Bumblepaw and Bristlepaw are made warriors, earning the names of Bumblestripe and Bristlefur.
Waspstar also goes with her initial plan of stepping down which leaves the Clan shocked, she takes her warrior name as well.. The spotted tabby does not give up her remaining lives, a secret now only known to Brookstar, who assumes this is a natural progression if a leader retires early. She names Smokepetal deputy.

Having been raised in the twolegplace, Brookstar felt less connection to the nobility of the warrior code and the concept of no honor in killing. The prisoners had done enough damage to the clan and their passion for revenge was far too deep to let this one go, regardless of having witnessed the fall of their kin. Although Waspclaw had been hesitant to do so, Brookstar orders for their execution. Dustsnout slips deathberries into their prey the next night.

Jaypaw's disappearance and the greencough outbreak leave cracks in DarkClan's defenses. ValleyClan uses it to attack straight in the heart of their camp, wanting to prove their strength and force them to give up the territory they took. The fight is brutal but it ends in a surprise: Brookstar kills ValleyClan's leader who was apparently on their last life. ValleyClan retreat but Sunpad and Goldenpoppy are in critical condition.

At the next gathering, Brookstar intended to call out ValleyClan for being cruel in their last attack by striking in their camp but the new ValleyClan leader Hawkstar wants peace between them. With both of the suffering great loses, he promises to accept the current state of the borders as long as there were no more new pushes in the next few moons. Brookstar accepts this and then asks the clans for any sign of the missing Jaypaw.

Jaypaw is eventually found with two apprentice-aged cats- Tigerpaw and Tulippaw. The kits were the children of Mistywater, a cat that was accused of the murders, and Fallenfang, one of Cinnamonbloom's kits. Jaypaw asked if they could join the clan and Brookstar agrees, but only on a probation.
