this is one of the most interesting rp ideas i've seen in a while is there room for one more?

oooooooo a very like arid city area could be really cool- and i like the idea of them having a reputation of being a city of outlaws and criminals! it also works geographically? i could place them next to the mountain range and the desert/barren land can be caused by a rain shadow effect!
i thought about a sky city- and it kinda tied into the time period question too. i don't think i want a like floating island type location- but i do like the airship/balloons aesthetics? idk i was thinking more middle ages in terms of weaponry just cause i wanted to lean away from dragonriders with guns- but idk im bad with time periods. if you have any good suggestions, feel free to shout them!
and yeah, the 13 are gonna be claimable so i'll mark the wind dragonrider as claimed for u!
yes, there's always room for more haha!

awesome! i imagine a person can only claim one of the 13, so could i claim the frost dragon? i have a cool idea for it if the person who claims his rider is cool with it
is there anything i can help with? i see you're working on cities right now

yeah frosty boi is urs ! also just for simplicity sake- dragons and their riders would be rped by the same person
yeah rn kinda doing a mix of ideas for the last couple of major city-states and time period stuff. If you had any cool ideas for those feel free to hop in- or if you had any questions or other things you wanted to discuss go for it!

Do all the dragons have a breath attack?

Post by lazy penguin on Jul 15, 2021 0:36:49 GMT -5
yeah i was kinda vibing with maybe air balloons & ships being more magic-driven technology? so it would maybe make sense for them to be developed before major firearms? idk we could also just have mobility based technology have been more a priority than weaponry because the city-states were united and not under threat of constant wars and such. also it would make sense for a society with people able to travel by flight via dragons- that non-riders would try to replicate that ability. idk idk idk
and no- not all dragons have a breath weapon, the ones that do are Double (fire & acid), Flame-Swallowing (Molten Lava), Flame (Fire), and Frost (Frost). Poison & Bone also both have venomous bites- but its not something they can breath out- and Aquatic and Wind Dragons both have breathing abilities (one able to breathe underwater, the other at high altitudes).

ahhh, gotcha! would my idea work then? it’s gonna be a frost dragon who bonded with a vitality(i think it was maybe? for fire?) mage and they butt heads a lot lol
lemme go through everything y’all have so far city-wise and see if i can think of anything! also - would each city have it’s own fashion sense and color/mascot and stuff? like a water-front city having more breathable and lightweight clothing, whereas a mountainous city would need more dense, warm clothing?

what if the mining/underground city is built on the legend that the gold dragons helped them create their city and find precious minerals, since they’re in the gold dragons’ scales and smaller dragons could help with tunneling? so the mining city is actually one of the “richest” cities and has the nicest/prettiest things bc they have the most precious jewels and stuff?

yeah the mirror dragon's power is camouflage !
yeah that works!
oh gosh- i mean, yes prolly. idk how much depth i want to put into each city since the last thing i was is just walls of text people have to read through. but yeah i think just in general i was gonna do a flag/symbol, general differences that they have with the other city states, and info on the people who run the city.
yee! i really like that idea of the mining city being the most wealthy. they'd prolly have some of the biggest wealth disparities tho- people who make it rich living in giant structure while those who still have to go out into the mines live in relative poverty. so like a poppin' city center, but the fringes of the city aren't nearly as nice.

hmmmm then lets do the mirror dragon That sounds fun LOL What other cities do we need?? o: Would a jungle or forest area work? like a village or something smaller scale??? Maybe some kind of temple city? Run by monks??

I'd like to join.
About inky's forest/jungle idea, how about a treetop city? One that's built in the trees rather than on the ground? And which dragons belong to which city?
The Capital- ? Mountain City- Climbing Dragon or Frost Dragon? Seaside City- Aquatic Dragon Academic City- Double Dragon? Haunted City- Bone Dragon Underground City- Gold Dragon Trade City- Armored Dragon? Garden City- Wind Dragon? Culinary City- Flame Dragon? Criminal City- Poison Dragon
-- Treetop City- Mirror Dragon or Star Dragon?

mirror dragon is urs then! also just putting it down but ima prolly claim the flame-swallowing dragon
i think id'd prefer a more treetop/dense forest city to a jungle just cause of climate stuff- but that could defo work! i also like the idea of a temple-esque city- what were you thinking in terms of that?
and yeah Pearl, there's always room for more!
it's not gonna be a direct- one dragon for each city ratio tho. i was thinking there was 2-4 dragon types/riders that are the most common for each city- but that doesn't mean there aren't outliers.
so for that i have:
capital: flame, double, armored, & star mountain: frost, wind, & armored seaside: aquatic & climbing academic: double, star, & golden haunted: bone, poison, & frost underground: golden, star, & flame crossroads: wind, flame-swallowing, flame garden: mirror, golden, & aquatic culinary: flame, double, & mirror outlaw/badlands: poison, flame-swallowing, bone, & armored
treetops: mirror & climbing

I'm thinking between the Star, Flame and Golden dragons... Which ones fly?
And how about a city in or around a volcano? With the temple, that makes 12 cities...

|
Post by lazy penguin on Jul 21, 2021 13:22:00 GMT -5
the only dragons who don't "fly" are aquatic (who can still hover and fly short distances) and climbing (who glide rather than fly), every other won can fly some are just better than others.
idk if i want to do something volcanic? just not fitting with the more conservative fantasy vibes as the other cities? but yeah if we go with a temple idea, we'd just need one more for 13.

How about just an agricultural city?

I think that is pretty similar to the garden city right?? And for the temple city I was think either like a super old ruin temple that is a little overgrown but purposefully? kind of vibe or some kind of built into the land kind of thing? I looked up fantasy temple city and there are LOTS of ones that are cool. My favorites are these Temple one
Temple 2
temple 3
Temple 4 Any temple vibes though would be cool

Not quite. A garden city is full of flowers and beautiful. The culinary city is for cooking the ingredients, but the agricultural city would be full of wheats, vegetables etc. It's like a city specifically for farming foods that are harder for farmers to grow.

we have an academic city - what about a city based in the arts? it could be a sort of rivalry type thing between them, since academia vs. arts is a pretty common thing i’ve seen irl, and the school(s) for the arts could be based there, so there’d be like statues and murals and stuff all over the place, and it could even be like a polar opposite of the academic city, so like that one would be neat and tidy and look like the kind of place a conscientious student would attend, and the arts city could be a little more messy and rough because there’s always a new installment going up? idk just an idea

They could be neighbouring citites whose residents tend to get into fights with each other whenever they meet.

mmmmmm ok i like the temple vibes a lot, so i definitely think it's an idea we can work with!
in terms of a city based solely around farming/agriculture idk? since these are more city-states with independent leadership rather than just simple cities i feel like they'd all have agriculture of some sort- just so they'd be self-sustaining.
i like the arts idea too! i'm not sure how much of a rivalry they'd have, but it'd be an interesting dynamic for sure. i think the academic city prioritizes recovering/learning/recording history while the arts city would focus more on creating it. it could almost be a division type of deal? like maybe the founders of the arts city were originally from the academic city? and felt like they could do more for the world than just collect knowledge.

yeah that's kinda what i was thinking!
so we'd have the capital (1), mountain base (2), seaside (3), haunted (4), academic (5), underground (6), crossroads/trade (7), garden (8), culinary (9), badlands/outlaw (10), treetops/forest (11), abandoned temple (12), & arts (13)
and then for the breakdown of common dragon types for each city it would go:
capital: flame, double, armored, & star mountain: frost, wind, & armored seaside: aquatic & climbing academic: double, star, & golden haunted: bone, poison, & frost underground: golden, star, & flame crossroads: wind, flame-swallowing, flame garden: mirror, wind , & aquatic culinary: flame, double, & mirror outlaw/badlands: poison, flame-swallowing, bone, & armored treetops: mirror & climbing temple: bone, poison, & flame arts: mirror, double, & golden
and again, these are just the most common types of riders in each city- not the only types.
then the other city based thing i was starting to work on was the leaders/rulers of each?
like i feel for most it would just be a leading family of lords/ladies, but for the ones like the temple & academic cities i could see them being ran by like religious figures (temple) or like an assembly of knowledge keepers/glorified librarians (academic). idk we could easily do some fun stuff with a few of the cities!

I think the treetop city would also have a counsel and maybe the culinary city would be led by the best chef's family?

i definitely like the idea of leading families/council, etc. ! i imagine for the academic city it would be a council of scholars elected by peers probably? and the badlands having a gang-style leading group sounds interesting for sure!!

sorry for disappearing, work has been killing me lately!
i like the idea of having a merchant-run trade city- maybe it's more of a collection of the wealthiest merchants who get a say in the decisions. like even if they only have 1 ruling family it could be determined by the family with the most wealth? we could play around with old wealth vs new wealth with that too- like maybe the same 3-7 families have held power, but now some younger traders are becoming more and more wealthy- and therefore more and more of a threat.
i think the outlaw city would have a single ruling family- maybe they're just absent/hands-off. but gangs could easily have more authority than the actual leadership- especially if the leaders aren't doing much to dismantle them.
mmmmm i don't know how they would determine the "best chef" for the culinary city- but i could defo see like a ruling family having a food competition and rewarding winners with money and such?
oooooooo i really like the academic counsel being elected by peers!
anyways ima finish up all the information for the different dragon types today so i'll be on the post those later!
