-- Mirror Dragons Small and delicate, Mirror Dragons are known for their color-shifting scales. Tending to live in dense forests, their frames are rather small with two sets of thin wings similar to those of a dragonfly attached to their backs. Instead of the frills and flair that most other dragons have, the head of a mirror dragon is round and simple- a crown of 6-8 horns resting on top. Over half of this dragon is made up of its tail- a whip of sharp scales that can act as a powerful weapon in combat. Their eyes are solid black in color- a starch contrast to their ever changing scales. The power of the Mirror Dragon is camouflage- and often their scales will start to change and adapt immediately when they travel into new environments. Mirror Dragons are one of the few omnivorous dragons, and their diets consist mostly of fruits, nuts, and small mammals.
Height: 6’6” - 7’6”
Weight: 1535 - 1785 lbs
Wingspan: 21’0” - 25’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: Able to shift the color of their scales at will ____________________________________________________________________________
-- Double Dragons Perhaps the most obvious trait of the Double Dragon is what it is named after- its two heads. These heads are nearly identical with the exception of one thing: eye color. The head that is able to breathe out a blast of fire has golden irises, while the one that spits acid has green. Each head is sharp and angular- two twisting horns resting at the top. While the double dragon only has one pair of wings, it has a total of six legs, each with jagged claws at the end. Most Double Dragons have scales in shades of reds, yellows, and coppers, though there have been a few exceptions. They tend to prey on larger mammals such as deer or elk- hunting down herds and seeking out weak animals.
Height: 8’0” - 10’0”
Weight: 2034 - 2256 lbs
Wingspan: 32’0” - 40’0”
Breath Weapon: Able to breathe fire out of one head and a spray of acid from the other Other Powers/Abilities: n/a ____________________________________________________________________________ -- Aquatic Dragons Aquatic Dragons mirror the legend of sea serpents- creatures from the depths that prey upon sailors lost at sea. Their long bodies curve and twist, allowing them to maneuver quickly while underwater. Gills cut the sides of their necks- letting them breathe underwater and two long whiskers fall from the sides of their jaws. Their bodies are covered in crests and frills- with webbed membranes and sharp spikes making the Aquatic Dragon one of the hardest to ride. Their eyelids are completely clear- giving them perfect vision while underwater, and with powerful tails and webbed claws they are formidable beasts in the water. Outside, however, they are much less impressive. Their wings are short and stubby, allowing them to only travel short distances via flight. Their scales tend to be shades of greens, blues and indigos. Most Aquatic Dragons feast on a diet of fish and aquatic mammals- though they have also been known to snatch water birds out of the skies.
Height: 6’0” - 14’0”
Weight: 1940 - 3940 lbs
Wingspan: 9’0”- 17’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: Able to breathe underwater ____________________________________________________________________________
-- Flame-Swallowing Dragons Flame-Swallowing Dragons have scales that look like cooled magma. Always ashy in color, their scales radiate a small amount of heat- and when their insides are heated their chest glows like embers. They are one of the bulkier dragons, with a frame full of muscle. Their heads are adorned with two pairs of jet black horns, and a large crest traces down their spines. The inside of a Flame-Swallowing dragon seems to emit light- and both their eyes and maw are golden in color. Their wings are relatively large, and the leathery membrane that holds them aloft often has a dark red or orange tint to it. While not covered in adornments, the dragon’s black scales are often jagged and sharp- able to cut through the skin of riders who aren’t careful. Flame-Swallowing Dragons tend to prey on any animal they can sink their jaws into- though they are more likely to track large herds than use stealth to stalk prey.
Height: 7’6” - 13’0”
Weight: 1985 - 3568 lbs
Wingspan: 30’0” - 52’0”
Breath Weapon: Able to breath out molten lava after heating it’s core
Other Powers/Abilities: Able to swallow flames and fire ____________________________________________________________________________
-- Armored Dragons
Armored Dragons are built like tanks. Every piece of them seems to be specially crafted in order to protect them in the best way possible. It’s massive scales are the heaviest of all the dragons, and come in mainly metallic shades. Their heads are short and low to the ground, two powerful tusks sticking out of their mouths. On the sides of their stomachs, long rows of smaller spikes stick out, and at the end of their tails sits a large club. Their claws are sharp and serrated, and their teeth are just as sharp. Their scales are resistant to both the fire and frost breath of other dragons, and it is nearly impossible to pierce the armor of this dragon with a sword or arrow. Armored Dragons feast mostly on larger mammals- taking on larger predators like bears and wolves rather than chasing after heards.
Height: 9’0” - 10’6”
Weight: 2756 - 3598 lbs
Wingspan: 35’6” - 42’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: have thick and super protective scales
____________________________________________________________________________ -- Wind Dragons
Long and wisp-like, Wind Dragons are built for flight. With massive wings, they are able to stay aloft for days without rest, riding the wind currents to relax. They are also the only dragon with feathers- a small crest circling their heads, as well as others scattered among their scales. Unlike other dragons, they also only have one pair of legs- each with sharp talons at the end of them. Like Aquatic Dragons, they also have clear eyelids- allowing them to see while maintaining high velocities in the air. Their scales range from light browns to greys, and they’re feathers often match and have small speckled patterns. Their wings mirror those of a large bird- rather than the leathery membranes that are more common. Wind dragons are also one of the few omnivorous dragons, grazing on fruits and seeds as well as swooping down to hunt larger prey.
Height: 15’0” - 17’0”
Weight: 3054 - 3698 lbs
Wingspan: 105’0” - 120’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: Able to breathe at high altitudes ____________________________________________________________________________ -- Flame Dragons Flame Dragons are your run of the mill fire-breathing dragons. Their scales can come in any shade or color- the only thing to easily distinguish them as Flame Dragons are the curling patterns of flames on the membranes between their wings. On top of their heads sits four twisting black horns, and along their spine traces a spiked ridge. Their scales are resistant to heat, and like those of the Flame-Swallowing Dragons they generate a slight warmth at all times. Their diet mostly consists of herd animals, though they are more lazy hunters- targeting kills that they know won’t take long.Height: 14’6” - 20’0”
Weight: 3560 - 5609 lbs
Wingspan: 46’0” - 65’0”
Breath Weapon: fire
Other Powers/Abilities: n/a
____________________________________________________________________________
-- Frost Dragons Frost Dragons are often called the dragon version of icicles. Covered in a mess of straight horns and fur, their white scales are almost iridescent and appear to glisten like snow in the sunlight. They have a large mane of fur around their necks- often a light blue or grey in color. They have 6 eyes, each of them a jet black in color. Frost Dragons also have extremely large talons, their claws razor sharp for hooking into the ice. Opposite to Flame Dragons, their scales seem to always radiate cold, and riders have to be careful not to touch their scales without gloves or else they might be risking frostbite. Frost Dragons are carnivores through and through, often waiting for hours for prey to surface from underneath the ice or plucking mountain goats off the side of cliffs.Height: 9’0” - 11’6”
Weight: 2256 - 2765 lbs
Wingspan: 29’” - 37’0”
Breath Weapon: frost
Other Powers/Abilities: n/a
____________________________________________________________________________ -- Star Dragons The most notable feature of the Star Dragon is the fact that it lacks something all the other dragons have- eyes. Completely blind, Star Dragons have massive ears and large noses, a mane of lighter fur contrasting their jet black scales. Their tongues are forked, and their teeth sharp- often used to snatch prey out of the air mid-flight. Their claws are hooked and sharp, strong enough to support their weight as the dragons sleep upside down. Star Dragons are mostly nocturnal- though those with riders often adjunct to their sleep schedules, and are able to move around due to a mixture of echolocation and heightened senses of smell, sounds, and touch. They hunt their prey mostly while flying and because of this often snatch birds right out of the sky.Height: 8’6” - 9’6”
Weight: 1870 - 2342 lbs
Wingspan: 27’0” - 32’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: Able to use echolocation
____________________________________________________________________________
-- Bone Dragons Bone Dragons have large white plates of exoskeleton protecting themselves rather than smaller scales. Their frames are all angles and points, with sharp ridges tracing down their sides and along their spines. They have a total of six eyes all solid colored, and two smaller white horns stick out awkwardly from the sides of their heads. In movement- whether flying or walking, the plates shift around, creating a clicking noise. They have two sets of wings- two larger primary ones and a smaller decorative pair behind them. These wings are the most colorful part of the dragon, with membrane colors ranging across the entire color spectrum. Bone Dragons are scavengers- often eating the remains of other dragon’s kills. When hunting on their own, they’ll often bite an animal then leave it to die from infection, only to recover it once it has died.Height: 11’0” - 13’6”
Weight: 3023 - 3458 lbs
Wingspan: 43’0” - 53’4’
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: Their bites brings decay and infection
____________________________________________________________________________ -- Golden Dragons
Golden Dragons have scales that look like boulders with veins of real metal or clusters of crystals embedded between them. Because of this, dragons with more visible or flashy ores are often preferred by riders- vanity winning out over skill. Their wings have the same greyish brown color as the majority of their scales- the membrane between them shining in a metallic color. At the end of their tails are three large spikes that they can swing into possible attackers, and their arms and claws are built for digging and moving earth. It was once rumored that Golden Dragons had to eat precious stones in order to gain their decorative scales- however this is not true. They are grazers- coming to the surface to each grass and leaves before returning underground.Height: 6’0” - 10’0”
Weight: 1980 - 2453 lbs
Wingspan: 30’0” - 50’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: n/a
____________________________________________________________________________ -- Poison Dragons
Poison Dragons are one of the most colorful and patterned dragons, their scales indicating the potency of their venom. The most common patterns are diamond and rings, and the brighter the color and more common these patterns are the stronger the venom. Around their necks is a cobra-eque hood of scales, and this combined with their two sharp fangs gives the Poison Dragon a very snake-like appearance. Their eyes are jet black in color, and their tongue is forked. Their tails are long and often wrap around their libs, coming to an end at a rattle they use to warn off potential predators. Because their venom is able to paralyze its prey- hunting is relatively easy for Poison Dragons- once it gets the first bite its prey slows down enough for them to be able to swallow them whole.Height: 11’0” - 13’0”
Weight: 3240 - 3567 lbs
Wingspan: 35’0” - 42’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: Their fangs can inject a paralyzing venom ____________________________________________________________________________
-- Climbing Dragons The only Dragons without the ability of flight- Climbing Dragons are designed to navigate dense forests and tight spaces. They are covered head to toe in secondary frills that help them make slight adjustments when gliding, and their scales which typically come in greens and browns are mottled to mirror the effect of leaves casting shadows of the forest floor. Their larger and colorful wings are usually folded tight against their body, but fans out when they glide. Their talons are extremely sharp and their joints super flexible to aid them in the climbing up and down of tall trees. Climbing Dragons are the last omnivorous dragon, feasting on fruits, insects, and small mammals alike.
Height: 5’0” - 8’0”
Weight: 1498 - 1940 lbs
Wingspan: 10’0”- 16’0”
Breath Weapon: n/a
Other Powers/Abilities: n/a

Nice, I'm glad yall like them!
Also I was working on a brief history thing and the gimmick of all the new riders is that they were plucked out of the major rebellion because of their skill or success on missions. So its highly likely that characters know or have heard of each other if we wanted to work out relationships. Also if you wanted to work out what caught the eye of the 3 remaining knights we could focus on that too. Honestly I think just sharing character ideas could be really fun rn, and it still gives me time to edit info if you wanted something for a character backstop or something.

honestly the only thing i know about my character is that she’s a human who has/practices vitality magic and she starts off rocky with her dragon because she managed to outsmart him in a fight and he’s begrudgingly impressed but they’re literally the fire and ice relationship for the longest time before something happens and he gets hurt and she just loses it and that’s when they both realize how strong their bond is and start doing better about trusting each other and stuff - she was a fighter as a kid and is very outspoken and brash and he’s pretty laidback and non-confrontational unless she’s in danger. she got kinda famous in wherever she’s from for being a ‘vigilante’ of sorts, but she’ll probably be from the arts district and have like a secret identity for that, so otherwise she’s known for her dancing or whatever.
…
that ended up being a lot more than the only thing i know lmao whoops ^.^’

oooo ok, i like those ideas a lot! So the way she "wins" her bond with her dragon is just physical combat, correct? Its prolly the most common form of challenge for dragonriders but it would prolly hurt the Frost Dragon's ego quite a bit- especially if they didn't get along that well to begin with. You could play along with them trying to one-up each other for their first couple of missions- but they really only start succeeding when they work together as a team. Also, did you want to have her chose the Frost Dragon because she thought her powers would make it an easier fight, or did you want it to be a pairing set up by the 3 living knights?
As for the vigilante work, would she be actively aligned with the resistance, or more working on her own? either is fine, just trying to figure out possible dynamics!

I'm thinking either a human or a shifter for my rider.

|
|
Post by ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » on Jul 29, 2021 11:31:12 GMT -5
i think the frost dragon was chosen for her, mostly as a way to “cool” her temper probably, but also because the potential for their bond is there from the start, they just have to grow into it. as far as vigilante work, i imagine she mostly works on her own but occasionally works with the resistance when necessary or when she believes it’s the only right choice. she finds fault in an active resistance bc in her experience it only gets people hurt, and believes that working in the background to undercut the tyranny is the best choice bc she can, in a sense, ‘control’ who gets hurt and how

sorry for disappearing i've been prepping for school and a new job!
Pearl if you were going shifter- did you know which animal they'd be able to shift into?
ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » mmmmm ok ok chill! so since the 3 knights are actively aligned with the resistance do you think she'll cause conflict/disagree with them trying to have all the new riders work for them?
inky ur totally fine! did anything stand out to you in terms of ideas for character creation?
my boy is prolly going to be a half-dryad from the garden city! working on ideas for him rn, but if y'all want characters to know each other/be friends i'm totally down!

I'm kind of thinking between an owl and a land predator like a wolf or large cat.
|
|
|
Post by 𝕾𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖊 on Aug 2, 2021 22:47:18 GMT -5
Should the wings of the wind dragons have more than 2 joints (wrist and elbow)? That way they can make more accurate adjustments to wind speed etc
Also they’re like wyverns then with 2 wings and 2 legs correct?
|
|
|
Post by lazy penguin on Aug 2, 2021 23:27:16 GMT -5
If you wanted to go with the owl then you could have a pretty cool dynamic of both the dragon and rider being able to fly independently. But land predator is also a good idea. Not sure if there would be many common big cats besides like mountain lions just because of climate, so if you wanted them to be able to blend in with the natural fauna then I'd stick to like bears, coyotes, and wolves? But anything is an option!
Yes, like wyverns or very big ducks! I was loosely basing my ideas for the wind dragon off of the albatross which I believe has 3 joints? I could be wrong, but yes I like that idea a lot!
|
|
|
Post by Pearl on Aug 3, 2021 0:02:49 GMT -5
That's exactly what I was thinking! If I chose an owl, then they'd have the best dynamic, but they'd be restricted to night. Whereas if I chose a different animal like a wolf, then they'd have more room. A wolf has a really keen sense of sight and smell, which would help during the day when they need to move. As a wolf, my rider can relay information that's needed for the dragon to move around.

Pearl true true. there are owls that aren't nocturnal too, if you were curious i know i stumbled on a couple while doing research for something i'm writing. did you end up deciding which dragon you wanted to claim- maybe we could figure out the best blend with that?
ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » ight ight, it'll be an interesting dynamic for sure!
𝕾𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖊 ur totally fine fam!
also quick question- is anyone here decent at coding? i have almost everything ready for the thread so we can finally start rping but im a terrible coder and the friend who i used to always turn to left the forums ;-; worst case scenario i just do fancy formatting, but expect a thread sometime this weekend!

yeah i'm not really looking for anything super fancy honestly. my biggest ambition is to be able to put little square icon images next to the titles for the cities. i know how to recolor & add boxes and stuff i'm just super bad at starting from scratch
right now i have 14 sections and fancy ideas four 3 of them (icons for city-states, map for the country itself tho i might also just include a link to an interactive map i've created so people who understand stuff better off visual info aren't completely lost, and however the heck ima format the joining form.) i might also make icons for different branches of the rebellion/resistance but if we figure out how to do that for the cities i can prolly just rework that.
