Disclaimer: Right now I feel like every waking moment is a fever dream, like I've just come off the rockiest roller coaster ride of a sugar rush. That's what you get for an extended sleep I suppose. Apologies if I sound a little bit loopy in this one. What are some questionable decisions that the Erins have made? There are plenty to choose from, and it's all subjective at the end of the day. Name some moments in the Warriors series that made you lift an eyebrow. It can be something that affects characters or a plot in some way, but if you can, try to also remember a one-off moment in the series that made you wonder why that decision was made. Obvious ones that stick out like a sore thumb are definitely welcome! But encouragement goes towards those fleeting moments, those one-off events that don't affect anything beyond the moment they are told, or larger scale pet peeves that you think isn't brought around too often. So dust off those cobwebs and get your brain fired up because the more specific and minute this moment, the better! What are your choices and how would you (if you would at all) change them? Let your frustrations for your pet peeves fly! I'll list some examples of the smaller pet peeves. Can you think of any of your own? 1. I believe in a couple books I read in the past the phrasing "pain in the butt" and "pain in the tail" were used, just once each if I remember correctly. As far as I know, these expressions have never been heard again. It's nice because it shows that not just one writer is developing the series but a collection of them that have their own subtly different style when writing the books. But please, consistency! Maybe that's just my brain talking though since I don't like inconsistencies. 2. Warning: a bit of a random "gross" one here. This one feels like a fever dream to me, even though I only read the book a little bit ago, so bear with me on this one. When Sandstorm and Firestar let Clovertail (then just "Clover") and her kits into SkyClan, I believe Firestar mentioned they were "almost ready to be apprentices" why they were, well, feeding from their mother. This implies they were.. 5 moons old at the very least perhaps? (Unless I'm wrong and they were 4 or less.) It makes sense, she was an overprotective mother and wanted to keep her kits close to her, but Erins... why? How would I change this? Make them younger. I don't believe it's ever been specifically stated in the series when kits wean, but I'm pretty sure it's younger than 5 moons of age. 3. Sasha, like all cats really, cannot understand any Twoleg language. While she is staying with the elderly Captain and with the younger tom they had rescued, she heard the Twoleg making the same noise over and over again. Sasha recognized that he was saying "Patch" and that he had named the tom that. First of all, how would she know this specific sound the Twoleg is making and what it means? He wasn't pointing to a patch in a curtain or a patch in a shirt or something. Sorry, but this makes no sense. This is like someone who doesn't speak any language you understand approaching you and saying a word in their language that translated to, I don't know, "carpet". You wouldn't suddenly realize that what they were saying translated to "carpet", specifically if there wasn't a carpet nearby and if you had no exposure to the language before. Sorry, but learning languages doesn't work like this! By this logic, if any cat hung around Twolegs enough, they would understand fluent English, French, or whatever language the books were written in.

my pet peeve is the entire series
ok but for real, it can be annoying when the series tries to address a complex issue but falls flat horribly. like, thinking about the Thistleclaw-Spottedpaw stuff and how other cats treated Spottedpaw

Dark Sun exactly lol. Warrior Cats is the Fire Emblem of children's books-- nobody hates warrior cats more than the warrior cats fans but the worldbuilding is really cool..... Like how one of the cats from SkyClan (forgot their name) guesses the reason why Twolegs wear necklaces is to keep their heads from falling off. See? That's worldbuilding right there.

The Clovertail and kits thing actually isn't that bad. Iirc from watching TNR streams and other stuff, kittens can technically keep feeding their mother because as long as they try to suckle the Molly feeding them keeps making milk (As ya know how stimulation to that area can induce lactation), so as long as those kits are feeding she will give them milk. Basically when Clovertail should've dried up she was still feeding her kits milk, and thus that prevents that and "pushes back" the weaning process. Especially if she wasn't pushing them away when they're expected to actually eat. I will agree that they are definitely expected to have been weaned by that point, but that doesn't make it gross that they aren't, as cases of weanings being pushed back do happen.

Weren't she and her kits also being starved/neglected by the Twoleg that was holding them? That would also explain it, unless I'm thinking of a different cat. It was probably just a goof from the authors though. Edit: Never mind was thinking of Petalnose

Is there a way I can contact you I guess because if you respond to my response to this response, well, I don't want this turning into the Clovertail thread. I'm sure a little derailing in a thread is fine as long as it doesn't get out of hand. For context, OG message was: The Clovertail and kits thing actually isn't that bad. Iirc from watching TNR streams and other stuff, kittens can technically keep feeding their mother because as long as they try to suckle the Molly feeding them keeps making milk (As ya know how stimulation to that area can induce lactation), so as long as those kits are feeding she will give them milk. Famous last words. 5,000 pages of Clovertail and then all of SkyClan inbound. XD True. I've just seen it happen occasionally. Ahh, the first page is always the first thing you see and I created the thread anyway, so why not? (Even though I didn't predict a conversation would become of this.) My response was: Yeah, I get all of that. Maybe I overreacted a tiny bit. *Shrug* I suppose I could switch out "gross" to "unconventional". I'm unaware when this happens exactly, but I'm pretty sure the majority of kittens (or cats?) develop lactose intolerance later on in their lives. Because I don't know when this happens I don't know if it would have been realistic or not that she could have been feeding them. Maybe yes, maybe no. Surely there must be a limit though right? That no matter how much stimulation is given a she-cat's belly would inevitably dry up anyway at some point? If so, again, I don't know when this would happen. Unless I am wrong? I suppose ideas could be played around with a bit though and not taken too seriously since, hey, these are cats with human intelligence. (My personal headcanon is the ancestors of most of the current living cats in the Warriors universe are the result of a genetic experiment gone wrong many decades ago, some mad scientist level stuff, and the cats escaped, had kits, and here we are today. )(*I think they were... 4 moons old? 5? Do you know?) When it comes to kits not solely eating "normal food", 4 to 5 moons would be my limit then I guess, idk about you though. What would you say yours would be since you seem a little open? (My guess would be around the same as mine, but just wondering.) Also, do you think it adds to Clovertail's character or was this one of those things where like me you might ask if it needed to be included in the first place? Btw, I'm aware I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, but it's not so much of a rant and more of a "hey, that's different...". Sorry for the text wall btw, tried to contain all of my thoughts in a single message. Also, numerous edits were made to better evaluate my thoughts. Edit: It's less about a debate if it should have been put in or not and more of... it was a bit random I think? I mean, it fit into her character I guess, but it's like... a thought process was made... someone put it in... Nothing wrong with it I guess, but it just felt a bit out of place compared to the rest of canon and their social norms? It's much less outrage and more inquisitiveness of what their thought process was, I guess?

I personally though Moth Flight having kits so young was rather gross and not the kind of stuff I'd want to be reading about as an elementary schooler and my true pet peeve is that I hate when they go into detail about kitting.
Also Bramblestar.

A pet peeve of mine in this series is all the kits who die with basically no time in the series, like Tulipkit, Bluebellkit, etc. I just feel like there is really no need for them, and it is sad to see such pretty prefixes be used but not actually be used.

Oh gosh, the pet peeve possibilities for this series are endless XD Something that always bothered me is how, especially in the modern books, these giant feral cat populations seem to have little-to-no impact on the local ecosystem. I know they only kill to eat, but it seems like having so many mouths to feed would take a major toll on most of the prey animals. There's an occasional prey shortage here and there, but nothing major enough to reflect just how many animals are winding up on the fresh-kill pile.
Another major pet peeve is that there isn't some sort of ceremony to recognize two cats who have decided to become mates. Like, having kits is basically the only way the series recognizes mates, especially when it comes to non-PoV characters. It'd be neat to have some other way to show devotion between cats.

It would be hilarious if the reason why the Clans moved to the lake territories is because they wiped out the animal life in the old forest. Like they just move from place to place like a swarm of locusts. XD

My pet peeve is when they humanized cats wayyy more after the first series. A lot of the more, uh, most cat-like things they did in earlier books weren't shown later. An example would be how in the first and even second series, having a mate as an apprentice was fine but in later books, they made it to resemble humans more in age and made it pretty much tabboo. An example would be Squirlf and Bramble, Fern and Dust, or even Crow and Feather.
I wish they had been consistent from the start on whether or not to fully humanize every aspect of cats are leave some alone.

That's incorrect actually, DustFern and BrambleSquirrel didn't become mates until both parties were adults/warriors. And Crow and Feather weren't technically mates.

The moral problems begin once you anthropomorphize any animal, and yes the cats in Warriors fall under this category. Although they lack imagination (so no innovation/progress, no art, no music, etc.) and adaptability like we do, they are otherwise just humans in cat bodies. Even if they made every facet of their culture identical to how real cat colonies work, there would probably still be a few voices that say, "That's unconventional." But of course the Erins can't limit their dialogue either, since a series with the characters speaking like the pack of dogs from the original series wouldn't exactly be interesting. But yes, I do see your points.

How eye colors of characters can change in the exact same page. It seems like the Erins can't even bother to re-read their work. Also, just the sheer amount of inconsistencies in Warriors in general.

The sheer amount of retcons in this series though. I get it, it's a big series and the writers are going to mess up sometimes. With that said.. some of them are just weird. Is Longtail pale brown or silver? Where did Yellowfang's power go? Why did some kits and apprentices just disappear in between books? I don't get it.
