Still catching up a bit - that last Nightheart chapter broke my heart.
I cannot view him as anything but a young cat who's reached his limit and is acting out because of it. He has such faulty beliefs that he's holding onto so tightly, much to his own downfall. He believes he's certain in his decision, but there's still his conscious trying to come through and make him doubt if what he's doing is right.
There's more I want to say about this, but a lot of it involves personal feelings that might not fit on these forums. But still. Nightheart honey, please listen to your Clanmates and stop acting so impulsively.
Also I cannot get over the fact that Frostpaw was so terrified that she immediately panicked and imagined a future where she was mates with Spashtail (after only having feelings for him very recently), and they would name their child after her deceased mother. Oh my goodness none of these cats are okay.
I love this spoiler thread. Books are meant to entertain, and this is certainly entertainment, whether you feel positively or negatively about it. I certainly hope she doesn't have a forbidden relationship with Splashtail, or anything more than a thoughtless anxiety-induced dream, this book really is just acknowledging certain things but ignoring others when it comes to kin, if she acknowledges Owlnose being her uncle....Surely she has to know that Sneezecloud is her great uncle which would make Splashtail her 2nd? Cousin? I think? Still poor thing |

What suprises me most is that the only reason Nightheart has been getting so worked up a couple of this chapters is because he has to do apprentice duties?? There are no apprentices so he has to help out, it just makes sense. Squirrelflight wasn't being wrong, Nightheart thinks he's excused from apprentice duties. He thinks it's because they don't see his "worth" that they don't let him hunt and fight but it's because HUNTING AND FIGHTING aren't the only duties a warrior has to do. They aren't telling him to help around camp because they hate him, they're telling him to help because there is no-one else to help.

I have seen the extract for myself on Twitter. Nightheart is many things but I don’t think he is ableist in this book based on the extract I have seen. Take these summaries with a pinch of salt everyone and remember to read the book yourself to form your own opinions |

Actually, I think Tigerstar is pretty close to consistent…the narrative has always bent over backwards to explain how he’s right and a special boy, and he has the priorities family --> shadowclan --> everyone else. His decision making is driven by emotion rather than logic. In TS his solution was force, both literally and indirectly by forcing the Clans’ way of life on the church cats. In AVOS, he threatens Alderheart and attacks SkyClan, eventually driving them out. In SqH, his solution is to drive out the Sisters, directly leading to a pregnant cat’s death. Even in TBC, his solution is to overthrow Ashfur, which admittedly was a little more justified, he was just willing to take refugees. So it’s pretty consistent that now he wants to use force by invading RiverClan and installing a puppet leader. They’ve consistently blurred the line between him and Tigerstar I, and I would go so far to say the editors seem to view him as "Tigerstar but with good intentions". It’s pretty wild that he’s already driven out a clan, waged war on a peaceful nomadic tribe, and now violently taking over another clan. He has always used military might and intimidation, as well as escalating every situation to get his way, it's just glossed over or defended bc "family man". |

I see the bit about Jayfeather, I just wanted to know what the exact line about Brightheart was. But I guess that's fair enough about the poster not lying, so sorry for that. I honestly just automatically assume that the Erins are doing The Worst all of the time because I can't expect much better from them. It still doesn't excuse the sexism in his chapters towards female characters, though- just because there's one less evil doesn't make the how they're writing his chapters less bad. (Or something like that, I'm not really great at phrasing stuff) |

Just to clear up any discrepencies: When reading that one Nightheart chapter, I misread that scene when I was skimming through it. A person came to be asking for the scene and when I went to take pictures, turns out I misread it. I talked to the individual on twitter (those are the pictures I sent them as well) and they posted that after talking to me. I wanted to get that aspect cleared up as it seems I've inadvertently started some chaos and have had some nasty comments sent my way.
tl;dr, Nightheart is just an asshole. Ableist? Misogynistic? Not so much.

Part of me really wishes Shellfur had joined Fernstripe in WindClan instead. ThunderClan is already so overpopulated, and it does not help matters WindClan just lost a member and a possible future litter when they're so tiny. (17 cats compared to the 40+ in ThunderClan... The gene pool is also so small in WindClan, so at this point they made it even smaller now. |

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed this book? What makes you think that (not asking this in a rude way just in case it comes across as such)? I have only seen a handful of people on here who outright said they disliked the spoilers on this thread and even less who did not even want to read the actual Sky when it officially comes out. Most others still seem excited. Myself included. Not sure how people on Twitter or tumblr are reacting so far though except for a few "controversies which did not turn out to actually be ones". The "Nightheart is ableist/misogynistic" and the "gray-pelt being a word to insult outsiders" takes, to be more precise. |

Disappointed we don't get Icestar but Owlnose seems like a cool character, and Owlstar is a dope name. Owlnose ultimately rejected the position after going to the Moonpool a second time with Frostpaw though. It was said in Chapter 15 on page 10 of this thread. |
