((Whoa stuff happened))
Well, Ari thought, that's just great. One moment he thought he was simply fighting one, huge, but one regardless, monster with a couple other people getting some damage in, and the next he's swarmed with miniature versions. It felt like one of those ridiculous would you rather questions, like would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or thousands of duck-sized horses or some stupid garbage like that. Though, now that he thought about it as he attempted to avoid multiple little beasts at once, he definitely preferred a single opponent. He found himself endlessly grateful for Ree's knife, which he gripped in one hand while wielding the gun in the other, though the gun was mostly just to bash monsters in the face while striking with lethal accuracy with his blade. Ari looked over at the duo battling the big one, with one girl clambering on top and another sending the little ones into the air if they dare draw close. As much as he wanted to admire their strategy he quickly found his focus heightening on the little nuisances. How many are there? He wondered in bewilderment as he struck down more than he wanted to count. He left behind the bodies bleeding out on the ground to chase after the ones racing up the hill and was suddenly struck with hysterical amusement. Oh geez, I'm actually still alive, he thought, almost laughing out loud as he darted towards the nearest monster and aimed for its throat. The probability doesn't make any sense and I should be dead by now but great goodness I'm still alive! Now that he thought about it, he was definitely starting to feel the pain from the scratches the monsters managed to deliver, including way too much blood dripping down his arm, which was Not Good. Adrenaline, I'm counting on you, he thought grimly as he grappled with the monster, managing to worm the barrel of his gun between them and fire into its stomach. I like close-proximity fighting way too much for you to be failing me right now.
Fear jumped in Riandylan's belly as he saw the wave of little monsters crashing up the hill. He felt the icy chill of panic freeze his limbs again, a few running classmates nearly knocking him down as they rushed past. Move, move, move! his brain screamed, but it was like trying to speak out loud, the uncertainty of the sounds rumbling from his throat, his brain spitting signals but the muscles refusing to respond. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a monster get blasted to pieces just an arm's length away, which finally snapped him out of it, if only to cause him to jump back and feel the pain of a loud yell tear at his vocal cords.

Fiona glanced over her shoulder and gave Lilah a nod and a grin. At least they were having a bit of fun, though it was hard not to. Granted, the threat of death was perhaps a good reason to be serious, but they trained day in and day out up at that academy and this was a chance to finally use it, no holding back or pulling blows. Fiona spun the spear in her hands, then made a massive, sweeping swing. The length of the spear, combined with her own impressive wingspan, meant that her reach in a fight was rather insane and she cleared a semi-circle of the little monsters. Another look over her shoulder told her that Lilah was scaling that bugger like a tree, so she turned slightly to keep the big bad within her peripheral as she continued to fend off the little ones. The big momma seemed distracted, but Fiona wasn't going to risk turning her back to it when Lilah wasn't distracting its head and claws like she had been before.
Seven ducked through some underbrush, taking up a position just behind Piper. Other students were moving back up the path and heading for the lighthouse, so he did his best to cover them, targeting any that made it past Piper. His mind was blissfully blank, with every single action fueled by adrenaline alone. A brief moment of clarity hit him and he glanced around, panic rising in his throat. Geoff. He hadn't seen Geoff. There was no sign of that stupid trench-coat anywhere, but he forced himself to block that out. He just had to hold back the beasts, he could look for his brother later.
Geoff was halfway to the lighthouse, leading the charge. Because he was a wuss.
Jack was not a wuss. Battling on the hillside, he had no reservations about taking on several of the smaller monsters at once. Grabbing one by the neck, he used it to start beating the others in the most violent way possible. It was like he had no cares in the world. Anna watched everything from her spot atop the hill, taking in the entire battle. The smaller ones seemed to be the more dangerous enemies, playing a pure numbers game that threatened to overwhelm. Her gaze flicked towards where Stile and the new A girl were making their way up, every step dogged by the little ones. Then she saw the new girl fire a shotgun near Stile's face, unaware of the threat creeping up to flank her. That's when Anna made her move, she needed this girl, unaware of the stratification of the school or Anna's reputation, if she wanted to get any traction with Class A. In a flicker of motion, she was there, driving her knife into the back of the head of the little monster about to take a bite out of Cassie's leg.

[ an interesting variety of monster-fighting tactics we can see displayed here ]
The monsters seemed to never end. They poured out from the trees, out from the brush, across the river up the hill, everywhere. And it was quite possible that they actually wouldn't end. The hunter trainees could only fight the group for so long, and Piper was quickly starting to realize that as he dug his blade into the back of another and swiped it away across the grass, now oil slick with black blood. Now that he'd made the move to attack them, the little monsters had turned on him fully, as if he were a problem that needing eradicating rather than a potential meal. They all charged him at once, clambering over each other to bite at his legs, any part of him they could grab onto and destroy, and it took all of his concentration to knock them away. The nice thing for Piper was that once you get bit, another bite doesn't do much. It may accelerate the symptoms, but he didn't have the same pressing fear of death as the others (although he most certainly felt it, lurking in the pit of his stomach). Nonetheless, he shook them from his body, clawing his way free of their writhing mass. Now, he was particularly mad. The little monsters had a pack mentality, which became quite obvious when Piper grabbed one of the bigger ones in his frustration, and, with a foot placed in its mouth, ripped it's head clean in half. The group surrounding him paused, and he met their eyes- blank, white pits that seemed to swirl. They tucked tail and ran, fast and quick back down the hill. The ones left seemed repulsed by him, like a same-sided magnet, avoiding him. Trying to rub the blood out of his clothes, Piper took a breath and wondered if he could herd them down the hill like some kind of messed up shepherd. The biggest one though paid no attention, and he could only hope that Fiona and Lilah took care of it. At least now it felt like the pack had thinned, if just enough. Though, a certain few folk appeared to be having no trouble at all. Typical.
One minute Stile was running up the path, keeping an eye on Cassie so that she wouldn't die, and the next, a shotgun aimed right for his head. Really, there was no time for him to properly comprehend what was happening and duck, so his world exploded in a searing white as he heard and felt the gunshot, tumbling backwards. His ears rung, one moreso than the other, and he lay face-first in the grass, blood smearing his face and he wasn't sure how much of it was his own. Letting out a stunned string of swears, he held his head and groaned, trying to get up and also not die at the same time. Once his brain stopped rattling around in his skull, he focusing Cassie into view. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR??"
Wisteria helped pull the trainees up the hill, giving them a brusque pat on the shoulder before sending them on their way. She kept a mental count, eyes flickering over towards the fight only a few times. She was quite the believer of 'if I cant see the problem, it doesnt exist', and hoped that they would be safe. After all, they were all capable, but they weren't immortal either. So many monsters was a means to a bloody, bloody end. She sucked in a breath and charged up the hill, hand gripped tightly on her gun as she headed for the lighthouse on the horizon. Out of all the structures, it looked the most old, what some might call a relic of time. It still worked, and the light at the top swung around in it's lazy watch. It was always on, and it kept a nice, clean space free of monsters where the light touched. Now if only they could make it there in one piece.

Lilah frowned as she felt the monster shift beneath her. Like, really shift. She gripped her katar's tighter, quickly realizing that the monster was rearing backwards in an attempt to flick her off. Oh god. If she fell off, that moment of vulnerability would leave her dead meat to the tiny ones, even with Fiona doing a dang good job of clearing them out. All at once, the creature lifted itself up, back arched, and Lilah decided to stop thinking and worrying about her safety, because what she was about to do was incredibly stupid. She tugged her weapons upward, sliding out of the beast's body with a sickening, slushing noise. She shakily got to her feet, as well as she could, just as the creature reached the apex of its rearing, throwing her up into the air, several feet higher than she would have liked. She had figured this was the only way she was going to be able to stay on top of the thing, but not she was realizing she might be able to get up to its head a bit faster this way. Wildly flailing for a moment, she angled herself to land closer to the thing's face- even if that also meant closer to its mouth. It, unfortunately, didn't work exactly as planned, and the huntress was left clinging and clawing at the side of its head, desperately trying to clamber back on top. Glancing back in time to catch a clawed paw, or hand, or appendage, or whatever you could call it, she shoved a shining blade through it. Oh boy, that made it angry. The beast writhed, twisting much quicker than Lilah thought that it could. Much like a dog, it shook its body, tossing her own around, slapping against the eerily smooth skin of the beast. She did, however, end up back on top at some point, digging a kater into whatever flesh she could to stay above. Her other kater? It fell to the ground with an ungraceful clunk, the light simmering off. Lilah cursed loudly, gasping with every breath. Okay, okay, what to do now. She snapped her fingers. She could do some things that no one else could. Which included coughing up copious amounts of wire. This was going to be disgusting if, by some miracle, it worked. She shut her katar off, hooking it to her waist, and tossed the wire up. The beast did exactly as she hoped it would, reacting by looking upwards. Its jaw, of course, hung lazily open, allowing the wire to fall across it, like some deranged, monster reigns. Lilah pulled violently back on both ends of the wires. The thing seemed more stunned than anything, but by that time had its neck craned back far enough. Lilah pulled her katar out again, stabbing it as far into the beast's head as she could, and began to drag the blade upwards with help from the wire. In effect, she was practically sawing the beasts skull and upper jaw in half. This might not kill it, but it would certainly make it a lot harder to bite anything.
Cassie gasped, shocked to see Stile laying on the ground. "AH I SWEAR I DIDN'T MEAN TO DO THAT!" She crouched beside him, on the verge of tears, everything about her shaking, including her voice. "There was something coming up behind you and I didn't want you to get hurt and I-I, I don't know, I just reacted and shot and I am so, so, so, so-" She was cut off when she felt a sudden breeze, glancing back and coming face to face with a monster skewered on someone's knife. Looking all kinds of confused and guilty and terrified, she looking up to meet Anna's eyes. "Th- thanks...!"

Seven lifted his head away from the iron sights of his rifle, heart pounding like a jackhammer. He'd been covering Piper as best he could, they were kinda partners after all. But what he'd just seen shook him to his very core. It looked like Piper had been bitten, but he couldn't be sure. The swarm that had been surrounding him obscured what had actually happened, but Seven couldn't help the rise of panic in his chest. Piper might have just been infected. Seven might have just let the new Class B leader down and he took a moment to brace himself, a wave of nausea rushing through him. He couldn't do this. It was like trying to fight a swarm of bees, for every one that fell, another two seemed to just fill in the space it had left. Lowering his head to look down the sights once more, he was suddenly treated to a very different image of the battle, as the smaller ones began to fall back into the darkness of the surrounding forest. Taking a risk, Seven moved out of cover and sprinted down the hill towards Piper, "Hey, you okay?"
Fiona took a beat, wiping blood from her face. The swarm was beginning to thin and she was certainly relieved. But she didn't have time to rest. If the little ones were no longer the largest threat, the big mama needed her attention now. A quick look over her shoulder had her silently freaking out. What on earth was Lilah trying to do, it wasn't a flipping horse. Then she saw its jaw begin to dangle and the katar handle protruding from its head as it reared and fought with all of its might and she understood. A grin worked its way across her face. Lilah was clever, that much was clear. Taking a look at the monster's stance and the ground around it, she caught a glimpse of the other katar lying in the soil. And then she had an idea. Fiona readied her spear and steeled her nerves. This was either going to go incredibly poorly or she and Lilah were going to raid the kitchen for celebratory snacks afterwards. Taking a deep breath, Fiona charged forwards, counting her steps in her mind. One. Two. Three. Dive. She ducked low as she approached the beast. Her left hand reached out and snatched the katar from where it lay, while her right propped up the spear, pointing it directly at the rearing beast's gut. She was so bad with her left hand. Her fingers fumbled to turn on the katar in time as her body stretched out directly beneath the monster. Finally she flicked it on and managed to drive the light blade directly into the hind leg of the beast, praying it would be enough for it to fall forwards. Fall! FALL!
Anna gave the girl a slow look up and down. She was trembling like a leaf, obviously out of her depth. It would be hysterical if they weren't all about to be violently ripped apart. Glancing around Cassie at Stile, she snorted, "Get up. You can complain when you get to the lighthouse." Looking back at Cassie, she gave her a confident smirk, "And always watch your six. It'd be a pity if you were ripped apart on your first outing." Taking a few steps further down the hill, she sped into a run, knocking two of the small stragglers to the side before finishing them quickly.

Caspian couldn't help but smirk as the adrenaline kicked in. HE rushed forward shooting at every monster that he could see. One attempted to grab hold of his arm but he uses the butt of his gun to push it away. "Prepare to meet your maker!" If some were in his little space, Caspian would whip out his knife and brutally slice and stab at them aiming for the neck or chest area.

[ hell yeah ]
Piper glanced up as he noticed Seven sprinting down the hill, relieved to see that he'd made it through in one piece. He blinked, face scrunching up in the faintest of frowns. There was a bite on his thigh, leaving a dark stain on his pants, but it was hard to tell with the black goop from the monsters splattered all over his clothes. It burned a little, but he made no mention of it, sheathing his sword whilst trying to smooth over his mussed appearance. "I'm fine. What about you? That was some good shooting," he nodded with a slight grin, throwing a glance over his shoulder at the thinning scene. It certainly looked like they had everything under control now, and most of the other students had already advanced to the lighthouse. He craned his neck, looking, making sure whoever remained looked okay. He hated to admit how impressed he was with what he saw.
Stile grumbled to himself and swatted them both away, hand gripped to his temple as he got to his feet. Well, he most certainly had not predicted that. He swore a few more times for good measure before grabbing Cassie by the sleeve and dragging her the rest of the way up the hill. It was just swell that Anna had to see him flat on his face in the dirt, but he could nurse his pride later. After all, she had sort of saved both of their rears, and Cassie as well even if she shot him in the process. "Thanks."
Wisteria stood on top of a crate inside the lighthouse, doing a headcount as the students filed in. It was dark and smelled of the sea, but it was safe as well as their original rendezvous point. Sucking in a quick breath, she smoothed her skirt and slid back down, crossing her arms over her chest, rifle draped over her shoulder. "We're missing a handful of each class."
