warrior, he would probably search for Dunewhisker by the end of the day to see how he was feeling. "As for you," Sandyhawk turned to his apprentice, "why don't you pick and sort the herbs. It'll be good for you familiarize yourself with them."
Finally rising to his paws and giving a little stretch, the already tired medicine cat shook his pelt and glanced over to the entrance. "Once you're done I'll follow you out, Dunewhisker. I should go and see how Pigeonclaw is doing." He had spotted the queen and her mate, Silversparrow, eating not too long enough.
(all good with me, sand 👍) ————- ☀ ————- Orangesky with Prickletooth camp @ Sand Shock could not begin to describe what Orangesky was feeling when Prickletooth had decided to drop all revenge plans against Spiderfur. It wasn't completely out of character for the cream colored tabby, but it was always surprising when he chose not to be petty. She didn't mind either way, content to just enjoy the morning together until they decided to do something else. Though, she did snort at the idea of both Spiderfur and Frogblaze on patrol together. "Just tell her that you've noticed him slacking on patrols and he could learn a lot from her. That would probably be convincing enough." It didn't take an expert to figure out that flattery went far with the new deputy.
When the quail was passed back to her, Orangesky would falter before taking a bite, flattered by his words. She similarly felt the same sentiment and was honored to call the tom beside her a close friend. Prickletooth had been a close companion ever since they were apprentices, he was the only one that she truly trusted. Her siblings were probably a close second, but she didn't consider herself as close with them anymore. Subconsciously, her eyes flickered around camp trying to spot either of her littermates. Speckledhare was talking to Larkspurbreeze, and Lilysong was nowhere to be seen.
Scooting the prey back over to Prickleooth, the orange tabby chewed thoughtfully and swallowed before answering. "We could just go out on our own patrol as it looks like most have already done." That made the most sense. The clan always needed food, and there wasn't anything better to do at camp. It also felt the most predictable, and they could be put on an afternoon patrol soon after returning. "Or, we could red caves for the day. See what cool things we can find, how many kittypets we can bother." Everything had happened so fast, honestly in a matter of minutes, but Cloudburr felt like time had slowed down. Frogblaze's warning went in through one ear and out the other as his focus was on Lilysong, trying to make sure that she was safe as the rattlesnake went limp. He felt her brush against his fur and shake at his side, and he lowered his neck to sniff at her pelt, wanting to be sure that she hadn't been bit. The white tom lifted his head when he heard Tumblefawn ask about their well-being. Amber eyes flickering between both felines, he had to clear his throat to find his voice.
"Yeah, we're fine," he answered first then continued, "Lilysong is right. It came out of nowhere." If only he had been with her, then maybe he could better explain the moments before. "From what I saw, the rattler had her cornered and would've struck if I hadn't pinned it down." Looking to the small brown molly beside him, Cloudburr gave a reassuring look before peeling away from her side to hesitantly approach the dead snake. He sniffed at it then raised his nose in the air.
"It's strange that it attacked though. I've never seen a rattlesnake so aggressive." He thought aloud, eyes narrowing as he looked around the clearing. There had to be a reason for its attack, unless Lilysong's presence was enough to provoke it. Though, that seemed highly unlikely. "Maybe its nest is nearby? Could have eggs it was trying to protect." Cloudburr frowned and looked at the group, trying to piece the puzzle together in his head.

Frogblaze »
Frogblaze’s reaction couldn’t be any different than Tumblefawn’s as she stared down the two other warriors, eyes narrowed in a sharp glare. Ears pinned back tightly on her head as the fur along her nape and back needled upward, tail lashing furiously, hackles rising. ”That makes no sense! A rattlesnake just doesn’t appear without warning!” Frogblaze wasn’t stupid. She knew that these particular snakes always warned an approaching threat, they never just appeared and attacked. Were Lilysong and Cloudburr trying to play her off as stupid? Did they think they could get the upper paw over her? Well, she’d show them that she was far from stupid. Frogblaze would admit that she was young, but she knew the dangers of the desert, and she knew how the other animals within the territory acted.
The deputy’s claws dug deep into the ground. ”There’s no way Lilysong was cornered,” she snapped toward Cloudburr before bringing a scalding glare upon Lilysong. ”Are you a warrior or are you a kit? If you were smart then you wouldn’t have gotten cornered by a snake that warns you. And get away from the body!” She hissed, only just now realizing through her rage that the two warriors were still near the reptile’s corpse. ”They can still bite you even after they're dead.” Did they not know that about rattlesnakes either? Frogblaze snorted; the two didn’t seem to know the first thing about rattlesnakes.
Cloudburr and Lilysong were lucky that Tumblefawn was here. Had the fawn pelted warrior not been around then Frogblaze would have surely let the two learn a very hard, and even deadly, lesson. She wouldn’t have warned them of the snake’s post mortem spasms that could allow it to still bite and inject venom. Though, she may not have been this angry toward the two if Tumblefawn wasn’t around. A lot of her fury stemmed from the fact that she was afraid her companion would ditch her for the older pair. ”Get back to camp,” she muttered after a moment of tense silence. ”If you don’t know how to keep yourselves alive out here then you’re no better than kits stuck in the nursery. Go. Leave.” Frogblaze sharply jerked her head back in the direction of camp. She was tired of dealing with these two, and seeing them gone was all she wanted right now.

Tumblefawn — Abandoned Cabin — with Frogblaze, Cloudburr & Lilysong The tension between Cloudburr, Lilysong, and Frogblaze was palpable. It felt as if the desert air was drier than usual and choking Tumblefawn by the minute. A situation like this was one that they hadn't prepare for at all. Lilysong shook in fear, Cloudburr tried to support her and Frogblaze's assault towards the two warriors with words-- they were speechless and staring at all three cats with wide eyes.
You have to do something, Tumblefawn. Staring like a curious kit isn't going to work this time, they thought, knowing that they felt differently for each cat in this situation. Lilysong should have been more careful with the rattlesnake, Cloudburr was doing a poor job of changing the subject, and Frogblaze was correct but too aggressive. Maybe choosing to be quiet was the best option, but they knew that was the wrong approach.
"Look, we need to thank our stars that no one is hurt! Things have been terrible lately and being careful is important. Tension isn't going to solve anything between any of us," they interjected abruptly, their heart beginning to race."That rattlesnake could have injured or killed Lilysong or Cloudburr. Frogblaze, we would have been next. We're lucky enough that it didn't hurt anyone. I can search for a nest of their eggs while Frogblaze and I are here."
Hearing Frogblaze snort, the fawn tabby wanted to interrupt the deputy, but she was much faster and harsher when speaking than they were. "B-Before you go, Cloudburr, Lilysong. Make sure you check in with Sandyhawk to check for injuries," they mewed softly, trying to stand as tall and strong as they could. They appeared more off balance than anything else, but they offered a sympathetic, genuine smile. "It's best to make sure you're both okay. Frogblaze and I will make sure that the rattlesnake has no nest. And if it does, we will get rid of its den."
Tumblefawn felt their heart palpitating and it didn't feel like it was going to stop. Their stomach was going in circles, making dizziness come to the surface. Their paws were pierced with chilliness and they wanted these foreign feelings to stop. One was quite familiar for the fawn colored warrior, but the others weren't. I have to get Frogblaze's mind off of Cloudburr and Lilysong. She seems so angry with them. How do I do it without offending her? they wondered, groaning quietly at the pain in their chest. The heart palpitations weren't subsiding, but Tumblefawn was going to do their best to ignore them. [ tags: Feathertalon , 𝐸𝓁𝑜𝓆𝓊𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒟𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂𝑒𝓇 , 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 ] | credit: unsplash, cc0 licensed —
Prickletooth — camp — with Orangesky Prickletooth's decision made him feel completely out of character, but playing the long game with Spiderfur seemed like the best decision. Spiderfur was a grumpy warrior, so having Frogblaze go after him would be glorious. "That would be great to add. I'm sure Frogblaze will believe me without any issues," he mewed, knowing how irate the young deputy could get. That alone might drive Spiderfur away from the desert.
In truth, the cream tabby didn't have a lot of friends. Orangesky and him had been close friends since childhood and he knew deep down that he could trust her with anything. He felt that she supported him with any of his antics and he did the same for her. With Birdshadow, their friendship was entirely different. If anything, it felt sort of fake. However, they scratched each other's back whenever there was an itch. Somehow Orangesky always lifted his spirits and they got on well, so why not flatter the orange tabby? She deserved it more than most cats he knew. There was no reason to not love her.
The warrior took another large bite out of the quail, deciding he would leave the rest for Orangesky. "That's a good idea," he replied after chewing."Did you say bothering kittypets?"
A glint of mischief flickered in Prickletooth's eyes as he turned towards his companion. His attention had been piqued and he would never say no to bothering kittypets. It was always entertaining to see what kittypet would break first. "Red Caves and bothering kittypets? That's a lot you're asking for, Orangesky," he teased with a mrrow of amusement. "Let's do it. I'm intrigued and ready for some fun!" [ tags: 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚢 ] | credit: flickr for the photo, cc0 licensed
