Since it seems this needs to be said apparently: PTSD: Post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event โ either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Dementia: A chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Please be mindful. I normally just lurk, but thank you so much for posting this. Both my grandparents have Dementia and my grandpa has PTSD as well. So seeing how the book and the forums are treating Bramble was making me uncomfortable, which doesnโt happen very often with me. Once again thank you so much!

Chapter 15: Frostpaw (yet another long chapter) - Fidgetflake is in the RiverClan medicine den and is surprised on how little they have. Mothwing doesn't like him in there, but he assures her he's trying to help and wishes they asked for help earlier. Fidgetflake and Frostpaw talk about Curlfeather, and Fidgetflake says he's sorry for her loss, and he knows what it's like to lose your mother very young. He calls her brave, and she's been doing well. Fidgetflake asks when precisely Mistystar and Reedwhisker died.
- Frostpaw then gets distracted with Owlnose being yelled at by Duskfur and Shimmerpelt who are critical of his decisions to send hunting patrols to specific areas. Owlnose wants every cat to be safe but their argument is that in times like these, they need to take risks. Owlnose asks Mothwing for advice, and she says he's the leader, but then agrees with Duskfur and Shimmerpelt. Frostpaw is glad that Splashtail is at least decisive. Shimmerpelt snorts that Owlnose is hardly a leader since he needs Mothwing like a kit needs it's mother.
- Splashtail and Frostpaw talk about how they want Owlnose to improve. He means well and is trying, but he's clearly lacking in vital aspects like decision making. Owlnose doesn't like to upset anyone so he tries to make everyone happy. Splashtail says he believes in Frostpaw, and she just needs confidence in herself. Frostpaw briefly wonders if she has feelings for Splashtail, but pushes it aside because her Clan needs her more than simple romance.
- Fidgetflake discovers catmint wedged and hidden in the medicine den. Mothwing explains she must have forgotten it was there. Fidgetflake isn't buying it and asks if they were hoarding it. Frostpaw explains they've been busy, but Fidgetflake finds it hard to believe that they forgot the one herb that could have helped Mistystar and Reedwhisker with their greencough. Mothwing says Mistystar was old, but Fidgetflake mews they could have saved Reedwhisker and Rowankit by extension. Frostpaw sees suspicion in his eyes, and Fidgetflake clearly believes something else is going about. Mothwing keeps shutting down his questions and Fidgetflake just decides to get Owlnose's leader ceremony over and done with so he can go home.
- Owlnose is nervous for his ceremony. Frostpaw tries to get Fidgetflake to help him out, but Fidgetflake is hardly talking to them. Mothwing begins explaining what she knows from Mistystar's own ceremony, but then Fidgetflake joins the conversation, saying that Leafstar told him she saw Cloudstar, her mother, and many other figures from history. They end up reaching the place where Curlfeather died, and Fidgetflake asks where the dogs went. Mothwing mutters she doesn't know. Fidgetflake is appalled that she didn't even think to inform Harestar since this is WindClan land. Mothwing tells him to shut up because it's upsetting Frostpaw.
- But Frostpaw isn't upset about that. She realizes that every cat who was a leader or was about to become one had died. Owlnose seems to have come to this realiztion too, and stops at the Moonpool, and tells them that he doesn't want to be leader. He's an ordinary warrior and that's all he wants to be, and refuses to get his nine lives.

I feel bad for Owlnose reading through the summary for this chapter but am glad he rejected the position at the end and that he also realized alongside Frostpaw that the other two cats meant to lead RiverClan before him died before they could take on the position (RIP to Reedwhisker and Curlfeather again). Also, Frostpaw questioning if she has feelings regarding Splashtail is cute but hopefully will not resurface. Although it has been a while since we had medicine cat x warrior from the same Clan romance. But that most recent one (RaggedYellow) did not even end well.
Owlnose deciding not to go through with it might actually save his life.

of course theyโre going to throw frostpaw in a stupid romance. no splashfrost, PLEASE!, also im pretty sure that theyโre not trying to write squilf as having trauma. Theyโre just big squirrel haters lets be honest and theyโre trying to show that squirrel is the bad one in the relationship and not bramble.

Okay, I was wondering if Frostpaw was going to have a crush on Splashtail! Cute, but even better for her for having her priorities straight! And I really hope Owlnose survives the next book!

Starting to dislike Mothwing's approach. She is being really stubborn and unhelpful. I understand where she is coming from but great StarClan!

Chapter 16: Sunbeam - Sunbeam, Pouncestep, and Flaxfoot are eating and complaining about the "gray-pelts". As they eat, Berryheart, Whorlpelt, and Yarrowleaf rush in and demand to speak to Tigerstar. Tigerstar and Dovewing are relaxing while Birchkit clambers all over them. Tigerstar gets up and asks what the problem is. Berryheart sneers that Fringewhisker gave a squirrel to Harrybrook of SkyClan. Tigerstar, surprised, asks Fringewhisker if she did. Spireclaw is nowhere to be seen. Berryheart says this is why they shouldn't be letting cats swap. Cloverfoot pads to Tigerstar's side and says Fringewhisker can't be in two worlds. Fringewhisker tries explaining that Berryheart suggested it, but she's cut off by Cloverfoot.
- Fringewhisker admits she did, but only because Harrybrook chased the squirrel over the border and she gave it to them when it crossed. Tigerstar says if it crossed, then it's ShadowClan's. Cloverfoot growls that it isn't her decision to make anyways. Berryheart says they never should have accepted her. Dovewing objects, but Berryheart says she's not like her since Dovewing actually helps out in the Clan, unlike Fringewhisker. More arguments ensue, but Tigerstar calls for quiet and tells Fringewhisker he isn't going to be throwing her out of the Clan as he's not that cruel, but he tells her to catch three pieces of prey to compensate for the lost squirrel. Berryheart asks if that's all he's going to do. Tigerstar says Fringewhisker made a mistake, and he's willing to give second chances. The meeting breaks off, and Flaxfoot and Pouncestep finish their meal and then go to Cinnamontail and Slatefur, who are watching their kits.
- Fringewhisker breaks off to go hunt, and is followed by Sunbeam. Sunbeam asks what happened, and Fringewhisker wails that Berryheart, Yarrowleaf, and Whorlpelt told her to give the prey to Harrybrook as a sign of good nature. She didn't bother defending herself because no cat even likes her aside from Spireclaw, and she doesn't want to hurt Spireclaw but fighting his mother. Sunbeam offers to talk to Tigerstar and Berryheart, and tells her that she's actually glad Spireclaw has her as a mate because she makes him happy, and she cares for Spireclaw a lot. Sunbeam offers to help her catch the prey, but Fringewhisker declines.
- Sunbeam talks to Berryheart, and Berryheart seemingly confirms she set Fringewhisker up. Sunbeam is angry and says that Fringewhisker is a good cat and Spireclaw's mate. Berryheart says Darktail pretended to be a good cat, and look where that got them. Berryheart gently explains that she made a mistake following Darktail, and she doesn't want to see the same trouble happen to her Clan or her kits. Berryheart whispers Darktail tried to drown her, and killed Needletail. Sunbeam tells her that while she understands Berryheart's stance, taking it all out on Fringewhisker is wrong. Berryheart says she's protecting the Clan, and Sunbeam will see that in time. Sunbeam doesn't agree, and tells Berryheart to keep her opinions to herself from now on.

Even Nightheart doesn't understand why Bramblestar and Squirrelflight keep arguing lmao Nightheart had been on edge since he'd told Bramblestar that Squirrelflight had taken a patrol to WindClan to talk to Harestar about the stolen vole. He'd expected the ThunderClan leader and deputy to argue fiercely about it, but they hadn't. Not in front of the Clan anyway. He could sense the tension between them; they rarely shared tongues or prey, and when they did speak, there was a bitter edge to their mews. It seemed sad after Squirrelflight had fought so hard to save Bramblestar when Ashfur stole his body. Couldn't they happy just to be together after being separated for so long? Guilt still worried his pelt. It was kind of his fault they were angry with each other. But he hadn't meant to betray Squirrelflight, and he half wished she and Bramblestar would argue, just to clear the air. Bramblestar And Squirrelflight Hand In Unloveable hand

I didn't even bother to check if they were related. Although this wouldn't be the first time cousins (or rather second cousins after checking) got together in this series. But then again, I'm doubting they actually will get together and it instead just remains a fleeting questioning of feelings/crush on Frostpaw's part. Hopefully...

Chapter 17: Nightheart - Nightheart sneaks around the camp in the early morning, but is caught by Squirrelflight who jokingly asks if he wants to be put on apprentice duties. Nightheart mutters he wanted to be part of an early patrol. Squirrelflight then gets distracted talking to Alderheart and Birchfall, and Nightheart sneaks into the warriors' den to wake Bayshine up. Bayshine has his doubts about their secret mission. Nightheart is glad that Bramblestar trusts him, but Bayshine is uneasy about venturing into enemy territory where they could be caught and made prisoner. Bayshine feels Bramblestar isn't in his right mind considering Squirrelflight has been taking on more of his duties and Bramblestar himself hardly leaves camp. Nightheart insists it's for the good of all the Clans to figure out what Tigerstar is planning. Bayshine concedes and asks to at least do it at night. Nightheart agrees.
- As night falls, Nightheart thinks how great it is he'd blend in with the darkness, though Bayshine wouldn't with his golden pelt. He sees Bayshine looking guilty, and then Squirrelflight walking towards him, and realizes Bayshine told her about the mission. Squirrelflight asks Nightheart about what Bramblestar asked him to do, and Bramblestar scrambles down from the highledge and asks why she's bothering Nightheart. Squirrelflight says it's a terrible idea to send their most inexperienced warriors to ShadowClan. Bramblestar says he needs to know what Tigerstar is plotting. Squirrelflight says she'd rather ask him herself as to not risk the lives of Bayshine and Nightheart. Nightheart insists they won't get caught. Bramblestar says it'd just be two young toms going off to see their friend, which makes Nightheart angry and he thinks that Bramblestar doesn't actually believe in him, and just someone who isn't a threat.
- Squirrelflight says it's dangerous and she won't allow it. Bramblestar says it's his call. Squirrelflight argues she'll go herself and it's for the good of the Clan. Bramblestar snorts that she probably thought that way when she undermined him and talked to Crowfeather. Nightheart wants to shrink beneath his pelt as Bramblestar and Squirrelflight explode into an argument. Squirrelflight says they shouldn't be arguing in the Clan, and Bramblestar asks why not. Squirrelflight tells Nightheart he won't be going, but then thanks Bayshine for telling her about it. She then goes back to her den. Bramblestar once more seems defeated, and begrudgingly follows Squirrelflight.
- Bayshine tries to explain to Nightheart that it felt wrong to obey Bramblestar when he's like this, but Nightheart stalks off to the fresh-kill pile. He thinks that no cat believes in him, but then decides to just go himself. He then thinks that he wants to move to ShadowClan and become mates with Sunbeam since she clearly values him. He justifies it that Bramblestar didn't order him to stay, and he won't listen to Squirrelflight because she's not his leader. As everyone goes to bed, Nightheart sneaks out to the ShadowClan border.
- Nightheart meets Blazefire at the border. Blazefire is suspicious, but goes and gets Sunbeam. When she arrives, Nightheart talks about how nobody in ThunderClan appreciates him. Sunbeam says she thinks he's a true warrior, and talks about her problems with Berryheart and how Blazefire and Lightleap treat her like nothing happened. She talks about how hard a time Fringewhisker is having in ShadowClan, despite Spireclaw's attempts to help her. Nightheart talks about joining ShadowClan, and Sunbeam said she would like that. The older warriors are stuck in the past. Nightheart decides to get back to ThunderClan, but he then asks what Tigerstar's plans are for RiverClan, mentioning potential invasion. Sunbeam says she doesn't know and doubts Tigerstar would invade.
- Sunbeam asks if she's stupid for being jealous of Lightleap and Blazefire. Nightheart says she isn't, and he feels like Bayshine doesn't trust him either and he considered Bayshine his best friend. A ShadowClan patrol then rustles in the bushes, and Nightheart leaves. They say their goodbyes and as Nightheart races through the forest, he realizes he should leave ThunderClan and be with the cat who believed in him, and they obviously belong together.

I feel like there being an entire prophecy about how Dovewing and Lionblaze (and therefore Ivypool and Fernsong) are related to Firestar as well as the fact that Sunbeam herself even pointed out that Lightleap and Nightheart were kin despite her flirting with him not long after this shows just how little the Clans care for blood ties in-universe. It's not just the Erins forgetting at this point!

Oh, it is a hollow romance, then! Good! Well, I'm hoping that's the intention, at least. And if so, I'm ready for the downfall! Tbh, though, I don't even care that much for NightSun, but this would certainly be an interesting twist nonetheless, unless the feelings grow more and more genuine later.
