Shadowwolf returns with five new joiners in tow. They looked strong but one could argue that it was because they were used to being well-fed. But with only a handful of warriors at their disposal, they needed all they could get. To get them prepared for clan life, they are all made apprentices despite their full grown ages.

Waspstar decides of Feathercall for when the time comes. Despite being a former Troutclan warrior he has proved his worth. He then starts to wonder if he should make the kits apprentices a moon early as despite the new members the next murder could strike at any time. He ends up making Beekit and Dustkit apprentices but wait’s for the other two. Smokepaw also becomes a Warrior.

Darkkit and Palekit become apprentices a moon early as Waspstar noted their independence and quick-learning natures and decided that it was better for them to be trained than just sneak around unsupervised. She thinks the new joiners are a little too green to mentor them however so they train under Poppyshade and Smokepetal. Shadowwolf retires and as she had decided, Feathercall becomes the new deputy.

Webseed is very happy with Dustpaw's training. What he lacked in spiritual connection, she seemed to have in spades. She has been correctly predicting the weather for a few days now based on signs she receives in her dreams. She is a little lagging behind in the herblore, specifically the strange herbs Webseed is familiar with, but with any luck, he believes that she'd be ready for her full name in only a few more moons and he'd be retiring soon.

Dustsnout gets a strange vision one day. She was following the perspective of a stranger who was stalking Feathercall. Just before the stranger pounced, she snapped out of it and proceeded to yell at the camp guards to follow her out. They find Feathercall hunting by himself but they hear movement in the bushes and find a scent trail and some tracks leading outside the territory. Dustsnout knows that she just saw a vision of the murderer and Feathercall had been the next target.

Feathercall comes down with a slight cough and takes the day off. At the last minute, he asks Pebblefire to take over for a patrol he was going to join, but Pebblefire is killed on her way to meet up with the hunting patrol. Only Cloverfire, Poppyshade, Smokepetal, and Darkpaw were in the area to the Clan's knowledge.

Webseed, although he isn't able to connect with Starclan as a medicine cat, is still able to receive visions, despite retiring. He is given a vision of his last two kits dying. Not wanting them to be hurt, he decides to talk to Shadowwolf on how to prevent it.

Dustsnout dreams of crow feathers falling from the sky. On the ground where they land, they turn into puddles of blood. Horrified, she wakes up from her dream trying to warn everyone of something ominous but she does not know exactly what the dream means. Waspstar and Webseed are just as confused as her.
