As the most senior warrior, Tigerwatcher is named deputy. The promotion feels hollow to both him and the clan due to the recent misfortunes that happened to them. A deal is made with ValleyClan for one of their medicine cats, Shimmerfern, to live with them until an apprentice can be properly trained. Stripepaw is randomly selected to be her apprentice and although the tom never saw himself in the path of a healer, he accepts the position for the greater good of the clan.

(Could we try to keep at least some of the clan bloodline alive? So like the Goosestar, the apprentices, Spottedtulip and her kits? it wouldn't make sense for ValleyClan to attack anyway with Shimmerfern staying with DarkClan)
Goosestar is lost as to what to do, having lost a majority of his clan in such a short time. He is tempted not to attend the next gathering but Shimmerfern convinces him to. The ValleyClan medicine cat is appalled that the other clans would attack DarkClan during such a time, no matter what former grudges they held. During this time, Lostwind comes out of retirement despite his leg injury to help his clanmates.

(OMG!!! The clan's lost everyone!!!)
Shredcloud, despite being young, becomes the new deputy. Lostwind rejects the position since he believes he cannot fulfil it with his leg. Due to Lostwind having had no duties from his leg, the tom had wandered the clan's territory a lot, resulting in him becoming mates with a loner who happens to be cousins (second cousins) with Clay. Haven and her sister Hope join the clan, both of which are much younger than him.

Swiftblaze rescues a TroutClan apprentice who was caught in some rapids. She had him cling onto a branch and dragged him to shore. Indebted to her, he introduces his name as Wavepaw and has since then started seeking her out during patrols and gatherings. The attention makes Swiftblaze bashful and Stripetail finds it funny.

Not long after losing a life, Goosestar is attacked by a badger. However, the apprentices save him and Fangpaw dies instead.

( Brownkitty please stop killing off the clan so much before it gets repopulated! now with both clawpaw and fangpaw dead, houndstone's bloodline is now lost. killing off cats is fun and all but the population is really low right now) Lilacpelt is distraught at the loss of her kits so soon after starting a new life in the clan. Clayflight comforts her and the two become close friends. When the same badger tries to return, the two manage to chase it away. In the fight, Lilacpelt was particularly fierce and walked away with a torn ear but feeling proud that the beast that killed her son wouldn't be coming back anytime soon.
