Webseed travels as far as he can before collapsing. He is found by a twoleg and taken to the cutter, where he is cured. Having been through the process himself while he was in and out of consciousness, Webseed can't help but think of stealing a little of the medicine that was used on him. He wanted to find some loners nearby to see if any of them could help him identify the medicine. The small tom waits for his chance to escape.

Webseed manages to escape after a few days, and goes around asking about the medicine. None of the loners knew what it was, except for a former kittypet. He said that it smelled a bit like the plants that grew near his old den. Webseed asked to be taken to it immediately, and followed the tom.

Heronpaw is found dead in his quarantined section. The Clan blames the sick kittypet who is driven from camp territory with the aggression of the Clan cats, who are wary to get close.
Hillpaw is uncertain if his brother truly died from the sickness he had caught as Webseed had been making some progress in finding a cure for the odd disease.

Troutclan proves they did not do it as the Troutclan scent near Shimmerbloom was stale. They all split up to look for clues but Dewskip gets found dead within a hole.

Now that the clan was safe from the outbreak, a more serious investigation is taken to answer for the murders. Mistywater and the sick stranger were both long gone and TroutClan was getting them nowhere. Instead, they focus on a stale scent trail found by where Dewskip died and a patrol starts following it past the border, hoping to find out the murders. Meanwhile, the clan is told to always travel in groups of three for safety.

Ha, right decision, I think we all know who would have been next >:]
Troutclan reveals that they had saved a kit from a hawk and DarkClan identifies it as Hootkit. They end up deciding for Troutclan to keep them until the murderer is found and killed. During the night Heronflame dies from what looks to be Deathberries. None of the medicine cats or elders heard any cat come in during the night.

Having understood his father had just been killed, the warrior now known as Feathercall as his original name had been forgotten until now, rejoins DarkClan regardless of the danger. The young warrior is adamant they find the killer and is determined to be the one to rip their throat out.

Nightkit and Leopardeye are found dead by the border. As these cats were past members of the clan tensions grow to how far the murderer will go and who will be next. The kits sneak off but due to Skykit’s hearing he doesn’t hear them and gets killed by a fox. When Sootkit goes out to avenge him he dies as well.
